=== MythbuntuGuest07 is now known as pobski [01:09] I've found several people with a similar problem as me on various forums and the mythtv-users mailing list -- all are pretty much unresolved, but a handful of people say, "It works for me." It's S/PDIF output on a 690G/SB600 motherboard (the Asus M2A-VM HDMI, specifically). 2-channel digital audio works fine, but not 6-channel from mythtv. From the command line, `mplayer -channels 6 -ac hwdts test.dts` and `mplayer -channels 6 [01:09] In MythTV, the sensible settings seem to be -- audio device: ALSA:default; passthrough device: ALSA:iec956; Max audio channels: 5.1; Enable AC3 and DTS to SPDIF passthrough; Mixer Device: ALSA:default. I get no audio out with those settings. In fact the only audio I've ever managed to get with the passthrough enabled is with Passthrough output device: "Default", and then it's just 2-channel digital noise. [01:09] Output of my aplay -lL is at http://pastebin.com/d631a4d4 [01:10] anyone in a similar boat? [01:19] just realized I have been testing output with a DVD.. just tried a 5.1 ATSC signal, and not even 2-channel output with passthrough unchecked. Noise with passthrough checked. [01:23] but standard def, stereo TV broadcasts still play 2 channels on my receiver [01:32] Hello, everyone. I'm setting up a new Mythbuntu machine and everything's progressing smoothly thus far. I'm considering subscribing to SchedulesDirect but, since I previously used the cost-free Zap2It scheduling information, I was wondering if there were any comparable alternatives. I don't see any offered demonstration periods for SchedulesDirect and I am wary of purchasing data for a year at X cost without knowing the reliab [01:33] JaredBland, everyone in north america is using it [01:33] :) [01:33] JaredBland: I've not used SD, but those who do highly recommend it, and as I understand it it works just like the old Zap2It [01:33] JaredBland, its provided from Zap2It [01:34] schedulesdirect = zap2it? [01:34] JaredBland, no, the data is just from Zap2IT [01:34] SD is a non-profit org that buys the data and resells the licenses to it [01:34] Why is Zap2It no longer providing data freely? [01:35] folks were abusing the free priveleges [01:35] basically [01:36] at $20 a year, it's almost free still. Very worth it if you have a lot of channels. [01:36] How do they abuse them? I heard there was an issue with OEMs charging === MythbuntuGuest88 is now known as pobski [01:37] I've 69 analog channels of which I use maybe 5, sparingly. One person in the house watches MSNBC for 30 minutes no more than twice a week, and I like The Outer Limits and X Files [01:37] for anyone that was watching irc earlier, i had the problem with the pvr 150 not showing anything but static. [01:37] $20 isn't much but compared to free with Vista Media Center [01:37] turns out i'm an idiot and messed up my config when installing lol [01:37] JaredBland, buy SD and move on...its seriously not worth this much thought, its $20 [01:38] Yeah, you're right [01:38] Just was wondering if there were any other options [01:38] nope [01:38] the data is good and the service is cheap [01:41] JaredBland, all the other alternative are crap, violate TOS, and don't work very well [01:41] plus they break when the site changes a little bit [01:41] alright [01:45] if broadcasters in your area send programming information along the digital signal, mythtv can use that to populate the guide, but it's usually not terribly reliable and the mainstream networks tend to only send 4-6 hours worth of data. [01:45] you mentioned analog tuner, though. [01:46] Yes, standard analog cable [01:48] Oh, great. Just finished setting it all up and now I can't get audio out through my SPDIF cable [01:49] I tried ALSA:default and ALSA:spdif. [01:52] quick question, if you are watching tv through the mythtv frontend and it needs to record a scheduled program, does the schedule take precedent? [01:53] pobski: When I am in that situation, it prompts me [01:53] "record the scheduled program ,and watch it", "record the scheduled program and return to the main menu" (or something like that), or "don't record, I want to watch TV" [01:53] about 30 seconds before the recording is due to start [01:54] awesome [01:54] this setup seems pretty incredible, i'm glad i found my way to it [01:54] seems to be exactly what i was looking for [01:56] only thing i kind of want different is the music player [01:57] is there any player with an interface similar to winamp? [01:58] JaredBland: which audio chipset are you using? I'm having spdif problems, too [01:59] *grumble* alc883 *grumble* [02:07] It's a cmedia, let me check the model [02:10] My keyboard just stopped working too [02:10] CMI8768 [02:16] ah [02:17] maybe there's hope for me if you're having trouble with spdif, too - maybe it's not hardware related [02:26] Yeah, what hopefully wonderful news. [02:29] teehee [02:44] Argh, can't play my retail DVDs either. [02:53] I had to reboot when after I installed the proprietary codecs when I set up my mythbuntu box [06:01] HI [06:01] Any one online? [06:13] I have two major, but I'm sure basic, issues. TV-out is not working out of the WinTV PVR-350 on Mythbuntu 8.04 and also I have a cable box, so how do I connect the mythbox to my cable setup properly? [06:15] for the cable box, either via firewire or a PVR-150 [06:17] I'm in new york and the time warner cable box I have, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100, does not have a firewire jack. and by pvr-150, are you saying the 350 won't work? [06:17] the cable box does have a usb slot, but my pvr-350 does not have a firewire or usb slot [06:18] yes the PVR-350 will work [06:18] i tried taking the cable box out of the equationg, but I lose half of my channels when I do that(and I have basic cable) [06:18] do you have an HD cable box? [06:18] no i do not [06:18] ok [06:19] then just hook the cable box up to the PVR-350 by way of composite (or svideo, or coax) [06:19] I was able to get basic channels (in new york that is 2,4,5,7,9,11, 13) but any cable channels weren't coming up [06:20] when I do the "cable-out"(the cable that would run to the television) and plug it into the 350 it gets NO signal [06:20] i have the settings setup for us-cable... should i have tried cable-hrc? [06:21] what does HRC stand for? sorry for sounding like such a n00b, this is just a project i've never done before [06:21] and the 350's composite is only for output [06:22] sec [06:22] thanks [06:22] you could use the svideo in port? [06:23] i wish i could, but cable box has no s-video out [06:23] ah [06:23] ok [06:23] so for coax [06:23] you will only get one channel and will have to blast to change the channel on the cable box [06:23] blast? [06:23] ir blasting [06:24] otherwise how will the cable box change channels? [06:24] thats the other area that i was confused about [06:25] i gotta be able to record one channels, while watching another. the pvr-350 has a remote, the cable box has a remote... i was overwhelmed considering i have only one cable signal [06:25] err [06:25] you won't be able to watch one while recording another [06:25] unless [06:25] but right now I just want two basic things, to have all my channels up to channel 106, and be able to watch my tv(which is currently disconnected) [06:25] you don't use the cable box [06:26] ahhhh...crap [06:26] time warner out here... their signal requires the box, it's all heavily filtered [06:26] you will need a cable box for each concurrent channel being recorded/watched [06:26] well you should get up to like 72? [06:26] i can't get RCN(another company) who just gives you up to channel 99 without a box [06:26] yeah but the frontend could only show the basic channels [06:27] i couldn't watch other channels like MTV(channel 20) [06:27] wait [06:27] johnnystr: depends on where you are. I too can only get basic channels. [06:27] have you hooked the cable up directly to your TV without the cable box? [06:27] yes, oldschol black and white fuzzies(CRT tv) [06:28] johnnystr, are you saying that the mythbox was only getting channels 1-13 [06:28] it had a great signal strength for channels up to 125, but could not display them(only snow) [06:28] channels 2-13 could watch just fine [06:28] hmm [06:29] sounds like it was set to broadcast settings and not cable settings [06:29] and his is directly through the cable-in cable, not through box. with box, i get NO channels [06:29] tgm4883_laptop: not necessarily [06:29] well i made sure to select us-cable [06:29] i read somewhere about us-cable-hrc... but I was like, "whats cable-HaRdCore"? [06:30] j/k i don't know what HRC stands for [06:30] harmonically related carriers [06:31] i'd try cable hrc since the regular cable one didn't work [06:33] trying that now, booting up the myth box [06:33] while i'm waiting on that, any clue as to why the tv-out function does not work? [06:34] i'm sure someone here has that same pvr-350 card and running mythbuntu....hopefully [06:35] johnnystr, did you see the wiki on the PVR-350 video out? [06:35] no i was reading the basic mythbuntu documentation and the manual that came with the card [06:36] i will look that up now if thats what you suggest [06:39] foxbuntu: do you have the link, i'm only finding generic hauppauge wiki's [06:40] johnnystr, yeah...let me find it [06:41] johnnystr, http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_PVR-350#Displaying_X_on_the_PVR-350_video_output [06:41] that should do it [06:43] hmmm [06:44] it seems that this solves a resolution issue... but mine doesn't seem to get any signal at all, doyou think this wills till resolve it? [06:50] johnnystr, there are several issues that deals with [06:51] run through it and we can see where that lands you [06:54] now if I get the cable box and the mythbox working well together.... which remote do I use to watch tv? the cable box remote or the pvr-350 remote? tgm4883_laptop mentioned IR blasting, what is that? [06:58] ugh, us cable-hrc with cable-in (no cable box) gives me static and snow [06:59] so i guess uscable is the right choice... just won't work through the cable box [07:00] what is us cable-irc? [07:03] incrementally related carriers [07:04] ok. going to try that one now [07:04] trying to get past this cable box issue first before i handle the tv out issue [07:39] hi everyone [07:51] foxbuntu: i got tv-out working! [07:52] foxbuntu: but the area to adjust the size of the overscan is not where the wiki says it is [07:52] need to fix it, can't see the channel numbers, they seem to be off screen [08:01] a simple question, will I run into problems trying to get things to work on my TV with an ATI card? [08:01] seems to me that nvidia is the only well supported card for these sorts of things... [08:43] Hi, I'm having a really annoying problem with my mythbuntu 8.04 installation. I have a Hauppage Win-nova t-500 dvb-tcard. The mythbuntu installation doesn't recognize this card. When I chose dvb card V3.x in setup it just fails to probe the card for info. However I can watch tv just fine in vlc fed from the card. [12:42] could someone post the permissions of /var/lib for me? [12:44] Hi guys.. I think i screwd up my system. When it boots, it doesn't boot fully. I see a clean black desktop with a mousepointer. To get it to work i have to switch to a different TTY and do "modprobe snd-ca0106" and startx.. then it works.... how can i fix this? [13:40] hey, I am having trouble running mythtv under my kubuntu setup, I am getting the following errors after running through the backend setup and then attempting to press the Watch TV button at the frontend [13:40] 2008-06-08 22:37:36.626 Connecting to backend server: 127.0.0.1:3306 (try 1 of 5) [13:40] 2008-06-08 22:37:36.627 MythSocket(834f420:25): Protocol error: '@' is not a valid size prefix. 80 bytes pending. [13:40] 2008-06-08 22:37:36.627 Unexpected response to MYTH_PROTO_VERSION: [14:45] hello [14:48] can anyone help me with my mythbuntu ? [14:48] i have skystar 2 [14:50] nobody ? [14:56] is anybody here ? [16:07] Number 1 in the SRUs was resolved when I installed a newer version of the NVIDIA beta driver. === rmurphy is now known as orificium [16:09] Can anyone tell what the difference is between the release candidate ISO and the regular 8.04 ISO? [16:09] Which is newer? [16:12] nevermind. I think I understand. [16:33] hello all :) [16:34] i'm trying to get my remote working can anybody help me out. I got it working yesterday after hours lol but today it's not working [16:42] heeeeeellllllooooooooooooo:) [16:56] http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/18493/ [16:57] if anybody can help please :-) [17:28] is anybody here [17:28] is anybody ever here lol [19:00] hello [19:00] I am having some trouble with transcoding... is there anyone who can help me? [19:00] I need just some advice.. [19:09] raslac? [19:09] anybody here? [19:11] halfway [19:11] :) [19:11] was in the middle of typing quite a bit in -users as you can see [19:12] yeah, I saw it.. [19:12] I pvt u [21:08] re [21:08] yay for new "weekly" fixes builds. they'll show up in a few hours [21:09] nice, I started running them a few days ago [21:12] Text conflict in debian/control [21:12] dammit [21:46] hi, i'm installing mythbuntu and when I run the alternate install it says "no disk drive was detected". I have a SATA drive in there... [22:17] alright, no weekly builds tonight, i need to fix some conflicts. [22:18] soon. [22:18] back for a bit. [22:19] anyone have any suggestions why my mythtv won't do ac3/dts passthrough, but mplayer / aplay do just fine? I've tried just about every audio option combination possible in mythtv, and some creative ones, too [22:20] *spdif [22:21] I have mine working well [22:21] enabled the IEC958 control in alsamixer [22:21] check. [22:21] let me check my settings [22:21] er, yes. [22:22] I was meaning "check" as "yes" [22:22] although my iec958 has only options On or Mute.. no PCM Out like a few folks have posted [22:23] on your frontend, setup, general, 3rd page... [22:23] ya mine too, just unmute it [22:23] yep [22:23] you let your stereo control the volume [22:23] output device: alsa:spdif [22:23] passthrough: alsa:iec958 [22:23] max audio stereo, upmix passive [22:24] all boxes under that are checked except aggressive sound card buffering [22:24] mixer device alsa: default. mixer controls: pcm [22:24] I've tried those settings but let me configure again [22:24] make sure you choose stereo [22:24] if I choose 5 channel, it doesn't work [22:25] k. I know I've tried that, to [22:25] but it passes through the correct surround sound [22:25] let's see if I've tried all those combinations together :) [22:25] *nod* I actually expect that for digital passthrough [22:26] do you have more than one digital audio output on your box? [22:26] it might be using the one you aren't using [22:28] only one digital audio.. ok, you said "let your stereo control the volume" Is that a setting somewhere? since you said to enable "Use internal volume control" [22:30] good evening from Scotlanf [22:30] Scotland [22:31] did anyone have their mythfrontend taking a full core at 100%? [22:31] my symptoms are still the same rhpot.. In every scenario, when I have Passthroughs enabled I get no audio.. with your config, my receiver switches to 6channel mode, but no audio. [22:31] mine is doing it [22:31] I can;t say since when, as I've been traveling quite a lot [22:32] oops, every scenario except when I have audio device and passthrough as default.. I get digital noise as output [22:32] and the only stuff I did to the box is updates from -fixes [22:33] on top of regular ubuntu -security -updates -backports -medibuntu 8.04 stuff [22:33] Hi, my mythtv backend setup crashes when I scan for channels [22:33] logs are quite non-specific [22:33] I saw some messages about that in the mailing list, camelreef, but I didn't really pay much attention to them since it wasn't affecting me :) [22:34] raslac: ya I have internal controls enabled (left over from before) but they no longer do anything [22:34] does anyone know what my problem is [22:34] camelreef: playing livetv or recordings? [22:34] rhpot1991, doing absolutely nothing [22:34] as soon as it starts [22:35] might be some opengl menu stuff, but sounds unlikely [22:35] te system is far from new [22:35] the [22:35] anyone? [22:36] vbman11: maybe you have more than one sound device and alsa is using the wrong one as default? [22:36] camelreef: try using Qt as the paint engine, setup > appearance [22:36] KillerKiwi2005: you meant raslac [22:36] lol yes sorry [22:36] killerkiwi2005: mabey, i'll check [22:37] thats kinda what I was getting at with the more than one digital output [22:37] lemme see if my pastebin is still up [22:37] http://pastebin.com/d631a4d4 [22:38] mplayer -channels 6 -ac hwac3 test.ac3 works splendidly [22:38] killerkiwi2005:nope, what is the command for mythtv backend setup? [22:38] as does aplay -D iec958 test.wav [22:39] ahhh mythsetup ? [22:39] ok [22:39] not sure not have my myth machine here [22:39] vbman11: mythtv-setup [22:39] rhpot1991:thanks [22:40] rhpot1991, going to test [22:42] so after running it in terminal I got: * Stopping MythTV server: mythbackend [ OK ] [22:42] * Restarting MythTV server: mythbackend No /usr/bin/mythbackend found running; none killed. [22:42] [ OK ] [22:43] when I use mythtv without passthrough enabled to play 6channel format, output on the spdif port is 2 channels of the 6 (no voice track on center speaker, for example). Also no audio on 6channel ATSC streams. But 2 channel SD streams work. With passthrough enabled, no audio at all, except for noise if I have devices configured to default. [22:44] vbman11: that sounds like a side-effect of the backend crashing. [22:44] yea [22:45] vbman11: if it's running now, I wouldn't worry about that message much [22:45] where is the mythtv log [22:45] for backend [22:45] /var/log/mythtv [22:45] ohh duh [22:47] my live and db group folders arn't writeable [22:48] going to take a shower whilst I lurk. bbiab [22:49] how do i change the permisions for the folders (chmod?) [22:51] the log also says: UPnpMedia: BuildMediaMap - no VideoStartupDir set, skipping scan. [22:51] how do i set the videostartupdir and to what [22:52] rhpot1991? === nico_ is now known as camelreef [23:03] rhpot1991, did you get all that, or did my wi-fi AP change make me disconnect? [23:05] camelreef: do you know how to fix my problem [23:05] vbman11, what is your problem ? [23:06] chances are I don;t, but let's see first [23:06] when I scan for channels in the mythtv backend setup it crashes [23:06] what tuner card ? [23:06] PVR, DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-C, where ? [23:07] ATSC ? [23:07] sabrent saa7134 analog, works perfectly in tvtime [23:07] ATSC [23:07] I know a bit of DVB-T and DVB-S, nothing else [23:08] well, analog or ATSC ? [23:08] not that it matters, as I can;t really help on this... [23:08] sorry [23:08] I ment analog [23:08] cable [23:09] my knowledge is specialised on my own system [23:09] ohh!!! I think I know whats wrong, I had a brain fart and set it to ATSC and cable! [23:09] I've learned tons abut the Nova-T-500 dual DVB-t, for example [23:10] on this one I can greatly help [23:10] vbman11, ah, I indirectly helped ! Woohoo ! [23:10] * camelreef is so proud ;o) [23:11] wait, nevermind, I have everything set correctly [23:11] sorry [23:11] oh wel... [23:11] false alarm [23:11] sorry I can't help you [23:11] off to bed [23:11] salright [23:12] bed?, ohh different time zone [23:12] 4:13 here [23:13] ok, there are 53 other users and none can help me?! [23:26] Not everyone is somewhere it is the daytime/not everyone knows every answer/some people use the ignore function when people are impatient [23:28] VBMan, perhaps? [23:28] What is the issue? [23:37] probably american [23:42] haha [23:42] yep [23:45] ?
