mdkekirkland: that's pretty cool. funnily enough we've recently been working on something similar. I'll email you to discuss08:00
mdkehi glatzor08:20
mdkeglatzor: I noticed there are not many german translations in ubuntu-docs this cycle - is there a shortage of contributors in the de translation team? I'm surprised because it's a large community, and a lot of the other languages have made really good progress08:23
mdkeglatzor: let's chat another time about it, I have to go to work now08:43
kirklandmdke: hiya15:08
kirklandmdke: I responded to your email, with a bit more background on my efforts with this15:08
kirklandmdke: the net is that I'm happy to collaborate, and I didn't know you guys existed :-)15:19
mdkekirkland: :) welcome and thanks20:12
kirklandmdke: sure, no problem20:15
kirklandmdke: I was looking for a way to join the doc team on Launchpad20:15
kirklandI don't see a "Apply" link as i thought I might20:15
kirklandmdke: I'm going to capture the highlights of my design ideas in a Blueprint, and we can refine/collaborate on those as appropriate20:16
mdkekirkland: ubuntu-doc on LP is an umbrella team for a number of other subteams, so we don't add individuals to that; however you might be interested in one of the subteams20:17
mdkekirkland: blueprint sounds great20:17
kirklandmdke: gotcha, i'll have a look at those20:17
kirklandmdke: I'll send you a followup note pointing to the blueprint when I get around to it20:18
kirklandmdke: ISO testing is hot and heavy right now ;-)20:18
mdkekirkland: many thanks20:18
kirklandmdke: you bet.20:18
kirklandmdke: so you're the leader of the documentation posse, I take it?20:18
kirkland:-)20:18
mdkekirkland: we don't really have a "leader"20:19
kirkland:-P20:19
mdkebbiab, dinner has arrived20:20
kirklandmdke: well, I was pointed to you20:20
kirklandlater20:20
mdkekirkland: I guess I'm the person who bosses others around more than anyone else20:43
kirklandmdke: I just ran across your blog, saw you were having trouble with at t43 and hard disk detection... is this still a problem?20:44
kirklandmdke: see the footnote in http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T4320:45
kirkland"While the physical disk is PATA (IDE), it is accessed through a SATA controller and a SATA-to-PATA bridge. It thus appears as a SATA device to the operating system, which causes some problems under Linux. The SATA-to-PATA bridge also necessitates drive firmware changes, causing a problem with non-ThinkPad hard disks. "20:45
mdkekirkland: I still have it, but I'm pretty sure now it's a hardware issue, because it always used to work, and often when I cold boot, Windows won't start unless I reboot the system after a "no hard disk found" error20:47
mdkekirkland: I'm going to send the laptop back as soon as I get around to it20:47
kirklandmdke: yuck, that's a mess20:48
mdkekirkland: still in warranty :)20:48
kirklandmdke: well there you go20:49
mdkekirkland: thanks anyway20:49
kirklandmdke: I've only ever owned Thinkpads, but I've owned a lot of them, and I swear by them, and especially their warranty20:50
mdkekirkland: this one has been pretty flawless.20:50
