Muhammad_Saad | Hello, I need a screen magnifier. Which application should I install? | 07:07 |
LaserJock | I believe there is a default app installed for that | 07:08 |
kgoetz | gnome ships with one (so i assume edubuntu does too) | 07:08 |
Muhammad_Saad | which one? | 07:08 |
LaserJock | Muhammad_Saad: you might have to edit the menu for it to show up | 07:08 |
Muhammad_Saad | what command? | 07:08 |
LaserJock | perhaps orca? | 07:08 |
* kgoetz should boot up the edubuntu lappy and find out, but you can probably do without | 07:09
Muhammad_Saad | I have found it. | 07:10 |
Muhammad_Saad | What does "Enable echo by word" mean? | 07:12 |

generalsnus | heyas guys | 15:50 |
generalsnus | ok, i could use a little input here.. we have about 30 thin clients and 2 thin client servers and a file/LDAP server(profiles) ...today we use "Skolelinux" but we where planning to change to edubuntu ..but we also want to have about 20 workstations, that should authenticate agains a ldap server.. is this possible with the use of edubuntu? we could also use our 2k3 server for authentication..if thats possible | 15:59 |
RichEd | generalsnus: i think that's possible ... an accurate answer would come from highvoltage, ogra_cmpc, kgoetz | 16:04 |
RichEd | or else across in #ltsp ... which is the core LTSP we bundle | 16:04 |
RichEd | generalsnus: check this out ? | 16:07 |

jsgotangco | RichEd: hello :) | 16:30 |
RichEd | hey jsgotangco :) | 16:31 |
jsgotangco | what's keeping you busy lately | 16:32 |
musashi | i have a feisty thin-client lab set up. students auth against AD. occasionally, a student has trouble. they can log in but nothing happens - blank screen or the computer acts frozen. sometimes they get a message like "firefox cannot be started because it is already running". logging in to the server and running top i usually can't see anything suggesting a problem. is there a better way to... | 17:37 |
musashi | ...see why this might be happening? | 17:37 |
generalsnus | musashi: | 17:42 |
musashi | yes? | 17:42 |
generalsnus | id like to know how you got AD auth to work :9 | 17:42 |
musashi | ah, that was a bit of trick and i had a lot of help | 17:43 |
generalsnus | struggeling with that now :/ | 17:43 |
musashi | there was a "how to" that we ended up mostly following. | 17:43 |
musashi | if you give me an email i can find it (might need to contact my helper" and send it to you. | 17:43 |
generalsnus | sure | 17:44 |
generalsnus | got it? | 17:45 |
musashi | oh, yeah, i see it. i'm email the guy who helped me and cc-ing you. | 17:46 |
generalsnus | kk | 17:46 |
generalsnus | got a plan to use 2k3 auth here.. with thin clients and edubuntu workstations | 17:47 |
musashi | okay, checks in the mail. he is often busy so it may be a couple days before we hear back - or not, you never know. | 17:49 |
musashi | any idea how i can figure out what's causing some users to freeze? is there a better tool than top to see running processes - especially if i can grep for the user in question or something. | 17:50 |
musashi | ps aux | grep <username> wasn't much help | 17:51 |
generalsnus | hmm | 17:52 |
* generalsnus is googleing as crazy | 17:55
musashi | despite the fact that a user was logged in but the system wasn't responding, ps aux didn't show anything for that user. that's why i'm wondering about a better option or if using AD gets in the way of this. "users" "who" etc only returns me and none of the other logged in users. | 17:56 |
