[02:02] Has anybody's flash player broken in firefox with the most recent update (nonfree)? [02:02] hello [02:03] my compliler isnt working :\ [02:05] pc-illiterate, $ mount /cdrom [02:06] patoel have you install build-essential? [02:06] how do i do that? [02:06] sudo apt-get install build-essential [02:06] it contains most of the stuff that is commonly required to compile code in ubuntu [02:07] not working [02:07] Greetings. [02:08] its asking for a cd [02:08] yes === kid is now known as Devine [02:08] i changed install path...that matter ? didnt think so [02:09] I have a strange problem - I can ping everything (via ethernet) but I cannot get on the net or use repositories. [02:10] Devine, DNS (?) [02:10] na, works fine. [02:10] open synaptic and go to system->Synaptic then on the menu click settings-> repositories-ubuntu software and uncheck the cd option [02:11] I get an IP by DHCP [02:20] anybody know how to get roxen4 to shut down, i tried removing packages, and /etc/init.d/roxen4 STOPping it [02:21] er stopPING [02:22] killall roxen4 ? [03:05] hey guys, does anybody yet have any experience with the Magento Commerce suite? [03:26] oem: go to #magento [03:26] or #ubuntu-offtopic #linux [03:26] Hi, I am using an updated version of Xubuntu and I notice that even though Xubuntu is very proc-efficient my 1GHz proc is almost constantly pushed to the max by Firefox. Is this normal?! [03:27] gNewPower nope [03:27] i would install swiftfox, it's the new (faster) firefox3 optimized for your cpu arch [03:28] http://getswiftfox.com/deb.htm [03:28] Stroganoff: I have 512MB of RAM and they are never used fully, But the proc is really running at 90-100% when I browse. Can you think of a reason? [03:28] gNewPower you have checked with xfce task manager that firefox uses these resouces? [03:28] are any plugins running, flash for example? [03:28] firefox should not take any cpu% if not loading websites or playing animations [03:29] Stroganoff: I used the XFCE4 applet which shows how much proc power is used [03:29] gNewPower: alt+f2 -> xfce4-taskmanager [03:29] Stroganoff: websites which pull lots of power are gmail and sites with Youtube videos [03:30] Stroganoff:once they are fully loaded (1-2min) the stuff clams down [03:30] i think firefox2 on linux has some kind of javascript bug [03:30] I meant "calms down" [03:30] try swiftfox: http://getswiftfox.com/deb.htm [03:31] ok, I will. [03:31] it's firefox3 [03:31] why "stroganoff"? You like beef or are you Russian? [03:31] neither [03:31] oh, ok. [03:31] http://www.dragnet.de/telesound/images/fhollaender.jpg [03:32] how is the smoking guy? [03:32] I meant who [03:33] Friedrich Hollaender [03:33] we will have to continue this another time, I need to run, sorry. many thanks and have a great evening! [06:55] Howdy [07:07] So I tried to install linux twice unsuccessfully: once off of a ubuntu factory-supplied disk and a home-burnt xubuntu disk. [07:07] Both times when I tried selecting "Start or Install", "Start in safe graphics mode", or "Check CD Integrity", it directed me to a prompt-like program called busybox [07:07] where after a short pause, it spat out the following lines: [07:07] exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen [07:07] cmd c8/00:08:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/e0 tag 0 cdb 0x0 data 4096 in [07:07] (those last two repeated three times) [07:07] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [07:07] (repeated once) [07:45] the beta installer hangs in the partitioner screen. Actually the partitioner doesnt open up [08:12] it happens to me once [08:13] if it is beta, wait for the release =P [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:00] #&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&%#&% [WwW.About.W33d.Net RulezZz] W33D :) [09:14] :/ [09:21] i installed xubuntu beta successfully [09:22] sadly, my resolution doesnt go beyond 1024 * 768 even with nvidia drivers installed === Mattz is now known as matboy === matboy is now known as MatBoy [11:21] Complete n00b to any linux distro here, i was hoping to get some help on accessing my HDD partitions === henzo is now known as Nique666 [11:47] Complete n00b to any linux distro here, i was hoping to get some help on accessing my HDD partitions [11:52] !partitions [11:52] Partitioning programs: !GParted or QTParted (also "man mkfs" for formatting) - Mounting partitions in !GNOME under !Dapper: System -> Administration -> Disks - For !Edgy and later, see !fstab and !DiskMounter [12:01] !DiskMounter [12:01] To view your Windows/Mac partitions see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutomaticallyMountPartitions - For write access, see /msg ubotu NTFS-3g or /msg ubotu FUSE [12:02] !fstab [12:02] The /etc/fstab file indicates how drive partitions are to be used or otherwise integrated into the file system. I've tried 'noacpi', 'pci=noacpi', and 'acpi=off' to no avail. [23:48] Snakeyes: there is another option. If you use the beta of the new verxion hardy, you can use the wubi installer [23:48] Burn the cd, put in in and windows will run the wubi installer. [23:48] it will make a giant file on your windows partion, 10gig or larger even. [23:48] then it will set the winodws boot menu to give you the option of XP or xubuntu [23:49] Or, you can just google wubi [23:49] download it [23:49] and run it. [23:49] it will let you donwload the files you need to do the install. I can't install because it just keeps rebooting on kernel run (memtest works) [23:52] SubOne: It has to do with some option the way the kernel is compiled. Some other distro make work better for you.
