=== rhpot1992 is now known as rhpot1991
rhpot1991Tuv0k: ubuntu ffmpeg doesn't have aac, you need the one from medibuntu00:27
jayshottaenvy on mythbuntu is real nice00:38
c3rb3rus5envy... the movie?00:38
jayshottano it gets the Nvidia drivers00:40
c3rb3rus5oh, right00:40
jayshottalets its full screen real clear quality00:40
lagajayshotta: mythbuntu already has the restricted drivers00:41
jayshottaI kno but it doesnt set TV to full sreen either 16:9 or 4:3 enzy sets it to fill the whole screen00:42
lagaah, the drivers are probably outdated then00:44
c3rb3rus5its too bad BT isnt used on the update servers...  i think00:44
jayshottacould be but I rather those drivers00:46
jayshottaOk my mythbuntu is up wat can I do to add this extra drive to it now00:49
c3rb3rus5dumb wuestion... can i upgrade from cd indtead of via synaptic?00:49
lagac3rb3rus5: only from alternate disk. and i don't know. in theory, it's possible, but it was never tried for the mythbuntu disks00:50
c3rb3rus5ok, we'll stay away from that approach then00:50
lagatoo bad, i'd love to hear from someone who tried it :)00:51
c3rb3rus5,aybe i'll be brave... what the hell, right?00:52
c3rb3rus5off to find the alternate install00:52
OpenMediajayshotta: Are you sure it isn't just an xorg.conf or nvidia-settings issue?00:52
lagaOpenMedia: hey steve ;)00:53
OpenMediaHi laga. Hows things.. Keeping busy with 8.04?00:54
lagaOpenMedia: yeah.. release will take another few hours, unfortunately00:54
OpenMediaI'll be at UbuntuLive and OSCON again this year.00:55
OpenMediaGot a speaker slot at OSCON.00:55
laganice00:55
OpenMedia8.04b is running well off a 4G USB stick as root.00:55
laganice00:55
OpenMediaAny of the Dev's going to be a UB Live?00:55
lagaoops, repating myself there00:55
laganot me, but maybe some others00:56
OpenMediasuperm1: is probably too busy with his new job..00:56
tgm4883_laptopI might be there, but just as an attendie00:56
tgm4883_laptopmy loco team is strongly urging me to go00:56
OpenMediatgm4883_laptop: I'm put in a proposal for a Mythtv + Video BOF as part OSCON.00:57
OpenMediasorry s/I'm/I've/00:57
tgm4883_laptopsweet00:57
* tgm4883_laptop forsees an epic dual between UMC and Mythbuntu00:58
tgm4883_laptopthey will make movies out of it00:58
OpenMedialaga: Any last minute niggles with the 8.04 build.00:58
OpenMediatgm4883_laptop: Oh I agree.00:58
lagayeah, like the matrix. only that neo starts spitting python backtraces halfway through the movie00:58
lagaoh, that was mean00:58
lagaOpenMedia: nothing critical i hope :)00:59
tgm4883_laptopbah, i got to stop checking our mirrors every 5 minutes00:59
c3rb3rus5forgive my ignorance... but what is UMC?01:00
tgm4883_laptopUbuntu Media Center01:00
c3rb3rus5never heard of it... interesting01:00
tgm4883_laptopc3rb3rus5, hasn't been released yet01:01
tgm4883_laptopnot sure when it plans on it01:01
tgm4883_laptopbut from what I've read, Ibex +1 maybe?01:01
tgm4883_laptop+1 or +201:01
* tgm4883_laptop could be waaaay offf01:01
c3rb3rus5is it supposed to rival myth and have most of the same functionality?01:03
tgm4883_laptopum01:03
OpenMediaUsing elisa etc01:03
tgm4883_laptopsame functionality, yes01:03
tgm4883_laptoprival myth?01:03
OpenMediaI was talking to Malcolm about it at UBLive last year01:03
c3rb3rus5well... alternative to01:03
tgm4883_laptopthey did look at using mythtv (or mythbuntu) but IIRC went with elisa because It was python01:04
OpenMediaCatch you later.. Gotta make our young one some lunch01:05
c3rb3rus5i see01:05
superm1OpenMedia, oh?01:05
superm1proposal?01:05
superm1accepted?01:05
jayshottaCan anyone help me add a 250GB hdd to my Mythbuntu 8.04 for extra storage01:06
jayshottaIm ripping all my dvd's to mythbuntu each take bout 3hrs but ima need more space01:08
pdragonalready have it plugged in?01:08
LeeSharpjayshotta:  How did you set up your disk originally?  (LVM perhaps?)01:08
jayshottaOne sata standard install the second drive is ditached01:10
jayshottadetached01:10
LeeSharpHow big is drive one?  How much is on your data directory?01:11
lagaLeeSharp: i think he just wants storage groups, nothing fancy01:11
jayshottaIts a fresh install 2x 250SATA drives01:11
pdragonmay not even need a storage group if he's just using it for DVD ripping01:12
pdragongoing to be recording anything besides DVDs to this drive or just ripping DVDs?01:12
LeeSharpIck...  If it is very fresh, I would reinstall LVM to use both drives as a single filesystem.  But I may be overshooting the mark.  What are you trying to do?  Is your system "full" and you need more space?01:13
jayshottajsu ripping DVD01:13
jayshottaI archive my shows n delete them after a while01:14
pdragonno need to overcomplicate with LVM then if it's already installed and working01:14
lagathere is no need for LVM01:14
LeeSharpIn that cast, fire up gparted and format it, and mount it in /mnt with user permissions.01:14
tgm4883_laptopjayshotta, IMO, you should do storage groups, then stick your dvd's on the second drive01:14
LeeSharpIn that case...01:14
c3rb3rus5fetching file 1 of 784.... this might take a while01:15
jayshottaI will do g parted and format n mount01:16
pdragonjayshotta: install gparted with synaptic and then start it up to format it. I'd recommend XFS since there will be large file sizes01:16
jayshottawhat does storage group do ?01:16
pdragondo you need a storage group for the DVD ripper?01:16
pdragoni thought it was just a folder path01:16
jayshottaI jus want to have enough space to have all my DVD's01:17
jayshottawatever is easiest n simplest01:17
jayshottanow I have a fresh 250 and an unformated 250 in system01:17
pdragonok. just start up gparted and format the unformated one with XFS and make a folder you'd like to mount it to01:18
pdragonmaking the folder in their your home folder or the /opt directory would probably be a good place01:18
LeeSharpc3rb3rus5: debtorrent FTW.  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributedPackageManagement01:18
pdragonin your home folder i mean01:18
jayshottaok so /home/movies will do01:19
pdragonwell, in your user home folder i mean01:19
pdragon/home/username/movies01:20
jayshottayeah01:20
jayshottaso when current 250 is full how do I direct myth to  change to /home/username/movies to collect new movies so they are visible in Media library01:22
pdragonhmm... i haven't ripped dvds in a while. anyone else know if it's the Archive File Settings path he'd want to set as that location?01:22
c3rb3rus5so if i do an upgrade over the network will it be pulling anything differently then if i do it via the alternate install cd?01:23
MythbuntuGuest49when does the new release emerge?! :)01:24
pdragoncan set the folder for Video files by going to Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Video Settings01:24
jayshottaIf LVM is less comlicated I am willing to try01:24
pdragon-> General Settings01:24
jayshottaooh ok01:24
jayshottathank you so library will still see both sources of video file storage01:25
pdragonso, you could actually do one of two things... you could mount the directory it's set to by default to your new drive01:25
pdragonor you can set that folder to your custom location01:25
pdragonno, it only sees one folder for video files01:25
jayshottathats wat i wanted to avoid I wanted when one 250 is fill to shift to the other so LVM sounds like only option to have one large drive01:27
pdragonyeah, if you want one large drive, then you would need to do LVM01:27
jayshottaHow would i go that route01:27
jayshottaI do have the alternate CD01:28
pdragonpersonally, i have one hard drive for LiveTV & Recording and a second drive for everything else01:28
pdragoni'm not sure how to do LVM myself, i've never done it01:28
jayshottaYour setup is kings wat Im goin for01:28
jayshottabut 250 with movies get filled quick really fast01:28
pdragonyes it would. I have a 750GB for my second drive01:29
jayshottabout 1-2 gigs per movie01:29
pdragona 250 for my main01:29
jayshottanot a bad Idea I might just go your route get a 750 myself and mount it then just transfer movie files over01:30
pdragonmight as well go for a 1TB :)01:30
jayshottaI kno rite01:30
c3rb3rus5hell, just buy a gigabit NAS and load it up with a few TB drives :-p01:30
jayshottathe method you proposed is that your current config01:31
jayshottaI have a 500GB nad but cannot get MYTH to see it01:31
jayshottaits running freenas01:31
c3rb3rus5wow.... the upgrade is downloading at 600 b/s01:32
c3rb3rus5that is like 9 days to complete01:32
npurcifulserver are jamed01:32
c3rb3rus5i'm burning the alternate install disk01:32

c3rb3rus5gonna update from that01:32
npurcifulit has been the sam for about 3 days now the Alt ISO01:33
jayshottaprices are not bad01:33
c3rb3rus5does that mean that its not a smart idea?  maybe upgrade another time?01:34
jayshottaServers are gonna be like that for atleast 3 days01:34
c3rb3rus5after tonight, i wont have a chance to upgrade till at least mon01:34
npurcifulno it mean if you have a Alternate ISO and i was updated less than 3 days ago then i is probly the same01:35
c3rb3rus5i just got it tonight01:35
c3rb3rus5so i would hope01:35

npurcifulhow long ago did you get it01:38
c3rb3rus5less then an hour01:38
npurcifulyou downloaded it less than a hour ago?01:39
c3rb3rus5yea01:40
npurcifulhere check the md5sum 7d0ac92c56361949d099dd9337c975e7 *ubuntu-8.04-alternate-amd64.iso01:41
npurcifulif it is the same upgrade from it01:41
npurcifulmd5sum <isoimage>01:42
c3rb3rus5does that work in win?01:42
npurcifulno01:42
bazzawillwhen is mythbuntu 8.10 scheduled/likely for release??01:42

c3rb3rus5looking now01:43
pdragonshould be in the next day or so01:43
bazzawillcool thanks01:43
c3rb3rus5so is upgrading a mythbuntu install using an alternate 8.04 image gonna screw things up... maybe i should ask that before going forward01:44
npurcifulc3rb3rus5:  http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/01:44
c3rb3rus5ok01:45
c3rb3rus5ye the hash checks out ok01:45
npurcifulhttp://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading01:45
npurcifulgoto: Upgrading using the alternate CD/DVD01:45
c3rb3rus5that is not gonna trash a mythbuntu install though... right?  basically i dont wanna end up losing mythtv01:45
pdragoni'd wait... it won't be that long :p01:46
c3rb3rus5haha01:46
c3rb3rus5maybe its for the best01:46
npurcifulokay01:47
npurcifulwell you know01:47
c3rb3rus5my luck and previous track records with everything mythtv suggest that doing anything out of the ordinary will be catastrophic01:48
npurcifulheh, i have been running the alpha and beta then rc's it has been a bummping ride, the price i pay for cutting edge01:49
npurcifuli dump my database every hour in cause for failer01:49
npurcifulfailure01:49
pdragonyeah, my upgrade from 7.10 to alpha didn't go super smooth. backend kept crashing. so, installed beta on a second harddrive to test things then reloading final from scratch on my original drive01:50
pdragongot a brand new box for my backend, so it's a good time to reload anyway :)01:50
npurcifulyeah done that too01:50
pdragonyeesh... 5684 seeders for 8.04 desktop01:51
pdragonwoop... 4332... refresh was turned off. still, lotta people :)01:53
c3rb3rus5i am currenly using a firewire card, as unput 3... i originally configured my kworld card as input 1, and firewire before i upgraded to .21 as input 201:57
c3rb3rus5i dont use the card anymore (analog sounds like chipmonks)01:58
c3rb3rus5so i have only one tuner as card 301:58
c3rb3rus5also, mytharchive refuses to work when i try to export tv to dvd...01:59
c3rb3rus5i'm thinkin a fresh reinstall might clear up some other issues too01:59
npurcifulc3rb3rus5: sound like your audio setting is off if it sound like the chipmonks01:59
c3rb3rus5i was playing around with it for a good while01:59
c3rb3rus5i finally gave up01:59
c3rb3rus5haha01:59
c3rb3rus5every once in a while firewire just stops working... although i think i found out how to solve that issue02:00
npurcifulthere are setting in "capture card' in backend and settings in 'Recording profiles'02:00
c3rb3rus5its very finicky :-p02:00
pdragoni'm just glad i figured out how to get my spdif working on the new soundcard i got. woo for real surround sound now! :D02:00
c3rb3rus5haha, nice02:00
pdragonhttp://www.razerzone.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4102:01
npurcifulmy was to and i had to got to each profile and hit enter though all the screens to get it to stop02:01
pdragongot one of those for $49 off woot.com02:01
c3rb3rus5npurciful: you had chipmunk sound too?02:01
npurcifulyeah02:01
npurcifuli have 4tuners02:02
c3rb3rus5its like the audio is timescaled and stutters02:02
c3rb3rus5so its chipmunks stutter, chipmunks, etc02:02
npurcifulthat is sweet video and audio?02:03
c3rb3rus5but since i have firewire working great, i guess i can't complain02:03
c3rb3rus5yeam the vid and audio would stutter a little02:03
c3rb3rus5s/yeam/yea,02:03
npurcifulc3rb3rus5: i spent days getting thing to work, i was about to shoot myself in the foot then it started working02:04
c3rb3rus5haha02:04
c3rb3rus5i bought the system feb of last year02:04
pdragonyeah, i tried getting that sound card to work on 7.10 without much luck02:04
c3rb3rus5put it together, had a hell of a time getting things to work02:04
pdragonworks right out of the box in 8.04 :D02:04
npurcifulso naturely i had to break it to fix it again02:04
c3rb3rus5then firewire stopped working02:04
c3rb3rus5and the system was dead02:04
c3rb3rus5well02:04
c3rb3rus5more or less02:04
c3rb3rus5the card was not working, there is no fclear qam around here02:05
c3rb3rus5so it sat for months02:05
c3rb3rus5and then i tried it one day and the firewire gods were smiling upon me02:05
c3rb3rus5i think overall i have installed about 15 different times altogether...resorted to trying vista mce once, and sage tv02:06
c3rb3rus5maybe more then 1502:06
c3rb3rus5its been painful02:06
c3rb3rus5haha02:06
npurcifulheh, becomes easier02:06
c3rb3rus5npurciful: yea.. once it works... i wanna bgreak things again.  never happy02:06
npurcifulah, i back02:12
npurcifuli was checking out the AC-1 Gaming card02:13
c3rb3rus5whats that?02:13
pdragonthe one i linked02:13
c3rb3rus5right02:13
pdragonfantastic sound!02:14
pdragonput in Star Wars Ep 2 to test it out02:14
c3rb3rus5honestly, i never really noticed a difference between decent onboard sound and a soundcard...02:14
c3rb3rus5then again i dont have surround speakers..02:14
pdragonthe optical surely helps02:15
npurcifulyeah i love my Audigy Platium cost me 329.99 like 6 years ago02:15
pdragonyeah i have it hooked up to a 5.1 receiver02:16
npurcifulyeah all sound goes though my 5.1 sound system02:16
npurcifulAC-1 looks like a emu10k1 chip02:18
pdragonthat card definitely ain't worth full retail, but $49 was hard to pass up02:18
pdragonno, C-media02:18
pdragonsec02:18
npurcifulyeah that is a steel02:18
pdragon C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]02:18
pdragonwoot.com is an awesome website if you've never checked it out02:20
pdragonthey sell one item every day. cheap but really really good stuff sometimes02:20
pdragonsometimes they're the first place to sell it too02:20
c3rb3rus5bag of crap02:21
pdragonhehe yeah02:21
npurcifulhuh never hurd of them02:22
pdragonthe woot off's rule. 24-72 hours of non-stop sales. soon as the item is sold out another item goes up02:23
pdragongood things are gone in seconds02:23
npurcifulcrazy i guess it works for them02:25
npurcifulwell i think i am going to watch some tv02:29
npurcifullater02:29
pdragonnew Lost!02:38
OpenMediasuperm1: Still around?02:57
darthanubisrhpot1991, yo04:01
LeeSharpAnyone know why users-admin won't unlock on a new Hardy alt-install?04:13
shiznois 8.04 RC the new hotness or is an official 8.04 mythbuntu going to be released later?04:28
pdragonfinal will be released04:34
rhpot1991darthanubis: whats up?05:19
rhpot1991you see what I said about ffmpeg before?05:19
james_hi06:11
james_anyone here got a kworld atsc 110?06:14
darthanubisrhpot1991, you get my email?07:05
darthanubisbug #636607:05
darthanubisLaunchpad bug 6366 in ffmpeg "Please enable AAC Support in ffmpeg" [Wishlist,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/636607:06
rhpot1991darthanubis: ffmpeg in ubuntu doesn't have aac enabled07:07
rhpot1991you need medibuntu ffmpeg for that07:07
rhpot1991and it should work fine then07:07
darthanubisno it does not07:08
darthanubisthats what I had installe07:08
darthanubisddid you even look at the email07:08
darthanubisthe bug report?07:08
rhpot1991yes07:08
darthanubisthe script has a type07:08
darthanubistypo07:08
rhpot1991no it doesn't07:08
darthanubis"aac" "libfaac"07:08
darthanubisgeez07:09
rhpot1991aac is correct07:09
* rhpot1991 just used it 2 minutes ago07:09
rhpot1991one of them is an older way of doing it, so either the mythbuntu is behind or yours is behind07:09
darthanubisI'm telling you what happened with the package on this system07:09
darthanubisyou saw which package I was using07:09
rhpot1991either way mine works the medibuntu07:09
darthanubisthats an unacceptable reply07:12
darthanubiswhat about the documented evidence?07:12
rhpot1991in the forums where it works for lots of people07:12
rhpot1991as well as people I've spoken with on here07:13
darthanubis"Works for me" does not mean it is ok.07:13
rhpot1991and works for me myself07:13
rhpot1991well I told you I never used nuv or tested them07:13
rhpot1991so I don't know what else you want me to say about that07:13
darthanubisit wwas broke for mpg as well07:13
darthanubisFFmpeg version SVN-rUNKNOWN, Copyright (c) 2000-2007 Fabrice Bellard, et al07:14
rhpot1991in all honesty, you are the first person I have heard any problems from other than permission issues07:14
darthanubisthats the mediabuntu ffmpeg07:14
darthanubiswe agreed yesterday we had the same package07:14
darthanubisthere was 3 other bug reports that says I was not the only one07:15
rhpot1991dpkg -l ffmpeg | grep ^ii07:15
rhpot1991seriously you aren't listening to me07:15
rhpot1991ubuntu ffmpeg doesn't have aac07:15
rhpot1991medibuntu does07:15
rhpot1991so use that07:15
darthanubisyuor not listening07:16
darthanubiswe did this yesterday07:16
darthanubisI toldd you I had the mediabuntu ffmpeg07:16
darthanubisyou checked and said "good", you don't remeber?07:16
rhpot1991if that is the case then its a whole nother issue07:17
darthanubisI have one I compiled installed now07:17
rhpot1991I don't remember what all we checked, its been a lot of stuff07:17
darthanubisthats why we go in circles07:17
darthanubisand thats why I documented it for you07:17
darthanubisyou keep telling me to use a pcakage that never works for me07:18
rhpot1991just use that if it fixes the problem, this isn't something I can change since I can't modify medibuntu and aac can't be included on the ubuntu variation07:18
darthanubisits called libfaac07:18
darthanubisthats why07:18
rhpot1991yes I am well aware of that07:18
darthanubislook at the report please07:18
rhpot1991--enable-libfaac07:18
rhpot1991its included in medibuntu07:18
rhpot1991I have looked at it07:18
rhpot1991you aren't telling me anything new07:19
darthanubishttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythexport/+bug/221053/comments/107:19
darthanubisdid you see that?07:19
darthanubisand the difference in the two07:19
rhpot19912. There is no "libfaac" support compiled into mediabuntu's ffmpeg. Thus07:19
rhpot1991resulting in the file error.07:19
rhpot1991that is wrong07:19
darthanubisand while I'm using a ffmpeg, that works for me07:19
darthanubisyour script still does not call ffmpeg and start07:20
PlaneRacerhi all07:20
darthanubiseven after I changed all "aac" to "libfaac"07:20
darthanubisif you could share with me how your script calls ffmpeg, I can fix it myself07:21
PlaneRaceris myth supports nexus-s cards?07:21
rhpot1991its just a perl script so you can modify it yourself07:21
darthanubisnot listenig again07:22
darthanubisI did07:22
darthanubisif you could share with me how your script calls ffmpeg, I can fix it myself07:22
rhpot1991(2:21:56 AM) rhpot1991: its just a perl script so you can modify it yourself07:23
darthanubisat the end of the script its supposed to call ffmpeg to start the job07:23
darthanubiswhy are you being so crass about this?07:23
rhpot1991look at the code, it stores commands to run along the way07:23
rhpot1991and runs them at the end07:23
rhpot1991are you amd64 or i386?07:24
rhpot1991and did you verify that ffmpeg did not have libaac installed on your medibuntu package?07:25
darthanubisamd6407:26
darthanubisand of course I did07:26
rhpot1991as am I and I can tell you that it has aac support07:26
rhpot1991and is called correctly with -acodec aac07:26
darthanubisthats what the bug report is all about07:26
rhpot1991you are filing a bug that doesn't make sense, as it works, so you have some other issue07:27
darthanubisbuilt on Mar 12 2008 15:36:03, gcc: 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu4)07:27

darthanubis  Duration: 34:48:29.08, start: 0.400000, bitrate: 127 kb/s07:27
darthanubisonly issue I have is the maintainer of the script does not want to acknowldge my bug07:29
rhpot1991darthanubis: could be another issue with ffmpeg, and sadly I don't maintain that so I couldn't really tell you what the problem is there07:29
rhpot1991cause its not a bug with my script07:29
rhpot1991its either a ffmpeg bug or a problem with your video files07:29
rhpot1991and you are here pointing the finger at me07:29
darthanubisthats why its filed as a ffmpeg bug07:29
darthanubisthat affects other programs that use ffmpeg07:30
darthanubisas the other bugs clearly state07:30
rhpot1991well you wont get aac in ubuntu07:30
rhpot1991thats why you need to go to medibuntu07:30
darthanubisif you were to busy to read the duplicates07:31
rhpot1991which I have stated before07:31
rhpot1991I looked at it, and I know it wont happen07:31
darthanubisthats why I did, and thats how all this started07:31
darthanubisyet you continue to repeat that?07:31
rhpot1991as you continue to ask for a feature that cannot be added to ubuntu07:31
rhpot1991licensing forbids it07:31
darthanubisforbids libfaac?07:32
darthanubisno aac07:32
darthanubislibfaac does the samething07:32
darthanubisand is gpl07:32
darthanubisubuntu can't add that?07:32
rhpot1991my understanding was no, you wont get x264 either I don't think07:33
rhpot1991darthanubis: Unknown codec 'libfaac'07:36
rhpot19913:0.cvs20070307-5ubuntu7+medibuntu107:36
iamlindoro_-acodec aac and -acodec libfaac call the same library in ffmpeg.  It is only a matter of acodec naming format changes that happened recently.  -acodec aac us the old style, -acodec libfaac is the new style.  Change occurred about six months ago.  libfaac support won't be added to Ubuntu ffmpeg for the same reason that mp3 support won't be, it's patent encumbered.07:36
rhpot1991thank you iamlindoro_07:37
iamlindoro_no problem07:37
hansoffatehi07:37
hansoffateif i'm using 7.10, should i upgrade to 8.04?07:38
iamlindoro_anyway, just so you know it's neither your scripts fault nor a bug with ffmpeg, just a version mismatch07:38
iamlindoro_off to bed07:38
hansoffatei haven't been to the mythbuntu webpage in a while.  I really like the new theme.07:39
rhpot1991iamlindoro_: thats what I have been trying to explain that by using non ubuntu ffmpeg they might not match up, and I can't change anything cause it would then break for the fully ubuntu users07:39
hansoffatei haven't upgraded anything since i configured my pvr07:39
darthanubisI'm going to purge ffmpeg and mythexport and start over, is there a way to purge ffmpeg without dismantling the system?07:43
darthanubisiamlindoro_, thanks for that info07:43
rhpot1991darthanubis: easiest way is to do complete remove from synaptic07:45
rhpot1991or dpkg --purge07:45
darthanubisit wants to tear down the system that way07:45
darthanubiswas the cmd to ignore dependencies?07:46
darthanubisnvm07:47
hansoffatei got a question08:00
hansoffatecan I just swap out my video card if I want to upgrade it?08:01

elliot42Hi everyone, I've just installed mythbuntu 8.04 and am trying to set up lirc, but could someone please explain what the heck dkms is and why it's trying to build my modules for me??13:26
TranceDudehi13:27
TranceDudeis there a shipit website for mythbuntu 8.04?13:27
TranceDudecan anybody help me please?13:27
elliot42if there isn't yet, there will be13:28
TranceDudebut is there one now or not?13:28

elliot42i don't know, but i'm having a look now13:29
lagaTranceDude: there wont be one.13:29
lagaelliot42: you've probably installed lirc-modules-source13:29
lagaelliot42: which uses dkms to build kernel modules13:29
lagaif you dont want it, remove lirc-modules-source13:29
elliot42but what is dkms?13:30
lagatry google ;) i've never used it13:30
lagait's an automagic framework to build kernel modules if necessary13:30
elliot42hmm... k13:30
elliot42i don't mind if it builds my modules... but I'd like to configure them first =p13:31
lagaelliot42: the modules already come with the ubuntu kernel13:32

keesMythbuntuGuest07: I don't know any more than what's there.  That works for my ati-based laptop for getting S-video working.  I would recommend opening a but against xserver-xorg-video-ati, and include your xorg.conf, file /var/log/X*0.log file, and output of "xrandr"22:49
