swheatleywhere can I find the config of the Ubuntu/Mythbuntu kernel for 8.04?03:21
superm1/usr/src/`uname -r`03:22
superm1or better yet03:22
superm1/usr/src/linux-`uname -r`/03:22
rhpot1991_laptophmmm does the resume/bookmark feature work with iso's in mythvideo?03:22
superm1i wouldnt expect it to03:23
swheatleythanks superm1. I don't currently have the source installed and I want to build it as close to the stock kernel03:23
superm1swheatley, dont need the source installed03:23
superm1it comes in the headers package03:23
rhpot1991_laptopkinda figured superm103:23
superm1which should be installed by default03:23
swheatleyswheatley@pvr:~$ cd /usr/src/linux-`uname -r`/03:24
swheatley-bash: cd: /usr/src/linux-2.6.24-16-generic/: No such file or directory03:24
swheatleyswheatley@pvr:~$ cd /usr/src/linux-`uname -r`/03:24
swheatley-bash: cd: /usr/src/linux-2.6.24-16-generic/: No such file or directory03:24
superm1oh my bad03:24
swheatleycrap, sorry for double pasting03:24
superm1/usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`/03:24
superm1there is a file .config in there03:24
superm1that is the config that is used03:24
rhpot1991_laptopI wonder how happy my laptop would be if I hacked xorg to have a larger res03:24
rhpot1991_laptopnot enough realestate here03:25
swheatleysuperm1: awesome, thanks!03:25
swheatleyI'm trying to compile the kernel without the built-in v4l support03:25
superm1no prob03:25
superm1why?03:25
swheatleytrying to get my PVR-950 USB tuners installed03:25
superm1oh03:26
superm1that forked driver03:26
superm1bleh03:26
swheatleyinstalling the em28xx-dvb drivers hoses my whole system03:26
swheatleyyeah, I'm not a big fan  :)03:26
superm1i wish someone would properly fix that03:26
superm1so it can join the v4l tree again03:26
swheatleyyou and me both03:26
superm1well then honestly let me tell you the best solutin03:26
superm1solution even03:26
superm1apt-get source linux-image-2.6.24-16-generic03:26
superm1modify the config for your architecture03:27
superm1bump the changelog03:27
superm1and then debuild it03:27
superm1you'll get a nice deb that won't be very different03:27
superm1and that the ABI will still be valid etc03:27
swheatleywhen you say modify the config for my architecture, what do you mean?03:28
superm1well the way those source packages work03:28
superm1there are a collection of configs03:28
superm1in debian/config i think03:28
superm1for i386, amd64, lpia, etc03:29
swheatleyah ok03:29
superm1then there are ways to force it to only build one of those architectures etc03:29
swheatleyit's funny... I've been doing this for years, but not on a debian system03:30
swheatleyI was a Gentoo guy previously03:30
swheatleybut got tired of my system breaking if I didn't emerge on a daily basis03:30
swheatleyso now I'm learning "the debian way" to do things03:31
superm1yeah me too03:31
superm1i came from gentoo 3 years back or so03:31
superm1well this is something you can't hold up to ubuntu or debian's fault though ;)03:32
swheatleyI still love their forums... always had tons of great info03:32
swheatleynot that the ubuntu ones aren't great as well03:32
swheatleyoh no! certainly not.03:32
superm1there is a nice wiki page discussing rebuilding kernels actually03:32
superm1let me see if i can come across it03:32
swheatleyjust trying to learn what the right way to rebuild the kernel is03:33
swheatleyonly ever installed a new binary image on any ubuntu box I've worked with03:33
superm1https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile03:33
swheatleynice, thnx03:33
swheatleyhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile03:33
swheatleyooops03:33
superm1yeah follow that exactly03:33
swheatleyapt-got the source03:41
swheatleybut it's not in /usr/src like I expected03:41
swheatleyI'm going back and following their instructions now, doing the build-dep step03:42
swheatleyah, it's in my home dir03:46
swheatleysuperm1: looks like v4l isn't compiled in, at least not in the config you pointed me to04:10
swheatleyI guess I need to contact the driver maintainer04:10
swheatleythanks for all your help04:10
mgpaulushello all.  Anyone here also using an MVPMC device?04:51
keessuperm1: actually, the configs are in /boot too07:15
superm1kees, oh thanks.  w/ an unintuitive name too, config-`uname -r` :).  I could have sworn they were there too, but was looking for .config07:39
lymzhello08:16
lymzI'm having trouble getting the frontend of mythbuntu setup08:16
lymzfirst off it tells me "No UPnP backends found"08:17
lymzThen the Database Configuration 1/2 page comes up, and all the fields are populated (including the password)08:17
lymzfor Database Configuration 2/2 I did enter any settings for custom identifier or enable database server wakeup08:18
lymzI did not*08:19
lymzwhen I hit enter it tells me "Cannot login to database?"08:19
lymzand kicks me back to the Database Configuration 1/2 page08:19
lymzI've tried searching the forums.  I have mysql running and the password for the mythtv user is correct08:20
lymzany ideas on what could be wrong?08:20
lymzaha! it looks like my mythconverg database has not been setup08:44
lymzI went ahead and re-installed mythbuntu from CD (this time selecting install instead of live)09:05
lymzlooks like I don't have that issue anymore09:05
adchello, i've just installed mythbuntu 8.04 after restart my system stays waiting with the message "Loading, please wait" for quite a while and then it gets into a sort of shell saying initramfs and thats it.10:35
adcwhat could i do10:35
wayneandleanneanybody give me pointers to change where mtd dumps the output file?11:20
scd_huhi all13:12
bazzawillhey13:12
scd_hucan i get some help about tv card/remote?13:12
bazzawillI can sure try13:13
scd_huthank. I have a Pinnacle pctv50i and i cant get to work the remote. The riciever connected to the card. I was googled a lot, try howtos without succes13:15
bazzawillwhat system are you using?13:17
SolarbabySo I was browsing around the web for pre-made mythtv systems suitable for being in an entertainment system.. and I've got to say i wasn't impressed13:19
scd_humythbuntu 8.0413:19
Solarbabyhardware wise it was expensive and nothing special13:19
scd_hudmesg says:http://pastebin.com/d6bd9883213:22
bazzawilllooks like your remote has been used as a ir key board similar to a twinhan card I used to have there a a few options here13:26
scd_huyes but i can't manage to work13:27
bazzawillone is to use it as is and reset keybindings using the command hexdump should confirm that keypresses from the remote are mapped to std kybrd presses13:27
bazzawillanother option is to reconfigure lirc manually ie http://www.doctort.org/adam/nerd-notes/mythtv-and-the-twinhan-remote.html13:28
scd_huhow can i test it?13:28
bazzawillrun hexdump in a terminal then press buttons on the remote it should output to the terminal13:28
bazzawillhonestly I have never really got into remotes I tend to stick to a wireless keyboard although I am thinking of switching to the mce remote which looks cool13:30
scd_huhmmm its not in the output of cat /proc/bus/input/devices13:31
bazzawillhmm ok looked similar dmesg so does how does the remote reciever plugin?13:33
bazzawillhave you tried modprobe saa7134 pinnacle_remote=113:37
scd_hunevermind i have two boxes and one display. the link above i think ok, but im not done now13:39
scd_huthe tvcard is in the other box  of course :P13:42
bazzawillah ic well then this would be a problem however the mce remote looks like a good option in that case13:45
scd_huno succes :(13:52
cmugHi13:53
cmugI upgraded 7.10 to 8.04 and now I have some problems with my Nvidia13:53
hugolpcmug:  get to the queue14:04
cmugi'm there14:06
hugolpcmug:  XD14:13
hugolpcmug:  whats the problem?14:13
cmugwell, I installed my 7.10 mythbuntu long ago, I got a nice nvidia 6200 something into it. Then I used the envy software to setup the nvidia drivers (brr), now I upgraded the system to 8.04 and my nvidia broke down. I uninstalled envy with --uninstall-all option, also dpkg -l | grep nvidia and uninstalled all those packages too but I am unable to get the proprietary driver to work again14:14
cmuglinux-image-2.6.24-17-generic is the linux kernel14:15
hugolpcmug:  I had problems with nvidia propietary drivers too and I installed Hardy clean14:15
cmugI don't want to go clean :(14:15
hugolpcmug:  theres a thread in ubuntuforums.org about posible solutions14:15
cmugok let me look them up14:16
hugolpcmug:  no, I installed clean the first time and had problem anyways14:16
hugolpin my case, at some point they got solved, and I have no idea why14:16
cmugok14:16
cmugI just booted to a older kernel, and am running apt-get purge on the latest version14:16
cmugI have the nvidia-new package installed, will reinstall the latest kernel too14:17
cmugand I keep getting this "FATAL: Error running install command for nvidia14:22
cmug" when I run modprobe nvidia..14:22
hugolpcmug:  in the forums I remember people suggesting to completely remove envy and the drivers it installed14:23
cmugI did that14:24
hugolpcant help you14:24
hugolpthen14:24
cmugnp14:24
cmugwow I fixed it14:32
cmugnow only if I can stop mythfrontend from respawning 1000 times a second14:33
scd_hucmug: try to install14:59
cmugI got it fixed now14:59
adchello after installing mythbuntu the backend setup asks me for a user, the default is mythtv but there is no mysql user mythtv, the installatin process gave me a password but dont know the username15:23
Aval0nhey guys I uninstalled ubuntu hardy's default package for mythtv so I could install 21-fixes from source..16:35
Aval0nbut now anytime I do anything with apt-get it says mysql is no longer needed16:35
Aval0nI would like to do a clean but I don't want it to wipe out mysql16:35
hugolpAval0n:  sudo apt-get install mysql16:38
Aval0nok will that screw any of my databases?16:39
hugolpAval0n:  sudo apt-get install mysql-server16:39
hugolpthats the correct16:39
Aval0nthat's correct?16:40
Aval0nit WILL hose them?>16:40
hugolpAval0n:  if you have installed mysql from repos that will make the package mysql-server not a package that depends on another package but a package that you want installed on its onw16:40
Aval0nthat's cool16:40
Aval0nbut not at the expense of losing any pre-configured databases16:41
hugolpAval0n:  if the packet mysql-server its allredy installed it wont touch anything, it will just mark the package as installed on its own16:41
Aval0nok16:42
hugolpAval0n:  if you want to be sure, check in synaptic (or whatever you want to use) what mysql-server package you have installed16:43
hugolpand sudo apt-get install that package16:43
Aval0nRemoving nvidia-glx ...16:43
Aval0ndpkg-divert: rename involves overwriting `/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so' with16:43
Aval0ndifferent file `/usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core', not allowed16:43
Aval0narrg wtf is it trying to remove glx for when I install mysql-server16:44
Aval0nis there a way to force remove nvidia-glx16:45
Aval0nI have a driver from nvidia.com installed anyway16:45
Aval0nnot using that package either.16:45
tgm4883_laptopthis begs the question.   Was there something you specifically needed from 21-fixes?16:46
hugolpAval0n:  yes, you can force a package to not be installed16:46
Aval0nhow16:46
hugolpAval0n:  I dont know how to do it in apt-get, you can do it in synaptic16:47
Aval0nunfortunatly i'm relying on ssh atm16:48
hugolpIm sure apt-get can do it, check the help16:48
tgm4883_laptopAval0n, ssh host -X -Y16:48
Aval0nhave been16:48
Aval0nto a vista box tgm?16:48
Aval0nwill that work?16:48
hugolpalso, check if mysql-server is the package you have installed for the mysql server16:48
tgm4883_laptopAval0n, was there something specifically that you needed from 21-fixes?16:49
tgm4883_laptopAval0n, couldn't hurt to try?16:49
Aval0ntgm4883: lots16:49
Aval0nincluding a patch for skiploopfilter16:49
tgm4883_laptopwell this seems like a lot of work for something that could be in the -fixes repo16:50
Aval0ni'de be fine if I could just get this darn nvidia-glx package off here16:50
Aval0n-fixes doesn't have the skiploopfilter patch16:50
tgm4883_laptopah16:50
Aval0nhttp://pastebin.org/3422316:51
Aval0nany idea how to fix that?16:51
Aval0nheh16:51
tgm4883_laptopnope16:52
Aval0nlol16:52
Aval0nthat makes 2 of us16:52
TelnetMantaanyone had problems with SATA hard disks in Hardy/Mythbuntu?17:50
TelnetMantaI can seem to get a new partition created and formatted ext317:50
ward1983is there a way to take over my mythbuntu settings? i killed my ubuntu so im gonna reinstall but i was hoping i could copy some files so that i dont have to setup mythbuntu again18:22
deviantintegralhi - simple question. I have an ubuntu box with freevo set up, but I want to look at mythbuntu. If I decide I don't like it, I can just remove mythbuntu-desktop?18:25
ward1983anyone? its a bit urgent im working with the livecd now but i need to reinstall asap, i need my system18:28
pdragoni believe most settings are stored in the database18:33
pdragonnot 100% sure, but that would be where i would look18:33
ward1983pdragon: then ill just set it up again18:34
ward1983i dunno anything about databases lol18:34
ward1983anyway i cant wait any longer18:34
ward1983need to install18:34
ward1983byeybe18:34
pdragonif you install the phpmyadmin package you can get to it from http://your.ip.address/phpmyadmin18:35
lagapdragon: you here? i'm currently looking into the mythweb password problem19:11
pdragonyeah, but not fully. i'm at work so may be delayed in responding sometimes19:11
lagaah. you don't happen to have access to the box where mythweb is running right now?19:12
pdragoni do19:12
pdragonssh and web19:12
pdragonnot directly or vnc tho19:12
lagassh will do.19:14
lagaso, the problem was that the password in the mythweb config was different from what was in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt19:14
pdragonyes19:14
pdragonfor me it happened after an update. seems it's happened for some people right at install too19:14
lagamythweb uses the password from the debconf database. can you run 'get echo mythtv/mysql_mythtv_password | debconf-communicate' to find out what password is in debconf? is it the correct one?19:15
lagaof course, omit the single quotes :)19:15
pdragonthat 'get' supposed to be there? i don't have that command19:20
lagaduh, sorry :)19:20
lagaecho get mythtv/mysql_mythtv_password | debconf-communicate19:20
pdragongetting permission denied errors. where's the right place to put sudo when piping things?19:21
lagathe permission denied errors shouldn't matter.. isn't there some 'better' output in the last line?19:21
pdragondebconf: DbDriver "passwords" warning: could not open /var/cache/debconf/passwords.dat: Permission denied19:23
pdragon10 mythtv/mysql_mythtv_password doesn't exist19:23
pdragonthat's the output19:23
lagaodd. do you have mythtv-common installed?19:24
pdragonyes19:24
lagaheh. doesn't work here either.. maybe that's the problem19:30
lagathanks19:30
pdragonnp :)19:30
cosmicHI @ ALL19:37
cosmicHey Guys , I have a problem ... I just installed Mythbuntu Hary (8.04) restarted as usual and everything seem to work fine just one of my DVB-T cards couldnt find any channels ... but frontend worked good , i installed some packages like ia386-libs and build-essentials, and so on . Then i copied my config files (like .lircrc / vsftpd.conf , and so on) and i restarted again to see if my rcS scripts will work fine ... but i couldnt watch19:44
cosmict live tv anymore, i started mythtv-setup and tried to rescan channels but this time my first card didnt get any channels!?!?!?!?! Whats that ? the second thing ... for having lirc control i had to : cp lircrc to /home/cosmic/.lirc/mythtv    after restart i had to do it again ?!?!?!19:44

astra-1it seems as if nothing works properly21:12
astra-1such as mysql and configuration utilities21:13
majoridiotmysql works fine here21:14
iamlindoro_Yup, everything pretty much quiet on this front too21:14
majoridiotastra-1, what configuration utilities are failing?21:14

majoridiotagrees with laga... recommend forums first.21:16
astra-1is the alternate install cd have more problems than the livecd?21:17
majoridiotastra-1, be sure to post complete system specs... mobo, video card, etc.21:17
lagathe alternate disk isn't that well-tested. 8.04 the first release to have an alternate disk.21:17
majoridiotastra-1, the livecd worked 100% for me first try.  have not tried the alt.21:17
astra-1i'll try the livecd21:17
majoridiotyou might21:17
astra-1you think it'll run on 256 megs of ram21:18
lagano21:18
lagait _might_ work if you boot straight into ubiquity. there's a boot option to boot directly into the installer.21:18
