keesmario_limonciell: svideo used to work pre-gutsy...00:00
mario_limonciellkees, on that particular card?00:00
keesmario_limonciell: yeah00:10
keesI need to figure out the right place to report the issue.  I continue to be lazy...00:11
mario_limonciellkees, well if it was implemented, that would have been due to reverse engineering and not due to docs released then :)00:12
mario_limoncielli'd guess with the X.org bug tracker though?00:12
keesmario_limonciell: hehe.  possible.  xrandr actually lists it as a port, but never sees anything "connect" to it.00:12
mario_limonciellkees, how often do you "really" want to use svid though in the first place?  Once I went to DVI/VGA/HDMI, no looking back :)00:14
keesmario_limonciell: right, it's not for myth at all -- it'd be for things like showing photos on a TV when traveling to family's houses00:16
mario_limonciellah yeah00:17
mario_limonciellthat'd make sense00:17
mario_limoncielltell them to buy a new TV :)00:17
bryce_ok got the low down on the compiz/ati issue from alex.  sounds pretty bad00:37

tjaaltonwhoa, new sun-java6 fixed the assertion bug when using xcb10:22
james_wseb128: hi, http://paste.ubuntu.com/7274/ <- that's the change I was discussing with bryce last night, would you accept it?11:33
james_wobviously post-rc, so there's no rush if you are busy11:33
seb128james_w: I'm not sure to understand what the patch as doing11:36
seb128james_w: the version attached on bug #201589 is different11:36
ubotuLaunchpad bug 201589 in gnome-control-center "Screens Resolution tool shows text labels not centered, overlapping monitor area " [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/20158911:36
seb128I've no objection against dropping the change though11:37
james_wyeah, this patch has had a few changes in it's history. There's two parts really, the change to the font size, and the cario stuff yo center it.11:38
james_wupstream reduced the font size at some point to less than we were using, and when that was merged it wasn't noticed, and so we ended up increasing it, so we want to drop that part and just go with upstream11:38
james_wthe cairo stuff was commented by me, as upstream changed things in that area, and it meant that the text wasn't visible with those calls.11:39
seb128makes sense11:39
seb128let's go back with what upstream is doing11:39
james_wbryce said that the latest version looks ok even with those lines commented, so I guess upstream solved it a different way.11:40
seb128ok, cool11:40
seb128let's do that11:40
james_wgreat, thanks.11:40
james_wI'm going to try and look at the clone issue today, and I also want to to work on the evolution/n-m bug if that is still open.11:41
seb128thank you for working on the changes ;-)11:41
seb128ok11:41
seb128upstream were discussing the nm issue11:41
seb128you might want to join their chan on gimpnet to discuss the bug, that's usually makes thing easier than having to figure what to change etc11:42
james_wI'll have a look, last time I looked the proposed patch wasn't satisfactory.11:42
james_wah, thanks for the tip.11:42
james_wthe code is pretty strange, I have a hunch that the meaning of the flags has actually reversed over time.11:42
ubotuNew bug: #218592 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 "acx hangs network" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21859212:02
james_wthis clone checkbox is pretty strange.12:16
james_wseb128: I've got a patch, but my screen is messed up now from testing, I'll be back shortly with it13:11
james_wseb128: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7282/13:37
james_wso it turns on clone mode if there is a pair of screens at 0,0 with the same width and height. I think that was the original intent of the code.13:38
seb128james_w: ok, good13:50
james_wI realised I can plug my desktop monitor in to my laptop, and so it's had some testing in dual screen as well.13:51
seb128;-)13:52
seb128I should try that too, I only tested on configurations where there is one monitor so far13:52
seb128but plugging my desktop monitor on the laptop should be easy enough ;-)13:52
james_wyeah, unfortunately I can only get 640x480 in clone mode, and coming back out of it messes up my laptop screen.13:54
seb128what video driver?13:55
james_wintel13:56
james_wI managed to fix it up the first time with some xrandr calls, but not the second time.13:56
ubotuNew bug: #218671 in xserver-xorg-input-elographics (universe) "MinY < MaxY leads to unexpected behaviour" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21867115:16

mario_limoncieller i guess that was directed at a ghost :)18:09

federico1bryce: pingety ping :)18:22
federico1bryce_: ping18:26
bryce_heya18:26
federico1bryce_: hey!18:26
federico1how's the married man?18:26
bryce_hehe18:26
bryce_he's wishing for more than continental breakfasts at the moment ;-)18:27
bryce_federico1: I am noticing soeren is as quiet in person as he is in email ;-)18:27
federico1oh, you are in xdevconf?18:28
federico1yeah, he is - quiet freak genius, you know the type18:28
federico1bryce_: I wanted to ask you guys...18:29
federico1bryce_: "Detect displays" does nothing.  I'm tracing it, and randrwrap.c:fill_out_screen_info() calls XRRGetScreenResources().  That one gives only one output and crtc.  Is my xorg.conf fucked, or does my driver (radeon) not support hotplug, or do you have an idea of what's going on? :)18:30
federico1I'm about to build xorg-driver-video with debug info to see what's up18:30
jcristaufederico1: could you pastebin the output of 'xrandr -q'?18:34
federico1cacharro$ xrandr -q18:34
federico1Screen 0: minimum 640 x 350, current 1400 x 1050, maximum 1400 x 105018:34

federico1(and a bunch of other resolutions)18:34
bryce_-radeon and -radeonhd support xrandr 1.2, so should work18:34
jcristaufederico1: yeah that's randr 1.118:34
bryce_federico1: what version of driver and x server are you running?18:35
* federico1 raises an eyebrow18:36
federico1cacharro$ rpm -q xorg-x11-driver-video18:36
federico1xorg-x11-driver-video-7.3-9918:36
federico1hmm, how can I get the actual driver version?  from thelog file?18:37
bryce_yep18:37
bryce_your Xorg.0.log should indicate it in the first three lines after loading it18:37
jcristaui'm guessing 6.318:39

federico1aha!18:40
federico1so that 6.6.3 is biting my ass?18:41
jcristauyup18:41
jcristauyou need 6.8 (iirc) for randr 1.218:41
federico1jcristau: ok,thanks18:41
federico1for some reason we have a bunch of -ati release tarballs in our srpm18:41
federico1both 6.6.3 and 6.8.018:41
federico1let me untangle this and I'll let you know18:41
federico1jcristau: are you also working on the gnome-display-properties stuff?18:42
bryce_federico1: yep, some distros have stuck with 6.6.3 for stability.  I guess when xrandr got added, there came to be a lot of instabilities.18:45
federico1interesting18:46
federico1ok, I'll poke our X people18:46
bryce_federico1: jcristau isn't working on the gui18:46
federico1bryce_: ok 18:46
federico1bryce_: please do tell me where to pull from if you or soeren have some git love :)18:47
bryce_federico1: sure18:48
bryce_federico1: I suspect we're both too distracted by the conference to do much hacking on it this week though18:48
tjaaltonmario_limonciell: ok thanks, so I should('ve) push(ed) it to my ppa for people to test18:53
mario_limoncielltjaalton, what's your PPA link?  I'll give it a run18:54
federico1bryce_: ok - have fun :)18:54
federico1bryce_: change that continental breakfast; it gets old fast18:54
bryce_hehe18:54
bryce_federico1: are you receiving responses from soeren?  I haven't seen any emails from him in about a month18:55
federico1bryce_: I got hist last reply about a week ago18:57
tjaaltonmario_limonciell: it's not there yet :)18:58
federico1bryce_: please ping me if you get together to chat over irc :)18:58
mario_limoncielltjaalton, oh, read your statement wrong.  Let me know when it is18:58
bryce_federico1: certainly18:59
tjaaltonmario_limonciell: sure. it takes awhile to build the tarball etc. but it's pretty straightforward. I'll finish it after Lost :)19:01
bryce_tjaalton: status is looking pretty good now - http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Xorg/status_20080417.html19:03
bryce_[the -ati numbers are wrong on that link]19:03
tjaaltonhehe :)19:03
bryce_bug 204603 is the last milestoned X bug (well, also 198759)19:04
ubotuLaunchpad bug 204603 in xserver-xorg-video-intel "occasional hard crash on vt switch" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/20460319:04
tjaaltonhmm, xserver-xgl is not on the team package list19:05
tjaaltonnot that I'd worry too much about it :)19:05
bryce_me either19:05
bryce_compare http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Xorg/status_20080410.html and http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Xorg/status_20080417.html, there's been nice progress this past week19:06
tjaaltonbug 218785 is strange, I had the same problem yesterday19:07
ubotuLaunchpad bug 218785 in xorg "have to reinstall nvidia drivers on every reboot" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21878519:07
tjaaltonalthough a reinstall is not necessary, 'jockey-gtk --enable kmod:nvidia_new' is enough19:07
tjaaltonmust be something in lrm19:07
bryce_yeah I was messing with -nvidia and -nv a couple days ago and pulling my hair out19:08
bryce_although that wasn't latest hardy, so figured it wasn't worth a lot of troubleshooting time19:08
ubotuNew bug: #218334 in xorg (main) "black screen of death" [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21833419:09
james_whi bryce 19:11
james_whi federico1 19:12
james_wfederico1: you might well want http://paste.ubuntu.com/7310/ as well19:13
federico1james_w: give me a description for "git commit -m" and I'll put it in19:16
james_w  * Invert the logic in the detection of clone mode so that it works for a19:17
james_w    single screen as well. Without this change single screens are always19:17
james_w    reported as clone, which makes no sense.19:17
james_wthat was my changelog entry19:17
federico1james_w: ah, nice, thanks19:18
* federico1 commits19:18
federico1yeah, I was wondering why that was turned on :)19:18
james_wdo you think the clone checkbox should be insensitive if there is only one screen?19:19
federico1james_w: pushed!19:21
james_wthanks19:22
federico1james_w: yeah... can we do tooltips on insensitive widgets now?  if so, add a tooltip to say "cloning a display needs more than one monitor" or something :)19:22
federico1james_w: if you have a git repo somewhere, please ping me so that I can pull the love from you19:22
* federico1 is a total git-remote whore these days19:22
james_wI'm not sure about that. I'm sure you know more about gtk+ than me :-)19:22
federico1james_w: let me check quickly19:23
james_wheh, I don't have a git repo I'm afraid. We haven't really got the whole VCS <-> source package thing worked out yet.19:23
james_wI've got to cook now, sorry.19:24
federico1james_w: yes, you can!  gtk_widget_set_tooltip_text() works fine for insensitive widgets19:25
federico1james_w: I have a super-quick script to build me an rpm from my git repo19:26
federico1james_w: let me mail it to you19:26
james_wI'd like to see it19:26
federico1james_w: mailed19:29
federico1you'll need to s/rpmbuild/apt-whatever, I assume :)19:29
federico1james_w: cook in peace - it's therapeutic19:29
federico1don't forget the PEPPER19:29
federico1lots of it19:29
bryce_heya james_w19:43
federico1w00t19:51
* federico1 gets hotplug goodness19:51
federico1time to restart X19:51
federico1bryce_: woot, I changed to the ati 6.8.0 and I have some hotplug goodness :)21:18
federico1bryce_: but side-by-side doesn't work; I think it's the virtual size thing.  What do I need in my xorg.conf, if anything?21:19
bryce_federico1: you need something like this in your Screen section21:28
bryce_SubSection "Display"21:28
bryce_Depth2421:28
bryce_Modes"1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"21:28
bryce_#Virtual2560 256021:28
bryce_                Virtual         3840 120021:28
bryce_EndSubSection21:28
bryce_note that if you go above 2048x2048, composited desktop won't work 21:28
federico1excellent21:29
federico1bryce_: thanks :)21:29
bryce_no prob21:29
federico1time to restart X again21:29
bryce_oh btw, that's yet another thing that would be nice to fix - we don't have any mechanism for modding the Virtual line in xorg.conf, and I suspect many users will be wishing for that21:30
bryce_however, I guess until we have left-of/right-of implemented in the GUI it's a moot point.21:30
federico1bryce_: huh?  I can already drag-and-drop the monitors in gnome-display-properties21:31
federico1bryce_: and they snap to the corners and everything21:31
bryce_oh?  I'd tried that but it didn't seem to do anything so I assumed it wasn't done yet.  Cool.21:32
bryce_so then that makes the Virtual thing high priority21:32
federico1bryce_: well, I could drag them, but reconfiguration didn't work.  I assumed it was the Virtual thing... let me restart and I'll tell you :)21:32
tjaaltonmario_limonciell: I'll have to postpone the new fglrx to next day, but will get to it early in the morning21:58
