WalzmynNikke2, looks like 690 is the smallest I see00:08
Nikke2gah00:08
Nikke2thats bad00:09
Nikke2maybe i can try to reconfigure xorg00:10
Nikke2but i dont remember the command00:10

nosrednaekimheh.... you probably ran an application from the same virtual terminal00:13
WalzmynAwsoonn, did you forget to do your sacrifices for this month?00:13
AwsoonnXD nope I threw gnome in the Volcano just as requested by the Torvolds-sama00:14

WalzmynAnybody here familiar with the game crossfire? i've just installed it, but can't figure out how to start it00:21
nosrednaekimhow did you install it?00:22
Walzmynadept00:22
nosrednaekimWalzmyn: the deb/package name was crossfire?00:22
Walzmynthere's a server and a client - $crossfire tries to start one of them, but i'm not sure which00:22
nosrednaekimisn't there a help or anything?00:22
Walzmynno, hang on00:23
Walzmynthere's crossfire-client, crossfire-server, etc00:23
geniinosrednaekim: Yes, crossfire is in the repos00:23
Walzmyni looked at their website, but there's nothing there on starting the game00:24
geniiWalzmyn: You want the client if connecting to some remote box as server. Other wise you run the server and then the client to connect to it00:24
nosrednaekimWalzmyn: ok, run "dpkg -L crossfire-client" and see what the executable in /usr/bin is called00:24
geniiTheir wiki at http://wiki.metalforge.net/doku.php/faq says crossclient is the binary00:26
WalzmynSorry, supper got ready about the same time the 4 month-old exploded - i'm back00:28
Walzmynnosrednaekim, that dosen't list anything in /usr/bin00:29
geniiWalzmyn: Perhaps see thir wiki at http://wiki.metalforge.net/doku.php/faq00:31
Walzmyngenii, allready there, but haven't found anything00:31
geniiWalzmyn: Try issuing: crossclient -h00:32
Walzmynok, i've got the client working in the konsole00:33
geniiWalzmyn: Looks like you need to specify a server to connect to unless you are running also the server locally00:33
Walzmyngenii, well, that was my plan00:34
Walzmynso far all i can get the client to do is tell me i'm giving it the wrong input. going to read up on their wiki now00:34
geniiWalzmyn: crossfire -server -detach            then         crossclient -server "yourcomputername"00:35
Walzmynthanks00:35

comodocan someone help me out i'm trying to install themes from kdelook.org but i cant figure out how to get them to install06:18
Dr_willisYou could of allready asked it by now chipbuddy  :)  heh heh06:18
Dr_williscomodo,  depenind on what they are. they need to be compiled and installed like other programs.06:18
chipbuddyi wasn't sure if anyone was in the room. damn... there i go wasting some more time06:18
daskreechcomodo: They probably have a README or an INSTALL file06:18
chipbuddy i have a dell motherboard that is rated for a certain speed of ram, and some ram sticks that are definitely not the speed the mobo wants. is there any chance i can use the ram anyway? or is it 100% not going to work?06:19
daskreechchipbuddy: can they physically fit?06:19
comodoyes i click on the theme and it says install kde theme but it wont open anything?06:19
comodojust bounces for a second and gos away06:19
Dr_willischipbuddy,  depends - in theory the mb should 'slow down' to accept them. but ive seen where that dident happen and you ended up with a flakey system.06:19
chipbuddyyeah, the socket is fine. there are enough slots, and using the ram won't put it over the mobo maximum06:20
Dr_williscomodo,  yoyu dont just 'click' on them . You most likelyt must use the shell and command line. and compile/install them as one would other programs from source.06:20
chipbuddyso, if the system is flakey, is there a chance i'll fry something? or can i just swap out the ram and fix everything06:20
daskreechchipbuddy: they will work then06:20
Dr_williscomodo,  themes 'parts' for kde - are a bit more complex then just packages of image files.06:20
daskreechchipbuddy: In your interest to not depend on that for a long term solution06:21
chipbuddywohoo! that's exciting. yeah the dell support person didn't bother telling met hat at all.06:21
se7en___start kcontrol and go to theme or icon theme or whatever theme you want to install and klick on the install new theme button comodo06:21
chipbuddydarkreech why wouldn't it be a long term solution?06:21
rishadhi is there a way by which i can replace my existing kubuntu kde4 setup with the kde4 from subversion. i am fully aware that kde4 is not stable etc etc and i know how to compile kde 4 from source. i already have some binaries with svn metadata ready to extract. so how do i safely remove everything but some dependencies?06:22
comodothank you se7en and dr_willis06:22
daskreechchipbuddy: cause a good Mobo maker will allow it but the power usage etc will be optimized for speeds the board advertises. And if you have paid for better performance then persue it06:23
se7en___np06:23
Dr_willisicon themes you can just drag/drop - color schemes also drag/drop.. window decor and widgets are not as simple.06:23
daskreechchipbuddy: Bad mobo manufacturers will have it work but it will be flaky and you probably can't trust that the data won't be corrupted from time to time causing at best crashouts and at worst long periods of really bad data being fed to you and your programs06:24
chipbuddydarkreech, i really didn't pay for anything. this is my fiance's computer, and i had some extra sticks of ram lying around. i'll be quadrupling her memory b making this upgrade06:24
rishadanybody?06:24
chipbuddyah... ok that would be bad.06:24
daskreechchipbuddy: having said that Dell has not really been known for good mobos06:24
daskreechchipbuddy: Woah woah06:24
daskreechchipbuddy: You are mixing memory modules?06:24
chipbuddyno. i'll be removing what is there, and replacing it with 2 matching sticks06:25
daskreechlike a pair of 400 Mhz with 33 Mhz ?06:25
daskreech333 Mhz ?06:25
daskreechOh ok06:25
daskreechYeah I would say jump back and forth a little bit06:25
chipbuddyjump back and forth?06:25
daskreechtry it with two weeks of gobs of slow RAM and two weeks with smaller amounts of Fast RAM06:26
daskreechsee which fits your usage patterns better06:26
daskreechfor some folks having Fast RAM is all that matters06:26
daskreechfor some it will be having loads of it available06:26
daskreechCourse most people like have Loads of Fast RAM :)06:26
Dr_willisonce you hit SWAP - the fastest ram in the world will not help much. :)06:27
chipbuddythe sticks i'm putting in have more RAM and are faster... the mobo will step it down, but it wouldn't get any slower than what is already there, right?06:27
Dr_willischipbuddy,  in theory. :)06:27
daskreechDr_willis: Yeah but some people won't hit swap but can really feel the slower memory06:28
chipbuddywell... i'll just be cautiously optimistic at this point. is there any way i can run some kind of test to see if i'm getting any corruption problems?06:28
daskreechchipbuddy: an Kubuntu Live Cd running Memorty test overnight :)06:28
daskreechif that keeps up with no failures then you should be good06:29

phoenixzHi there, is there anything known about kontact being *extremely* instable on kubuntu (either KDE3 or KDE4) ??  On average, kontact can crash after 2 seconds or 5 minutes, usually there is no real indication how or why.. it just crashes all the time, easily some 20 times a day.. :(17:04
phoenixzAsked in the kontact channel, and they told me it should run without problems, at least, it does so with them, so maybe its the OS..17:04

PhilRod_phoenixz: perhaps you have one rogue message somewhere that's causing the crash. Can you get backtraces from the crashes? Are they all the same?17:14
PhilRod_phoenixz: (you'll need kdepim-dbg and kdelibs-dbg installed to get useful backtraces)17:16
phoenixzPhilRod_> don't think so... got different crashes for different reasons.. sometimes I just start kontact and don't look at it.. Im working in anohter program and BOOM, there it goes17:16
