lagayeah, that looks sane (although i'm not sure about that /ltsp/amd64 addition, but it shouldn't cause too much trouble)00:00
aSpasticit is only the location of the kernel and pxlinux.000:00
lagaaSpastic: yeah, remove 'qiet' and 'splash' and try rebooting the client..00:00

aSpasticjust the ip address?00:08
lagayeah...00:08
lagayou can throw in the port as well ;)00:09

AquahallicEvenin' folks00:13
Aquahallicshould a slave backend have mysql-server installed?? or should it have just the client?00:14
lagaevening Aquahallic00:14
aSpasticEFAULT vmlinuz ro initrd=initrd.img nbdroot=192.168.xxx.xxx:200000:14
lagaaSpastic: i'll need the complete error messages then.00:14
lagaaSpastic: what's in your /etc/exports?00:15
lagaaSpastic: what does exportfs say?00:15
abarbacciaAquahallic: just the client00:15
aSpasticBegin: Retrying nbdmount00:15
Aquahallicthat's what I thought.. it's got samba on it too...00:15
aSpasticNegotion error: server closed connection00:16
aSpasticLooping00:16
abarbacciaAquahallic: probably not needed either00:16
Aquahallicbut.. that WAS a master and I changed the role...00:16
abarbacciaah, from the MMC?00:16
Aquahallicso it prolly just didn't snatch 'em out00:16
lagaaSpastic: that sounds like it cant connect to the nbdrootd which is handled by inetd.. or /opt/ltsp/images/amd64.img does not exist. is inetd runniing?00:16
abarbacciadid you change the roles from the MMC? file a bug if you did so it can get updated00:16
Aquahallicsaw it on this Hardy upgrade00:16
lagahey abarbaccia, thanks for those bug reports00:16
aSpasticdiskless/overlay <world>   /var/lib/mythtv/recordings <world>00:17
abarbaccialaga: trying.00:17
Aquahallicyeah but on gusty abarbaccia00:17
abarbaccialaga: i wanna get more involved ya kno. filing bugs is the start but i could probably help with some of the packaging00:17
lagaabarbaccia: that would be great00:17
abarbaccialaga: I'm switching MonolithMC to using MythBuntu00:17
aSpasticlaga: you get my exportfs above00:18
abarbaccialaga: should get many more users and more backing to the project - i believe its mature enough now00:18
lagaaSpastic: diskless/overlay/ or /var/cache/mythbuntu-diskless/overlay/?00:18
lagaabarbaccia: many more users? didn't know mythtv boxen were selling so well ;)00:18
abarbaccialaga: you'd be surprised. had pretty decent turn out last year - even with all the schedules direct stuff that killed sales for 2 quarters00:19
abarbaccialaga: its not a primary job, but i'm 22 and its beer money ;-)00:19
aSpasticlaga: /var... bad copy + paste00:19
lagaaSpastic: beer money? let's hope it's not selling too well then or you'll turn into an alcoholic00:20
lagaaSpastic: okay, then i'm stumped.. do you have a firewall?00:21
lagaabarbaccia: i'd have expected that it's a support nightmare00:21
aSpasticyep...but the 2 machines are behind it00:21
aSpasticmaybe to do with that silly dhcp ting i did00:21
lagaaSpastic: does /opt/ltsp/images/amd64.img exist?00:22
aSpasticyes...but 0 bytes???!!!00:23
aSpastic-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 0 2008-03-21 22:00 amd64.img00:23
lagathat might explain a few things..00:24
lagarun sudo ltsp-update-image (or click "commit changes" in MCC)00:24
aSpastici think tomorrow i will fresh install, not change the dhcp thing..and hopefulyy apt-getupdate/upgrade, will see you fix that little bug thing i found :p00:25
abarbaccialaga: eh, not terrible. my build's stabilized over the two years - but everything was still done with compiling from source so no packages, a pain to push upgrades, etc00:26
lagaabarbaccia: ouch00:26
abarbaccianow, i can tell users "a bug was filed", close the ticket, and move on with it00:26
lagaheh00:26
lagaabarbaccia: i dont think that's gonna change a lot.. the mcc fix probably won't be in apt tomorrow ;)00:27
lagaaSpastic: try ltsp-update-image ;)00:27
abarbaccialaga: it's a big move - i still have all of mythtv configuration automated through a website which is pretty nice so people don't ever have to touch mythtv-setup00:27
aSpasticthanks a lot for your help laga....when will you get mcc fixed do you think? so i can have a test at it00:27
lagaabarbaccia: heh.. any plans for selling diskless clients? ;)00:27
abarbaccialaga: but people are happy if they are part of a community ---- yes.00:27
lagaaSpastic: a few days perhaps.. i don't know when a fixed package will be uploaded.. but you don't really need MCC in the diskless client, eg it's not needed to boot a client00:28
aSpasticbut is it not needed for nvidia drives etc?00:29
lagaabarbaccia: cool.. mythtv configuration through a website? how does that work? does it spit out SQL which is imported into the user's DB?00:29
lagaaSpastic: yeah, it can be useful for that.. but it's not needed to make a client boot ;)00:29
aSpasticlaga: ok :P  thanks anyway...off on hols next week...so maybe when i get back in 7 days00:30
aSpasticnight all, thakns fo rthe help laga00:30
lagasometimes i wonder if i'm not wasting my time..00:31
lagaanyways00:31
lagaabarbaccia: how did you push updates to people?00:31
abarbaccialaga: wrote an update script that would download a script from my server nightly and run it00:36
Stemming78what is the command to check version of mythvideo?00:45
Tuv0kwhats the cmd to install preset ubuntu configs?00:47
Tuv0kfrom cli00:47
Stemming78superml:  I noticed you responded to a thread giving answer to fix w/ editing metadata in MythVideo....  Directed user to update at https://edge.launchpad.net/~rhpot1991/+archive01:03
Stemming78I am still learning so I am in need of a way to do this...01:04
superm1Stemming78, you can grab the debs right from there01:20
superm1or you can add the repository as listed there to /etc/apt/sources.list01:20
Stemming78Basically just add the line deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/rhpot1991/ubuntu hardy main right into the sources.list file.  Then run update?01:22
superm1not the deb-src01:23
superm1just the deb line01:23
superm1and instead of hardy gutsy01:23
Stemming78Ahh,  thank you...01:24
Stemming78While I was waiting for a comment to post, I f***ed my remote to the point of it not working any longer...   Long story, how can I reinstall the hardware.conf and lircd.conf after they have been deleted?01:26
Stemming78Control Center is stalled configuring remote contrl.01:26
superm1well they get backed up01:27
superm1when mcc touches them01:27
superm1they're still in /etc/lirc/01:27
Stemming78I manually deleted the conf files... checking; no .bak or old files in directory other than lircd.conf.dpkg-old....   Other than that, I have modified files stored as a backup, but they have errors (edited with WinSCP which created the original prob).01:30
superm1ah01:32
superm1okay well you can reinstall lirc then01:32
superm1apt-get remove --purge lirc01:32
superm1and then apt-get install whatever gets removed01:32
Stemming78thank you!01:32
Stemming78Working again, thanks again.01:36
teknojucedoes the gatos package not work with myth?03:59
superm1i dont think gatos has been updated in a long time..04:00
teknojuce:/04:00
teknojuceso theres no way to get it working then?04:01
superm1well lets put it this way04:01
superm1the last release was in 200204:01
superm1so it hasn't had a new version in ages..04:02
teknojuceit was in the package list so I was hoping so :(04:02
superm1well what about it are you looking to do?04:02
superm1because the tv-input code is in x.org afaik04:02
teknojucehttp://megahurts.dk/rune/tv_output.html so this wouldnt work04:03
superm1well have you already checked whether those were merged into x.org's git tree?04:05
superm1it's very possible they did04:05
superm1but never got updated04:05
teknojucei have a ati aiw radeon 32mb the first one and it says the tv in and out are supported by the gatos package so I was hoping i could use those two features with myth04:05
superm1oh gatos tv-in never worked in myth i thought04:05
superm1its not a full v4l2 driver that it implements is it?04:05
teknojucethats what one of the stop warnings said on the myth site04:05
teknojucehoped that it just ment it didnt totally function properly instead of not at all04:06
superm1no i haven't ever seen any indication that anyone even had it partially working04:06
teknojuceaye well thanks for the responce anyways04:08
teknojucethe gatos comment here got my hopes up:04:08
teknojuceAll-in-Wonder Radeon (Radeon)04:08
teknojuce    Should work fine with 4.1.0 or later drivers. Both XvImage (YUV->RGB overlay and scaling) and TV-in should work fine. There were success reports with NTSC, PAL and SECAM standards. Video capture should work as well. 3d acceleration should work fine.04:08
superm1well by all means you can try, but i'd not expect much out of it :)04:09
teknojuceis this what you were asking about x.org: Radeon TV-input code has been merged into X.Org CVS, to appear in release 7.0, this includes support for both original Rage Theatre and Rage Theatre 200 version.04:10
teknojucewhat does myth default use to play dvds04:17
teknojuceas xine plays it myth crashes04:17
superm1it defaults to an internal player04:19
teknojuceokay so it doesnt use xine mplayer or vlc as they all seem to be working maybe I failed to set an option or something04:19
superm1you can use any of those04:20
superm1but by default it picks internal04:20
teknojuceis there a way to see why the internal player is failing04:21
superm1start it in a terminal04:21
superm1and see what happens04:21
teknojuceit seg faults saying that if failed to get recording show list but doesnt do that when started from the applications list04:27
garthHas anyone had problems with the On Screen Display disappearing with a recent 7.10 update?12:01
lagagarth: let me guess, you upgraded to 0.21?12:09
garthYes, I think so. Was that a mistake?12:35
lagaheh12:47
lagaso close to getting an answer..12:47
weiserI have a problem with my system, sometimes it wants to record a program, witch I have schedulet, on the tuner i'm watching livetv on, even then the other tuner is free, who do I change that?13:04
chrisor1hey. is there someone who can help me configuring my hauppauge nova-t remote in 8.04?13:23
chrisor1i've got all i need. hardware.conf, lircd.cond and lircrc. but only a few keys are working.13:25
lagachrisor1: post in the forums in nobody answers here13:33
chrisor1@laga: gibts eigentlich nen deutschen myth-irc-channel?13:39
lagachrisor1: #mythtv-de :)13:40
abarbacciamorning everyone14:19
lagamorning14:19
abarbaccialaga: can you explain to me the different repositories briefly? you keep mentioning bzr or something14:20
lagaabarbaccia: we keep our code in bzr repositories at launchpad14:20
lagahttps://code.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+branches14:20
abarbacciahurmmmm14:23
abarbacciaso each one of these is a branch?14:23
lagayeah14:23
abarbacciaso this is where you do the development for a particular piece of the main dist14:24
abarbaccialets say, mythbuntu-control-centre --- this is where the latest in dev for the mythbuntu-control-center14:25
abarbacciais14:25
lagayes14:25
lagasome of these branches contain very incomplete/immature software14:25
abarbacciagotcha14:25
lagaand sometimes you have to watch out which branch you use because some of them have very similar names14:25
lagaif you click on a branch, you'll see a "bzr branch [..]" command you can use to get the source14:26
abarbacciaright14:26
abarbacciathat was my next questions14:26
lagaand if you're a memeber of the mythbuntu/ubuntu-mythtv team, you can also push new software14:26
abarbacciaso in each of these branches, is it just one package?14:26
laganot quite.. there usually is one source package which can produce multiple binary packages14:27
abarbacciabut one source package only14:28
lagausually, yes14:29
abarbacciaso something like mythbuntu-diskless might compile to several packages but its one source14:29
lagayup14:30
abarbacciai want to figure out how the debian packaging system works and how to build them slash update them14:35
lagaabarbaccia: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mythtv/+branches14:38
lagathese are nsome other branches, partially belonging to the 'mythtv' project in launchpad AFAIK14:38
lagaabarbaccia: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mythtv/mythtv/mythtv-fixes14:38
lagahttps://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mythtv/mythplugins/mythplugins-fixes14:38
lagathose should be enough to get you started :)14:38
abarbacciabtw, who develops the launchpad software?14:38
lagacanonical..14:39
lagaand it's closed source..14:39
abarbacciai figured its closed source or else others would be using it - it's phenomineal14:40
lagaunless you try to navgiate it14:41
* laga tends to get lost14:41
abarbacciawell, its great when you have someone sending you all the links14:41
abarbacciahaha14:41
laga;)14:41
lagatrue14:41
lagait's a bit like sourceforge..14:41
lagaonly tightly integrated with ubuntu so it's easier to manage distributions...14:42
lagaand not so slow14:42
abarbacciai was going to say sourceforge is great for a project - this is strictly for distributions14:42
abarbacciaor works best with distributions14:42
lagayou can also use it with 'projects'14:42
lagaalthough i dont think you get a homepage14:42
lagaor webspace for tarballs14:43
abarbacciao gotcha14:43
lagaeg, mythbuntu is registered as a project14:43
abarbacciawell, either way - for what they're using it for - it fills the space nicely14:43
lagaand not as a distro14:43
lagayup14:43
lagaa great tool14:43
lagai'm now running eskil's shoutcast patch. yay.14:45
lagaslightly segfaulty sometimes but it plays music14:45
abarbaccianice. i think mythmusic is going to be the most exciting plugin to track over the next few months14:45
abarbacciaesp after it gets a UI rewrite - possibly some better browsing options, etc14:45
lagathere are many cool things that could be done wrt media management, eg integration of music players14:46
lagalike amarok does14:46
lagabut i can't code so i should shut up ;)14:47
lagai'm also a bit limited because i only have an old CRT tv, and you are a bit limited at 720x576 ;)14:47
abarbacciahahaha agreed14:48
* laga needs to stop doing heavy multitasking in the middle of sentences14:48
abarbacciai have an HDTV - an older flatscreen - but it 1. doesn't have hdmi and 2. doesn't play very nice with EDID so getting a good resolution on it takes some effort14:49
abarbaccialaga: do you use two ir devices? i'm trying to do some testing this afternoon with udev and lirc - they don't play very nice when you have two devices. i'm proposing to drop udev support from lirc for hardy - i just dont think its ready14:52
viciouslimetrying to get mythtv to use XvMC as output, once set to do so, mythtv crashes as soon as I try to watch TV. The frontend log file shows the following: GLVid, Error: Fatal error mythfrontend.real: main/renderbuffer.c:2153: _mesa_reference_renderbuffer: Assertion `oldRb->Magic == 0xaabbccdd' failed.14:54
viciouslimeanyone got any ideas please? :)14:54
lagaviciouslime: file a bug report14:59
abarbacciaseems like a mythtv bug14:59
lagahey, no problem14:59
lagai wonder why people..14:59
lagayeah, i just wonder 'why people' actually.15:00
lagaabarbaccia: we use apport to catch segfaults.. and then we'll get a backtrace in launchpad15:00
lagaand can submit that to the mythtv developers15:00
viciouslimedamn, ok, thanks :(15:01
lagaviciouslime: aren't you asked ba apport-gtk to file a bug report?15:02
lagaare you using 0.21?15:02
viciouslimeno i'm not asked to file a bug report, it just quits15:02
viciouslimeand yes i am using 0.21 on hardy15:03
viciouslimei also get: VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'ivtv' not available. codec 'None' makes 'opengl,xv-blit,xshm,xlib,' available, using 'opengl' instead. just before the line above in the log files...15:04
lagathat's odd.. even more interesting is the 'GLVid' part of that error message15:04
lagaviciouslime: your video playback profile is set up incorrectly then.15:04
lagayou told it to use 'ivtv' which is *not* xvmc15:04
lagait falls back to opengl.. (which is a bad thing to do, so you probably want to file a bug about that beahvior ;))15:05
viciouslimebut i selected xvmc... i also tried via-xvmc as I am using a via epia sp8000 motherboard but that crashes too15:05
viciouslimeoh wait, no that log was from when i tried ivtv... oops15:06
viciouslimejust tried via-xvmc again and got:  VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'xvmc-blit' not available. codec 'None' makes 'opengl,xv-blit,xshm,xlib,' available, using 'opengl' instead.15:07
lagaviciouslime: what version of mythtv are you using? dpkg -l mythtv15:08
viciouslime mythtv         0.21.0-0ubuntu15:08
viciouslimelaga: thank you so much for trying to help btw :D15:09
lagaviciouslime: what's the number after "ubuntu"?15:10
viciouslime...there isn't one15:11
viciouslimejust checked in synaptic, that show ubuntu315:12
lagayeah, that's current...15:12
lagaviciouslime: i dont know why xvmc doesn't work, but please a file a bug about the opengl fallback anyways.. and include a refernece to this ticket: http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/4951#comment:315:15
viciouslimeok, thanks laga15:15
monteslucool, a mythbuntu channel :)15:19
monteslulooks like it's got some support. I'm about to drop mythdora as it seems that community has stagnated15:19
MythbuntuGuest98how much processing and memory is used by the diskless server? or is it mostly used on the client? just wondering because my myth server is a little underpowered to start with15:42
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: the client does all the work15:43
MythbuntuGuest98sweet, so it shouldnt bog down the server any at all?15:43
keescooklaga: I recommend "apt-cache policy mythtv" instead of "dpkg -l" since dpkg -l will truncate versions if the terminal isn't wide enough.15:43
lagano..15:43
lagakeescook: thanks15:43
MythbuntuGuest98cool thanks15:43
lagakeescook: i usually use dpkg -l mythtv | cat15:43
laga;)15:43
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: it will probably tax the server a little bit when the client boots, but that shouldn't be an issue unless your server is really underpowered15:44
keescooklaga: yeah, me too.  bdmurray showed me the policy thing, and that's kinda cool too.  :)  /me runs off to breakfast again15:44
montesluanyone using an hd-homerun?15:45
monteslu160 bucks is a lot, but i might save overall compared to what Im spending for my cable company's dvr15:45
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: if you have any problems with -diskless, post here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=711079&page=615:45
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: even better, read the thread before posting.. with the latest mythbuntu-control-centre upload, it should be mostly painless though15:46
MythbuntuGuest98ok with the latest mcc just select diskless server and it does the rest?15:47
lagayou'll have to build the image first.. then you need to configure a dhcpd manually or create a USB pen drive for booting15:48
keescookmonteslu: I love my hdhomerun.  totally painless, Just Works.15:48
monteslukeescook, cool. That's what i was looking for, thanks :)15:49
MythbuntuGuest98ok so a little more than point and click, i should read up on it i guess, that link is a good start?15:49
lagakeescook: are, you're a mythtv user, too?15:50
keescookmonteslu: the only thing I had to play with was making sure I had reasonable signal strength, but that was only a problem due to how many times I'm splitting my incoming cable.  :)15:51
keescookmonteslu: also note that it's great for _analog_ HD.  I have no idea if/how the "digital cable" stuff works with it.15:51
MythbuntuGuest98one thing im not sure about, dhcp is assigned by my router, is that acceptable?15:52
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: no, but you'll have to create a bootable pen drive in MCC. that's the easiest thing to do.. in the thread i mentioned above, i described some alternate solutions but they're way more complicated15:53
monteslukeescook, i think I can get QAM over here15:53
monteslubut about the same channels as ATSC15:53
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: also make sure that your server always has the same IP address. you can probably set that in your router15:53
keescookmonteslu: okay, cool.  yeah, I'm using it for QAM.15:54
MythbuntuGuest98are the steps in the wiki good enough to get me started?15:56
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: you dont need the manual in the wiki, it's all in MCC now15:57
MythbuntuGuest98is allow unsigned packages a good idea or bad?16:00
MythbuntuGuest98under server preperation16:00
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: depends on your /etc/apt/sources.list16:00
lagaif you want packages from third-party repositories, you should add it16:00
lagaif you never modified sources.list16:00
lagathen you should be fine without it16:01
MythbuntuGuest98cool thanks16:02
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: let me know how it goes16:04
laga:)16:04
MythbuntuGuest98ok im working today so im eating and leaving in a few, but the build image script is running16:17
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: yeah, it can take a while.. it downloads a lot of data16:18
MythbuntuGuest98i doubt you guys get thanked enough, but you guys have done a really good job with mythbuntu, and its awsome that you guys are always around willing to help with setting up and stupid questions16:19
lagaheh, thanks :)16:20
MythbuntuGuest98hopefully not too much im only allowed 2g on a seven day rotating period, but ive got about 800 left right now16:20
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: hum.. that's gonna be close :/16:21
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: i dont know off-hand how much it downloads, but it might as well be over 500M up to 1G16:21
MythbuntuGuest98wow16:22
MythbuntuGuest98well im started now, ill just hope for the best16:22
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: maybe you can download our beta alternate disk on a different connection, it has all the needed packages16:22
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: heh, good luck then :)16:22
MythbuntuGuest98really sucks when i go over, they neck me down to dial up or slower16:23
MythbuntuGuest98i can live with it because its my own fault, but my wife goes balistic when her facebook doesnt load fast enough16:24
lagahah16:24
laga8G per month is not a lot16:24
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: if you've got a lot of ubuntu computers, i'd suggest you look into using apt-cacher16:24
laga(i used it when i was developing the diskless thing and it helped a lot ;))16:25
MythbuntuGuest98no its a satalite connection, im in the middle of alaska, the only way in is by plane, no roads, no power lines, no phone lines, its all satalite and generators16:25
lagawow16:25
* laga is kind of jealous16:25
MythbuntuGuest98what does it do? share packages?16:25
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: it caches packages.. after you downloaded one package once, you'll get it from your local cache the next time a computer requests it16:26
MythbuntuGuest98its awsome out here, kinda hard on the women, but its a hunting fishing nature lovers dream16:26
MythbuntuGuest98cool, ill have to take note to look into that, is it pretty easy to set up? im assuming one of the computers would be the cache storage and the others would look there first?16:27
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: hard on the women? you're married ;)16:28
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: it's very easy to set up.. you just modify the sources.list on the computers after installing it16:28
lagait's well-documented16:28
MythbuntuGuest98yeah, and she likes it most of the time, but shes always telling me that were moving, (she grew up surrounded by cities) she's done really well, lasted a year before going to town for shoping, hair, movies, eating out, etc...16:29

CacketteEverything was working perfectly until I updated to .21 via the Update Manager. Once it updated, video playback has been broken. For HD recordings, when tried to playback, the video and audio would start, then the video would freeze 1-2 seconds in. For SD recording playbacks, a rainbow pattern/static would show and audio played. I browsed the forums and tried removing mythdvd and updating mythvideo, but the problems still occu17:50
superm1check that you have the prop driver installed properly if you need one17:53
superm1and there are a ton of new settings for changing playback17:53

majoridiotanyone around who knows WTF is wrong with LIRC these days?19:09
lagaum19:09
majoridiotcan't set up a simple MCE remote19:09
lagai can't be worse than before?19:10
majoridiotwell, the remote worked before.  now only every now and then.19:10
majoridiotno clue wtf is going on... everything is as it should be with hardware.conf lircd.conf, etc.  no errors starting/restarting lirc but remote is just... dead.  noting via irw.19:11
lagasudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc? :)19:11
superm1majoridiot, hi19:11
superm18.04?19:11
superm1or 7.10?19:11
majoridiothola superm1!19:11
majoridiot7.10 upgraded19:12
majoridiotto new packages19:12
superm1okay well post your lircd.conf and hardware.conf in a pastebin19:12
majoridioti tried waiting until after the update was complete before configing the remote... still no love.  been fighting this for two days now with no clue where to look next.  everything looks good.19:12
majoridiotsec... lemme move into that box.  it's in another room.19:13
majoridiothttp://paste.uni.cc/1850919:18
majoridiothttp://paste.uni.cc/1851019:18
majoridiotstrange thing is... every now and then it will work- and when it does not, no errors.19:18
majoridiothave confirmed the remote and receiver are 100% on my main box...19:18
majoridiotand moved the receiver (same type) from my main box to this build with no love.  never seen anything like this.19:19
majoridiotsuperm1: did you get my other email about needing firewire info to help suss that all out?19:20
superm1bad usb maybe?19:20
superm1majoridiot, yeah i did but i forgot to reply19:20
superm1and some three hundred emails came after it :)19:20
majoridiotno... tried every port and different cables, even.19:20
majoridiot(i figured)19:20
superm1well those files both look sane19:21
majoridioti know.19:21
superm1so when it doesnt work no errors though?19:21
superm1how is that possible..19:21
majoridiotthat's the maddening part19:21
majoridiotno errors19:21
majoridiotrestart lirc goes just fine.19:21
superm1you sure the hardware is 100%?19:21
superm1well no errors restarting lirc, but is lircd running?19:21
superm1and is the module properly loaded19:21
majoridiotyes- i even tried the one i use every day on my main box.19:21
superm1and being used19:21
majoridiotyes19:22
superm1well you considered apt-get remove --purge lirc19:22
superm1and then reinstall it19:22
superm1choose the remote in the debconf19:22
superm1and let it go with that19:22
majoridiotlspci | grep shows lirc_mceusb2, lirc_imon and lirc_dev are loaded19:22
superm1I doubt it should change anything19:22
superm1oh!19:22
superm1you've got an imon huh19:22
superm1okay well so they are fighting for whom is lirc0 then19:22
majoridiotdude... i've tried reinstalling this from scratch like 6 times, trying different sequences.  nothing seems to work.19:23
majoridiotyeah, ideally i'd like both to work... but i'd settle for just mceusb219:23
superm1blacklist the lirc_imon then19:23
superm1either have to do that or explicitly list the order they get loaded somewhere19:24
majoridiottried straightening it out with multiple device loads in /etc/init.d/lirc like usual, but still no love.19:24
majoridiothm19:24
superm1well the multiple device stuff is a little more complicated with hardy19:24
majoridiotwondered about imon.19:24
superm1i tried to add that into packaging19:24
majoridiotok...19:24
majoridioti've come up bupkiss trying to find a load order setting.  any pointers?19:25
superm1well is imon a usb device?19:25
majoridiotyes19:26
superm1well it might be autoloaded by udev then19:27
superm1you can try two things19:27
majoridiotah19:27

lagaCackette: have you tried selecting a different video display profile?19:27
superm1majoridiot, either add it to the list in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf19:27
superm1majoridiot, or explicitly in /etc/modules19:28
Cackettelaga: which one is recommended?19:28
Cacketteeverything worked before .2119:28
lagaCackette: just try them and see what works for you19:28
Cacketteok19:28
superm1Cackette, slim is the most like how 0.20.2 was19:28
Cackettesuperm1: huh?19:28
superm1but there are tons of options to tweak19:28
superm1the slim profile19:28
Cacketteoh, ok19:28
Cackettethanks, i'll check it19:28
lagaso much for 'even after suggested fixes' ;)19:29
majoridiotsuperm1- ok... i blacklisted lirc_irmon and rebooted. i can get irw data now... :D19:30
superm1majoridiot, see :)19:30
superm1majoridiot, as for firewire stuff19:30
superm1need to get those utils on the firewire page to accept port and node as runtime arguments19:30
majoridiotany recommendations on how to get both modules to play nicely together with lirc?  it's a shame that the volume knob on a $250 htpc case will just sit doing nothing.19:30
superm1its not detected as a hid device?19:31
lagamajoridiot: antec fusion?19:31
majoridiotsilverstone lc1619:31
majoridiotsimilar knob... different params,19:31
lagaah.. just wondering because the antec fusion has got a IR receiver19:31
superm1majoridiot, you sure lirc_imon won't read your mceusb2 remote stuff?19:32
majoridiotthis one does too.  remote is for crap, tho.  super-jinky.19:32
lagamajoridiot: maybe you can use the built-in receiver for your MCE remote19:32
majoridiothm... never tried getting imon to read the mceusb.  is it rc6 compatible?19:32
lagadunno19:32
lagai dont own nifty hardware like that ;)19:33
majoridiotinteresting thought.  will look into that.19:33
majoridiotme neither laga... building it for a friend.19:33
majoridiotmy htpc case set me back $50... and has no knobs but the owner. ;)19:33
Cackettelaga: none of them work19:33
lagaCackette: you should append some meaningful snipprts from /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log to your posting then19:34
majoridiotsuperm1- is that all that is needed for firewire?  to get both primers to take port and node as an argument?19:34
Cackettelaga: what would some meaningful snippets be19:34
superm1majoridiot, if you get that part done i can drop them into the mythtv-backend source package19:34
superm1i've got mythprime already in there19:35
superm1and firewire_tester already in there19:35
superm1should be more than 15-30 lines patch to each of them19:35
majoridiotok... so both the mythprime c code for the moto 6200 and the mythprime_p2p scripts need port and node added as arguments to pass to them.  that's all?19:36
lagaCackette: well, try to start playback and then paste what's in the logs19:37
majoridiotdoesn't seem like a big deal.19:37
Cacketteok19:37
Cackettei'm pretty sure i have logs of that already19:37
lagaCackette: in the forums, not in here please :)19:37

Cackettebut this log is a week old :( i dont remember what time i hit watch tv19:40
lagaCackette: maybe.. you can do it now?19:41
Cackettei could19:41
Cackettewhats the command to start a log again19:41
lagaCackette: sudo rm /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log to delete your old logs, you will have to restart mythfrontend afterwards.19:41

majoridiotsuperm1- there won't be anything to that page, once that is added in.  mainly just troubleshooting stuff.19:45
superm1:)19:45
majoridiotsuperm1- i'll see what i can do about converting them in the next few days.  it's a new area, but i think i can suss it eventually.19:46
majoridiotit's nice to see so many people on the list in here... much better than the old days when there were less than 10 @ any given time :)19:47
superm1majoridiot, this project has gotten a lot bigger19:47
superm1some 140k people have downloaded the iso....19:47
majoridiothehe... think so?19:47
lagasuperm1: the beta?!19:47
majoridiotbest one going.19:47
superm1laga, no just in general :)19:47
lagaah19:47
majoridiotwell, i know that my server doled out 3000+ of the first torrent release. :)19:48
majoridiotlots of folks dumping mythdora to switch over.19:48
lagai wonder if mythdora also has these nasty rpm dependency problems.. i'm seeing a lot of postings regarding broken nvidia kernel modules and stuff on mythtv-users19:49
majoridiotsuperm1- i'm not using firewire anymore, so i have no clue how it is working @ install... is the firewire bus auto-scanned for port and node or are they user-provided?19:50
superm1majoridiot, thats done automatically now adays in myth19:51
superm1the user provided stuff would be in mythprime and such though19:51
superm1unless you can find a way to scan that too19:51
superm1rhpot1991_laptop, uses firewire19:51

majoridiotsuperm1- i don't see why it couldn't be done automatically.19:51
majoridiot'lo rhpot19:52
majoridiotsuperm1- i'll see if i can't put something together to handle an auto-scan and feed the port and node to the primers.19:53
superm1okay19:53
superm1sounds good19:53
majoridiotwill have to be bash or c for now... haven't found time to learn python yet.19:54
superm1c preferably19:54
majoridiotagreed.19:54
majoridiotlast question...19:55
majoridioti can't find a load order for modules loaded @ boot... any clues?19:56
superm1like what modules?19:56
majoridiot(so i can sort out the load order of mceusb before imon)19:56
superm1oh just explicitly list them19:56
superm1in /etc/modules19:56
majoridiotlirc_mceusb lirc_imon19:56
superm1and hopefully that would handle it19:56
superm1one line each19:56
majoridiotok... i thought that... but-19:56
majoridiotif you don't stipulate it there, what default load order is used and where is it stored?19:57
majoridiot(it surprised me lirc_imon and lirc_mceusb2 were being loaded before i even enabled the remote)19:57
superm1majoridiot, udev figures out what's plugged in19:58
superm1and there is no static order19:58
majoridiotor is it just in the order it is detected?19:58
superm1yup order its detected19:58
majoridiotah.  got it.  freekin udev hehe.19:58
majoridiotok... i gotta get this build wrapped up so i can get it to him tomorrow.  he's getting antsy to watch some HD movies on his new 50" plasma. LOL20:00

BojerI just installed a machine as backend, and i am now trying to get another machine to connect to it as a frontend. Both machines are running version 8.04 of mythbuntu and is fully up to date. During the setup i test the connection to the mysql database and it is working fine. The backend is configured to resive remote connection. Then i start the frontend it says the it cant connect to the backend. What have i done wrong?22:09
Tuv0kI had that problem once22:11
Tuv0kit could be a number of things22:11
Tuv0kso your question could be aided by more info22:11
Bojeri tried nmap and the backend seems to be open for connections22:11
Tuv0kmake sure the frontend is using the correct passwd for the backends database22:12
Tuv0kthen make sure you are connecting to the backends ip address and not the frontends localhost address22:12
Bojeri checked it more then once and i guess that it i because it test is ok22:12
Tuv0kthen check the mythtv faq22:12
Tuv0kI would guess the ip address22:12
Bojeri tried both width the dns name and ip22:13
Tuv0kits been a while since I ran into that issue22:13
Bojerand it can ping the backend22:13
Bojeri tried both width 7.10 and 8.0422:13
Bojerand i reinstalled several times22:13
Tuv0kHave you run mythtv-setup on each frontend to set the Master Server IP? First page of the General settings.22:14
Tuv0kI'm no fan of a reinstall22:14
Tuv0kif you are doing something wrong, a reinstall won't fix the issue22:14

Alowishusok, yeah I figured the distro skipping wasn't as well tested22:42
Alowishusthought I'd get to Gutsy this weekend, and then Hardy when it's final22:42
abarbacciaAlowishus: that sounds like a good plan22:42
toorima_but going from dapper to hardy should work or?22:42
toorima_i dont have anything dapper but lts to lts should be possible right22:43
abarbacciatoorima_: no22:43
abarbacciatoorima_: you never want to skip any distribution22:43
abarbacciaLTS just means they support it longer and don't kill it off22:44
Alowishuswell a single distro should just be as easy as "sudo do-release-upgrade", eys?22:44
