aboganirtg: Hi Tim, sorry to bother you. Is it a well-done SRU bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/229499 ?11:19

mcella_We're backporting kvm-68 from intrepid to hardy since we're experiencing some problems with stock kvm (62) in hardy 16:19
mcella_I've got three packages, kvm, kvm-data and kvm-source16:20
mcella_the stock hardy kernel installs kvm modules inside /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-server/kernel/arch/x86/kvm16:21
mcella_what's the proper way to upgrade these modules to a new kvm release?16:21
mcella_here /usr/share/doc/kvm/README.Debian it's suggested to use module-assistant auto-install16:22
mcella_I've done it and got a new kvm-modules-2.6.24-16-server package16:22
mcella_but this package installs kvm modules in /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-server/misc16:23
mcella_so modprobe -l | grep kvm gives me the old modules16:23
mcella_/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-server/kernel/arch/x86/kvm/kvm-amd.ko16:23
mcella_/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-server/kernel/arch/x86/kvm/kvm-intel.ko16:23
mcella_/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-server/kernel/arch/x86/kvm/kvm.ko16:23

rtg_mcella_: try installing them in  /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-server/updates. the depmod order is controlled by /etc/depmod.d/ubuntu.conf16:26
mcella_is there a way I can tell module assistant where to install them?16:26
mcella_rtg_: tnx btw16:27
rtg_mcella_: dunno, I've never used module assistant.16:27
mcella_ok, tnx16:27
rtg_soren: ^^^16:27
munckfishHi. I need some advice - I'm working on the PS3 Port, I've sent a couple of messages to the kernel team mailing list recently but no one is talking back. Can anyone tell me what if anything I'm doing wrong or could do get dialog started?16:28
rtg_munckfish: I keep thinking BenC will reply. He's the ps3 dude.16:28
munckfishrtg_: worth pestering him direct then? ok16:28
* BenC is here, but on call right now16:29
munckfishBenC: ok I am around just ping when you have a moment16:29
mcella_rtg_: what about make-kpkg?16:29
rtg_mcella_: uh, what about it? Are you thinking it has options for where to direct the installation of the kvm modules?16:31
mcella_dunno, just noticed it inside kvm readme16:31
mcella_ - Using the make-kpkg(1) command provided by the kernel-package Debian16:32
mcella_   package. This will produce a corresponding kvm-modules package for16:32
mcella_   the Debian kernel-image package that you are using. This is "the Debian16:32
mcella_   way". See the "modules_image" section of the make-kpkg(1) man page.16:32
mcella_someone told me in ubuntu-virt that today Soren is on holiday16:32
mcella_I will try to catch with him tomorrow maybe :-)16:33
rtg_mcella_: your best bet is to get soren's attention. I get all of the kvm updates from him.16:33
mcella_ok, tnx a lot anyway16:33

lacostej_Is there a channel where I can get kernel help ? I've been (sporadically) on #ubuntu for 4 weeks and noone seems to be able to help me investigate bug #216927. It's actually happening right now: my keyboard and mouse are stuck, and firefox is stuck switching tabs indefinitely (causing 100% CPU on the machine). 18:53
lacostej_If someone knows if there's a Hardy kernel with kgdb backported, feel free to post that information on the aforementionned issue page. (and sorry for bothering this channel)19:04
