[21:47] well, the revert dialog is nearly done but needs more testing before it's ready for upgrade [21:47] I haven't looked at the new xrandr gui patches from upstream yet [21:47] ok [21:47] let me now when the revert dialog is ready for testing, I'll give it a run [21:48] xrandr 1.2 rotation sucks on my ati card [21:48] yesterday I tested the dialog exhaustively on 10 different hardware systems [21:48] ah, how did it go? [21:48] I haven't posted the results yet, but found a bunch of bugs (no major show stoppers for the dialogs, but a lot of stuff needing fixed in the drivers [21:49] it looks like the only serious condition is trying to use rotation on -radeon, which causes lockups [21:49] ok, not too bad then [21:50] I wonder if we could even just disable xrandr rotation on -radeon, like with -nv [21:50] of course, then no one would get to make use of my dialog! [21:51] well, rotations is not what people are looking at usually [21:52] resolution changing pretty much works about 90%, with the 10% failures being modest issues, no crashes or lockups just weird looking screens [21:52] and generally re-applying a different resolution brought things back in those cases [23:14] bryce: hey, I'll probably merge xorg-server when it's uploaded in debian. there are a couple of upstream fixes from the stable branch, and would drop some of the patches we are carrying. also, we probably should check out the modesetting rework that ajax did a month ago [23:18] tjaalton: are you certain that's safe enough? It's getting a bit late in the cycle.... [23:18] bryce: the merge or the modesetting stuff? [23:19] modesetting [23:20] no idea, but there are cases where the server fails to get ddc data when it used to work with xresprobe et al [23:20] so that _might_ help there [23:20] hmm [23:21] tjaalton: i don't think it will help with ddc [23:21] aiui it just changes the logic to pick a mode after that [23:22] ah.. well even if we leave that out, there are some commits in master/1.5 from the intel guys [23:22] I guess I'm a bit burnt by how many times upstream moves to new tech, which causes regressions in older configs [23:22] that were also proposed for 1.4.1 but no-one took them [23:23] heh [23:23] if we had an extra month of testing I'd probably be less concerned [23:25] maybe I need to get a list of bugs where the modesetting fails, they are scattered through all the drivers currently [23:25] yeah [23:38] gah, late.. night
