[00:27] and secured mythweb! yihaa! [00:27] cya alll! [01:29] greets. we are planning to build a mythbox shortly, and were considering the pcHD-5500 card. We have Comcast cable in middle Tennessee. Anyone know how this card works on comcast cable? We don't subscribe to any premium channels (it's for the internet), but I am also curious about options with encrypted channels (if thats how it works) [01:30] with a mythbox though we may try the a premium movie channel so we can make the best use of it [01:34] hello. I have a mplayer question.. on DVD playback I have audio, but I do not have video. Instead I get a scrambled pinkish image. Can anyone offer advice? [01:35] mojo, hello. i live in east-TN, also have comcast. I dont know for sure, but I believe you will have to have a box from comcast to decrypt their premium channels. [01:36] mojo, however, with their standard package you get the network channels and a few others. [01:36] then i take it's feed into the card? [01:36] what ever happened to cablecard for descrambling them? [01:36] ahave: we have the standard package. fixing to build a mythbox and looking at the pcHD-5500 [01:37] but we may want premium channel or two once it's set up [01:37] well i am searching the mythtv wiki and the ubuntu-mythtv channle [01:38] wish me luck [01:41] okay... i am finding that there are no cablecard options... ah well, standard channels are fine. just hoping for options. [01:42] thanks anyways [01:43] sorry, mojo. laptop cut out on me [01:44] np [01:45] i am finding some answers... no joy for cablecard on linux, and ati has the only option but its windows only. apparently CableCard people won't cert. stuff that isn't closed so they can "protect" the content stream. silly drm-ologists. [01:45] but it looks like nJoy+1 for unencrypted streams ATSC/QAM [01:45] at least i think so [01:46] my brother is having a birthday and has been building a box to make a myth back end; we wanted to get him this card if we can [01:47] i am using just using the hdhomerun dual network tuner.. seems to work 'ok' so far. really havent gotten around to using it yet [02:09] every now and then, when booting up multiple instances of mythtvfront end will load.. ranging from 3 to 7 or so [02:10] has anyone experienced this? [02:15] has anyone had a problem mounting a mythbuntu samba share? [02:18] I can mount graphically in ubuntu [02:19] but when I try to add it to fstab it just says it can't find it [02:20] Can anyone recommend a linux program to remaster DVD's like DVD Shrink? [02:27] can anyone help me get going in the right direction with configuring my remote? [02:27] I have the lirc config file for my remote [02:27] and a homemode serial rx that worked on my previous installation [02:27] any experience with a windows front end? we will run a myth back-end over gig network (we wired the house & built a gig switch/server with the cable internet hung off a 10Mbps card). I run a linux desktop and we will prob. build a linux myth front end for the living room. but my housemates have windows desktops... can they view mythtv content or is there some streaming option? [02:28] q_a_z_steve: . i have dv9to5 i think but have not tested it yet. there is also k9copy [02:28] mojo: that seems more to do automatic stuff, I want to remove special features and that, maybe even have no menu, just to preserve quality. [02:29] you want a dvdshrink on windows clone. i have heard you can run dvdsrhink under wine. [02:34] Is there any known issues with trying to mount mythbuntu 8.04 in linux? [02:36] i am trying to setup DVD playback. and i get this error: http://www.rafb.net/p/kisM8w30.html [02:36] I setup a link from /dvd/cdrom to /dev/dvd [02:54] help??????? setting up remote === MythbuntuGuest39 is now known as NWolf [03:08] I was wondering if anyone can help me with IR remote on Mythubuntu 8.04. I am going to try changing the quick channel thing that you told me yesterday on the backend configuration to see if that helps [12:06] hi [12:08] i get this, if i try to start mythtv [12:08] http://pastebin.ca/1004847 [12:08] anyone has expirience with this ( mythbuntu 8.04 ) [12:09] life tv even not working if i try it with kaffeine [12:09] kaffeine just crashes if i try to watch an channel [12:12] anyone got time to give us a hand with an IR device? [12:29] so.. i have upgraded to mythbuntu 8.10 from 7.10 and now my system wont boot. Seems like it's trying to boot from sda now.. i dont have sda.. it should be sda [12:29] hda i mean [12:30] then fix your fstab ;) [12:30] so. i do get to some terminal... if i type "Reboot" my system boots [12:30] well.. my fstab is unchanged [12:31] it wanted to change my uuid's in menu.lst when upgrading.. i have changed the sys-disk before and had to change my uuids in menu.lst and fstab [12:32] Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 39 bytes) in /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/includes/utils.php on line 353 [12:32] fsck.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hdc1 [12:33] my disks seems to have changed to sda sdb and sdc now! [12:34] Nikas kernals do that sometimes [12:34] so.. where do i need to change stuff? [12:34] fstab only? [12:34] yea [12:35] read up on e2label and you can label the drives then it doesnt matter [12:35] the system boots when i type "reboot" ;) the computer does not reboot ;) [12:36] there was a good cartoon called reboot [12:37] i always use shutdown -r now or shutdown -h now [12:37] :) [12:38] go figure having a command as obvious as reboot lol [12:38] hmm.. how can i see my disks and the names for them? [12:39] e2label [12:39] man e2label [12:39] e2label will display or change the filesystem label on the ext2 filesystem located on device. [12:39] i have sda sda1 sda2 sdb sdb1. need to know what disk they point too [12:40] then in fstab use something like LABEL=boot [12:40] ah [12:40] instead of the /dev/hda or /dev/sda [12:42] the shutdown-commands does boot mythbuntu ;) [12:43] so for example label your boot partition " e2label /dev/sda1 boot " then in fstab LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 1 [12:43] great [12:43] thanks¨ [12:43] use man if you want to know about a command [12:53] you can always find out about commands from man if only women would realise that [12:54] ok well im getting bored here no one knows why mythweb video is broken so i may play games for a bit then bed [14:49] what card can I get for my mythtv server that will allow me to decode Canadian digital cable [14:49] its running Ubuntu [14:58] so.. i upgraded from 7.10 from 8.04 [14:58] now.. my server hard locks.. works for some time and then dies [14:59] no ssh-access.. i need to go down to my server in the cellar to hard reset. [14:59] where do i start? [15:00] can you ping your server? [15:00] nope [15:00] when its up and running do a constant ping .. then see if there's moment where its down [15:00] had this problem with alpha 1.. the server does not respons when moving the mouse and stuff [15:00] there should be like < 3ms delays [15:01] responde* [15:03] so.. had to press reset [15:05] i had no problems what so ever with 7.10 [15:06] what logs should i check? [15:06] nothing in messages [15:07] nothing strange [15:07] well.. this is new: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/9485/ [15:10] i dont want to change back to 7.10. i have backup so if i cant solve it i have to [15:18] Is there any solution to the extremely slow channel change problem in mythbuntu 8.04? [15:20] I know how to solve hardlocks with windows.. but. .. linux.. i'm lost.. and it sucks [15:26] haven't tried any of this in windows... all i know is I thought my stb changed channels slowly, but this is ridiculous. [15:35] hehe my changes takes about 10 sec [15:36] same here... its abysmal. [15:37] it should take like 2 seconds max. [15:43] any FAT client experts in the house? Got some small install questions .. [15:43] I've followed the instructions @ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/OnNFSDriveWithLocalBoot in order to get my frontends fired up without hard drives [15:44] it works like a champ using the mini-cd install for 8.04 LTS .. I have 2GB CF to IDE adapters and voila .. super silent front ends running pretty quick. [15:44] so then I boot to the system, log in and run "sudo apt-get install mythbuntu-desktop" [15:45] before this point, all I have is a CLI .. no Xorg or anything else .. really small install. My goal is to install ONLY that which mythbuntu needs to function, and not a piece of code more. [15:46] so as usual with ubuntu stuff .. it just works .. goes out, pulls down the dependencies and installs everything .. I think like 300 packages .. [15:46] I then reboot, it boots to NFS like it should, starts up mythbuntu splash, and I get the login. [15:47] I'm able to configure and utilize the nvidia proprietary with no trouble at all .. this pleases me greatly [15:47] also able to connect the front end successfully with the remote back end. good stuff [15:47] hi [15:48] but for some reason I have no sound. .. none .. nada .. zilch [15:48] * Penfold waits for the proverbioal other shoe to drop ;) [15:48] * laga wonders why sabhain just didn't use the dskless clients stuff in 8.04 ;) [15:49] didn't use diskless because I have varying hardware and am doing a few other things with the systems down the road [15:49] ah [15:49] sabhain: pulseaudio? [15:49] Keithamus, is that what I need to install? [15:50] I installed the gnome-alsa thing just to see what was up, and it did correctly identify my sound device (realtek-AC888), and gave me all the controls .. but nothing [15:51] weird thing in the mixer was that the master & pcm controls were upside down [15:52] I'll check the pulseaudio status when I get back there for lunch .. perhaps it's not a mythbuntu dependency [15:56] Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 39 bytes) in /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/includes/utils.php on line 353 [15:56] :( [15:56] baalsgate: is there anything in the mythtv/apache logs? [15:56] where do i find that ? [15:57] baalsgate: /var/log/mythtv/ and /var/log/apache* [16:01] i am not seeing any errors [16:03] im going to try a different browser [16:03] no same problem [16:04] i wonder could it be a permission issue ? [16:05] what's happening, baalsgate? [16:06] mythweb is giving me a php out of memory error for video section after upgrading to 21 [16:06] Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16 bytes) in /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/objects/Video.php on line 74 [16:08] oh, well, I'll try searching google, otherwise I don't know [16:08] have googled does not seem typical so must be something it does not like with my config [16:10] have you customized the mythweb plugin? Also, it's possible, the plugin did not update when you updated mythtv [16:32] hmmm interesting i made a new video directory an put only a a few videos in it , now it works [16:32] so at some point the number of videos max's out the php [16:33] ive only got a few hundred videos [16:33] "only", heh [16:34] yea lots of episodes of different cartoons etc [16:35] sounds like an interesting bug, though [16:36] yea i didnt think i had that much in there maybe its the odd different video format like ram files ect [16:37] I thought it would just ignore stuff it doesn't know about [16:39] yea maybe i will keep moving stuff to the new directory see if it breaks again [16:40] that's probably the best way to isolate the problem [16:44] hows this imdb thing try to work [16:47] bummer they did not implement the video streem on the video section [17:13] sabhain: sorry for the long delay - but yeah, 8.04 uses pulseaudio as its sound backend, so give it a try. [17:45] does anyone have any problems with mkv audio streams in mythvideo? [18:06] anybody have any issues with the nvidia driver in 8.04? When I have it enabled, I can't get mythfrontend to run [18:08] works for me [18:19] where are the config files for mythweb? its complaining that I havent set it up properly. [18:20] if you have a commadline or console, try dpkg-reconfigure mythweb [18:20] /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/mythweb.conf [18:20] ooops, sudo before that [18:21] thanks [18:23] bah [18:23] the correct login info for the mythtv db is in ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt right? [18:23] config.xml [18:23] mysql.txt is deprecated [18:24] whats the command to delete all channels from mythconverg channel table in mysql? [18:27] http://www.mail-archive.com/mythtv-users@mythtv.org/msg39208.html [18:27] both settings are identical and its still complaining [18:28] thanks iamlindoro_ [18:29] the password is stored as plaintext for both right? [18:29] yes [18:29] any ideas then? [18:30] check everything else. hostname/IP, db user, etc. Those should be identical to your config.xml as well. [18:30] do I need to restart apache? [18:31] Could be [18:31] ok that explains it, sorry my bad [18:32] also, I get an error saying that mythtv failed to mount /dev/sdb every time i run the frontend. do you know anything about that? [18:33] you'd need to look into what sdb is on your system [18:34] what plugin says that? If it's mythgallery, it's probably a card reader [18:35] hi guys need a bit of help mplayer plays all my files fine through normal point and click but when i try and loads some of them through myth tv it just goes back to movie info [18:36] it is when i am trying to play high def 264 mkv's mostly [18:36] but depends on what codec they were encoded in also need it to play them in x11 instead of open gl [18:40] Keithamus: pulse audio was not installed by mythbuntu-desktop, so I installed it .. it brought with it some dependencies, but it still doesn't help. I did find that I was unable to start the ALSA service in the GUI services app [18:40] but I thought that didn't matter now that 8.04 is on pulse [18:41] I'm really confused and feel like I'm grasping at straws here to get sound up and running. I was trying to avoid doing a full 8.04 LTS install before mythbuntu .. [18:42] since I only want mythbuntu running .. but how can it not install audio services??? :( [18:43] sabhain, what is problem [18:45] is it in mythbuntu player or in mplayer directly u are having sound problems [18:46] ok well i got to go if i understand u problem propery add this command to your mplayer options in your myth tv media settings −ao alsa, oss [18:49] is there any other things/logs I should look at to figure out why mythfrontend isn't working with nvidia in mythbuntu 8.04? mythfrontend.log isn't showing me anything [18:50] it starts up fine without nvidia drivers [18:52] backend log? [18:52] psicobra: i have no sound at all. I think you weren't in here when I laid it out before, but briefly, here's what I've got: [18:53] I did a mini cli only install from the 8.04LTS mini cd. I did this so that I could boot to a local CF drive, with / hosted remotely on an NFS server [18:53] that all works great .. system is diskless (essentially) boots to DHCP, goes and boots to a root drive hosted on a core server [18:54] so once I'm there, i log into cli and did an 'apt-get install mythbuntu' .. it got Xorg running, correctly configured the nvidia driver for me, but I have no sound. [18:55] if i install and run the gnome alsa sound manager, it sees that I have a Realtex ALC888 .. but no sound, and the master & pcm sound volume sliders are inverted. [18:55] no sound at all or just while playing stuff in mplayer [18:55] no sound at all [18:55] do u have alsaconf? [18:55] I think so .. (not there now .. so can't be sure .. but I think I checked for that). [18:56] see if u can get alsconf installed [18:56] someone suggested pulse-audio .. and that was NOT installed by mythbuntu-desktop .. me installing it didn't change. [18:56] ok .. I'll try that next [18:57] the only other strange behavior I have is when I go to System / Services .. I can't unlock the applet to enable the ALSA service (It's disabled). The gnome services thing crashes [18:57] sudo apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils [18:57] should do it [18:58] great .. thanks for the help and input .. I do appreciate it. [18:58] try that when done run sudo alsaconf [19:00] ok .. thanks [19:01] one other question .. is there a specific package that needs to be installed to make DVD Rip / Transcode to ISO work? [19:01] sabhain, let me know if it works or if u have any more problems [19:01] ffmpeg [19:01] is 1 [19:01] transcode is another [19:02] I had it working on a trial machine setup, but over there I had lots of stuff installed .. not just the base mythbuntu [19:09] sabhain, did it work? [19:13] iamlindoro_ the mythgallery plugin says it, but it starts when mythtv does - which is irritating, because i didnt ask for it. [19:13] iamlindoro__ ** [19:21] how can I see which module is loaded after building new ones with dkms? [20:56] if I already have ubuntu desktop installed 8.04, and I want to install mythtv, so I can use it as well as my desktop, do I add "mythbuntu control center" from the add/remove or do I add the mythtv backend setup / front end? [20:57] to me, it seems that if I install the mythbuntu control center, it will convert everything I have already on my desktop, etc... and then I have to later add the desktop... [20:57] can anyone confirm which route to go? [21:03] anyone? [21:04] i don't know which to install from the add/remove: just mythtv, or the mythubuntu? [23:12] whats wrong with mythtv? :\ [23:18] it's annoyed because of your cursing [23:18] :) [23:18] well, forget about that what i wrote [23:18] i had found out what was wrong [23:19] the most common problem.... :) [23:24] what was it?
