Nick_M_Hi all01:06
Nick_M_i'm looking for some opinions/suggestions/thoughts on a project01:06
Nick_M_(kids based)01:06
Nick_M_I represent a project called eyeEdu (an educational version of the eyeOS project)01:07
Nick_M_it provides a web-based desktop specifically for children01:07
Nick_M_(i've got no demos, and the website is currently down :( )01:07
Nick_M_i'm just trying to see what kind of support I can get from this project ;)01:07
Nick_M_eyeOS is to Linux, what eyeEdu is to Edubuntu01:08
Nick_M_TIA ;)01:08
Nick_M_eyeOS is to Ubuntu*****01:11
RichEdNick_M_: what sort of support were you looking / wishing for ?01:18
Nick_M_RichEd: anything from quick thoughts/opinions about the project now, to long-term community members01:20
RichEdhey up there in the philippines mr jsgotangco01:20
Nick_M_I'll take what I can get, is what i'm saying01:20
RichEdwell do you have any specific need to move over to edubuntu ? or motivation ?01:20
jsgotangcohullo RichEd morning01:20
Nick_M_?01:20
RichEdi presume: #1 you have seen the edubuntu look & feel01:21
Nick_M_I'm not sure what you're asking, RichEd01:21
Nick_M_Yes ;)01:21
RichEdsorry ... it's me who is not clear ... do you want to use edubuntu as a replacement in the eyeEdu project ?01:21
Nick_M_Nooo01:22
Nick_M_I'll be more clear: :)01:22
RichEdwell then pliss xplain dear fellow01:22
Nick_M_eyeOS is an open source "web desktop"01:22
RichEdit's 2:22 am and I got 3 hours sleep last night ... so type slowly in big letters ;)01:22
Nick_M_:P01:22
Nick_M_so, eyeOS is like..Linux on the web01:22
Nick_M_eyeEdu, will be based off the eyeOS project (the web Linux)01:23
Nick_M_so providing, a KIDS web-desktop :)01:23
* RichEd is following but is not sure what you mean by a web linux01:23
Nick_M_well01:23
Nick_M_what people commonly perceive as "linux"01:24
Nick_M_a free, open source OS01:24
Nick_M_if you'd like, check out http://eyeos.org to understand what it is :P01:24
RichEdi'll take a quick look ... in the meanwhile: and how does the KIDS web-desktop differ from say Edubuntu ... standard app choices, menu layout + look & feel ?01:25
Nick_M_Well, it doesn't really differ from edubuntu01:25
Nick_M_besides the fact that, eyeEdu will be used in a web-browser01:25
Nick_M_and edubuntu is a native OS01:25
Nick_M_eyeEdu will use the Gartoon (ubunTOON) theme01:26
Nick_M_kid-friendly apps and whatnot01:26
Nick_M_I think that despite these two projects being on two different platforms (web and desktop)01:26
Nick_M_we can definitely  work together to benefit each other's causes ;)01:27
RichEdso what would the o/s be that you use to get to the eyeEdu browser ?01:27
Nick_M_tremendously *01:27
Nick_M_Whatever host OS is on the computer01:27
Nick_M_in a poor situation, a small distro of linux01:28
Nick_M_(there is a project called eyeNux, which is a VERY small linux distro that opens a web browser)01:28
Nick_M_or, in more advanced situations, Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc01:28
RichEdforgive me for asking the dumb questions ... but if you can boot say an edubuntu desktop, and run a browser to get to eyeEdu ... why not use the desktop for the same job01:28
RichEdi am sure you have good answers ... my brain is just too melted to take in new stuff right now and extend01:29
Nick_M_Well, i'll give you my few ideas behind eyeEdu01:29
RichEdtell you what ... can you type the info up here ... and then cut & paste and email to me01:29
RichEdi'll take a fresh read and site browse after some shut-eye01:29
Nick_M_1: just using eyeEdu as a desktop environment for kids. My brothers and sisters seemed to ruin any computer they touched..but if I could launch for them eyeEdu in fullscreen (using java or somethign), they would be able to tinker away at their online desktop made ONLY for them, without any consequences01:30
Nick_M_sure ;)01:30
Nick_M_2: kids can't very well learn several operating systems...but if they could log in to the desktop they use daily at school, from their home computer (with all their files), they would be more apt to learning01:31
RichEd^ that requirement makes some sense #1 ^ but somewhere in the back of my head lurks the suggestion that there is an easier solution01:31
RichEdbut that might just be lazy tired mistiming synapses01:32
RichEdah ... seen #2 before :)01:32
RichEdokay ... i will crash now and follow up in the morning01:32
Nick_M_I'll be here01:32
RichEddid you see my msg01:32
Nick_M_or you can join me in #eyeedu tomorrow01:32
Nick_M_I did, but you left me no email ;)01:32
RichEdcheck there for my email address01:32
* RichEd will need to be prodded int action in the morning ... total recall is not installed at the moment01:33
Nick_M_Thanks for your help :)01:33
