darthanubisit makes it too easy00:15
avihaybtgm4883_laptop: Hi, I think I figured out why the mythubunto didn't work00:25
avihaybit gan from the cd burner, and in the new 8.04 kernel undoes what the previous kernel did with emulating scasi on ide, somth like that00:26
avihaybgan->00:26
avihaybadding the kernel boot option all_generic_ide should solve it. untested.00:27
geraldnunntgm4883_laptop: Don't know if you remember, but you were helping me with upgrading lirc last weekend and we ran into some issues. I'm pleased to say I finally got it working now, thanks again for the help.00:33
dan__hey i've got an interesting (at least in my mind) question about installing a mythbuntu diskless server on an *old Debian box*03:06
dan__i've read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV/Install/Hardy/Diskless but am a little curious because the LTSP plugins on the Debian box don't include any of the mythbuntu stuff03:07
dan__does anyone have any ideas?03:07
dan__my guess as to why it's different is because i installed ltsp-server from the Debian package, not the mythbuntu03:08
Lud7773trying to program my remote to do "Previous channel" does anyone know which context and action I have to reference in "edit keys" that will do this action for me?04:09

waxhead_it's just getting better... :-/08:38
waxhead_Hm... video play back is choppy and spdif out isn't working...09:25
jduggantwo unrelated problems no doubt, choppy video is 9 times out of 10 video driver related09:28
waxhead_jduggan: likely... it's an ATI card...09:28
waxhead_I have the restricted driver installed09:29
waxhead_what's the simplest problem to fix?  do that first.. :)09:29
jduggani hear mixed results about ATI - ive heard recent people saying its not so bad, but since forever its always been said if you want good video in linux steer clear09:29
jdugganunfortunately i have no experience with ATI09:29
jdugganhowever, try the bleeding edge drivers09:30
waxhead_yeah, nvidia seem to be the one to go with...09:30
jduggani heard a developer say theyre not so bad09:30
waxhead_jduggan: I think it's down to the support given by the manufacters..09:30
waxhead_nvidia are a little better at it...09:30
waxhead_where do I look to setup spdif out?09:31
jdugganhave you checked the mythtv wiki?09:33
jdugganhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Configuring_Digital_Sound_with_AC3_and_SPDIF09:33
waxhead_OK.. thanks.09:33
waxhead_jduggan: got sound coming out now...09:41
waxhead_right..10:25
waxhead_what's the best nvidia card for HD output?10:26
waxhead_I'm over this ATI card already...10:26
hadsAny relatively new card should be fine.10:27
jduggananything 5200 FX or newer with dvi output :)13:17
jdugganso you can convert into HDMI :)13:17
jbroome.014:12
raslachi folks - just wanted to follow up with my spdif passthrough on intel-hda (ALC883)  problems.. I finally found the clue in http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/225991 I had to set my audio output device as "ALSA:iec958:CARD=0,AES0=0x6,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2". That makes everything work like a charm.15:39

tgm4883_laptopi've never used the sticky bit, further, upon googling for information on it it appears that it was A) "No version of Linux has ever supported the traditional behavior." and B) obsoleted19:35
