atterdagI'm not sure whats wrong with my Mythubuntu 8, but it seems that lirc is configure in a 'funny' way. I'm using the IR remote with my Hauppauge Nova T 500; I can use the arrow keys and number keys on the remote, but all other keys is not working. If I just showkeys, I see normal keycodes as if its a normal keyboard keys, but if I try to define the keys inside mythtv, such as trying to bind escape with my back/00:00
atterdagexit key, MythTV tells me that its an unknown key. I've tried to debug using mode2 and irw, but no codes are displayed when I press any key on my remote.00:00
lagait's probably handled by something inside the kernel.. seach the mythbuntu forums, you'll likely need the dev/input driver00:03
atterdaglaga: I'm using the devinput driver, but I've also tried the default driver00:10
jumpkicksigh... my 1080i channels are all green....  anyone seen that before?00:54
pdragonwoot! got spdif working for livetv and videos! :D01:39
superm1TazgodX, if you get things working well, i'd be interested to hear details01:53
superm1it's available in my area01:53
TazgodXim waiting for the new release before i install again01:56
TazgodXmy old mythbox took a dive01:56
superm1the rc came out today :)01:56
TazgodXreally01:56
TazgodX?01:56
TazgodXguess ill just use that01:56
TazgodX:)01:56
superm1http://www.mythbuntu.org/hardyrc01:57
TazgodXim gonna have to go thru the STB, so now that my box has 3 TV inputs...none of that matters eh?01:58
superm1well yout STB, what outputs does it have ?01:58
superm1firewire by chance?01:58
TazgodXHDMI, compsite, S-Video, RCA01:58
superm1oh i see01:58
superm1well then you'll have to be capturing the s-video01:58
TazgodXhjold on, let me see if there is firewire01:58
superm1if it does (and it works), then you better believe i'm switching to AT&T01:59
TazgodXit has USB. but no firewire01:59
superm1oh boo..01:59
TazgodXyeah it has coax out too02:00
superm1no component output though?02:00
TazgodXthats the red blue green right02:00
TazgodXyeah it has that02:00
TazgodXit gets its signal from an ethernet jack02:01
TazgodXhmmm, visually it has changed from when i was last here02:03
TazgodXfinally don't have to mess with LVMs02:03
TazgodX:)02:03
superm1yeah there's been a fair deal of work on artwrok02:04
superm1i wonder if ATT falls under the FCC mandate for firewire02:04
superm1if they do, then maybe it's feasible to get a box with one02:04
TazgodXhold on, let me look at the DVR box downstairs02:05
TazgodXsee if it has one02:05
superm1but its good that they have component.  when the Hauppauge HD-PVR comes out then can use that02:05
TazgodXi have a PVR 500 and 350...both garbage now02:06
TazgodXspecially the 50002:06
TazgodXlol02:06
superm1why is it garbage?02:07
TazgodXwell i can't get 3 video streams coming out02:07
superm1just hook up more STB's02:07
TazgodXof this box02:07
TazgodXlol02:07
superm1that's a good point though, my HD home run and HD5000 would be pointless02:07
TazgodXi mean i can use my 350, but the 500 is useless to me now02:08
superm1yeah02:08
pdragonwhen is the HD-PVR coming out?02:08
superm1well dont you get like 4 STB's with the plan?02:08
TazgodX302:08
TazgodXi have 602:08
TazgodXlol02:08
superm1at least when i was investigating, they provided an inordinantly large amount02:08
superm1damn dude02:08
superm1so go hook more up to myth02:08
superm1pdragon, next month02:09
TazgodXthey are all on other TVs02:09
superm1those tv's should be running myth ;)02:09
TazgodXill tell you what, the service of this cable is great02:09
TazgodXim just disapointed i can't use my mythbox with it like i could normal cable02:10
pdragoncool02:10
TazgodXi want to set up a few more PCs for myth frontends, but can't afford it02:10
superm1no mentions on linux support though yet pdragon02:10
superm1er no official mentions02:10
superm1TazgodX, well with 8.04....02:11
superm1diskless frontends02:11
superm1less expensive02:11
TazgodXwhat exactly does that mean. i saw that a little bit ago02:11
TazgodXno HDD?02:11
TazgodXcause i ahve a PC sitting around with no HDD :)02:11
pdragonsuperm1: any idea if a fix is being put in for https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/21085202:12
pdragongot a nice new high end sound card and still having it happen02:12
superm1TazgodX, yup02:13
superm1pdragon, if you knew of a solution i'd be glad to put it in02:13
superm1i've not seen anything though02:13
TazgodXhmmm02:14
pdragonfox's post mentioned something in the directtv.pl script being modified02:14
TazgodXand it boots off the network then?02:14
superm1yup02:14
pdragoni'm not sure how to go about modifying it tho02:14
superm1get the backend set up and then you can play with the diskless stuff02:14
TazgodXso i would need a mobo that supports booting off the network02:14
superm1TazgodX, nope02:14
superm1you can copy the kernel and initrd to a flash drive and boot that on the flash drive and then chainload to the network02:14
TazgodXreally...now im confused and intriqued02:15
superm1TazgodX, or you can do network booting02:15
superm1yeah laga started some docs on it, but they aren't fully done02:15
TazgodXimma play with that later02:15
TazgodXright now im trying to plan out how i want this ran02:15
superm1get your machine up and running and then can get you pointed at those docs (and hopefully you can help improve them)02:15
TazgodXthey ran cat5 throughout my house for these boxes, so my whole house it networked :)02:16
pdragonyeah, i finally got a nice backend machine set up02:16
TazgodXmaybe ill move some boxes around and get 2 in this room02:16
superm1TazgodX, yeah if you can prove that it works well, then you'd be set :)02:17
TazgodXburnign the disk now02:18
pdragoni'll be moving into a house later this year. will be getting cable drops put in all rooms probably :)02:18
pdragoncat 5 cable02:18
TazgodXi really wanted to wire my house with cat5...then they came along and did it free :)02:18
TazgodXall running to a router downstairs...02:19
TazgodXi actually ran 1 wire from where they have it coming from to my room...and then pluggin into a switch. instead of just useing that wire they ran another one along side it...not exactly smart02:20
superm1i'd wonder too if the native iptv recorder in myth can use uverse....02:21
superm1that would be way too awesome though02:21
TazgodXi was trying to read up on that02:21
TazgodXdidn't find much on it tho02:21
pdragonwhat's that?02:21
superm1myth has a native iptv recorder02:22
superm1that can work with unencrypted streams02:22
superm1i dont know if those streams are encrypted, but odds are you will need to run wireshark on your network02:22
superm1to find out what url and what protocol is used02:22
superm1to figure out if the native iptv recorder really will wrok02:22
superm1work even02:22
TazgodXwireshark?02:23
superm1yeah02:23
superm1used to be known as ethereal02:23
TazgodXok, tell ya what. let me get this box loaded. and me and you can screw around with all that :)02:23
superm1if i had time for such random screwing arounds, i'd probably already have uverse :)02:23
TazgodXhaha02:24
superm1but once release is out yeah i should be able to sit down an evening02:24
superm1and try to walk you through how to look into it02:24
franky_the_pierrhi, i was trying to figure out why my hauppauge pvr-150 remote doesnt work last week end, with the help of superm1, and we did not find out.  We left it as I was going to try the card in a winblows system to veryfy the hardware.  I did that, and everything works good in windows, so hw is good.   Can we pick up from there...  anybody could help me?02:41
TazgodXhmmm, superm1 error on install can't format disk... not a good start for me LOL02:45
superm1TazgodX, you did the live disk right?02:45
TazgodXyeah, i did Desktop/Live Disk02:46
superm1weird....02:47
superm1well try formating it before hand?02:47
TazgodXany problems with sata?02:47
superm1that's the same version of the installer shipping with normal ubuntu 8.04...02:47
TazgodXhmmm02:47
superm1so there shouldnt be anything wrong with it02:47
TazgodXok, guess ill format first and try this again.02:47
TazgodXanything special with the mythbuntu install partitions?02:47
superm1that's really bzr though02:48
superm1no there isn't02:48
franky_the_pierrsuperm1: can we pick up where we left off last weekend in my troubleshooting?02:49
superm1frank23, sorry i'm on my way out right now02:50
franky_the_pierrok np02:50
superm1if someone else in here can help out hopefully02:50
franky_the_pierrok02:50
superm1otherwise i'll be around tomorrow at some point02:50
franky_the_pierrthx02:50
TazgodXso superm1, it makes one big ext3 partition and a swap partition?02:53
TazgodXimma make a 10GB ext3 partition and a swap aprtition and a XFS partition for the rest, anywhere special i should mount the XFS?02:53
TazgodX/var/lib still where everything is?02:56
pdragonby default i believe so03:00
pdragonyou can change it to wherever you want03:00
pdragonmoved mine to /opt/mythtv03:00
pdragonso, you can make the xfs partition and set the mount point at a later time03:02
bobcallawayubuntu sees my hauppauge wintv go card has a sound device that is listed as booktree bt878 but I cannot get any sound from this card03:15
bobcallawayhow do I configure it?03:16

darthanubisso if I pause a stream asx via the web, while ffmpeg is transdoing it, and happen to pause the viewing, ffmpeg just decides not to continue transcoding the rest of the video, so I can continue to watch the remaining of the show?04:10
darthanubisDoes anyone stream video via the web from their myth box here?04:10
tgm4883_laptopyes sometimes04:16
darthanubisI'm having a  less than desirable experience using mythweb to watch streams.04:30
darthanubisI would like to have myth take my 2gb hr shows from my pvr150, and transcode them into 350mb hour shows so I could easily just download the whole show. If I could have it edit the commercials out thats be ideal.04:31
darthanubisCan this be done?04:31
darthanubisI attempted this with nuvexport, because it was supposed to read the cutlist from a .nuv file and then transcode the video into a human readable file format04:32
darthanubisbut it transcoded the file to the right size, but a bogus file name04:32
darthanubisso which is used mythexport or nuvexport?04:43
Krusher00Hello quiet channel, I have a question for thee04:49

Krusher00shows up correctly when I run 'lsusb'04:50
Krusher00but when I try to test or scan with it I get the error "Error(2): /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0: No such file or directory"04:50

Krusher00and post any sucesses here for future ref.04:55
Krusher00also just noticed it hasn't loaded any of the dvb modules with modprobe either.05:17
RibsKrusher00: You'll need to load modules for that hardware07:04
Ribsthat's why your DVB nodes aren't being created07:04
darthanubisffmpeg is not transcoding the whole hour show to stream via mythweb07:07
Krusher00Ribs: any idea which modules I should be loading? (For a DViCO nano)08:42
Ribsermm#08:46
Ribsno08:46
Ribsyou'll need dvb_core for sure08:46
RibsI needed dvb_bt8xx for my pci card08:46
Krusher00just that it's not loading any in /etc/modules by default and I've got nfi which to choose..08:46
Krusher00ok, i'll poke around some more and see what I can find08:46
Krusher00thanks thou08:46
Ribsdo "locate dvb"08:46
Krusher00I wasn't sure if that was my problem or not08:46
Ribsthat'll throw up a shed load of modules08:46
Ribsdmesg is also helpfull08:46
RibsI found that Ubuntu only recently found the hardware without me helping it08:47
Ribs7.10 seemed to improve the dvb side of things08:47
Ribsanyway, I have to go now08:47
Ribsgood luck08:47
Krusher00thanks heaps08:47
Krusher00just tried loading all the dvb-* modules  and running scan, still getting the "Error(2): /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0: No such file or directory"09:12

|DuReX|hello, whats best to use, ATI open source driver ? the restricted in ubuntu repo's or the one @ www.ati.com ?11:59
darthanubis!common12:00
ubotuSorry, I don't know anything about common - try searching on http://ubotu.ubuntu-nl.org/factoids.cgi12:00
darthanubis!sense12:00
ubotuCommon Sense: Just because you can, does not mean you should. Think before you do. "Works for me" does not mean it is ok. The latest version of everything is not always useful if you aim for stability.12:00
darthanubis!best12:01
ubotuUsually, there is no single "best" application to perform a given task. It's up to you to choose, depending on your preferences, features you require, and other factors. Do NOT take polls in the channel. If you insist on getting people's opinions, ask BestBot in #ubuntu-bots.12:01
|DuReX|the restricted in ubuntu repo's the output in mythtv is lagging :s12:02
laga|DuReX|: don't install drivers directly from ati.com. at least for nvidia, that's a good way to bring your system into an incosnsistent state... if you have to update the driver, envy-ng should work12:05
lagaand i'd always prefer the free driver if it works ;)12:05
|DuReX|the open source works best12:06
|DuReX|but sometimes it locks :s12:06
|DuReX|buffer full or something :p12:07
MythbuntuGuest44hi @ all13:47
MythbuntuGuest44a have a little problem with installing mythbuntu 7.1013:49
MythbuntuGuest44anyone who can help me?13:49
laga!ask13:50
ubotuPlease don't ask to ask a question, ask the question (all on ONE line, so others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely answer. :-)13:50
MythbuntuGuest44ah ok13:50
MythbuntuGuest44i want to install it but it stops and hang after running local boot scripts(/etc/rc.lokal) [ok]13:52
MythbuntuGuest44cd usr13:53

Krusher00RC = Release client, and the new version of ubuntu is coming out in the next couple of days anyway.. so you'd expect it to be pretty close to stable ;-)14:00
lagaKrusher00: s/client/candidate/ :)14:00

Krusher00what he said :-D14:00
MythbuntuGuest44oh ok14:01
MythbuntuGuest44can i upgrade the rc4 to the final or do i have to install it new14:01
Krusher00if you're having problems booting on that one straight after the install, I'd say you'd be better off starting afresh.14:02
MythbuntuGuest44no, im not able to install 7.1014:02
MythbuntuGuest44he breaks while installing14:02
Krusher00oh sorry I see what you mean14:03

MythbuntuGuest44is mythbuntu a complete replacement für windows mce?14:36
MythbuntuGuest44it should be easy to use14:36
lagait's an alternative14:37
Krusher00the frontend is similar, and easy to navigate but I wouldn't put it as a replacement.. myth does a lot of things windows can't/doesn't :-)14:37
MythbuntuGuest44oh ok14:38
MythbuntuGuest44i only want to be able to play my dokumentations from the webserver on my tv in my living room :-)14:38

MythbuntuGuest44so it only has to be easy to use :-914:39
MythbuntuGuest44sorry about my bad english :-/14:39

MythbuntuGuest44sorry im not able to help u :-/14:50
Krusher00hehe thats ok, just feel free to help out someone else when you do know the answer ;-)14:50

MythbuntuGuest44so15:02
MythbuntuGuest44new problem15:02
MythbuntuGuest44if i select master backend to install he have a failure15:02
jumpkickKrusher00: look at lsmod and at dmesg to see if there's anything related to the tuner15:07
jumpkickmaybe you have to restart usb-hotplug or udev or something like that15:07
jumpkickbut anytime you plug in a usb dev you should get something in dmesg15:08
Krusher00MythbuntuGuest44 did you try just doing the standard installation?15:11
MythbuntuGuest44yes15:12
MythbuntuGuest44but he asks me near the end to install additional software15:12
Krusher00oh that bit15:12
MythbuntuGuest44so i choose mythbuntu frontend15:12
MythbuntuGuest44and master backend15:12
MythbuntuGuest44if i choose both he brakes15:13
Krusher00so you're talking about after it had installed on the drive an everything?15:13
MythbuntuGuest44if i only choose frontend15:13
MythbuntuGuest44he pass installation complete but he starts and then u hear a speaker signal and i habve a black screen and nothing happen15:13
Krusher00jumpkick: I've added the modules into /etc/modules so they load on startup, but other than the listing in lsusb, can't find anything showing that it has been added other than what was listed in the pastebin (http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7502/)15:13
MythbuntuGuest44i install it new at this time15:14
MythbuntuGuest44now he installs the core system15:14
Krusher00hmm, I'm just installing 8.04 on a second box here as we speak (to see if it makes any difference to my tuner) so I'll see how it goes for me.15:14
MythbuntuGuest44i install rc4 too15:15
MythbuntuGuest44so now i have to type a username15:15
MythbuntuGuest44and choose a proxy15:15
MythbuntuGuest44no proxy15:15
MythbuntuGuest44soooo15:15
MythbuntuGuest44now i have to choose software to install15:15
MythbuntuGuest44i choose master backend and frontend15:16
MythbuntuGuest44right?15:16
MythbuntuGuest44in german: installationsschritt fehlgeschlagen15:16
MythbuntuGuest44install failed15:16
MythbuntuGuest44it comes when i choose master backend15:17
MythbuntuGuest44i tried master backend alone and he failes too15:17
MythbuntuGuest44when i choose frontend only then he installs bit starts to a black screen15:17
MythbuntuGuest44every time  i choose master backend he brake15:18
MythbuntuGuest44bullshit :-)15:28

sauronhey, anyone wants to help a mythbuntu newbie15:54
sauronwell, attempted newbie15:54
lagawithout all these annoying splash screens so you can get some debugging output15:54
SoulBladeanybody know why i would get ALSA support not compiled in if i just upgraded to ubuntu 8.04 like a week ago - this is w/ myth .2115:54
Krusher00sauron, I'll give it a go15:54
sauronthe damn rc does not want to install15:54
MythbuntuGuest44ah ok :-)15:54
sauronat all15:54
SoulBladeand if i can just fix this w/ a package or whatever15:54
Krusher00sauron, what type of rc?15:55
sauronafter I select the installation it ends up at the busybox prompt15:55
sauronlatest 8.0415:55
Krusher00oh15:55
sauronbrand new setup, hdtv supposed to arrive today15:55
MythbuntuGuest44now he had said meny lines15:55
Krusher00haha I thought you meant remote control :-P15:55
sauronany ideas?  or should I just use the gutsy release?15:56
lagaSoulBlade: huh15:56
lagaSoulBlade: can you pastebin the error message15:56
MythbuntuGuest44but i cant sai whats wrong15:57
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: what are the last lines? maybe you can take a picture of the screen15:57
Krusher00laga would be the one to talk to but he's a little busy right now as you can see, if you want to go ahead and try the gutsy release you could do that, or wait for 8.04 stable to be released in a couple of days.15:57
sauronoh15:57
lagasauron: what exactly is wrong?15:57
sauronheh missed that comment krusher15:57
sauronwell, I cannot boot the live cd or do installation15:57
MythbuntuGuest44they are very fast15:57
sauronit starts loading, I get to the screen that says mythbuntu and the xp likeloading thing15:58
sauronand then it all just stops15:58
sauronand I get a prompt15:58
lagasauron: have you tried the safe graphics mode?15:58
sauronbox is barebones, mb + vid15:59
sauronyes15:59
sauronsame thing15:59
sauronI had suse 10.1 booting on it right before15:59
sauronso there is nothing wrong with it15:59
lagasauron: that's annoying.. can you download the alternate disk and try that? but take care, it might not be possible to install the master backend right off the CD - you can install it later on. i've just learned about that16:00
MythbuntuGuest44so laga i boot in recovery mode16:00
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: do you still see the lines?16:00
MythbuntuGuest44then i get a screen16:00
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: ah16:00
MythbuntuGuest44resume root or xfix16:00
sauronlaga: well, maybe I am better off installing ubunty and just mythtv packages?16:00
sauronthis seemed easier16:00
sauronbut I guess it is not16:01
Krusher00sauron, you could just use the 7.10 distribution16:01
lagasauron: whatever works for you :) you can just install mythbuntu-desktop to install mythbuntu on a normal ubuntu install16:01
sauronoh16:01
* Krusher00 watches laga fly loops around the channel :-O16:01
sauron:) ok problem solved16:01
sauronthanks16:01
sauronI do not want to mess around with a broken installer16:01
lagasauron: it's supposed to be easier, but it looks like there might be a problem with the live disk :)16:01
sauronor its just a problem with me :)16:01
sauronhmm16:02
laga(the live disk doesn't work for everyone, which is why we have the alternate disk :))16:02
saurongeneral question16:02
sauronanyone using firewire to record from the new gen cable boxes?16:02
lagasauron: http://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu <- maybe you can file a bug report about your problem with the live disk there16:02
MythbuntuGuest44so what to do now16:02
sauronvery little to report, it basically did not work, I did not get meaningful errors16:02
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: you have two options. try one of them ;)16:03
sauronso whats the diff with the alt disk?16:03
sauronlike I said, ubuntu installs fine for me using the regular disks16:03
MythbuntuGuest44i tried16:03
lagasauron: the alternate disk doesn't try to load an X environment, it's more like the normal debian disk16:03
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: try the other one?16:03
MythbuntuGuest44resume, he have the same black screren16:03
MythbuntuGuest44xfix he made16:03
MythbuntuGuest44and now i trie root16:03
MythbuntuGuest44ok now im in root shell16:03
MythbuntuGuest44:-)16:03
sauronok I will give that a shot, but I get the feeling my problem is not with the x env16:04
lagasauron: it's more compatible. wrt normal ubuntu disks working for you - we have a different build process for our disks, so things can go wrong there16:04
sauronI had several distros running on that box before16:04
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: that's progress.16:04
sauronic16:04
sauronok I will dl it16:04
sauronI hope I have some more blank cds around16:04
sauronthanks laga16:04
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: check /var/log/Xorg.0.log16:05
sauronand wost case I will just use reg installation16:05
lagasauron: i'm *very* interested in hearing about your experience with the alternate disks, these could still use some testing.16:05
lagasauron: right. it might take some time now, but you'll get there in the end16:05
MythbuntuGuest44so i opened the log with vi16:06
MythbuntuGuest44what i have to look for ?16:06
sauronok I hope I can let u know in a bit16:06
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: jump to the end of the file16:07
sauronit will be a while until it comes down, dl was much faster last night16:07
MythbuntuGuest44Dac detection success16:08
MythbuntuGuest44and last line dac connect 0000000216:08
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: nothing else? bah..16:08
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: /var/log/messages ? anything interesting in there? do you know how to use ssh?16:09
MythbuntuGuest44now sorry im just a linuix no0b16:09
MythbuntuGuest44but i think its the graphics card16:09
MythbuntuGuest44the last lines are all with ati in16:09
lagathat's sad.. i'd love to look at these logs with my own eyes, but writing them down is a bit annoying for you i guess ;)16:09
MythbuntuGuest44hehe thats right :-)16:10
MythbuntuGuest44so i just removed the ati card now16:10
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: i always blame ati. :)16:10
MythbuntuGuest44and try to take the onboard intel chip16:10
lagayes, that'd be good16:10
* Krusher00 pats his 2900xt16:11
Krusher00don't listen to him baby.16:11
MythbuntuGuest44but this onboard card doesn#t support hdtv :-/16:11
lagai'm afk for a few minutes, more household chores16:11
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: you should be able to add the card back later one16:11
lagas/one/on/16:11
MythbuntuGuest44ah ok16:11
MythbuntuGuest44uhhh16:12
MythbuntuGuest44after removing i see i screeen16:12
MythbuntuGuest44oh my good16:12
MythbuntuGuest44there was a miracle :-)16:12
lagare16:12
lagabah16:12
lagai think i know what your problem might be16:12
lagajust a theory: your intel card is recognized as the primary VGA card, thus X comes up on that card16:13
MythbuntuGuest44oh16:13
lagatry pluggin your ati card back in, but attach the monitor to the intel card16:13
MythbuntuGuest44mmmm should i just disable the intelcard in bios16:13
MythbuntuGuest44no16:13
SoulBladecan anybody help me with an audio problem in mythfrontend?  the logs state that alsa support is not compiled in... i can see that mplayer chooses to use alsa when it plays the stream properly16:13
MythbuntuGuest44i tried that before16:13
MythbuntuGuest44then the screen is power down :-/16:13
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: hum. then try to disable the intel card..16:13
MythbuntuGuest44no signal on the intel card16:13
MythbuntuGuest44k16:13
MythbuntuGuest44i disable it in bios16:13
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: too bad. :/ what makes you think that the intel card doesnt support HDTV?16:14
lagaSoulBlade: show me the logs, please16:14
SoulBladeok one sec16:14
MythbuntuGuest44i read this16:14
SoulBladehttp://pastebin.org/3076716:16
MythbuntuGuest44um16:17
MythbuntuGuest44its not possible to disable it in bios :-/16:17
lagaSoulBlade: very scary. can you show me apt-cache policy mythtv-frontend libmyth-0.21 and the output of mythfrontend --version?16:17
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: maybe there is a setting to make it prefer the pci express slot?16:17
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: or maybe it automatically disables the card and my theory was trash :)16:18
MythbuntuGuest44yes16:18
MythbuntuGuest44he disables the card16:18
MythbuntuGuest44but dont support the ati hd 2400 card+16:18
MythbuntuGuest44but i read the 2400 in the driver support16:18
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: what makes you think that your intel GPU doesn't support hdtv?16:19
MythbuntuGuest44i read it in some boards16:19
MythbuntuGuest44and i dont read hdtv support at intel homepage and msi homepage16:19
MythbuntuGuest44i would prefer to kick the ati out of it16:20
MythbuntuGuest44it only costs energy16:20
MythbuntuGuest44but i want to have hdtv on my plasma tv :-)16:20
MythbuntuGuest44this board has a dvi output16:20
MythbuntuGuest44but i couldnt read that it has hdtv16:20
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: in linux things are a bit differently16:21
lagas/ly/16:21
MythbuntuGuest44im a linux no0b :-)16:21
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: basically, for 2d video acceleration, your cards are about the same in linux.16:21
lagathere is no special hardware acceleration possible with those cards16:22
SoulBladehttp://pastebin.org/3076816:22
laga(3d is a different thing, but i usually dont need much 3d power on my mythtv box)16:22
MythbuntuGuest44oh ok16:22
MythbuntuGuest44so the cpu has to make the hdtv things?16:23
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: yup16:23
MythbuntuGuest44oh ok16:23
MythbuntuGuest44so im able to have hdtv films on my plasma without this sucking ati graphics card?16:24
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: well, where do you get them from?16:24
MythbuntuGuest44some captured from tv on discovery hd16:25
MythbuntuGuest44and im thinking about buying a blue ray drive16:25
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: blu ray is not supported in linux :/16:26
lagayour discovery hd recordings should work16:26
MythbuntuGuest44ok16:26
MythbuntuGuest44blue ray would come in a year or so16:26
MythbuntuGuest44:-)16:26
lagasince your CPU is fairly speedy, but you'd have to tweak your display profiles a little bit. but it ought to be possible16:26
lagai'd say go with the intel card now16:26
lagaSoulBlade: did you upgrade that ubuntu install? did you ever install mythtv from source?16:27
MythbuntuGuest44i install new with the intel card only at this moment :-)16:27
SoulBladei tried but failed miserably16:27
SoulBladeoriginally i was on gutsy, upgraded to .21 - but that broke legacy support16:27
SoulBladei then tried to build my own but never succeeded - and then ended up doing a dist upgrade to hardy16:28
MythbuntuGuest44its an core2duo 5600 1,8ghz so i think hes good enough to play hd :-)16:28
SoulBladeand i was fixed aside from audio16:28
SoulBladebut i havent tried installing from source since i did the upgrade16:28
SoulBladelaga - i get a policy for libmyth-0.20 but not one for libmyth-0.2116:34
MythbuntuGuest44so he startet xfce16:37
MythbuntuGuest44how to reinstall the master backend16:38
SoulBladeah butits there for libmyth-0.21-016:44
SoulBladeinstalled is the same as candidate: 0.21.0+fixes16838-0ubuntu316:45
SoulBlade500 in the version table for hardy/multiverse packages..16:45
lagaSoulBlade: libmyth-0.20 can probably be removed. the correct package is libmyth-0.21-0 i think16:48
lagayeah16:48
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: go to the control centre16:48
SoulBladeah yea - its not installed anymore16:48
MythbuntuGuest44i installed it16:49
MythbuntuGuest44do i have to type a password every time the computer starts?16:49
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: no. just explore the control centre and you'll find the correct option :)16:49
MythbuntuGuest44i trie this option at this time *gg*16:50
MythbuntuGuest44and it works :-)16:50
MythbuntuGuest44thanks a lot16:51
SoulBladenice16:51
lagatgm4883_laptop: any idea about SoulBlade's issue? http://pastebin.org/30767 http://pastebin.org/3076816:51
MythbuntuGuest44now i only have to found the correct thing for connect to a windows share to play this files16:51
MythbuntuGuest44then i am happy16:51
tgm4883_laptoplaga, SoulBlade whats the problem?16:53
lagatgm4883_laptop: his mythtv claims it's not compiled with alsa support16:54
SoulBladei have no audio when i play livetv16:54
SoulBladeand the logs say what laga just wrote16:54
SoulBladebut i can do mplayer /dev/video0 w/o a problem16:54
tgm4883_laptopstrange16:54
tgm4883_laptopis this an RC?16:54
tgm4883_laptopRC install16:54
MythbuntuGuest44remote control16:54
SoulBladei picked this up after doing an update to hardy and then using synaptics16:54
lagaMythbuntuGuest44: RC = release candidate these days ;)16:55
MythbuntuGuest44is synaptic a touchpad or what?16:55
SoulBladethough i updated from gutsy because i was having problems w/ the .21 release and tried to do some debugging16:55
MythbuntuGuest44ah ok16:55
MythbuntuGuest44i only read rc *fG*16:55
MythbuntuGuest44sorry16:55
SoulBladesynaptic is a GUI for package management16:55
MythbuntuGuest44ah ok16:55
BobSlobanyone know the best/easiest way to get the remote mapping done16:55
tgm4883_laptopSoulBlade, any changes to your sources.list?16:58
SoulBladei had removed some gutsy repos16:58
SoulBladebut nothing since the update to hardy16:59
tgm4883_laptopcan you pastebin it?16:59
SoulBladeyou want /etc/apt/sources.list right?17:00
tgm4883_laptopyes17:00
SoulBladehttp://pastebin.org/3077417:01
SoulBladedoes it look right?17:03
tgm4883_laptoplooks ok17:04
SoulBladedo i need some lib?17:04
tgm4883_laptopand you do have audio on the system right?17:04
SoulBladeyea - im using mplayer right now no problem17:05
SoulBlademplayer appears to be using alsa based on the output as well17:05
BobSlobor know where i can get premade remote profiles?17:05
tgm4883_laptopsec, let me try some things17:06
lagaBobSlob: mythbuntu-lirc-generator will generate a lircrc based on your lircd.conf. (overwriting your old lircrc)17:10
BobSlobokay... so i need a valid lircd.conf17:11
BobSlobproblem is, i have a mce2005 remote... but theres like 4 different versions17:11
BobSlobso some stuff works... others it says "hahahah yeah right"17:11
tgm4883_laptopBobSlob, which one does it look like http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MCE_Remote17:12
BobSlob3rd one in... version 2, model 103917:13
BobSlobno colored buttons17:13
tgm4883_laptopso it's a phillips?17:13
BobSlobi believe so, yes17:13
tgm4883_laptopshould say on the back17:13
BobSlobjust says "microsoft version 1039"17:14
BobSloberr model17:14
BobSlobi'm still fairly new to linux aswell... thus why i'm so lost17:16
tgm4883_laptopBobSlob, I only see 2 remotes listed in MCC related to the MCE remote17:16
tgm4883_laptopand you should pick the new one17:16
BobSlobyeah, i did during the initial install17:17
BobSloband generated dynamic button mapping17:17
tgm4883_laptopand what happened17:18
BobSlobthe number buttons work great... thats about it17:18
tgm4883_laptopso in other words, the remote works fine, it's the button mapping that is screwed up?17:19
SoulBladecan i look for any symbols in the binaries to make sure i have alsa?17:20
BobSlobyeah... and i wanted to know an easy way to fix it =D17:20
tgm4883_laptopSoulBlade, is it just live tv, or recorded content too17:22
SoulBladelemme check17:22
BobSlobalso, another thing i cant figure out... when i load up the guide and actually "click" on the show i wanna watch, it will only ever give me recording options, nothing about switching to that channel17:23
SoulBladesame deal w/ recorded shows17:23
SoulBladeand those are shows i recorded when i had gutsy working w/ .20 that i know had audio17:24
SoulBladeproblem solved - change audo to /dev/dsp17:25
lagathat's not a solved problem17:25
SoulBladehehe17:26
lagathaT's a bad workaround ;)17:26
SoulBladeyea thats a workaround17:26
SoulBladewhy is it bad17:27
tgm4883_laptopSoulBlade, x86_64?17:27
lagabecause using the OSS devices will often block your sound card for other apps17:27
SoulBlademine was set on ALSA:default17:27
SoulBladex8617:27
SoulBladedual p3 800 babbbyyy haha17:28
SoulBladeso old17:28

famicomand surround speakers17:28
famicomanyone got any reccomendations17:28
lagame too.17:29
lagabut i'll likely get a stereo setup, a few hundred bucks don't buy you a great 5.1 setup ;)17:29
SoulBladeive always liked klipsch17:29
SoulBladebut dont know what their latest offerings are17:29
lagaSoulBlade: can you run ldd `which mythfrontend`17:31
lagaand pastebin that17:31
SoulBladenot a dynamic executable17:32
SoulBladeand which says its using the one in /usr/bin17:32
lagaoops.17:32
lagaSoulBlade: can you run ldd `which mythfrontend.real`17:32
SoulBladeah yes thats a bit longer.. one sec17:33
BobSlobhow do i switch to a channel from the guide itself? it just keeps giving me recording options17:33
lagaBobSlob: you can enable a setting somewhere AFAIK17:33

MythbuntuGuest65anyone here help with a 8.04 rc install problem ?18:57
laga!ask18:59
ubotuPlease don't ask to ask a question, ask the question (all on ONE line, so others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely answer. :-)18:59
MythbuntuGuest65ok, installing 8.04rc and getting enter your password to perform admin tasks dialog. It seems to want an existing password on a fresh install ?19:00
MythbuntuGuest65when i enter a password it tells me i have it wrong19:00
lagaMythbuntuGuest65: where and when does that happen?19:00
SoulBladeempty password?19:01
MythbuntuGuest65after boothing from CD19:01
MythbuntuGuest65or after clincking on the install mybuntu icon19:01
lagaMythbuntuGuest65: and when does it want the password?19:01
lagahum19:01
lagainteresting19:01
lagasuperm1: ^^19:01
MythbuntuGuest65blank password no good19:02
MythbuntuGuest65no error with blank - dialog disappears but no progress to install either19:02
MythbuntuGuest65wonder is it picking something up from previous install on disk19:03
MythbuntuGuest65i thought i could just overwrite it19:03
lagaMythbuntuGuest65: okay. so you downloaded the 8.04 RC live disk, put it on a disk, booted from that disk and the first thing it wants is a password?19:03
MythbuntuGuest65thats exactly what im seeing19:04
tgm4883_laptopMythbuntuGuest65, does it make it into the live env?19:04
MythbuntuGuest65previous install of knoppmyth on disk19:04
MythbuntuGuest65yeah it makes it to the black screen with the two icons #1 = livecd frontend #2 = install mythbuntu19:05
tgm4883_laptopso when does it ask for the password?19:06
MythbuntuGuest65after 3rd fail it says "failed to run /usr/bin/ubuiquity 'mythbuntu_ui' as root19:06
MythbuntuGuest65and ends dialog with 'wrong password'19:06
tgm4883_laptop32 or 64 bit?19:07
MythbuntuGuest6532bit - pentium 4 1.7ghz19:08
tgm4883_laptopwhile i'm grabbing the iso, did you verify the md5sum of the iso, and verify the burn?19:10
MythbuntuGuest65nope did not do that but burned at 8x for safety - never had issues before19:11
tgm4883_laptopdid you download via torrent?19:11
MythbuntuGuest65i might try the test media option if this is not a known issue19:11
MythbuntuGuest65no not via torrent19:12
MythbuntuGuest65iso from mythbuntu.org link19:12
tgm4883_laptoptest your media, i'm going to try to reproduce the results in a vm19:12
MythbuntuGuest65ok i think i will test the media - I'm even getting the same dialog on cliucking the live cd icon !19:13
MythbuntuGuest65starting the integrity check now - this may take some time.....19:15
MythbuntuGuest65hmmm -check has just completed - errors found in two files - does not say which19:18
MythbuntuGuest65guess i need to re-download or re-burn19:18
tgm4883_laptopverify your md5sum19:18
tgm4883_laptopon the iso19:18
MythbuntuGuest65whats the easy way to do that ?19:18
tgm4883_laptopdownload the md5sum file off the website19:19
tgm4883_laptopthen in a terminal do19:19
tgm4883_laptopmd5sum -c filename.iso.md5sum19:19
tgm4883_laptopmake sure they are in the same dir19:19
MythbuntuGuest65cd burnt from windows - downloaded md5.exe from softpedia, its verifies ok19:23
MythbuntuGuest65so it must be a dodgy burn19:23
MythbuntuGuest65but this is a weird outcome from a dodgy burn ?19:24
lagayeah..19:25
MythbuntuGuest65gonna try a re-burn see if it helps19:25
MythbuntuGuest65think i will try track at once burn this time - last one was disk at once19:27
MythbuntuGuest65not sure if it makes any diff19:27
tgm4883_laptopcan you burn slower?19:27
tgm4883_laptoplike 4x?19:27
MythbuntuGuest65last burn was at 8x - slowest it would go19:29
tgm4883_laptopk19:29

superm1MythbuntuGuest65, that must be dodgy burn.  i just verified in a virtual machine that behavior doesn't happen to me with the RC 32 bit disk20:08
BobSlobhmm20:31
BobSlobany reason why i'd have "choppy" playback regardless of settings on my mythtv box... c2d 2.13, 2gb ram, 6800gt, 2xmce150?20:31
BobSlobusing the restricted drivers for the 6800gt aswell20:32
BobSlobi've tried the various profiles, from slim to cpu++, even tried making my own20:33

am_dragonAMD64 8.04 (RC) Mythbuntu liveCD20:42
am_dragonInternal Error - Failed to initialize HAL20:46
DarkAnthi, I'm trying to get a svn server running with apache2 and Trac ticketing system on a mythbuntu box. It looks like everything is running, but the problem is that none of the permissions for apache seem to be working. Using a browser I can see the server and go into the Trac, but I'm not challenged with a username/password. I followed this tutorial http://www.subversionary.org/howto/setting-up-a-subversion-server-on-ubuntu-guts20:58
superm1am_dragon, oh no i know what you have going on20:58
superm1am_dragon, its a bug in linux-ubuntu-modules20:58
superm1due to cx88 mess20:59
superm1it will be fixed by final release20:59

am_dragonok so I've got a Kworld 115 card and put a copy of the firmware in /lib/firmware but when I modprobe saa7134 it loads v4l-cx25840.fw, not the dvb-fe-nxt2004.fw it should.22:13
am_dragonAnyone know why it would load the wrong firmware?22:14
lagatry loading saa7134-dvb?22:15
am_dragonsudo modprobe saa7134-dvb?  Yes, then I check the dmesg  and that's where I see the other firmware.22:16
lagaodd.22:17
lagadunno, never used that driver22:17
am_dragonthat's what I thought.22:17
am_dragonMight have to go back to 7.10.22:17
am_dragonworked fine there.22:17
lagamaybe you need to kick into dvb mode, as it's loading a v4l firmware22:18
am_dragonhow would I do that?22:19
lagai dunno22:19
laga:)22:19
am_dragonI thought that what saa7134-dvb did22:19
am_dragonhttp://youtube.com/watch?v=b-yNCqj_MXs22:20

* EvilGuru wonders if the newer 8.04 kernels have better support for Nova-T 500 cards22:58
zabadappEvilGuru: are you thinking of IR or something else?23:01
EvilGuruUSB drop outs, 24-14 (and possibly -15) had bad drop-out problems23:02
zabadappwhat happens when it drops out? i had very few problems with mine ... is 24-14 a revision? how do I know what I have?23:07
EvilGuruWhen it drops out keyboard input becomes sluggish, if not impossible23:07
EvilGuruand dmesg | tail23:07
EvilGuruit populated with DVB IR poll errors23:07
zabadappahh! now that you mention it! i did have a flood of ir-errormessages once ... i have not noticed it since (but it could very well have happened)23:09
EvilGuruThat seems to be caused when the device drops out23:09
EvilGuruIf it was once every couple of months I would be cool with it23:09
zabadappspooky, it was currently happening :) ... but i went to the livingroom and pressed a few buttons on the remote and now it stopped23:11
