mutatismorning all. I'm looking for a stable mythbuntu release, via a popular torrent. can some1 point me in the right direction?07:40
rhpot1991_laptopmutatis: the torrents for 7.10 no longer work IIRC, use the direct download07:41
rhpot1991_laptopthe torrents for 8.04 beta should be pretty speedy now though, if you want to go that route07:42

Tuv0kQSettings: error creating /home/mythtv/.qt10:28
agmI've tried to install a Hardy mythtv backend on a Via Epia system but i can't configure mythtv-setup - it crashes with an "illegal instruction (core dumped)" The system worked fine with gutsy and the .20 mythtv. Have the new packages been optimized to 686?11:23
Tuv0kworks fine on a amd6411:24
Tuv0knot sure if that answers your question11:24
Tuv0konly to say, I'm pretty sure it is11:24
agmI can also run it on a vmware install, unfortunately the via C3 processors don't support all of the 686 instructions11:25
Tuv0koh11:25
lagaagm: they've been optimized for i686 with mmx.11:26
lagaagm: what instruction are you talking about?11:29
agmI don't know specifically, I'll upload the crash report to launchpad a little later11:29
agmI know that it was one of the reasons for keeping the kernel around i38611:30
lagaat least earlier c3 cpus didn't have CMOV which was not mandatory for i686..11:31
agmyeah - I just found it11:31
lagahow old is that CPU?11:32
lagalooks like the nehemiah cores have CMOV11:32
agmpre-nehemiah - its an ezra11:33
directhexvia cpu? PURGE IT WITH FLAME11:33
agmon the early m-10000, m-500011:33
agmweak processor, but uses very little electricity11:33
directhexintel cpus are significantly better on power-per-watt, and via know it11:33
agmdirecthex: can you recommend an intel system that uses 50watt at idle11:35
lagamy intel laptop uses 15W when idle ;)11:36
directhexidle? anything that takes a mobile cpu. or even the D201GLY2A11:36
directhextrivially11:36
directhex50W is a *lot*11:36
lagabut 50W.. should be doable with  efficient chipsets and PSUs11:37
lagadirecthex: i dont think the D201GLY2A will do 3d accel in linux, though11:37
directhexlook at it this way: not all MHz are equal (and via MHz are largely worthless). 7W gets you a 1ghz c7; 8W gets you a 1.06ghz core 2 duo11:37
directhexand 2.5W gets you a 1.8GHz dual-core Atom11:38
directhexa core2 mhz is worth about 5-6x a via one. per core.11:38
lagayeah.. and how is that gonna make mythtv run on his c3? :>11:39
agmlaga: i believe it is the cmov instruction11:39
lagayeah, me too.11:39
directhexhighly likely11:39
lagai dont think we're gonna remove that.. unless the performance hit is neglible11:39
agmThey seem to debate this frequently (i386 packages) on ubuntu-devel11:39
directhexgo compile whatever that "optimized" gentoo for epia is called11:40
laganeglibile*11:40
directhexnegligible.11:40
lagaagm: i'd suggest you download the source packages, modify them to remove the cmov stuff and then recompile.. a PPA might be nixe for this11:41
agmHow has the performance improved in the other builds? I had no problem with the mythbackend on gutsy - and this is with a machine with 256 ram :-)11:41
lagasome guy actually has a EPIA repo11:41
* directhex fails to see the point of such a thing11:41
agmare all of the myth package optimized?11:41
directhexi typed "suck" instead of "such" by accident, my subconcious is clued up11:42
lagaagm: what other packages do we have? ;)11:42
agmThere could be some bug reports if there are a lot of epia front ends.11:43
lagaagm: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=301 <- somewhere in the forums, someone has a PPA for epia specific builds.. maybe you should talk to him11:43
agmWill do, thanks for the help11:43
* directhex wonders which magical epias are being talked about which are capable of displaying video11:44
agmwho displays video on a backend?11:44
lagaagm: yes.. but unless we see some benchamrks (or measure things ourselves) that prove that removing the cmov instruction won't impact performance (negatively), we won't remove it :)11:44
lagabenchmarks*11:44
lagawe already got a lot of people complaining that 0.21 is slower :/11:44
lagadirecthex: xvmc11:44
directhexlaga, yay, xvmc always makes things better. assuming it's supported by the epia in question11:45
lagalots of people are using epia as their frontends11:46
directhexmore fool them, IME11:47
lagaheh11:47
agmlaga: I'm new to buidling debian packages. Do i need to grab the source for each of the myth debs, change the 686 option in debian/rules and then rebuild?12:44
lagaagm: you just apt-get source mythtv12:45
lagathen you have the source for all mythtv packages12:45
agmI've got a folder with mythtv-0.2112:46
lagaagm: maybe there's also a --disable-cmov option, see ./configure --help12:46
lagaagm: yeah12:46
agmbuilding that builds all of the necessary packages?12:46
lagaagm: you can either build it on your system, upload it to a PPA or use pbuilder..12:46
lagaagm: yes.. but not mythplugins, you will have to rebuild them against your new libmyth*12:46
lagaagm: you probably want to add a new changelog entry before rebuilding12:47
agmcool, thanks for the help12:47
lagai use "dch -v" from the devscripts12:47
yotuxcan mythbuntu handle blu-ray?12:47
lagano12:48
lagaagm: use 'apt-get build-dep mythtv' to get all the build dependencies for mythtv.. if you choose to build it locally12:49
yotuxthankz12:49
lagayotux: it's possible to rip blu ray disks to your hard disks and play them from there, but that's cumbersome and basically circumventing copy protection which is illegal in a lot of countries12:51

mutatisAfternoon all. Is it ok to ask for help in this channel?13:35
sp3ctGreetings all. I just ran an update on my mythtv server this morning.  And now myth is not very happy. It does not start right, just into X with the window manager. And most every tool I try to use breaks with an "Illegal instruction (core dumped)". any pointers help would be appreciated. is this a CPU incompatiability ?  server uses a Via C3 Ezra chip.13:36
mutatis*sees*13:37
mutatisShould USB drives auto-mount in Mythbuntu 7.10?13:39
yotuxmutatis: I think so13:39
yotuxmutatis: what seems to be the issue?13:41
mutatiswell.. I'm new to Linux... so everything is an issue. :)13:41
mutatisMy USB drive doesn't appear13:41
agmsp3ct: are you running gutsy or hardy13:42
mutatisand I can't get into root, using 'su root'13:42
yotuxthere is no root account in ubuntu13:42
sp3ctI originally installed from the mythbuntu 7.10, so guessing gutsy13:42
mutatisis there a default password I missed in the installation?13:42
mutatisyotux: really? aha.13:42
yotuxif you really need root sudo su13:43
mutatisso... I'm already root?13:43
yotuxno you are a administrator with sudo rights13:43
yotuxI would use this command sudo lsusb13:43
agmsp3ct: if you updated to .21 they are build with instructions not supported by the ezra13:43
agmsp3ct: i got bit by the same thing13:44
yotuxlsusb -- that should list all usb devices connected13:44
sp3ctagm: ugh...  any easy way to downgrade back ?  and I guess from this point on, I can't apply myth updates..  any way to set that in the apt-get config somewhere ?13:45
sp3ctOr I just need to upgrade my board...*sigh*13:45
agmsp3ct: can you get into synaptic?13:47
sp3ctyes13:48
agmwhat repositories do you have enabled?13:49
mutatisyotux: thanks, it's listed under lsusb13:50
sp3ctagm, you want me to paste all of them ?13:51
yotuxmutatis:  most of the time my flash drive mount its self @ /media/disk13:51
sp3ctwould of been whatever was per installation + rep that provides restricted/proprietary packages13:51
mutatisyotux: thanks. and how do i add the files to the video library?13:52
mutatisit says no files, presumably it's just looking on main hdd atm13:52
yotuxmutatis:  you have video on flash?13:52
mutatison portable usb harddrive actually13:53
mutatiscan i set up a symlink or something?13:53
yotuxmutatis: let me do a little digging13:53
agmsp3ct: check repositories and see if you have gutsy-backports enabled13:55
sp3ctagm: I do13:55
sp3ct2 of them13:56
agmenabling these brings newer updates than in standard Gutsy13:57
agmdisable these repositories and reload13:57
agmreload (refresh) the list in synaptic, don't reboot :-)13:58
sp3ctagm: Done13:59
yotuxmutatis: from doing a little digging I think that you want a plugin called mythvideo14:00
yotuxI have not modified my video library yet14:00
mutatisok. thanks yotux14:01
mutatiswill do a little downloading and untarring and let you know how it goes. I'm new to Ubuntu though so it might take a while14:01
mutatis:)14:01
yotuxi'll install it and play around a little bit with it14:02
agmsp3ct: do you have a large database of shows or can you lose it and start over?14:02
yotuxI would use apt as much as you can14:02
mutatisapt?14:02
mutatiswp:apt14:02
yotuxapt-get install [package name]14:02
mutatisah. ok. i'm with you14:02
sp3ctagm: Well I was just start using mythtv..  and have about 66 G of recorded shows...  So guess I could start fresh...  not overly desireable tho14:03
mutatiswhat recording cards do people rate? I'm going to buy (on payday) and I'd like something well supported and reliable with minimum hassles for a newbie.  *asking for moon while he's at it*14:05
sp3ctvia C3 ezra, wasn't the best of cpus...  but i had it laying around...14:05
agmsp3ct: you could try to dump the database via phpmyadmin first before reverting the version14:06
sp3ctbut I am thinking about doing vlc streaming to a mediaMVP, and will prolly need a better cpu14:06
agmdefinitely14:06
agmif you're transcoding14:06
sp3ctyeah.. so maybe I just start fresh with a new board...  *sigh*  but really didn't want to spend the $14:07
yotuxmutatis: are you talking about a capture card?14:08
agmif you just want to get up running again, you can uninstall all the mythtv via synaptic and then reinstall (only the 20.2) will be available14:08
agmif your database hasn't been modified, it might work. Otherwise drop the database and reconfigure.14:09
agmI don't use mythbuntu-control-centre, so I don't know much about that14:10
mutatisyotux: yes, for capture14:12
yotuxLookjng at SD or HD14:13
yotuxhere a link for you http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Video_capture_card14:14
yotuxI bought a Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE has no remote but FM radio instead14:15
yotuxmutatis:  that plugin that I told you about will follow sys links also14:15
lUrkUr0hi all - can I get some advice on a prob with my dvb-t card?14:16
sp3ctagm: Thank you for your help, and your advice.14:19
lUrkUr0http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/6014/14:19
agmsp3ct: hope it works out for you14:20
sp3ctprolly will just wait until I have a board to upgrade too...  now the quest for energy efficient, can ramp up for transcoding, and is quiet...14:21
lUrkUr0here goes: I have 2 twinhan 3020 cards (bttv driver) - these are detected correctly but no matter what i try i can't pick up any signal from either14:24
lUrkUr0does anyone know how to trouble shoot this?14:25
yotuxI had a problem like yours but I found out I was using the wrong input device14:30
lUrkUr0myth correctly detects it  - and so do the dvb-utils like 'scan' but no joy....14:31
agmlUrkUr0: can you tune with the scan utility?14:44

laga;)15:22
lagawild_oscar: the mythtv devs dont like it if their channel is cluttered up, so it's better to talk here15:22
wild_oscar:)15:23
wild_oscarI am trying to use tv_grab_pt of the xmltv15:23
wild_oscarthe current version in the ubuntu repositories (0.5.49) isn't working, so I got the latest cvs one15:24
wild_oscarwhich gave me this error15:24
wild_oscarCan't locate Unicode/UTF8simple.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/bin/tv_grab_pt line 88.15:24
wild_oscarBEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/tv_grab_pt line 88.15:24
wild_oscarI tried to look up for this error, and it had probably been fixed in the ubuntu version: http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/x/xmltv/xmltv_0.5.49-1ubuntu1/changelog15:25
lagawild_oscar: did you run apt-get build-dep xmltv?15:25
lagawild_oscar: if it was fixed in the debian/ubuntu packages, you should try to build the version from hardy on your box instead15:25
wild_oscarwhere is that located?15:26
wild_oscarI used the one from cvs http://xmltv.cvs.sourceforge.net/xmltv/xmltv/grab/pt/ because it is 2 weeks old15:27
wild_oscarand latest cvs comment is " Site new date formatting.", which was probably the error I was getting previously15:27
lagaah.15:28
lagaright.15:28
lagawild_oscar: i think the best thing you can do is:15:28
lagaget the source package from packages.ubuntu.com for hardy15:28
lagabuild that and install the packages on hardy15:28
wild_oscarI was now trying to change the cvs version to include the changes chris made in the ubuntu version15:29
lagaif tv_grab_pt doesn't work, get the patch from http://xmltv.cvs.sourceforge.net/xmltv/xmltv/grab/pt/ and apply.. if it works15:29
lagafile a bug report against xmltv in launchpad and we'll fix it for hardy15:29
wild_oscari'm running gutsy though15:29
lagayeah, that's why you have to rebuild xmltv..15:29
lagawild_oscar: i'd suggest prevu for that15:30
wild_oscarwill have a look15:32
wild_oscartaking a while to set prevu up15:37
lagayeah..15:37
lagai usually do it the complicated way, but i don't want to clutter my normal box with all those -dev packages15:37
wild_oscarwhat's the complicated way?15:38
lagawell, that is the complicated way15:39
MythbuntuGuest98i was going to try out the diskless server, but ended up not having enough room for the image, the client im going to use has a 4g drive in it, if i moved it to the backend it should be big enough shouldnt it?15:39
wild_oscarlaga: yes, it's a tad complicated...I have no idea about this prevu thing15:40
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: yes.. you probably need about 1-2GB when creating the image.. and some space for each client15:41
lagawild_oscar: there's a wiki page15:41
wild_oscarit builds packages and makes them available on synaptic for previous versions, is that i?15:41
wild_oscarreading it15:41
MythbuntuGuest98ok and where should i mount it?15:41
lagawild_oscar: it may seem more complicated, but i think it'll help greatly when you need to backport additional packages to satisfy new dependencies15:41
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: /opt/ltsp/15:42
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: the clients put their files in /var/cache/mythbuntu-diskless/, you'll probably need 100-200M there15:42
TelnetMantacan anyone tell me how to view a slideshow of my images?15:43
wild_oscarright now it'll only be interesting for a couple of weeks, as hardy is almost ready15:43
lagawild_oscar: now imagien that tv_grab_pt is broken in hardy as well ;)15:43
lagaimagine*15:43
wild_oscarwe'll see that in a while! ;)15:45
MythbuntuGuest98im not exactly sure how it works, but would it be better to just mount it in /media and symlink from each of those peices, that way each place can take as much of the pie as they need?15:46
MythbuntuGuest98um i mean /media/drivename15:46
lagaMythbuntuGuest98: yeah, you can do that.. i wouldn't use symlinks, bind mounts might work better15:47
MythbuntuGuest98ok ill look up bind mounts and see how they work15:48
lagasudo mkdir /media/drivename/ltsp && sudo mkdir /media/drivename/overlay && sudo mount -o bind /media/drivename/ltsp/ /opt/ltsp/...15:48
lagasomething like that15:48
lagayou should add them to fstab, too15:48
laga(won't that 4GB drive be noisy as hell?)15:48
MythbuntuGuest98i dont know, havent used it in a while, all my hardware is old and noisy though, so i probably wont notice15:49
lagahah, good call :)15:50
MythbuntuGuest98the "plan" is once i get everything working good ill put it them all in a room in the basement and run wires from there, doubt ill ever find the motivation though15:50
lagano wife to yell at you for having noisy computers?15:52
MythbuntuGuest98yeah, she complains some15:53
MythbuntuGuest98she has gotten used to it though15:53
lagatoo bad for your motivation15:53
MythbuntuGuest98lol15:54
=== MythbuntuGuest97 is now known as Trollgaard
wild_oscarlaga: shouldn't prevu solve dependencies in the xmltv package?16:06
lagawild_oscar: i hope so16:06
wild_oscarit's complaining about "Aptitude couldn't satisfy the build dependencies"16:07
lagaoh16:08
lagait doesnt do it automagically16:08

wild_oscarall set16:18
wild_oscarlaga: the hardy one is the same as gutsy, I believe16:20
lagawild_oscar: the xmltv package?16:20
wild_oscarsorry, not the package, but the tv_grab_pt file problem16:20
lagaokay.. so we need you to identify the patch which fixes this so we can put it into hardy :)16:22
wild_oscarhmm...wait; I see that the cvs version also doesn't have the web change16:22
lagaah?16:22
wild_oscarare you able to run the script in your machine?16:22
wild_oscarthe latest cvs version, preferably16:22
lagaheh16:22
lagayou're lucky, i just updated to the latest CVS16:23
lagawell, i'm in the process of finding out why updating didn't work...16:23
wild_oscarhehe16:23
wild_oscarwell, when you have the latest tv_grab_pt available for test tell me...I'll try to change the script in the meantim16:24
wild_oscar*time16:24
lagai wish the sourceforge CVs servers were faster16:29
wild_oscarlaga: do you know how to check which cvs revision is on the hardy package?16:38
lagawild_oscar: tv_grab_pt --help16:38
lagaor --version16:38
wild_oscarplain old --version will do the trick16:38
wild_oscarwell...sort of16:39
wild_oscarthey may have changed some stuff, as the line numbering doesn't match16:40

Tuv0kgood luck16:58
wild_oscarmy main goal is to add channel listings to mythtv16:58
wild_oscarwell, after I configure mythtv properly16:58
Tuv0kthere is a guide for that16:58
lagawild_oscar: there's a button in mythtv-setup for that :)16:59
Tuv0knice, reduced to a button16:59
lagabut someone needs to be have submitted channel logos before.. or rather some other information16:59
lagai think16:59
wild_oscarbut now I just wanted to get a nice app to make me not forget some tv programs!16:59
wild_oscarlaga: channel logos, that is?16:59
lagathey have a database of channel logos and you need to select the right one, IIRC16:59

wild_oscarI was going to try to configure mythv...17:33
wild_oscarbut I opened tvtime and mariah carrey is singing on vh117:33
wild_oscarand suddently I forgot what I was doing17:34
wild_oscarI used the tv_grab_pt to grab the channel listings in mythtv...and it told me to run mythfilldatabase --manual17:53
wild_oscarit is now asking me, presumably, for the channel number of all the xml programming it found17:53
lagawild_oscar: mythfilldatabase --manual --preset17:53
wild_oscarhow do I know which numbers should go?17:54
wild_oscarwhat is the --preset argument for?17:54
laga--preset will ask you for numbers for the channels, so if you say channel ABC should be on 5, you can just hit 5 on your remote17:54
lagavery useful for europe because we have alphanumeric frequency ids.. the US doesnt have that.17:54
lagatheirs are numeric only.17:55
lagawild_oscar: you can use 'scantv' from the xawtv package...17:55
lagaor go to the website of your cable company17:55
wild_oscarare they the same numbers as in, say, the tvtime software?17:56
lagayeah.17:56
wild_oscaroh, ok17:56
lagai hope so at least :)17:56
wild_oscarI'll check with that then...17:56
wild_oscarlaga: scantv is great! :D18:06
wild_oscarhow does it find the channel name info?18:06
lagaoh, it does? ;) from the 'teletext'/'videotext'..18:07
wild_oscarthe wonders of technology...18:11
wild_oscar:p18:11
wild_oscarlaga: what's the difference between channel ID and channel preset on fillmydb --preset?18:23
lagai think that's the primary key for the channels table in mysql.. at least that's what i says on the german wiki18:24
wild_oscarid is the alphanumeric code (SE11, E8, 44) you get on the output of scantv?18:24
lagai think you just ender a number there18:25
lagawild_oscar: no, that's the frequency id18:25
lagas/ender/enter/18:25
lagawild_oscar: or check wiki.mythtv.org18:25
wild_oscarhow do you access/change this info after running filldb?18:45
wild_oscarI presume running filldatabase again will override the previous settings18:45
lagawhat settings?18:47
wild_oscarchannel info (id, name, preset, frequencyid, tv format, icon)18:50
laganow18:50
lagait's stored in the DB18:50
lagawell18:50
lagait'll override if you run mythfilldatabase --manual again ;()18:51
lagaIIRC#18:51
lagabut for minor adjustments, mythweb or mythtv-setup are better18:51
npurcifulhey whats up18:53
npurcifulhey i have a question about my hdhomerun about 2 days ago i was unable to lock on my local cbs station @ 9.1 so i did a hdhomerun_config scan it found the channel and so manual st and tuned to the channel. but mythtv cant lock on it18:56
npurcifulSCANNING: 623000000 (us-bcast:39) LOCK: 8vsb (ss=100 snq=74 seq=100) PROGRAM: 9: 9.1 KWTV-118:57
wild_oscarwhat if it runs mythfilldatabase, as it asks for whenever you run mythsetup?18:57
wild_oscarwon't override these settings?18:57
lagawild_oscar: no, mythfilldatabase just fills the DB with EPG data18:58
wild_oscarah, cheers18:58
lagawild_oscar: do you have a working patch for tv_grab_pt18:59
laga?18:59
wild_oscaroh, sorry19:00
wild_oscarI do19:00
wild_oscarit's the same as in cvs 14419:01
wild_oscar1.4419:01
shadoreso ... i built a mythbuntu box, and i have a question........ should 2GB of memory be enough to record two live HDTV ota signals at once? I do not do any transcoding on the box, only commerical flagging with low cpu usage19:01
wild_oscaronly the hardy version doesn't match the line numbering of 1.4319:01
shadorei sometimes get glitches in my hd recordings =/19:01
wild_oscarthe diff is http://xmltv.cvs.sourceforge.net/xmltv/xmltv/grab/pt/tv_grab_pt?view=diff&r1=text&tr1=1.44&r2=text&tr2=1.43&diff_format=h19:02
lagawild_oscar: if you could file a bug against xmltv in hardy, we'll fix it there19:02
wild_oscarin https://launchpad.net/ubuntu ?19:05
lagawild_oscar: yeah19:05
wild_oscarwill do that19:06
wild_oscarI take it that I can add/edit presets afterward in mythv?19:06
lagayes19:07
Cacketteplease help: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=732020 my box hasnt worked in over a week.19:11
wild_oscarhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xmltv/+bug/20566219:12
lagathanks19:13
lagaCackette: and i'm telling you *again*, try a video display profile which doesn't use xvmc-blit and post the löogs19:13
lagas/löogs/logs/19:13
Cackettelaga: i've tried every video profile19:16
Cacketteand none of them work19:16
lagaCackette: yes, but please post logs19:16
Cackettehow do i know which profile doesnt use xvmc-blit19:16
lagaby looking in the profile editor for example19:16
lagai think it's also display in that window where you choose the profile19:17
Cacketteit'll be a while before i can post logs19:17
Cackettehave some easter stuff going down19:17
Cackettelaga19:20
Cackettei dont see any profile that doesnt use xv-blit atleast once19:21
lagaCackette: xv-blit is OK (and it used to be the default), just xvmc-blit is bad19:22
Cacketteok19:22
Cacketterecommend a profile?19:23
Cackettemaybe Slim? or CPU--19:23
CacketteCPU-- is the only one i've gotten anything to work in, but only SD19:23
lagai dont know, i use custom profiles i set up a few months ago :)19:25
Cacketteoh...19:25
Cackettealright, i gave it a shot w/ one that doesnt have xvmc-blit19:30
Cackettelaga: http://pastebin.org/2501219:31
lagaCackette: and you get no video? do you get audio?19:33
Cacketteyeah19:33
Cacketteno video, only audio19:33
Cacketteon both HD and SD19:33
lagaok.. can you go into the video display profile editor and select a different interlacer? maybe none at all, just for testing?19:34
Cackettevideo display profile editor?19:34
Cackettewhat is that under19:34
lagait's where you set the video display profile19:34
lagayou can hit "edit" there19:34
Cackettesuch as CPU-- or CPU+?19:34
Cacketteplayback profile?19:34
lagayeah19:35
lagaright, playback profile19:35
lagasorry for the confusion19:35
Cackettedo i have to go thru all 5 and change the interlacer?19:35
Cackettelike all 5 edit buttons19:35
Cacketteor what19:35
lagaonly for the ones which match your setup.. eg quartz won't apply unless you use mac os X ;)19:36
Cackettehow do i know which ones match my setup19:36
lagajust modify them all ;)19:39
Cacketteto what19:39
lagaCackette: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Playback_profiles here is some documentation19:39
Cackettei'm considering going to Hardy 8.04, they seem to have abandoned Gutsy19:39
lagaCackette: disable the deinterlacer..19:40
lagaCackette: who's "they"? :)19:40
Cacketteyeah, i'll try that first19:40
Cackettethe mythbuntu guys19:40
Cacketteshould I try it on CPU--, where SD playback wroks?19:40
Cacketteand see if maybe HD playback will start19:40
lagano, cpu-- will try xvmc-blit i think19:40
Cacketteoh, true19:40
lagathe problem with xvmc-blit is that it'll fall back to opengl, and opengl doesn't work everywhere19:41
lagawe have yet to fix that19:41
Cackettestick w/ the current one i used in the log?19:41
lagaCackette: of course, you can try hardy, but i don't recall any fixes going into mythtv in hardy which would benefit your current problem..19:41
CacketteCPU++ is the only one where i've actually seen HD video, but the video freezes 1 sec after it starts, and the audio continues19:41
Cacketteuses xv-blit19:42
wild_oscarphew...all channels inserted19:42
Cacketteshould i try that one, laga?19:43
lagaCackette: yes, try cpu++19:43
lagaand remove the deinterlacing19:43
Cacketteok19:43
Cackettewant a log w/ it?19:43
lagasure.. unless it starts working ;)19:43
Cacketteok19:43
Cacketteactually, it says None is default19:45
Cacketteboth primary and secondary are None19:45
lagafor all resolutions19:46
Cacketteshould i try setting them to what the playback_profiles wiki says'19:46
Cackettebobdeint and linearblend19:47
lagait can't hurt..19:47
Cacketteok19:47
lagai was assuming/hoping that the yadif deinterlacer used in the playback profile from which you showed me the logs was simply overloading your system..19:47
laganow that i'm looking at the profiles, "slim" seems like a good choice19:47
lagaCackette: is this a frontend or a combined frontend/backend computer?19:48
Cackettecombined19:50
Cackettei have a new log19:50
lagathat's too bad.. otherwise it would have been very easy to try hardy :/19:50
Cacketteyeah19:50
Cackettethis time, w/ CPU++, SD had no video and had audio, HD had neither video nor audio19:51
Cackettehttp://pastebin.org/2501719:51
lagathat's very unfortunate19:51
Cacketteso i should try Slim?19:51
lagayeah.. i dont think it's gonna work, though.19:52
Cackette:(19:52
Cackettewhat is wrong19:52
lagai also wonder why you're getting these "audio stream changed" messages.19:52
Cackettei want .20 back :( it worked fine19:54
lagaCackette: then downgrade ;)19:54
lagacan you play that recording in mplayer?19:55
Cackettei dont know how19:55
Cacketteactually, i cant get any of the recordings to work on the linux box19:55
Cackettebut when i download them from MythWeb to my windows boxes, they work19:55
wild_oscarany idea why video is sluggish and audio a bit out of sync in mythtv?19:55
wild_oscarwhile running ok in other applications19:55
lagaCackette: try mplayer. open a terminal, then run mplayer -vo xv /var/lib/mythtv/recordings/some-file-there19:57
lagawild_oscar: check the mythtv wiki19:57
lagathat's a FAQ i think19:57
Cackettelaga: is that any different that just opening mplayer and loading a file into it19:57
wild_oscarsearching for it19:59
lagaCackette: not really..20:00
lagaCackette: except that you explicitly tell it to use xv20:00
Cacketteok, no worky20:01
Cackettehttp://pastebin.org/2501820:01
lagaCackette: ugh, weird. does it work with -vo x11?20:02
lagaif that's a HD recording, it'll probably be very stuttery20:02
Cackettemplayer -vo x11 you mean?20:02
Cacketteyeah, thats an HD recording20:02
lagayes, mplayer -vo x1120:03
Cackettelemme check20:03
Cackettehttp://pastebin.org/25019 video, but no audio20:05
lagaso20:06
lagahum20:06
lagaif we ignore the audio problem, i'd say that your video drivers are broken.20:06
lagabut the audio might be relevant20:06
lagacan you play mp3s on that computer?20:06
Cackettei'm using the restricted driver20:06
Cackettebecause the regular ones wouldnt do 1920x108020:07
Cacketteas for mp3 playback, lemme try20:08
Cackettewhat program do i use to try it20:08
lagamplayer ;)20:08
Cacketteok20:08
Cacketteany command line stuff or just open it20:09
Cackettethe mp3 i just transferred is in /var/lib/mythtv/music20:09
lagajust open it20:09
Cacketteok20:09
Cackettebrb20:09
wild_oscarlaga: do you have any idea where in the wiki they address sluggish performance and audio sync problems? can't find it for television20:10
lagawild_oscar: in the FAQ, no? if your audio is out of sync be 1-2 seconds and you use a framegrabber card, then it should be in the faq20:10
Cacketteoh snap, laga20:11
Cackettethe audio actually does work in mplayer, it was just muted20:11
Cacketteon the mpg and the mp320:12
lagaheh20:13
Cacketteso with x11, the HD video worked fully20:13
Cacketteboth video and audio20:13
Cacketteshould i try it on a SD video as well? or will it work the same20:14
wild_oscarwhat's a framegrabber card?20:19
CacketteSD works fine as well20:19
Cacketteso, laga, now what?20:19
wild_oscarlaga: it's not only a question of out-of-sync audio20:25
wild_oscarit's out-of-sync and/or sluggish20:25
wild_oscarlaga: if I use /dev/dsp as the audio device of the card I don't get a sluggish performance, but a weirder issue20:39
wild_oscaraudio is echoed with a 0.5 second delay20:39
wild_oscarand audio continues even after closing mythtb20:39
wild_oscartv20:39

tgm4883notice that the 386 kernel is installed and not the generic one20:44
pdragonok20:45
tgm4883reboot and select the generic kernel during oot20:45
tgm4883see if it fixes your problem20:45
tgm4883if it does, there are a few things we need to do20:45
pdragonok. have to reconnect to irc quick. usually keep it running on my mythtv box :)20:45
pdragonbrb20:45
pdragonok. rebooting it now20:46
pdragoni take it if this fixes it, i'll just need to fix the grub menu?20:47
tgm4883well kinda20:47
tgm4883we will remove the 386 kernel and it will fix the grub menu20:47
pdragonwell, not just that i imagine20:47
pdragonok20:47
tgm4883actually, IIRC, it is just removing the 386 kernel20:48
tgm4883laga, will comment on that just to be sure though20:48
pdragonbeen having some other issues with livetv since the last 7.10 kernel update and .21. figured i'd just upgrade to hardy to help test and see if maybe it can fix anything20:48
pdragonhmm... i think it's hanging and not booting now20:49

MythbuntuGuest75hey all,  maybe i'm being dense here but i just downloaded mythbuntu 7.1 and im wondering how the heck do you burn this to a cd?  Its not an iso?20:54
tgm4883_laptopsudo apt-get remove mythbuntu-desktop20:54
tgm4883_laptopthen20:54
tgm4883_laptopinstall it again20:54
tgm4883_laptopit's a metapackage20:54
MythbuntuGuest75unfortunately im running windows vista on my home machine20:54
pdragonrebooted and using the 386 kernel it starts right up20:54
tgm4883_laptopit is an iso20:55
JThundleyMythbuntuGuest75: it should be an iso20:55
pdragonany log you want me to check?20:55
wild_oscartgm4883 - the textbook software encoder issue is the one I refered?20:55
MythbuntuGuest75hmmm all i get is a .rar file and a md5 checksum20:55
tgm4883_laptopMythbuntuGuest75, where did you download from?20:56
MythbuntuGuest75mythbuntu's site20:56
tgm4883_laptopoh nm, i know the issue20:56
tgm4883_laptopit is a iso20:56
tgm4883_laptopbut winrar sometimes thinks it can handle iso files20:56
TelnetMantatgm4883_laptop: Ok, that didnt work either....20:57
TelnetMantatgm4883_laptop: I removed it then went to the webpage and it reinstalled but the script didnt run to set it up....20:57
MythbuntuGuest75alright, ill check the settings in there and get nero installed again20:57
NikasSo. How do i add a new mysql-user with all rights?20:58
Nikasi cant use root. complains about password?20:58
tgm4883_laptopNikas, do you have any other users that have all rights?20:58
tgm4883_laptopor that can grant rights?20:59
tgm4883_laptopTelnetManta, sounds like everything is installed, whats happening?20:59
Nikastgm4883_laptop, i dont know. i just know about the "mythtv"-account and no grant there :/20:59
Nikasi need to add a database and one more user but i dont know how.21:00
* tgm4883_laptop has bitten off more than he can chew21:00
TelnetMantatgm4883_laptop: I found the control center under administratoin menu21:00
tgm4883_laptopwild_oscar, yes21:04
pdragonhehe21:04
wild_oscartgm4883_laptop: I have managed to stop that problem21:05
wild_oscarby muting the "Aux" device of alsamixer21:05
wild_oscarwhich is the one that has to be used in tvtime21:05
wild_oscarthen I got razzy sound as described here http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Sound_Troubleshooting#Echo_on_audio_input21:06
tgm4883_laptoppdragon, do this21:08
tgm4883_laptopdmesg | grep ivtv and pastebin the output21:08
wild_oscarand changed the audio as described in the same page:  Prepend "ALSA:" to the name of the device, eg "ALSA:default:CARD=nForce2"21:08
wild_oscarnow I get good sound, but a) delayed about half a second and b) continues even after I close mythtv21:09
pdragonhttp://pastebin.com/d3a06e3321:09
pdragonthis is when it's booted with the non-generic kernel21:10
tgm4883_laptoppdragon, yep.  It's exactly the same problem that I had21:12
tgm4883_laptophttps://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/18828721:12
tgm4883_laptopTelnetManta, what part isn't being setup correctly? the db?21:12
pdragonnot getting any sound at all either21:12
tgm4883_laptoppdragon, yes, thats because your modules are for the generic kernel21:13
tgm4883_laptopit's interesting though that you are unable to boot the generic kernel tough21:13
tgm4883_laptopwild_oscar, yes, thats textbook.  What is happening is that you are grabbing the direct audio, but the video is coming from your hard drive21:14
tgm4883_laptopis the a/v in sync?21:14
tgm4883_laptopNikas, why do you need to grant another user access?21:14
Nikastgm4883_laptop: i dont need to really but i need a new database and a new user for another application on the same box21:15
tgm4883_laptopah21:15
tgm4883_laptoptry this21:15
Nikasi dont need a new user with grant i mean21:15
tgm4883_laptopwel first, what password are you using for root?21:16
Nikastgm4883_laptop: none? ;)21:16
tgm4883_laptopok, and you didn't setup a root password?21:16
Nikasi dont know. just using the mythtv-user21:16
tgm4883_laptopok, can you try this21:17
tgm4883_laptopmysql -u root21:17
Nikasyes i did but the password does not let me in21:17
NikasAccess denied21:18
tgm4883_laptopreason?21:18
wild_oscaroh, man...this is A LOT harder than I expected21:18
NikasAccess denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)21:18
wild_oscartgm4883_laptop: it depends21:18
tgm4883_laptopwild_oscar, unfortunatly it is with cheap cards21:18
Nikasi have tried -pPASSWORDS_I_KNOW21:18
wild_oscarnow I get static on the sound21:19
wild_oscartgm4883_laptop: when I have echoed sound I can't see if a/v is sync21:20
wild_oscarif I mute the cd/aux in alsamixer I get static in mythtv21:21
TelnetMantatgm4883_laptop: I got it installed but it wont run at all....21:21
wild_oscarbut it works ok in tvtime21:21
TelnetMantaI mean, I ran the configurator and setup the DB connection to the BE and it tested fine. But when I launch the frontend it doenst do anything21:21
wild_oscaralthough, after I run mythtv tvtime also outputs static: I have to change default audio standard to PAL-BG in that program21:22
pdragontgm4883_laptop: i know you're swamped. when you have a chance, any idea where to look to see why the generic kernel isn't booting?21:22
tgm4883_laptopTelnetManta, error messages?21:22
pdragontried looking in logs, but not really sure what to look for21:23
tgm4883_laptoppdragon, you need to boot the kernel in non quiet mode.  That way you can see where it hangs21:23
pdragonhow do i do that?21:23
tgm4883_laptopyou might also be able to just ctrl alt F1 during boot to see it21:23
pdragon<--- noob21:23
pdragoni tried doing that21:23
pdragonit didn't respond21:23
foxbuntutgm4883_laptop, hey...I need help!21:24
* tgm4883_laptop stabs foxbuntu with a rusty spoon21:24
wild_oscartgm4883_laptop: if I change the audio in mythv from ALSA:default:CARD=Intel to ALSA:default:CARD=SAA7134 it works with a/v out of sync and without stopping when I leave mythtv21:24
wild_oscartgm4883_laptop: any of this makes sense?21:25
tgm4883_laptopwild_oscar, makes perfect sense as to why that is happening21:25
tgm4883_laptopfoxbuntu, really need help?21:25
wild_oscarcould you please enlighten me?21:25

pdragonwhere should the output be going if i removed the 'quiet'. still went to the mythbuntu load screen and hung there21:31
tgm4883_laptophmm21:32
tgm4883_laptoppdragon, sec21:32
pdragonk21:32
pdragonhmm... did it get rid of the Autostart application menu?21:33
tgm4883_laptoppdragon, take a look at this  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/7197  it should let you see what is happening21:34
pdragonmeh... never mind that now21:34
pdragonbleh... i'm dumb. i commented out the wrong "quiet" i think21:36
pdragonthere's one on the kernel line and another later in each entry21:36
pdragonIt's hanging at: "Begin: Waiting for root file system ... ..."21:41
foxbuntuTelnetManta, hello21:44
foxbuntuTelnetManta, tgm4883_laptop tells me that you had mythbunut-desktop fail to install or is installed but broken21:45
wild_oscartgm4883_laptop: back21:52
foxbuntuwild_oscar, I was talking to tgm4883_laptop about your issue21:55
foxbuntucan you give me just a quick overview21:55
foxbuntuI think I have a clue, but need a quick ack story21:56
BojerI have just installed mythbuntu 8.04 on two machines. 1st is the master backend and the 2nd is the frontend. On the 1st machine i am able to get the frontend to connect but on the 2nd machine i get an error saying "Could not connect to the master backend server - is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?". On the 1st machine the frontend is configured to use the lan ip and not 127.0.0.1. If i open22:00
Bojerthe Mythbuntu Control Center on the 2nd machine and try to test the MySQL connection it passes. What could be wrong?22:00
wild_oscarfoxbuntu:22:04
wild_oscarsound works well on external tv player, such as tvtime22:04
weebayanyone willing to chat about mythbuntu + firewire?22:05
wild_oscaron mythtv-setup, /dev/dsp is chosen22:06
wild_oscaron frontend, audio output device: ALSA: default:CARD=SAA713422:07
wild_oscara/v out of sync and audio continues even after closing frontend22:07
foxbuntuwild_oscar, have you tried in the FE turning off the internal Myth controls, setting the device to ALSA:default and then making sure that PCM is not turned all the way up/down in alsamixer?22:07
foxbuntuwild_oscar, and I assume you are up-to-date?22:08
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: if ALSA:default is chosen, I get crappy sound22:09
wild_oscar"razzy" sound22:10
wild_oscardistorted sound22:10
foxbuntuwild_oscar, have you checked PCM?22:10
pdragontgm4883_laptop: seems like the generic kernel can't see my root hard drive22:11
foxbuntuit sounds like your PCM channel is saturated22:11
wild_oscarand the echo, which I can eliminate by muting the cd/aux of alsamixer22:11
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: checked what, specifically?22:11
foxbuntupdragon, what type of HDD and which kernel?22:11
foxbuntuwild_oscar, have you been into alsamixer?22:12
pdragonwestern digital 250gb sata. the 386 kernel that got installed can see it fine and boots up, but my tuner and sound don't work22:12
pdragontgm suggested picking the generic kernel from the boot menu, but it hangs during bootup22:12
pdragonIt's hanging at: "Begin: Waiting for root file system ... ..."22:12
pdragonthen drops to a busybox prompt saying /dev/sda1 cannot be found22:13
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: and/or gnome-volume-control, when I tried to fix the echo sound problem22:13
pdragonor "does not exist" are the exact words22:13
foxbuntupdragon, I think I saw a bug similar to that, what is your arch?22:14
foxbuntuwild_oscar, open alsamixer22:14
pdragonwhat does arch mean?22:14
wild_oscarso basically, I get either a)distorted sound and deletable echo or b) a/v out of sync and audio persistent after closing mythtv (until I open tvtime)22:14
foxbuntutype of cpu22:14
pdragon2.80 Intel Celeron22:15
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: yes...22:15
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: Hi, thats correct22:15
pdragon2.80ghz22:15
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: mythfrontend wont start on my gutsy desktop22:15
Bojercan somone give me a hand?22:16
foxbuntuTelnetManta, MythTV 0.20.2 or 0.21?22:16
foxbuntuBojer, start your question and let someone try to answer :)22:16
BojerI have just installed mythbuntu 8.04 on two machines. 1st is the master backend and the 2nd is the frontend. On the 1st machine i am able to get the frontend to connect but on the 2nd machine i get an error saying "Could not connect to the master backend server - is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?". On the 1st machine the frontend is configured to use the lan ip and not 127.0.0.1. If i open22:17
Bojerthe Mythbuntu Control Center on the 2nd machine and try to test the MySQL connection it passes. What could be wrong?22:17
foxbuntuwild_oscar, look at PCM in there is the volume level all the way up or down?22:17
Bojer:-)22:17
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: Im not sure what the backend is. Its pretty current.22:17
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: half way through22:17
wild_oscar70%22:17
foxbuntuBojer, sounds like you didn't enable the MySQL service, I also suggest setting a Static IP on the master backend22:18
Bojernmap shows: 3306/tcp open  mysql22:18
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: README says 0.2122:19
foxbuntuTelnetManta, you need to make sure the BE and FE are the same generation of software 0.21 will NOT work with 0.20.222:19
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: Confirmed, my backend is .2122:19
foxbuntuBojer, it will show that but there are default locks in MySQL for security22:19
foxbuntuTelnetManta, is the FE 0.21 also?22:19
foxbuntuwild_oscar, ok...that sounds normal level22:20
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: Its mythbuntu from http://mythbuntu.org/download/getmythbuntu.php22:20
Cackettelaga22:20
Cacketteyou around?22:20
foxbuntuTelnetManta, all on the same machine?22:20
TelnetMantano22:20
Bojerfoxbuntu: how do i check if it is enabled?22:21
foxbuntuBojer, open MCC and under services > MySQL Service, make sure it is set to Enabled22:21
TelnetMantaI have my backend configured to allow remote FS's and use mythtv on windows already.22:21
foxbuntuTelnetManta, your FE is seperate but all from the 8.04 Beta or Alpha 4 disks?22:22
TelnetMantaI got the mythbuntu metapackage from http://mythbuntu.org/download/getmythbuntu.php22:22
foxbuntuwild_oscar, have you tried pass through or extra audio buffering in the FE settings?22:22
TelnetMantamaybe I just need to build mythtv from source like on my BE.22:22
foxbuntuTelnetManta, no22:23
foxbuntuTelnetManta, we use the same thing22:23
foxbuntuwell...when you say you built from source, are you using the trunk?22:23
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: I had .20 on this workstation a while back. I wonder if some of its files are conflicting?22:23
TelnetMantayes, trunk22:23
wild_oscarI tried changing the passtrhough, but it didn't work so i changed it back to default22:24
foxbuntuTelnetManta, thats your issue22:24
Bojerfoxbuntu: it is enabled22:24
foxbuntueverything has to match22:24
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: Which? trunk?22:24
TelnetMantaor the old .20 install22:24
foxbuntuthe trunk on the BE and downloading the live version from us22:24
TelnetMantaok, so mythbuntu isnt compatible with trunk.22:25
Bojerfoxbuntu: and i am using ip adresses and not dns names22:25
TelnetMantagood to know :0)22:25
foxbuntuTelnetManta, you can switch ours to trunk however22:25
foxbuntuTelnetManta, check out the Weekly builds on our site22:26
foxbuntuBojer, thats ok22:26
TelnetMantaI really like the control center. but I don't mind building from source.22:26
foxbuntuTelnetManta, MCC can work with any version of MythTV and Ubuntu currently out22:26
foxbuntuwell I should say Gutsy and Hardy22:27
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: Sweet!22:27
Bojeri tried googling the error but all the replayes i get seems to be related to the database beeing corupt, but sins my 1st machine can connect that can't be the problem22:28
foxbuntuBojer, pastebin the logs from the Frontend22:28
TelnetMantafoxbuntu: I'll try to figure out how to switch it to Trunk then22:28
foxbuntuTelnetManta, I suggest the weekly builds PPA we support22:28
foxbuntuthat is trunk22:28
foxbuntubut it requires Hardy now22:29
TelnetMantabummer22:29
foxbuntuHardy is fairly stable at this stage22:29
foxbuntuI am using it on most of my live boxes at this point22:29
* foxbuntu is about the last on the project dev team to switch :)22:30
pdragonhehe22:30
pdragonany idea on the generic kernel not finding the hard drive?22:30
Bojerfoxbuntu: where is the log located22:30
pdragoncan't seem to find anything myself22:30
foxbuntuBojer, /var/log/mythtv22:31
foxbuntuBojer, also pastebin any other errors you are seeing22:31
foxbuntupdragon, I seem to remember a bug filled about something like that, which kernel are you using (Hardy/Gusty)22:31
pdragonhardy. i upgraded to the mythbuntu beta and this started22:32
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: any other idea why the sound is so bad?22:32
foxbuntupdragon, yeah I think its in the newest kernel22:32
Bojerfoxbuntu: that would be my guess as well but there is no log there22:32
foxbuntuwild_oscar, did you switch those settings in the frontend (im sorry if i missed you saying it)22:33
Bojerand the only error i am getting is the one mentioned above22:33
foxbuntuBojer, strange22:33
Bojeryes i deed22:33
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: I tried changing the passtrhough, but it didn't work so i changed it back to default22:33
Bojeryes in deed22:33
foxbuntuwild_oscar, I meant to set the internal controls to off22:34
foxbuntuno the audio level, the actual controls22:34
foxbuntuBojer, is the FE and BE on the same machine?22:34
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: I don't even know how to do that...22:35
Bojerfoxbuntu: i am trying on the FE22:35
Bojerfoxbuntu: i just started the frontend form a terminal and i get22:35
Bojer2008-03-23 23:34:13.744 Connecting to backend server: 127.0.0.1:6543 (try 1 of 5)22:35
foxbuntuBojer, is the backend on the same machine?22:36
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: inside the FE I don't have any option to set the internal controls to off22:36
Bojerfoxbuntu: no but i configured the FE to connect to 192.168.0.722:36
foxbuntuwild_oscar, in the same spot you change the audio device in the frontend, there is an option to turn off internal controls22:36
foxbuntuBojer, in mythtv-setup or mythfrontend?22:37
Bojerfoxbuntu: mythfrontend22:38
Bojerfoxbuntu: do you have to set the server address anyware else then in the database setup?22:38
foxbuntuBojer, yes, when you have a remote IP you have to change it in mythtv-setup as well22:41
foxbuntuon the first page under general22:41
foxbuntutheir are two IP fields make both of them the same22:41
foxbuntudefault is loop back (127.0.0.1) and you will need to change them to the one you set in the FE22:41
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: I disabled it, but the sound still isn't good22:42
foxbuntuwild_oscar, are you trying the same recording each time?22:42
pdragonfoxbuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/18828722:42
pdragonis that the bug you mean?22:42
pdragonmy problem is related but i'm having a different resulting issue22:42
pdragoni posted it there22:42
pdragonit won't boot the generic kernel, but does boot the 386 one that's not supposed to be there22:43
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: no, I'm comparing live tv between mythtv and tvtime22:43
foxbuntupdragon, I dont think so, but I might just be wildly confused22:43
pdragonhehe ok22:44
foxbuntu( I have been looking at bugs for 2 days)22:44
foxbuntuwild_oscar, what type of tuner are you using?22:44
Bojerfoxbuntu: thanks a lot for the help, i am realy embaressed i should lern to read some day22:46
foxbuntupdragon, I would check back later tonight or sometime tomorrow night and try to catch up with superm1 as he is our ninja of the kernel22:47
Bojerfoxbuntu: sorry for taking you time it works now22:47
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: analog V4L capture card22:47
pdragonok22:47
foxbuntuBojer, np, its what we are here for22:47
wild_oscarknc one tv-station rds / typho22:47
foxbuntuwild_oscar, pastebin your dmesg22:47
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: http://pastebin.com/d3efe20fc22:51
Cackettelaga22:52
Cacketteyou around?22:52
foxbuntuCackette, hes not here22:53
foxbuntuwild_oscar, that a USB tuner?22:54
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: no22:55
wild_oscarthe usb video stuff is from a webcam22:55
foxbuntuwild_oscar, have you made sure in mythtv-setup that its not confusing the webcam and the tuner? I have heard of it doing that with webcams involved22:56
foxbuntu...or perhaps un-plug the webcam for testing22:56
foxbuntuwild_oscar, I gtg for a bit, be back later, however I think tgm4883_laptop is around again23:01
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: I unplugged the webcam23:05
wild_oscarbut it looks as if it's the same23:05
wild_oscarafter some weird static sounds23:05
foxbuntuwild_oscar, try this for me, record something in mythtv, and try playing the recording back in myth and in VLC23:40
lime4x4will this work for using 2 folders for videos if i add this line in the mythtv setup  /var/lib/mythtv/videos:/media/sdb1/videos123:40
foxbuntulime4x4, are you using mythtv 0.21?23:41
lime4x4yes on hardy23:41
foxbuntulime just create storage groups in mythtv setup23:41
lime4x4ok23:42
wild_oscarfoxbuntu: how do I quickly record something?23:50
superm1i'm no ninja23:50
superm1i dont know what you are saying.23:50
superm1i dropped out of 'karate' when i was like 823:50
pdragonhey sup23:54
pdragonupgraded to the beta and now my system won't boot with the generic kernel23:54
pdragonboots with the 386 that is apparently an accidental install, but sound and tuner don't work with it of course23:55
superm1pdragon, run update-initramfs -u23:56
superm1and then try to boot into the generic again23:56
