[01:06] Hi all [01:06] i'm looking for some opinions/suggestions/thoughts on a project [01:06] (kids based) [01:07] I represent a project called eyeEdu (an educational version of the eyeOS project) [01:07] it provides a web-based desktop specifically for children [01:07] (i've got no demos, and the website is currently down :( ) [01:07] i'm just trying to see what kind of support I can get from this project ;) [01:08] eyeOS is to Linux, what eyeEdu is to Edubuntu [01:08] TIA ;) [01:11] eyeOS is to Ubuntu***** [01:18] Nick_M_: what sort of support were you looking / wishing for ? [01:20] RichEd: anything from quick thoughts/opinions about the project now, to long-term community members [01:20] hey up there in the philippines mr jsgotangco [01:20] I'll take what I can get, is what i'm saying [01:20] well do you have any specific need to move over to edubuntu ? or motivation ? [01:20] hullo RichEd morning [01:20] ? [01:21] i presume: #1 you have seen the edubuntu look & feel [01:21] I'm not sure what you're asking, RichEd [01:21] Yes ;) [01:21] sorry ... it's me who is not clear ... do you want to use edubuntu as a replacement in the eyeEdu project ? [01:22] Nooo [01:22] I'll be more clear: :) [01:22] well then pliss xplain dear fellow [01:22] eyeOS is an open source "web desktop" [01:22] it's 2:22 am and I got 3 hours sleep last night ... so type slowly in big letters ;) [01:22] :P [01:22] so, eyeOS is like..Linux on the web [01:23] eyeEdu, will be based off the eyeOS project (the web Linux) [01:23] so providing, a KIDS web-desktop :) [01:23] * RichEd is following but is not sure what you mean by a web linux [01:23] well [01:24] what people commonly perceive as "linux" [01:24] a free, open source OS [01:24] if you'd like, check out http://eyeos.org to understand what it is :P [01:25] i'll take a quick look ... in the meanwhile: and how does the KIDS web-desktop differ from say Edubuntu ... standard app choices, menu layout + look & feel ? [01:25] Well, it doesn't really differ from edubuntu [01:25] besides the fact that, eyeEdu will be used in a web-browser [01:25] and edubuntu is a native OS [01:26] eyeEdu will use the Gartoon (ubunTOON) theme [01:26] kid-friendly apps and whatnot [01:26] I think that despite these two projects being on two different platforms (web and desktop) [01:27] we can definitely work together to benefit each other's causes ;) [01:27] so what would the o/s be that you use to get to the eyeEdu browser ? [01:27] tremendously * [01:27] Whatever host OS is on the computer [01:28] in a poor situation, a small distro of linux [01:28] (there is a project called eyeNux, which is a VERY small linux distro that opens a web browser) [01:28] or, in more advanced situations, Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc [01:28] forgive me for asking the dumb questions ... but if you can boot say an edubuntu desktop, and run a browser to get to eyeEdu ... why not use the desktop for the same job [01:29] i am sure you have good answers ... my brain is just too melted to take in new stuff right now and extend [01:29] Well, i'll give you my few ideas behind eyeEdu [01:29] tell you what ... can you type the info up here ... and then cut & paste and email to me [01:29] i'll take a fresh read and site browse after some shut-eye [01:30] 1: just using eyeEdu as a desktop environment for kids. My brothers and sisters seemed to ruin any computer they touched..but if I could launch for them eyeEdu in fullscreen (using java or somethign), they would be able to tinker away at their online desktop made ONLY for them, without any consequences [01:30] sure ;) [01:31] 2: kids can't very well learn several operating systems...but if they could log in to the desktop they use daily at school, from their home computer (with all their files), they would be more apt to learning [01:31] ^ that requirement makes some sense #1 ^ but somewhere in the back of my head lurks the suggestion that there is an easier solution [01:32] but that might just be lazy tired mistiming synapses [01:32] ah ... seen #2 before :) [01:32] okay ... i will crash now and follow up in the morning [01:32] I'll be here [01:32] did you see my msg [01:32] or you can join me in #eyeedu tomorrow [01:32] I did, but you left me no email ;) [01:32] check there for my email address [01:33] * RichEd will need to be prodded int action in the morning ... total recall is not installed at the moment [01:33] Thanks for your help :) [01:36] Does anyone know where I can download the GNUtoon or Ubuntoon theme in pngs? [01:37] when I convert from svgs, i can't preserve the transparency [04:38] is there a linux alternative to video cue or adobe visual communiator? [11:17] okay i keep getting this - DHCPOFFER on 192.168.1.249 to 00:02:a5:28:38:64 via eth2 [11:17] and it repeats itself [11:17] next system does not boot..but if i wait...then its okay.. like 4 mins later. [12:30] hello...im stuggling with a dhcp issue..where clients do not receive dhcp offers at first..then after a min or two after reboot they are fine. the switch and cabling seems to fine..but i can figure this one out..can some aid?? [13:10] im using edubuntu 8.04 with two nics [13:10] and when actually logining in it takes at least 2 mins [15:29] Does anybody know of some good companies that do remote management of linux servers? [16:55] hello. Im fighting with an 8.04 setup....I have two nics..and one has been set to a 192.168.1..254 the other to dhcp. I even set the /etc/default/dhcp-server3 LISTEN to the proper interface.
