Kodiak`weeks01:39
hti_prohave you tried accessing it using \\hostname\sharenam in windows explorer01:40
Kodiak`i rebooted because i'm trying to find the loudest part of the mythbox so i can eventually replace it later, so nothing should have changed01:40
Kodiak`\\Htpc\videos is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The network path was not found.01:41

Kodiak`alright, we're good01:49
Kodiak`is there any way to get it to do that every start?01:50
hti_proit should do that at every start.   try dmesg | grep mbd01:50
hti_promaybe something odd happened this time01:50
Kodiak`nothing happens if i type that01:50
hti_protry grep mbd /var/log/syslog01:51

Raspberryi'm having an issue with mythtv not taking focus... running on Hardy10:21
Raspberryno title bar on myth10:22
Raspberrybut I can see background to the left and right... and the panel in xfce on top10:22
sebrockcan I add a suggestion to this project?10:59
sebrockproblem is the lirc-generator. It should include the latest from lirc-CVS. A lot of us have the iMON LCD which is inlcuded in CVS. And making a custom deb for this only takes time...11:02
sebrockhttp://lirc.cvs.sourceforge.net/lirc/lirc/drivers/lirc_imon/lirc_imon.c?view=log11:05
Raspberrywhat about requesting a package update from the lirc maintainer?11:06
RaspberryI build my lirc modules from source11:06
sebrockI would gladly, but how?11:06
Raspberryglady what?11:06
Raspberrycontact the maintainer or build from source?11:07
sebrockRaspberry: I tried it but it did not work as I expected with the mythbuntu-lirc-generator11:07
sebrockwell both then :)11:07
RaspberryI just did it today11:07
Raspberryand it worked11:07
Raspberryare you using module assisstant?11:07
sebrockRaspberry: did you do a deb?11:07
Raspberryyes11:07
sebrockthe "right" way? can I have it?11:07
sebrockif you used the CVS that is11:08
Raspberryhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_lirc_install11:08
sebrockand you used this with mythbuntu?11:08
Raspberryyes11:08
sebrockwell I followed http://codeka.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2211:09
sebrocksort of11:09
sebrockbut that doesnt work as doing the first step will remove mythbuntu stuff11:10
sebrockif you have a deb can you send it to me?11:10
sebrockRaspberry: or how do I contact the maintainer?=11:15
Raspberrylook up the package on launchpad.net11:16
Raspberrythen contact the maintainer11:16
sebrockI try but cant find the maintianer anywhere11:18
sebrockah found it11:19
Raspberryugh11:31
Raspberrymy myth account just hangs on login11:31
Raspberryif I restart the machine sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't11:31
Raspberryif I restart X same thing11:31
RaspberryI'm going to change to  a gnome sesions11:32
Raspberrysee if that fixes it11:32
sebrockRaspberry: you using Mythbuntu beta?11:33
sebrockand did you install the VNC-server?11:34
sebrockfrom what I know there is a rather nasty bug in the installation process that causes all kinds of nasty bugs11:34
RaspberryI migrated11:35
Raspberryfrom gutsy to hardy11:35
Raspberryrunning the beta11:35
Raspberrythe vnc bug has been fixed11:35
sebrockok, I havnt had time to use the beta yet11:35
Raspberryit doesn't matter which session I run -- myth won't fullscreen11:35
Raspberryvisual effects are set to NONE11:36
MeerkatMafiahi can i run ubuntu mythtv from livecd without installing?11:36
sebrockI'm going to check up on my lagging IR device... as soon as I press a button when somethng else is running there is a glitch... like a small break11:36
sebrockbut it doesnt seem to be any IRQ issues... I dont know11:36
sebrockMeerkatMafia: yes11:37
MeerkatMafiasebrock, great and this allows me to capture to a device too? or just watch tv11:37
sebrockWatch tv should be fine I guess... assuming that all devices are OK11:38
MeerkatMafiaty11:38
sebrockI dont know how this works when using only RAM though11:38
MeerkatMafiawould it be possible to load mythtv all into ram11:38
sebrockI suggest installing it anyway... its painfully slow to run from CD all the time11:39
sebrockMeerkatMafia: that is what happens when you use LiveCD11:39
MeerkatMafiak11:39
MeerkatMafiaty11:39
MeerkatMafiasebrock, but when i use knoppix and some livecds they decompress on the fly11:39
MeerkatMafiasebrock, rather than loading everything into ram11:39
sebrockoh you mean loading everything from start?11:39
MeerkatMafiasebrock, so i didnt know how ubuntu mythtv worked in comparison11:39
MeerkatMafiaknoppix livedvd i mean11:40
sebrockI think this works the same way, loading on the fly11:40
MeerkatMafiai would like to boot from cd and load it all into ram11:40
MeerkatMafiaoh ok thanks some livecds work different i suppose11:40
Raspberrywow11:42

MythbuntuGuest59Hello. I've got a new intel motherboard (dp35dp), two 500 GB SATA drives and an ATI RADEON 7000 video14:46
MythbuntuGuest59card14:47
a1fawhats your question?14:48
MythbuntuGuest59My problem is I am getting "grub installation failed" with the alternate-amd 8.04 -- sorry, not an IRC pro at all.14:48
MythbuntuGuest59Is there a general cause for not being able to write to the MBR master boot record?14:49
MythbuntuGuest59These are new disks and I have not prepared them in any way.14:50
MythbuntuGuest59I then tried to install the "desktop" -- non-alternate version of Hardy and14:51
MythbuntuGuest59it brings up the initial selection menu, but when I select the first option, run the live disk, it will appear to be booting and then at then end when it14:52
MythbuntuGuest59would seem to be finished and ready to change modes --video modes perhaps, I just get a "no signal" on my monitor.14:54
MythbuntuGuest59That's all I have to offer up. I have not been verifying checksums on these iso's so that's my next step.14:56
MythbuntuGuest59The iso's I've been getting from direct download are not passing the checksum test, and the torrents are taking forever.15:02
MythbuntuGuest59I'll report back when I get a good installer!15:02

Karger1978i used the drive to install the system so i know the drive works15:52
DaveMorriscan you pastebin the output of   dmesg | grep DMA  please15:53
DaveMorris!pastebin15:53
ubotupastebin is a service to post multiple-lined texts so you don't flood the channel. The Ubuntu pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org (make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic)15:53
Karger1978i don't get any results15:53
Karger1978when i do a  dmesg | grep DMA15:54
DaveMorrishmmm15:55
Karger1978yeah...15:56
DaveMorrisas root can you try hdparm -d /dev/hda15:56
DaveMorristhat command toggles DMA on/off.  You can check by looking in the man file.  man hdparm15:56

DaveMorrisI always eject using the button :)15:58
Karger1978let me check15:58
Karger1978humm, that message now stopped15:59
DaveMorrisis it working as expected now then?16:00

DaveMorrisI've seen similar looking errors with my old CD-ROM drives and I assumed they where hardware failures since they went away with a different drive.  I had loads of old drives so I just threw them away rather than working out where the actual fault was.16:02
Karger1978humm....16:03
DaveMorrishave you got another Ubuntu based box you could try the drive in?16:03
Karger1978it's odd, it's possible that this drive is faling16:03
DaveMorrisif you get the same errors in a different box with the drive I'd assume the drive is failing.16:03
Karger1978yeah, i don't have an ide card, but I do have a PCI Sata card, I guess I could install that and then hook my sats dvd drive to it and see what happens16:03
Karger1978sorry another ide dvd drive16:04
DaveMorrisyou got another PC you could try the ide based drive in?16:04
Karger1978yeah, its a windows box though16:04
DaveMorris!ohmy ;)16:05
ubotuSorry, I don't know anything about ohmy ;) - try searching on http://ubotu.ubuntu-nl.org/factoids.cgi16:05
Karger1978i mean it's worth a shot16:05
DaveMorrisyeah, or try a live cd in the drive in the windows box16:05
Karger1978wife still likes windows, so it will be a good test16:06
Karger1978command line is not her thing16:06
Karger1978Thanks for the help, i will give that a shot!16:06
DaveMorrismy g/f uses Ubuntu after using Windows.  She won't touch the command line and gets on fine with it.  After the 1st couple of weeks of "I knew how to do this on Windows"16:07
Karger1978lol16:07
DaveMorrisjust install the windows vista theme and tell her it's vista ;)16:08
Karger1978hello16:27
Karger1978Well i swapped drives, now how do i mount the new dvd/cdrom drive16:28
MythbuntuGuest79Hi. Can anybody help with aspect ratio on mythbuntu 8.04?16:33
ahavehello room, could someone help me with my setup? I have all of a sudden lost the ability to play mpeg files.. all i get is a full screen of yellow/red noise, yet the 'preview box' appears to be properly showing the video16:51
ahavecan someone explain this error: Connected to database 'mythconverg' at host: localhost17:51
ahaveis defined, but isn't attached to a cardinput.17:51
TelnetMantaahave: have you ran mythtv-setup?18:06
TelnetMantayou have to configure your capture cards and inputs before running the frontend18:07
ahaveTelnetManta, yes. i have had mythtv working for a few weeks now. it all of a sudden did this18:07
ahaveperhaps the error is with VLC? I found the livetv recordings and played them with VLC and the video is still scrambled, yet the audio is there18:08
ahavethe preview box in Media Library will show the video correctly18:08
ahavehmm, a simple restart fixed the problem18:09
lagare18:13
lagaRaspberry: hey. have you tried running mythfrontend --reset? thaT'll reset all aperance settings in the frontend18:14
Raspberryno18:22
RaspberryI can try that18:22
Raspberrywe worked on it for like 4hrs in here yesterday and nobody mentioned that :p18:22
Raspberrydo I have to close the frontend before running that?18:23
Raspberryor can I run it and then restart the frontend18:23
Raspberryvnc is really really flakey in hardy right now :)18:24
superm1well with the new guidance, it should be fine18:25
Raspberryit crashes quite a bit18:25
Raspberrywith the new guidance18:25
Raspberrymoving the mouse of mythtv usually crashes18:25
superm1well i mean once you reconfigure it18:25
superm1it will disable libvnc4server18:25
Raspberrythe popup / logoff menus crash :D18:26
superm1and use x11vnc instead18:26
Raspberryah18:26
Raspberrywell I'll reconfigure it again rightnow18:26
superm1(that's what you have to do)18:26
Raspberrywhen I ran the mythfrontend --reset18:26
Raspberryusing SSH why did it detect my settings from the remote laptop instead of the local X settings :)18:26
RaspberryI'll have to run it again w/o -X on my ssh line18:26
Raspberryhmm18:27
Raspberrywithout ssh -X  ... I can't run it remotely18:27
Raspberrycan't connect to display18:27
Raspberry:)18:27
Raspberrymythfrontend --reset18:28
superm1reconfigure vnc and do it via vnc18:28
RaspberryI don't want to sound like an idiot by explaining all this stuff -- if it's not helpful to explain what I'm doing -- let me know and I'll quit :)18:29
Raspberryand what I'm finding18:29
Raspberryyay it makes it past reconfiguring now18:30
Raspberryit's not crashing ... so far :)18:31
Raspberryah... much nicer -- not crashing every 5 sec :)18:32
Raspberrywhere's the mythbuntu desktop image located?18:34
Raspberrynvrmind found it /usr/share/mythbuntu18:34
Raspberryit's still not full screening it after running a reset18:34
Raspberrywhen I check the box to install just mythtv-frontend (on another workstation) it wants to install and configure the backend on THAT workstation18:44
superm1huh?18:51
superm1over ssh?18:51
Raspberry?19:07
Raspberrymodule assistant isn't availabe in hardy?19:09
Raspberrythen how am i running it?19:09
RaspberryI just checked my fresh hardy install -- it's on there too19:10
Raspberryhttp://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/module-assistant19:11
hti_prohey Raspberry flood much19:15
Raspberryi don't know, do I?19:15
hti_projust givin you crap, I just looked at the window and its mostly you19:15
RaspberryI like to have conversations on IRC -- otherwise I'd just file bug reports :p19:16
hti_pro:)19:16
hti_prothats what keeps things interesting19:16
Raspberryhti you had a question and I went to respond to you about 9 hrs ago and you'd gone offline19:16
RaspberryI don't remember what your question was though19:16
superm1module assistant isn't used for lirc19:17
superm1it used to be19:17
superm1now dkms is used19:17
lagaRaspberry: re mythfrontend --reset: close the frontend, run mythfrontend --reset19:17
Raspberrylaga: did that19:17
Raspberrysuperm1: lirc is still listed in MA19:17
Raspberryand it downloaded the correct lirc-module-source19:18
lagaRaspberry: oh.19:18
lagaRaspberry: so it's still broken with a different theme?19:18
superm1Raspberry, it shouldn't be...19:18
Raspberryit is -- as of yesterday19:18
superm1dkms automatically will build the modules though19:18
superm1so i'm not sure how that's possible19:18
superm1m-a wants the a special structure19:18
superm1that isn't in place19:18
hti_proRaspberry: i don't remember either19:18
RaspberryI seem to do the impossible19:19
superm1well whatever the case may be19:19
superm1dont use it19:19
Raspberrylaga: yeah with the G.A.N.T theme19:19
Raspberrysuperm1: already did ;)19:19
lagaRaspberry: can you attach the output of "xdpyinfo" and /var/log/Xorg.0.log to that ticket?19:19
hti_proI have noticed a considerable performance increase by using the Blue theme as opposed to the G.A.N.T.19:19
Raspberrylaga: ok19:20
hti_proused to take like 10 seconds between menu screens, now it is almost instant19:20
RaspberryI used to use the blue theme then I switched to the titivi... whatever ... because it was much more readable and clear on my 4:3 analog tv19:20
Raspberryblue fonts were too small and not bold enough even when set to big19:21
superm1yuck i think both of those themes are really tacky for a tv :)19:21
MythbuntuGuest59Hello! This is my first myth install with new hardware. I've got an intel q6600 cpu and I'm attempting, to put 8.04Beta desktop amd64 (checksum OK) on with the following error:19:21
MythbuntuGuest59Busybox...(initramfs)19:22
Raspberrysuperm1: i'm trying the standard theme now ... the new black one... but the g/f will be the ultimate judge when she gets home from college next week19:23
MythbuntuGuest59I've looked around and seen different causes from grub install fail to video card probs.19:23
lagaMythbuntuGuest59: hum. well. open a bug report :)19:23
lagaMythbuntuGuest59: if you want, you can try the alternate disk19:23
Raspberryis the theme change that happened yesterday a change from red highlight buttons to blue highlight buttons on the new standard theme?19:23
lagaMythbuntuGuest59: but it's not clear if the alternate disk works :) i'm going to try it later19:24
superm1Raspberry, yeah19:25
MythbuntuGuest59Laga: I've tried the alternate iso and the grub install failed. I have not seen a way around this..some19:25
lagaMythbuntuGuest59: what alternate disk? mythbuntu or ubuntu?19:25
MythbuntuGuest59some thing to add to the install parameter19:25
MythbuntuGuest59laga: mythbuntu alternate.19:25
hti_proi only have G.A.N.T. and Blue themes right now, I am gonna download all the themes and make my decision later19:26
hti_prohas anyone else had a prob with the G.A.N.T. theme being slow19:26
hti_proI don't understand why the theme should slow it down though19:27
Raspberrylaga: logs have been added19:27
lagaMythbuntuGuest59: maybe the ubuntu alternate disks works better for you. you can then visit www.mythbuntu.org and install mythbuntu on top of tjat19:28
lagaRaspberry: thanks19:28
MythbuntuGuest59laga: will try ubuntu install. thanks.19:28
hti_prohey guys im getting a php error when restarting apache2 with mythweb, what are the php requirements for mythweb19:31
ahavedoes anyone know where i can pickup a s/pdif optical bracket? everything i find is out of stock19:33
lagahti_pro: how did you install it?19:37
hti_prowith apt-get19:37
lagahti_pro: on hardy?19:38
hti_proyep19:38
hti_pro:(19:38
lagahti_pro: what's the php error?19:38
hti_proSyntax error on line 106 of /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/mythweb.conf: Invalid command 'php_value', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration19:39
hti_prowait i dont think php mod is enabled19:39
hti_proalright, that was it19:41
ahavewhere can i find mythvideo settings?19:45
DaveMorriswhen watching liveTV on my frontends, I can watch it, change the channel once, but if I leave it a few mins myth doesn't respond to any keyboard/remote presses (gnome does though such as Alt + F4)  Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm using mythtv packages on Ubuntu Hardy rather than mythbuntu.20:02
hugolpDaveMorris:  it has happen to me a couple of times since I updated to .2120:13
DaveMorrisahave the settings are under:20:14
DaveMorrisUtilities/ Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Video Settings20:14
DaveMorrishugolp: have you worked out whats causing it or filled a bug on it?20:14
ahaveDaveMorris, thanks.20:14
hugolpno20:14
hugolpDaveMorris:  no20:14
DaveMorrisIt happens every time for me :(20:14
hugolpbecause I can not reproduce it, it has only happened twice randomly20:14
DaveMorrishugolp: you using Mythbuntu or ubuntu ?20:15
hugolpbut if you fill a bug I will add my coment20:15
hugolpDaveMorris:  Ubuntu20:15
hugolpGutsy20:15
SoulBladei installed mythbuntu 7.1... upgraded to .21... now i want to go back to .20 since .21 screwed me a bit... compiling from source turned into a nightmare so all i want is an easy way to revert back to .20 w/o having to reinstall mythbuntu.  using synaptic it always wants to put me at .21 even if i do a force version20:15
SoulBladeis there a quick way for me to just install this stuff - like some aptitude install command20:16
DaveMorrisSoulBlade: uninstall mythtv20:16
DaveMorristhen disable the backport repo's20:16
DaveMorristhen update apt and install the new packages20:16
hti_proalright, still haven probs with mythweb20:16
hti_prothis time i get to the page but it says DB access denied20:16
DaveMorrisdo you need more detailed instructions that or do you know how to do it?20:16
SoulBladenew packages... that doesnt mean .21 right? i want .2020:17
hugolpSoulBlade:  yes20:17
SoulBladei think i can uninstall it no problem.. not sure how to disable the backport repo and update apt20:17
SoulBladeassuming i can uninstall it through synaptic then i dont have a problem :)20:17
hugolpif you uninstall mythtv and then remove the backport repositories, the .21 packages wont be accesible to your computer, so it will install .2020:17
SoulBladeother than the obvious20:17
SoulBladeah ok20:17
hti_proI have checked the /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/mythweb.conf and all credentials are appropriate20:17
hti_proalso mod_env is enabled20:18
hugolpSoulBlade:  and I do agree that .21 has some flaws. I shouldnt have updated. I down downgrade becuase Im lazy20:18
hugolp*dont20:18
hti_prodo i need to restart mythbackend20:18
DaveMorrishti_pro: sounds as if you've got the wrong credtials for your mysql database20:18
SoulBladehehe i have to downgrade because .21 broke nvidia-legacy support and compiling the fixes branch caused even more problems for me20:18
hti_proDaveMorris:  no they are correct20:18
lagaSoulBlade: nvidia-legacy is fixed in hardy20:18
DaveMorrisis mythweb running on a machine which is allowed to connect to the databased?20:19
DaveMorriseg a backend or frontend20:19
SoulBladelaga - so you recommend i install 8.04?20:19
hti_proDaveMorris: yes it is on the backend.  Originally the password was incorrect and I changed it, now it still dont work20:19
* DaveMorris backscrolls20:20
lagaSoulBlade: not necessarily, but i was just sayin'.. ;)20:20
SoulBladeah fair enough20:20
SoulBlademaybe one day if i get bored20:20
SoulBladeand have more patience20:20
lagaSoulBlade: ua backport to gutsy will happen in a few days/weeks, but i guess you cant live without mythtv20:20
lagas/ua/a/20:20
SoulBladei kind of want it right now... ive lived w/ it for a while - finally have a bit of time to fix it20:21
SoulBladeDaveMorris - how do i disable the repos?20:22
hti_prowait, let me clear my cache20:22
SolarbabyI think I could live with out MythTV but I'm not sure I'd want too :)20:22
SoulBladei meant w/o20:23
SoulBladebut yea20:23
hti_pronope still denied access20:23
DaveMorrisSoulBlade: the easist way for me to explain is to use the command line:20:24
DaveMorrissudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list20:24
DaveMorrisfind the lines which have `backport' in them and comment them out with a '#' at the front20:24
DaveMorristhen reload the repo list and install via synaptic20:24
hti_prois libapache2-mod-auth-mysql a required module20:25
SoulBladecool20:25
SoulBladei think i found a way to do it in synaptic too through preferences -> distribution ta20:26
SoulBladetab20:26
DaveMorrisyeah you can do it in there.  However I don't use so I don't know how it's done20:26
SoulBladecommand line is the proper way... im still a newb20:26
DaveMorrisI tend to use the command line only because I'll update all my machines at once generally, so it's easier to log into them all via ssh and do it on the command line20:27
DaveMorrispeople also tend to tell other people how to do stuff on the cli because it's easier than saying click a then b then c and you should see d20:28
SoulBladeah makes sense20:28
superm1i try to guide people through the gui when i write howtos20:28
superm1because people new to linux shouldn't have to use the command line20:28
superm1and it really is inhibiting to assume they want to learn20:29
Solarbabythats why your my hero20:29
DaveMorrissuperm1: yeah I agree with howto's etc, but helping people via IRC ?20:29
hti_proi agree that is a lot of extra traffic20:29
superm1DaveMorris, depends on ther person :)20:29
hti_protrying to make sure they are seeing what they should be20:29
* directhex agrees with superm1, avoids gnome-terminal in all his tutorial articles20:30
Solarbabyanyone have any ruff estimate when a new stable version of ubuntumyth will be available for download?20:31
DaveMorrisSolarbaby: you mean of .21?20:31
SolarbabyI installed the last cd about a year ago20:31
hti_proanyone know where I can look to find out what is going wrong with mythweb20:32
SoulBladesweet... mythtv-backend subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 139...20:32
SoulBladebleh20:32
SolarbabyDaveMorris: I know every year there should be a new version right?20:32
DaveMorrismythtv went to .21 around a month ago20:33
SolarbabyDaveMorris: ok so I missed it.. is it stable?20:33
DaveMorrismythbuntu/ubuntu will produce a new version every 6 months20:33
DaveMorrisit has a few issues etc20:33
SolarbabyDaveMorris: would you recommend it? or are the bugs a little too much to deal with?20:34
DaveMorrishowever no new development is occurring on .20 anymore, not even bug fixes20:34
DaveMorrisPersonally I'd wait a few more weeks for Hardy to be out etc20:34
SolarbabyDaveMorris: that said..  I have my answer20:34
SolarbabyDaveMorris: ahhh Thanks!20:34
ahavei am having trouble with mythvideo, i can not seem to rip a DVD20:36
DaveMorrisSince Hardy is LTS I'm hoping to stick with it for 2 years for my backend so hopefully we'll have some decent support and backports for it :)20:36
ahavewhenever i try to rip an .iso it looks as-if it is attempting to start then brings up a message stating 'no jobsand nothing else to do. You could rip a DVD'20:37
Solarbabysweeeet!20:37
superm1there are a few showstopper bugs right now, but they also affect Ubuntu, so I am under the impression they will be resolved20:37
superm1most of our stuff (mythbuntu value addons) should be stable though20:37
DaveMorrissuperm1: what are they?20:37
superm1DaveMorris, there is a cx88 bug20:37
Solarbabyglad to hear all that20:37
superm1that causes kernel oopsing20:38
a1faf0xy20:38
a1fafoxing screensaver20:38
hti_prois there a log file for mythweb20:38
superm1foxing screensaver?20:38
a1fathe screensaver keeps turning on, even though its off20:38
DaveMorriscx88 bug20:38
a1faactually, video turns off20:38
a1fanot even screensaver20:38
DaveMorrisI'm using the cx88_dvb module fine20:39
superm1DaveMorris, its in cx88-alsa20:40
superm1in 2.6.24-1{5,6}20:40
DaveMorrisah I don't use that20:41
SoulBladewtf20:43
SoulBladeeverytime it tries to start the mythtv server it seg faults and dumps a core20:43
SoulBladeand then it can't do anything because mythtv depends on backend running20:44
DaveMorrisSoulBlade: which version are you running?  What do the logs say?20:45
SoulBladethis is from synaptic's install details: setting up mythtv-backend (0.20.2-ubuntu10)20:45
SoulBladeand then i get hit with a segfault when it says setting up mythtv server20:46
SoulBladeand the rest dies out because backend isn't configured properly20:46
SoulBladeinstalling the mythtv package would install all dependencies as well right?20:47
SoulBladeim wondering if i was stupid and removed some other dependencies when i was debugging the issues i was having w/ .2120:47
DaveMorrisoh20:47
DaveMorristhe dependices prob need to be reverted as well20:48
SoulBladewhat are they20:49
SoulBladeit appears i have the dependencies installed20:52
DaveMorrisyeah but they prob need reinstalling at the previous versions20:52
SoulBladepain20:54
SoulBladei give up - i have some other shit to do20:54
SoulBladeanother few days w/o mythtv20:54
DaveMorrisif you come back in 5 mins I'll hopefully have the list of dependices to reinstall20:54
SoulBladeill idle here20:55
DaveMorrisor you could dist-upgrade to hardy where nvida is fixed20:55
SoulBladeif that does everything for me then im willing to give it a shot20:55
SoulBladebut im never ever upgrading again once my setup is working again :)20:55
DaveMorrishehe20:55
SoulBladei appreciate the help too20:55
DaveMorrisyou need to revet just the backend or both?20:56
SoulBladewell the backend wont startup20:56
SoulBladeso i guess thats the first step20:56
DaveMorrisSoulBlade: sudo apt-get install --reinstall mythtv-backend mythtv-common  mythtv-transcode-utils   libartsc0  libasound2  libavc1394-0   libc6 libfreetype6  libgcc1   libgl1-mesa-glx   libglib2.0-0  libglu1-mesa   libiec61883-0  libjack0  liblame0  libmyth-0.20  libqt3-mt  libraw1394-8 libstdc++6   libx11-6 libxext6 libxinerama1 libxmu6 libxrandr2   libxv1 libxvmc1 libxxf86vm1 cron wget zenity  kdebase-bin gksu  kdebase-bin  msttcore21:01
SoulBladecrazy21:03
DaveMorriswhats it saying, as some other packages might moan their dependice is getting older21:03
directhexefonts21:03
SoulBladelemme see21:04
SoulBladegod i love ssh21:05
SoulBladecouldn't find package msttcore21:06
DaveMorrisjust remove it from the list21:06
DaveMorrisit's only MS fonts anyway and they won't of changed21:06
SoulBladeit didn't complain - seems like its goin21:06
SoulBladeah nevermind21:06
SoulBladecould not perform immediate configuration (2) on libgcc121:07
DaveMorrisagain remove it from the list, as it's already installed and it might not be whats stopping mythbackend21:07
jlongs2hey folks, i'm thinking of building an HTPC, and I think my preferred setup would be ubuntu and mythtv.  I've never setup mythtv before, and (at least at the moment) I don't have any need for recording, I'm just interested in playback over SMB.21:07
jlongs2how feasible would that be with mythtv/mythbuntu?21:08
DaveMorrisjlongs2: you want to be able to share with Window machines then?21:08
jlongs2a mac, actually, but yeah, I don't want to put the media on the HTPC itself21:08
jlongs2I've been doing some reading and it seems that I'd still have to run the mythtv backend, is that right?21:09
DaveMorrisit's perfectly possible, you just mount the share on the HTPC machine and mythtv then thinks it's local21:09
DaveMorrisI mount my music/video using NFS from my desktop to the HTPC machine in the living room21:09
jlongs2ok, what about mythtv's playback of stuff other than what it recorded?21:10
SoulBladestill segfaulted after trying to setup the mythbackend21:10
DaveMorrisif all your after is a machine to play back video and music I'd actually recommend using Rhythmbox and gxine\mplayer21:10
DaveMorrisSoulBlade: I'm out of ideas sorry.  Might be easier to dist-upgrade it to hardy over night21:11
SoulBladeaiight - thanks a lot21:11
DaveMorrisI actually exit mythtv and use rhythmbox for music, since mythmusic doesn't pick up all my music21:11
jlongs2that's an option, but I'm looking for it to be fully integrated, be able to work it with just a remote, like XBMC, which is my current setup.  I'd actually use the XBMC linux port, but it doesn't seem very mature from what I've been reading21:12
DaveMorrisyour other option is to use the other software which escapes my mind atm21:12
DaveMorrislet me google21:12
DaveMorriselisa - http://elisa.fluendo.com21:13
DaveMorrissuperm1: will kill me for recommending something else :)21:13
* superm1 will already kill DaveMorris if he doesn't get more documentation done21:13
* superm1 snaps a whip21:13
lagayeah21:13
laga;)21:13
* DaveMorris wonders if elisa will work as a frontend for mythtv yet21:13
* DaveMorris wonders if elisa could be launched instead of mythmusic from mythtv21:15
jlongs2that actually seems neat, thanks for the link21:16
DaveMorrisyeah it's quite cool from what I've seen and will suit you better.  Mythtv is mainly around watching/recording TV21:17
jlongs2yeah, i might buy a capture card at some point but for the moment I basically want an HD-capable XBMC, so that looks good, thanks21:18
directhexDaveMorris, does elisa work at all yet?21:21
directhexDaveMorris, or does it still just crash if you touch the escape button?21:21
[Soul]<--21:21
[Soul]grr21:21
* [Soul] is SoulBlade21:21
DaveMorrisdirecthex tbh I've not used it, just been aware of it and seen people running it21:21
[Soul]anyway, whats the command to do the dist upgrade? might as well trigger it now21:21
directhex[Soul], update-manager -c -d21:21
directhexymmv. ianal. gl. iddqd. dnkroz21:22
DaveMorrisdirecthex your right, just install elisa on my hardy laptop, and I can hardly navigate around the menu system it seems so slow.  The mythtv frontend been written in clutter appears to work better21:38
directhexDaveMorris, all hail clutter! as long as it leaves pvr350 owners crying, i'm all for it21:39
DaveMorrisclutter is some cool tech21:39
EvilGurudirecthex: Last week you posted a very nice script to remove old kernel images, do you still have it?21:40
directhexEvilGuru, no, i just came up with it on the spot21:40
directhexDaveMorris, isn't clutter gobject-based? i can't see the qt-loving devs making that onumental a change21:40
DaveMorrisa guy at noisymine.org is working on it.  When I finish my masters at work I might give him a hand21:42
hti_promythweb is getting a memory limit error, while searching listings it is using more than 48MB21:51
hti_projust to search listings?  sound like a runaway process to me21:53
PiXeLStickelisa looks neat. Does it work with mythtv?21:57
DaveMorrisno it's a seperate project21:57
* Daviey made a mockup of myth frontend using clutter.. justinh was pretty damn rude about it :(21:57
DaveMorrisalthough if they wanted to could put it in21:57
DaveMorrisDaviey: someone else is doing that21:57
lagaDaviey: hah21:57
PiXeLStickI know, but there are projects that can connect to a mythbox21:57
Davieyhence me not being in #mythtv or #mythtv-users anymore... :(21:58
DaveMorrishttp://www.noisymime.org/projects.html gloss21:59
DaveMorrisgloss is the name of the project21:59
DaveMorrisnot functional yet though21:59
PiXeLStickI am watching a youtube of gloss22:00
DavieyDaveMorris: http://daviey.mooo.com/~dave/out.ogg  <-- thats as far as i got22:01
DaveMorrisneeds a lot of work to make it functional.  However if you know python and wanna help him out I'm sure he won't mind22:01
DaveMorrisI've got some ideas but not had time22:02
DaveMorrisI chatted to the bloke, his main development is on Ubuntu :)22:02
* majoridiot thinks that looks cool as hell22:02
Davieywell i lost all interest in doing it with justinh's crappy attitude.. considering how much he throws his toys out of his pram if someone criticises his work22:04
DaveMorrisDaviey: personally, I think people would prefer to use that to the current version22:05
DaveMorrisand it's the way forward22:05
DaveMorrisalong with a web interface for configuring a backend :)22:06
DavieyI know.. which was why i bothered doing something - and just to get bitched at.. so i stopped continuing - i didn't know gloss was in the works :(22:06
DaveMorristhey are just trying to protect their way of working22:08
DaveMorrishowever you need to make it easy for themes to be made for the new interface, ideally making it so the same theme could be used22:08
DavieyHave you heard justinh's attitude when someone complains about mythtv?  "patches welcome"  "do something about it then"22:09
DaveMorrisyep, I ignore it22:09
PiXeLStickreally? That sux22:12
PiXeLStickMaybe it is stressful being a project leader of a large project.22:12
directhexjustinh is not a project leader22:22
directhexhe just made some very popular themes, and a few patches22:22
PiXeLStickoh, then I wouldn't pay attention to him22:22
PiXeLStickI wonder why he has such an attitude22:28
Davieydirecthex: /me knows this.. but put me right off contributing regardless22:28
lagato be honest, "send a patch" is the right answer sometimes ;)23:08
Franky_the_PierHi there!  I have been trying to setuup mythbuntu for the past 5 days, actually the install is very easy, but, remote wont work.  I read everything there is on the net for the past 5 days.  tuner is hauppauge pvr-150, with remote A415-HPG.  The version i have right now is Hardy 8.04 beta.  But, I have tried Gutsy and Knoppmyth, all with the same result.  IRW is not working, and the reason I believe is that under /dev there23:35
Franky_the_Pieris no files or folders lirc, no lircd, nothin related to lirc at all whatsoever.  Under /etc/lirc I have all the files needed (i think): hardware.conf, lirdc.conf, and lircmd.conf.  At setup time, I told it that I have the remote hauppauge tv card, and i want to use the ir blaster as well.  I installed like 10 times, trying various settings here, to no avail.  Anyways, I would like to find a solution if possible!  I ran out23:35
Franky_the_Pier of googling ideas!!  Thank you very much, becasue mythtv looks awesome.  PS: The tuner card works well, i can control everything with the keyboard, but of course i dont want a keyboard full time in living room.  I can watch tv and all.  Only the LIRC is a problem.  Thanks again!23:35
DaveMorrisFranky_the_Pier: whats the output of sudo /etc/inid.d/lirc restart --verbose23:40
Franky_the_PierDave: 1 sec, lemme check23:40
Franky_the_Pier(how do you get my name in fornt of the post, did you retype?)23:41
DaveMorrisI used pidgin, so I type it (with tab for completion)23:41
DaveMorrisbut typing it does the same thing23:41
Franky_the_Pierok23:41
Franky_the_Pierok, Stooping the remote daemons: FAIL23:42
Franky_the_PierLoading LIRC modules: OK23:42
Franky_the_PierStarting the remote control daemons: FAIL23:42
Franky_the_PierDAVE: that's it23:42
DaveMorrisok23:42
Franky_the_PierDave: any ideas?23:43
DaveMorriscan you run sudo lircd23:44
Franky_the_Pieri ran it, and it just did nothing, just another line on command prompt23:44
DaveMorrishmmm23:44
Franky_the_Pierirw also just returns another line in command prompt23:45
DaveMorrisactually my lircd returns (and it works)23:45
Franky_the_Pieroh, what does it do when it works?23:46
Franky_the_Pierbut the fact that there is nothing related to LIRC in /dev is a big problem...23:48
DaveMorrisyeah but what have you got under /dev/input23:49
Franky_the_PierI have 1 folder called "by-path", and some files called "event0" thru to "event5", then file "mice", "mouse0", "mouse1".  That's it23:50
DaveMorrisit's prob sitting under one of those event* devices23:51
Franky_the_Pierwhat can i do?23:52
DaveMorrisin your hardware.conf (I think its in /etc) change REMOTE_DEVICE="/dev/lirc0" to REMOTE_DEVICE="/dev/input/event0"23:53
DaveMorrisand restart lirc, test with irw. If it doesn't work try event1 etc till you've tried them all23:53
superm1dpkg-reconfigure lirc should actually do that automatically for you too (MCC should have too, if it didn't that's a bit of a bug)23:53
superm1but it should have given you the event devices during remote selection23:53
Franky_the_Pierok, but right now, in hardware.cong, the device is: "REMOTE_DEVICE=" "23:54
DaveMorrissuperm1: but how can you tell which device it's hiding under?23:54
superm1magic?23:54
Franky_the_Pierok, so I run dpkg-reconfigure lirc then hey23:55
Franky_the_Pierit seems to hang on "Loading LIRC modules"...23:57
superm1oh well that's not good.23:57
Franky_the_Pierno kidding!23:57
superm1kill any modprobe processes23:57
Franky_the_Pierok...  I am a little green for that, can you spell it out for me please?23:58
