byte71how to configure ldap client on hardy desktop??00:01
ichigo_nlwill kde4.1 be default in 8.1000:05
gnomefreakichigo_nl: not sure yet00:05
gnomefreakichigo_nl: its way too early to know for sure00:05
* jabba hopes so00:05
jabbakde4 is so purty00:05
ichigo_nlyeah okay but 4.1 will be usable00:06
gnomefreakkde4 might be but no word on kde4.100:06
gnomefreakichigo_nl: that doesnt mean much if its not stable it most likely wont be used unless stable comes shortly after00:06
gnomefreakkde4 was usable and still is but its on a separate disk for a reason :)00:06
ichigo_nlgnomefreak it will be stable believe me00:07
gnomefreakand no kubuntu is not LTS00:07
gnomefreakichigo_nl: even kde devs cant say that for sure00:07
ichigo_nlubuntu is lts and still its not good00:07
gnomefreakKubuntu is not LTS00:07
jabbawhere are the instabilities? i've had a few anomolous crashes in konq but nothing related to qt00:07
gnomefreakUbuntu is00:07
jabbaand for me, it's pretty stable, other than my own fault with a couple of kde3/kde4 guts mingling00:08
ichigo_nlkde4 is stable00:08
gnomefreakichigo_nl: instead of labling kde3.5 LTS and kde4 not they opted for not all around to be less confusing00:08
ichigo_nli like the change that kde did00:09
anethum_a<sarcasm>come on guys, vista is the way to go</sarcasm>00:09
jabbaanethum_a: i has an xp, vista, ubuntu laptop :)00:09

gnomefreakcan you guys pleas move kde4 talk to #kubuntu-kde4 as this is turing into alot longer of a topic than it should have bene00:11
gnomefreakbeen00:11
byte71where do00:11
ichigo_nlcan you please go to #ubuntu there the gnome channel :P00:11
byte71where for ldap???00:11
jabbagnomefreak: is there a threshold of how long somebody can talk about something before it becomes necessary to stop discussion?00:12
gnomefreakichigo_nl: please be polite and go to that channel and keep this one free for kde300:12
gnomefreakjabba: there is a quick answer if off topic00:12
gnomefreakif its longer than a quick answer it need to go to correct channel00:13
BluesKajgnomefreak, there are reports that kde4 support is asleep at the wheel , non responsive00:13
gnomefreakBluesKaj: than why is the channel there?00:13
jabbagnomefreak: presumably so you can tell people to go there.00:14
gnomefreakit should be in one channel IMHO but i was told this yesterday and being an op i have to keep up with rules00:14
BluesKajdunno, i don't hang out there ..just passing on the info00:14
ichigo_nlits bullshit that kde4 needs a seperate channek00:14
gnomefreakichigo_nl: please dont push the rules any. please watch your language00:15
ichigo_nlgnomefreak you think you are operater ?00:15
gnomefreakcan to try again?00:15
gnomefreakcare00:15
jabbagnomefreak: does canonical have anything to do with the various ubuntu irc channels?00:15
gnomefreakjabba: not really this rule was made by kde guys most likely hobbsee or Riddell00:16
jabbaroger00:16
gnomefreaks/guys/guys and gals00:16
ichigo_nlyou should just answer to kde4 help because kubuntu-kde4 channel is dead00:17

wlynchafter downloading iso, how do i do a md5sum?00:54
BluesKajtry the live cd , it'll give you a better idea about whether your hardware will work with kubuntu , if you have some unusual hardware00:54
wlynchdont have reason to believe otherwise00:55
wlynchbut dont know00:55
Pici!verify | wlynch00:55

FujisanWhat makes us different from the official client, is that we work for you. Unlike the Pidgin developers, we believe the user should have the final say in what goes into the program.01:05
NaGahlHey, I'm looking for some help w/ Firefox 3b5 on Hardy. mailto links no longer work. There's a bug report on launchpad w/ a potential workaround that doesn't seem to work for me. Any suggestions?01:05
Choreboy"osx is best maybe" hahaha lovely.01:06
ChoreboyAnyway I need some help folks. I can't connect to my network anymore!01:07
ChoreboyI have to use a LiveCD to get on here.01:07
ChoreboyI installed KWlan, didn't like it, uninstalled it, now KNetwork Manager is giving me fits01:07
Choreboyit won't accept any changes I make01:07
Choreboyit mentioned something with trouble writing to the XML backend or something01:08
BluesKaj!KNetworkmanager01:09
ubottuYou want to connect via dial-up? Read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto - Also try disabling/removing KNetworkManager if KDE applications cannot connect using dial-up01:09
BluesKaj!eth001:09
ubottuFactoid eth0 not found01:09
ChoreboyI don't want dialup01:10
BluesKajyeah, I don't know why the response script talks about dialup :/01:11
Choreboyand it's difficult to correct whatever problem I'm having since I can't access the internet :-(01:11
ChoreboyI don't know anyone who uses dialup anymore01:12
BluesKajrouter?01:12
Choreboyyes01:12
afeijoI just bought my first mp4 player :D01:12
ChoreboyI'm on a laptop and sometimes I use wireless, at the moment I'm wired01:12
BluesKajrural ppl still have few options01:12
Choreboyyeah I think I would choose satellite over dialup01:13
afeijoI need to convert my divx avi file to mp4, ffmpeg to that?01:13
BluesKajnot much here about that afeijo , google it for more info01:13
afeijook, thanks01:13
Choreboyis there a way to fix my knetworkmanager?01:14
Choreboypossibly reinstall it?01:14
afeijohow hard is to have 2 internet links? just 2 network board?01:14
Choreboythe problem being, I have to be connected to the internet for that to work...01:14
BluesKajafeijo, http://www.smorgasbord.net/converting-video-in-linux-using-ffmpeg-and-mencoder/01:15
Choreboy800 people in here and no one knows how I can fix this?01:17
BluesKajChoreboy, we don't know what's wrong ...what error messages are you getting ?01:18
Choreboynothing really, ONE TIME I believe I saw something mentioning error writing XML to the backend or something01:18
p_quarlesChoreboy, what wireless card and what kind of encryption?01:19
Choreboyno encryption, but I'm wired at the moment anyway01:19
Choreboywireless card, I don't recall. Some kind of broadcom01:19
afeijoping01:20
afeijook01:20
p_quarlesChoreboy, it was working before, correct? no driver issues with the card?01:20
Choreboyno issues until I installed KWlan01:20
Choreboydidn't like KWlan because I didn't want to take the time to figure it out since KNetwork Manager worked fine for me, so I uninstalled it01:21
p_quarlesChoreboy, is it possible that KWLan left behind some startup scripts?01:21
p_quarlese.g., have you *looked* for startup scripts that have been left behind01:22
Choreboyp_quarles: I don't know how to do that01:23
p_quarleslook in /etc/rc2.d/ and in /etc/rc.local -- any files or lines that might be related01:23
adudewhen i try to login it takes me back to the login screen?01:23
adudewhat can i do to fix that.01:24
Choreboyit's going to take me a while to work my way around and look so be back in a minute01:24
rmribeirohi, what soft i need to leasen a online radio????01:28
Daisuke_Idoamarok01:28
rmribeirokaffeine, jajaj, in amarok i cant01:29
Daisuke_Idothen why did you ask?01:30
Daisuke_Idoinstall mp3 support for amarok (libxine1-ffmpeg) and go to the playlists tab in amarok, all of the radio stations are there01:30
Choreboyp_quarles: rc.local is a folder, yes? I don't see a folder with that name01:32
p_quarlesit's a file (if my last message went through, I didn't see it)01:33
[Relic]what's a good and currently maintained program to show system information?01:34
Choreboyp_quarles: I don't see anything unusual, but I don't entirely know what I'm looking for.01:34
p_quarlesChoreboy, either a file in /etc/rc2.d/ (named something like S##kwlan) or a line /etc/rc.local01:35
Choreboyp_quarles: no, definitely not either of those.01:35
p_quarlesChoreboy, hmm -- see if there's anything in /etc/sysctl.conf01:35
p_quarles[Relic], what kind of information?01:36
anethum_adoes hardy kernel support Memory Stick/Pro?01:37
[Relic]p_quarles, think I used super karamba once, something for core temp/load, mem, etc.01:37
anethum_aas in a built in card reader01:37
rmribeiropersonal01:37
p_quarles[Relic], well, there's Superkaramba, and then there's Conky01:38
rmribeirodebes escribir "/join #kubuntu-es" lo q esta entre comillas pero sin comillas01:38
Choreboyp_quarles: nothing.01:38
=== personal is now known as vzla
p_quarlesChoreboy, does knetworkmanager recognize your wireless card still? or is it saying "no active interfaces"?01:39
Choreboyp_quarles: I'm not even sure if I'm using Knetworkmanager. It used to start in the system tray, now it's not there anymore. I go to system settings, then network settings01:42
=== onechard is now known as slinker
Choreboyp_quarles: but it won't enable the lan or wireless01:42
Choreboyit says both are disabled, I tell it to enable, it flashes enabled then jumps right back to disabled01:43
p_quarlesChoreboy, open Konsole or the command dialogue and type "knetworkmanager" (minus the quotes)01:43
Choreboyp_quarles: I'm on a liveCD01:43
ChoreboyKNM works on the live CD, but not when I boot regular01:44
p_quarlesChoreboy, well, I'm just giving you things to try01:44
Choreboyok so I should reboot and give that a shot01:44
p_quarlesChoreboy, the other thing would be to run knetworkmanager with kdesu -- this would help determine if it's a permissions problem01:45
Choreboykdesu? is that like kdesudo?01:45
anethum_awow i love linux01:45
Daisuke_IdoChoreboy: same thing, one links to the other01:45
Choreboyanethum_a: me too, I just have alot more to learn about it01:46
Choreboyso far it runs faster and just generally better than my XP install01:46
anethum_ai find something wrong (or not working right) and in 10 minutes i find a fix for it01:46
intelikeyanyone know how to make linux stop starting my hdd for no reason ?     it spins down/up about every 30 sec.   and nothing is running.01:46
anethum_asorry, random interjection from a question i asked about 10 minutes ago on here lol01:47
p_quarlesChoreboy, and since you're not using WPA encryption, hooking up wireless by the CLI is actually very easy -- you could make an alias for connecting to your network and not have to worry about the network manager01:47
ChoreboyI just use MAC filtering, no one around here is savvy enough to sniff my packets01:48
yagohi, I have a big problem with Kubutnu 8.04,01:49
Choreboyp_quarles: that may be true but this is a laptop and I do take it elsewhere so I need the ability to easily be able to connect to other networks.01:49
=== hagabaka` is now known as hagabaka
Choreboyp_quarles: If this works you won't see me back here, so thanks in advance and wish me luck01:49
p_quarlesChoreboy, connecting is as easy as "sudo iwconfig [device-name] essid [network-name] && sudo dhclient [device-name]"01:49
Choreboyoh I'll have to save that01:50
yagowell the problem is that sometimes when I want to wathch a movie, when it starts, the display puts black and I can not do nothing01:50
rmribeirohow i leasen a  online radio in kubuntu. the files is ".pls" ".wax" and "rmm"01:51

_2Firefishe ubuntu has never used alsaconf02:15
Firefishe_2: ??  Please explain.02:18
_2 /usr/bin/asoundconf02:18
FirefisheI just want the script02:18
Firefishek..I'll try that02:18
Firefishethanks02:18
_2to the best of my knowledge no ubuntu release has ever supplied alsaconf   maybe it's depreciated by ubuntu... idk02:19
draikHow do I get the links within Thunderbird to open in Firefox?02:19
Firefishe_2: I see02:19
draikNot sure what was removed during the 7.10 to 8.04 upgrade, but the links don't do a thing.02:20
Firefishe_2:  Too bad, alsaconf is a powerful command line utility.02:20
_2Firefishe that's probably why they don't like.   ubuntu is a-cli biased ya know02:20
nflavaif i installed kubuntu can i still add the gnome desktop?02:23
Jucatonflava: yes02:23
nflavado i just do a sudo apt-get install gnome?02:24
Jucatoubuntu-desktop02:24
nflavaah02:24
nflavanice, there we go02:24
nflavai wanna check that out as well see which i can get used to better02:25
_2nflava the way you had it "sudo apt-get install gnome"  will also work,  just gives different packages02:25
nflavawell i tried that but it said an error, so i was not sure if it was me or something02:25
Firefishe_2:  Well, I found *something*.  It's located in a weird portion of my /var/lib/flwm subdirectory.  I execute it, it opens an xterm, and asks for my root password, which I don't have, as I use sudo (even on my stock debian boxen).02:25
Firefishe_2:  Any way around that?02:26
_2just as   "sudo apt-get install kde"   will install kde as well as  "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" will02:26
nflavai love my fios this download will only take a couple minutes at 1.8mb/s :)02:26

ubuntu__OK folks I have an issue I need help. SOMEHOW I uninstalled KNetworkManager. How can I reinstall it if I can't connect to the repositories?02:28
_2Jucato yes.  and developed over several years as well.02:28
Fujisankubuntu akbar02:29
_CrashMaster_reinstall from disc02:30

_2dpkg -i path/to/file.deb02:30
ubuntu__oh default nickname, lovely.02:30
Firefishe_2:  Could you please go over that command sequence again, please?  I think I see what you're saying:  Create a temporary password: "root"  Then with the -dl switch, delete it, correct?02:30
FirefisheJucato:  Thanks for the bug report, I'll go over it :)02:31
ubuntu___CrashMaster_: I installed from the alternate install disc, should I use that, or should I use the LiveCD disc?02:31
_2Firefishe create a password for root,  use the tool that is asking for a root password, reset the root account to the previous state.02:31

_2Firefishe you asked for a workaround  that is one.02:32

Daisuke_Ido!ask | freethinker02:33
ubottufreethinker: Please don't ask to ask a question, ask the question (all on ONE line, so others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely answer. :-)02:33

Dr_willissudo -s, run the command, exit.02:34
Firefisheno, Dr_willis and Daisuke-Ido;  I tried it, but the xterm just pops up then crashes.02:34
ChoreboyDoes anyone know? If I have to reinstall a program using the disc as a source, should I use the alternate install disc I used to install, or can I use the LiveCD disc?02:34
_2Dr_willis he said it asks for the root password.   it's not even in the path you know.02:34
Dr_willisxterm pops up? weird.02:34

Daisuke_Ido"pops up"?02:34
Dr_willismakes one wonder what would happen from the console.02:34
FirefisheDr_willis:  Pops up and disappears, like it segfaults in the middle of the command02:34
Daisuke_IdoFirefishe: tell me, are you running this from alt+f2?02:35
Daisuke_Idoyou should be doing this from a terminal02:35
JucatoChoreboy: alternate install. you can't use the Live CD as a CD repository (except for some very few packages I think)02:35
Dr_willisi would suggest trying from a console, see if it  does anything differently.02:35
freethinkeri can not listen to rosegarden, i have installed the program, and sox,and sndfile, and some packect named by  fluid...., but still i can not listen to anything02:35
FirefisheDaisuke-Ido:  Okay, I can do that, too.02:35
_2ATTENTION   there is no   alsaconfig   command in the path.   !!!02:35
_2s/ig//02:36
Daisuke_Idoperhaps that's the problem.02:36
Daisuke_Idohow was alsaconfig even installed?02:36
Dr_willisgive the full path?02:36
Choreboywhoops I lost connection. Did anyone answer me by chance?02:36
Jucato[09:30] <Jucato> Choreboy: alternate install. you can't use the Live CD as a CD repository (except for some very few packages I think)02:36
_2things that are not in *bin/  are not inteneded to be executed      they do that on purpose....02:37
ChoreboyJucato: thanks! Is it ocmplicated to get Adept to use the CD as a "repository source"?02:37
freethinkeris anyone who have anwser it my kinda question?02:37
_CrashMaster_For the longest time, I thought /bin was a british version of the Recycle Bin02:37
PiciThat would be the Rubbish Bin, and it means binaries.02:38
JucatoChoreboy: no. in Adept Manager, just go to Adept menu -> Manage Repositories, 3rd Party tab then click on Add CD-ROM02:38
_CrashMaster_Pici: So I have since discovered :)02:38
ChoreboyJucato: Thanks! Wish me luck.02:38
Firefishe_2:  Well, it tried to pop up a gnome-terminal in alt+f2 (regular terminal) but it got a gtk error.  Evidently flwm is using the gnome-terminal command for some reason.  Also, when I tried it again in the normal gui cli window, it tried to execute /usr/sbin/alsaconf, which isn't even there.02:41
freethinkerI can listen to rosengarden sound there is anyone who can help me?02:41
Firefishe_2:  So that's what it's doing, trying to execute alsaconf in /usr/sbin02:41
freethinkeri have install 3 pacathes02:42

draikNot sure what was removed during the 7.10 to 8.04 upgrade, but the links don't do a thing.02:47
_2Daisuke_Ido i was trying to explain that ubuntu has never used alsaconf    and the script that he was trying to run was only an alsaconf wrapper and that's why it was failing.02:48
FirefisheDaisuke_Ido:  Although I'm risking myself sounding like a compleat ideeut, I'd still like, heh, to inquire:  "So that means that the ALSA Packaging Team dropped alsaconf because it was a piece of junk?"  If alsaconf is deprecated, what replaces it, or at leasts, attempts to fill the void, if void--in the devloper's opinons--there is?02:48
Daisuke_Idoi wouldn't say never02:48
Daisuke_IdoFirefishe: nothing does, and it was dropped by debian (i believe) and ubuntu (i know)02:48
Daisuke_Ido_2: it was used prior to breezy02:48
_2Daisuke_Ido did they use it in warty ?   i don't go that far back in ubuntu time.02:48

_2Daisuke_Ido ok i might be wrong then   but i have hoary and i didn't think it's in there either...   ;/02:50
Daisuke_Idoif the answer is no, you don't need alsaconf - it has been deprecated for a long time now02:50
Daisuke_Ido_2: they may have removed it at that point, this bug report page only goes back to breezy though02:50
FirefisheDaisuke_Ido:  To some extent, yes, although I'm really doing this to see how alsa is controlled, if at all, in kubuntu.  Command line, preferably.02:50

[Relic]_2, 8.04 64bit kde3 sensors detect is severly outdated, tried the new one and it detected though, not sure why it won't activate couldn't remove them old one due to breaking numerous program problems which is very annoying  :(03:39

_CrashMaster_flaccid: Why couldn't he just use Konsole to run an "ifconfig eth1 up" and then reinstall from the archives?03:48

NightBirdis there a quick way to install dependencies for a program without actually installing the program itself?04:34
flaccidNightBird: only if the deps are in a separate pkg (libs/dev etc.) to the program's pkg04:34

_2echo *08:10
_2or for an example of the asterisks in flaccid's command  echo * /home/dell/deb/*deb08:11
sigma_1234dam if only i knew that. ive been manually installing them up to now!08:11
p_quarlessigma_1234, it's better to use apt, of course -- installing a bunch of independent .deb packages all at once has a high chance of breaking things08:13
flaccidnah its not actually p_quarles. apt is a frontend to dpkg and dpkg won't let you install conflicts08:13
_2sigma_1234 ? is also a wild card     but it only matches one char where * matches full strings    echo .ba??*    and you will see anything in the present dir that begins with .ba and has at least two more chars08:14
p_quarlesflaccid, this is true, but dpkg -i *.deb will take arguments in alphabetical order -- you could spend a lot of time trying to un-mess things up when the initial command doesn't work08:14
p_quarlesapt will check for conflicts and dependencies of all target packages before actually configuring them08:15
_2p_quarles that's what aptget install -f is for  :)08:15
p_quarles_2, it's for intentionally breaking things?08:16

flaccidproblem is that with kmix/mixer channels/settings its derived from the driver of the audio card and i've never seen doco and what is what. i agree its confusing as and i believe inaccurate at times when i've compared to the same card on windows11:18
coder2flaccid: skype: nothing. Tuner is a separate problem. Sound from there is too quiet. I have to set marter volume to 100% and there is risk for my ears if some other app makes a sound11:19
flaccidah shoot11:19
coder2"master volume", sorry11:19
flaccidum well problem is that like webcams there is no standard protocol for tv tuners and in terms of straight out video even /dev/dsp etc. is not followed most of the time. what are you using for tvtuner program and/or driver?11:20
cbris there any reason why 4.0.4 isnt in intrepid but is in hardy?11:21
flaccidcbr: #kubuntu-devel might be able to advise11:22
coder2flaccid: The TV-tuner is ComPro T300  (analog receiver), The only app that worked was kdeTV, if I'm not mistaken. I use analog loopback cable to hear at least anything, because I do not know how to hear sound from the onboard "digital in" device. And the tuner card was reconized automatically.11:24
flaccidcoder2: did you try tvtime?11:24

flaccidie. dbs below line level11:27
coder2But It is very loud under Windows XP with its native ComPro DTV app11:28
kunimcoder2: some soundcards have an extra "boost" option might be worth to look for it11:28
kunimmaybe also try the console based alsamixer as kmixer tends to be broken for some cards11:28
kunimkmix11:28
flaccidcoder2: thats unfortunate, something is attenuating it somewhere11:28
coder2I think something is woing with TV-tuner firmware. I suspect that some firmware patch should be provided by the driver.11:28
flaccidcheck alsamixer and kmix and um i don't know what else11:29
flaccidi guess its possible11:29
coder2I suspect that the SAA7134HL chip has onboard sound gain control, but it is ignored by the linux driver11:30
flaccidpossible i guess11:30

coder2And any ideas how to deal with mic in skype? By the way before kubuntu I've tried CentOS and skype worked there somehow. But kubuntu looks more attractive for me as a desktop OS.11:36
kunim_coder2: you only build the modules, not a whole new kernel11:36
coder2MythTV is obliuos overhead for me. I've tried it but it is too complex and its GUI is unusable I think. It even hidesmouse cursor11:37

mattycozeflaccid; really? The one that looks after the screen resolution...11:51
mattycozeflaccid; i installed and activated the card... but still can't get the card in any higher resultion than 640x42011:51

flaccidmattycoze: and what resoltion do you want and is compatible with the monitor.... problem is basically what kunim_ advised11:57

danny_am i right in beliving that the command is looking for updates for all my installed programs?13:14
flacciddanny_: pretty much. its a good idea to let it do the updates, then it will install java then restart firefox for you13:15
Jucatodanny_: "sudo apt-get update" basically checks if there are stuff to update. "sudo apt-get upgrade" upgrades those that can be ugraded13:15
Jucatothe last command he gave was to install java13:16
danny_nice13:17
mattycozeflaccid is it bad?13:18
Jucatoerythrocyte: not that I've noticed. and btw, Kubuntu 8.04 isn't LTS13:18

erythrocytejucato: Kubuntu actually comes in two flavors - LTS (KDE 3.5.9) and the KDE4 version13:19

fabiani want to automount a truecrypt-volume, when my usb-device is attached13:19
fabianhow can i do that?13:20
Jucatoerythrocyte: neither are LTS13:20
flaccidJucato: what is dapper sitting on kde version wise?13:20
mattycozeflaccid i'm on 8.04LTS, what i did was move to Kubuntu with synaptic the other day from the gnome environment13:20
Jucatoflaccid: tbh, I can't recall :)13:20
mattycoze... i figured it would be something different13:20
erythrocytejucato: ok, i guess i wasn't aware of that :)13:21
flaccidyeah kubuntu is not lts. a decision made by canonical as kde is in dev transition.13:21
Jucatoflaccid: KDE 3.5.2...13:21

Jucatoerythrocyte: not really. sorry...13:24
erythrocytejucato: np...thanks anyway13:24
Jucatoright.. back to work... :)13:24
flaccidJucato: i reckon is quite fair reason, but doesn't address the issues with legacy dapper being a current lts etc. but yeah /done.13:25
erythrocytefabian: you the host of linux outlaws :) ? ..man i love your show13:27
mattycozeflaccid ahh no fair :( something reset itself and i am now at 800x60013:27
jabbamattycoze: that's failsafe.13:29
flaccidmattycoze: try changing resolutions in system settings now13:29
fabianerythrocyte: ???13:29
flaccidmattycoze: what does cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep -i nvidia return?13:29
erythrocytefabian: :)13:29
fabianerythrocyte: do i have to understand that? :D13:30
jabbaflaccid: grep expression file13:30
erythrocytefabian: lol...never thought i'd bump into you on an IRC channel :) ...keep up the great work :)13:30
flaccidjabba: its piped13:31
mattycozeflaccid; yeah that's the max and it's still on that vesa card; flaccid; i've pasted these xorg.conf and xorg.0.log files; http://www.pastebin.org/37270 & http://www.pastebin.org/37271; that command returns 'nvidia'13:31
jabbaflaccid: correct. it does not need to be.13:31
flaccidreturn is not part of the command sorry13:31
* flaccid goes to look13:31
mattycozelol i know.13:31
jabbaflaccid: sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine. it used to be launching cat or cut or tr/sed used a lot of ram.13:32
danny_still going lol13:32
fabianerythrocyte: uuuuuuhm, maybe you mistake me for someone o.O13:32
jabbaflaccid: but you can just say grep -i nvidia /var/log/...13:32
flaccidmattycoze: problem is with the monitor not the video driver13:33
erythrocytefabian: oh... it's okay ... i thought you were fabian of http://linuxoutlaws.com/ ...they have a nice show btw :)13:33
mattycozeoh13:33
flaccidjabba: very good point. i'll do that now thanks!13:33
flaccidmattycoze: one sec. what resolution do you want. what monitor is it etc.?13:34
mattycozehang on i'll have to check those specs...13:34
jabbaflaccid: the other trick is grep -c to count matches instead of piping further to wc. so you'd say grep -c error /var/log/messages and it would tell you the number of matches. :)13:34
jabbasorry, i'll stop distracting13:35
danny_omg flaccid - sun-java6-plugin is not available13:35

dwidmann_laptopgenii: no, even better, the contents of /dev/sdb5 which i had thought I'd copied into RAM by copying it to somewhere else in the filesystem (it's a live disk ... ) weren't really copied, but linked or something, so when I deleted the partition I lost it.19:58

ign0ramusfrybye: not "full screen" (like F11), just a maximized window.  after some kde tweaking (i dumped kde4 for now), even maximized windows have borders and can be resized20:04
ign0ramusdany_21a: you can just make the border larger if you want in Window Decorations (iirc)20:05

DreadKnighthellhound: xD oh well, kwin will get cube in august for sure; desktop all is way better then the cube anyway22:00
DreadKnightPennycook: i'm not talking about desktop man or kwin xD22:01
DreadKnightPennycook: i sayd in the applications submenu called system/desktop effects22:01
hellhoundDreadKnight: oh ok  so currently kubuntu does not have kde4-window-decorator package available yet?22:01
PennycookDreadKnight: There's no such submenu in KDE4.  ...nevermind22:02

DreadKnightPennycook: :-) well yeah i still have remaining parts from kde3... cant get rid of all, yet..22:04
AreinuHow do I make my NTFS disk on SATA HDD mountable for any user? Right now only root can mount it :<22:07
mkquistAreinu: i think you need to change permissions in fstab22:09
AreinuHmm, alright, I'll try then22:09
etretyakAreinu: Are you sure that only root can mount it? Is it (NTFS disk) in your /etc/fstab file? If so -- comment it in /etc/fstab,22:09
etretyakAreinu: and mount your NTFS disk with Konqueror or Dolphin22:10
AreinuWell, when I try to mount it as my default non-root user it tells me to type root password22:10
etretyakAreinu: Not root password.. but your password22:10
etretyakAreinu: sudo22:10
Areinuwell, hmm, I mounted it anyway, but I want it to automount on boot22:11
mkquistAreinu: shouldn't ask for any password if user can mount...22:11
MakuseruCan someone recommend some USB Audio recording software?22:11
AreinuI checked /etc/fstab, unmounted disks are only ext3 one, swap, floppy and cdrom22:14

athlon1Yes, and then it works... I've mounted it as "mount -t ntfs-3g  /dev/sda1 /mnt/Part1 -o force"23:55
