pembscould someone explain why i seem to have lost 7GB of space, please. i have 160GB hard drive (ie in reality 149+); i have heron installed and moved in some files gparted confimrs i am using 10Gb plus 5-77 as swap file so i should have 133gb free. iWhen i browse folders though I only have 126 free. I've noticed this since the install I seem to be missing about 7gb.17:34
blue-frogpembs: ext3 keeps 5% for root17:35
pembsblue-frog: ok thanks, so thats permanently  reserved?17:35
blue-frogman tune2fs if you want to have less kept, but beware having some space leftover helps your computer17:36
pembsthanks17:36
pembsanother question. I cant seem to get terminal to see my external drive. the drive mounts and i can use the folders to move things around, but whenever i have typed a terminal command, I can't seem to get it to communicate with the external drive. I did one command, I  can't recall which to tell me the external media and the drive came up in blue17:38

sobersabrehola, ompaul22:29
sobersabreompaul: more info on my system: it's a clean install of 8.04 + all upgrades upto today.22:30
sobersabreI made sure I've generated the keys AFTRER upgrading the damn sshd22:30
sobersabreI've pushed the public and private key to the debian client.22:31
sobersabrejust in case ubuntu doesn't like debian-generated ones.22:31
sobersabreand made them ~/.ssh/id_dsa (As private key), and owned by connecting user, and moded as 600.22:32
sobersabrethe public key's been added to /root/.ssh/authorized_keys22:32
sobersabreI've even created a link /root/.ssh/authorized_keys222:33
sobersabrejust in case...22:33
ompaulwhich is the server?22:34
ompaulubuntu is server?22:35
* ompaul waits a moment22:36
ompaulsobersabre, ?22:36
sobersabreyep..22:37
sobersabreubuntu is the server.22:37
sobersabredebian 4.0 (also updated && upgraded ) is a client, connecting as root22:37
ompaulok so you made a comment about ~/.ssh/id_dsa22:38
ompaulpersonally I use rsa but it should be of no merit ;-)22:38
sobersabreompaul: lemme try rsa...22:39
sobersabreif it works, something is fishy in ssh package.22:39
ompaulsobersabre, it makes no odds what is wrong is the key is not in right package22:39
ompaulsorry22:39
ompaulplace22:39
ompaulsobersabre, firstly openssh-server is running on ubuntu?22:40
ompaulsobersabre, remember I don't know what your keystrokes were so I don't know if you got it all right (well obviously you did not ;-()22:40
sobersabreompaul: RSA key worked.22:41
sobersabreha!22:41
sobersabreso... it IS a mess in SSH package.22:41
sobersabrehow do I bugreport ?22:41
ompaullaunchpad.net22:42
sobersabreI think I've got an account there...22:42
ompaulyou will do if you don't ;-)22:42
ompaulhehehe22:42
ompaulI'll leave it with you22:42
ompaulhave fun22:42
sobersabrethanks for "holding hands" :)22:42
sobersabreI'm pissed off, I thought I'd finish till now something I'm only now starting :(22:43
sobersabreI think it should be titled "dsa keys generated by ubuntu-8.04 openssh package are regected as being from vulnerable server.22:43
ompaulno it would say that it was rejecting it22:45
ompaulwhat it said was it could not find them22:45
sobersabrehmm... it's weirder.22:46
ompaulsobersabre, I would nuke the dsa keys and start again22:50
ompaulsobersabre, you can't afford to get it wrong22:50
sobersabreompaul: this is not the 1st time or day I am using keys.22:57
sobersabreI didn't do any errors on that one.22:57
sobersabreI made 3 repeatitions on generation, copy, retry.22:57
ompaulsobersabre, you got bug22:57
sobersabreso, I am CERTAIN the problem is with DSA handling.22:57
sobersabreI don't have time to debug it really.22:58
sobersabreso, I've reported.22:58
sobersabreompaul: can you try this, and confirm I'm wrong ?22:59
sobersabreI mean try using dsa key, and login as root with it... ?22:59
ompaulna I don't do root23:00
ompaulat all23:00
ompaulever23:00
ompaulmy virtual consoles do not allow virtual root23:01
ompaulbut real ones do :)23:01
sobersabrethis only means you're surely not into clusters....23:02
sobersabreI don't root into open servers.23:02
sobersabrebut intern. networks, etc. is something else.23:02
ompaulsobersabre, I have multiple desktop servers and I server multiple desktops ;-) with ancillary services23:04
ompaulso correct I don't do clusters given the geographical nature of the company23:05
sobersabrehmmm... whatever the 1st sentence means...23:05
sobersabre:)23:05
ompaulsobersabre, I don't serve applications much, I serve wmaker desktops or gnome or kde depending on the person / role23:06
sobersabreyou mean you're running a GDM/XDM over IP ?23:06
sobersabreI mean, remote graphic logins...23:07
sobersabreor VNC ?23:07
