tanstaafl32sorry for the lack of wind up:  this is a new install, i can get the schedules, etc, just no live video01:04
petriborgquestion / opinions -- is the mythbuntu metapackage any good? any experiences w/ installing it on an 8.04 ubuntu desktop would be much appreciated -- I'd really like to avoid screwing up my raid and other development :-)02:16
petriborganyone?02:20
tgm4883_laptoppetriborg, yea we tend to think it's pretty good.  Although what you probably should do is install mythbuntu-control-centre and configure from there03:19
petriborgthis is different from the http://mythbuntu.org/existing-ubuntu  ?03:22
petriborgi just want to make sure i'm not going to hose my existing setup since it is my primary machine, i'm also building a second box which I'm intending as a front end -- I'm thinking it might be better to do that as a front/back if nothing else but for practice...03:27
petriborgthats for tgm4883_laptop i suppose03:35

ChrisC35i have to clone hg or something03:50
ChrisC35what is mythdora?03:56
ChrisC35what is better mythdora or mythbuntu03:57
ChrisC35is anyone here?04:01
petriborgyeah but i don't know a damn thing about mythdora vs mythbuntu :-)04:02
petriborgi'm just trying to figure out if its a bad idea to install myth on a primary server which i use, or if its robust enough not to send my system in to the drink04:03
ChrisC35cant help u there04:06
geraldnunnDumb question, but when you are using the EPG with the LiveTV preview, is there any way to directly jump the EPG to a specific channel? I'd like to type '528' on the remote and have the guide jump to that channel04:54
geraldnunnNever mind, just found it in settings04:56
ChrisC35if it says 'unable to probe' does that mean the tv tuner is not working (or mythbuntu cant recognize it)?05:37
foxbuntuChrisC35, what type of tuner is it?05:38
SolarbabyI've never been able to probe..  but then again I use a usb IR device to switch the channels on my satalite05:38
ChrisC35hvr-160005:40
ChrisC35i cloned and compiled hg05:40
ChrisC35and install05:41
ChrisC35rebooted05:41
foxbuntuChrisC35, the driver is still only beta...its not well supported yet05:41
foxbuntuhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_HVR-160005:41
ChrisC35well i thought i did install the v4l-dvb drivers05:46
foxbuntuhad you not?05:47
ChrisC35but when i go to configure a mpeg-2 source, it just says unable to probe05:47
ChrisC35yes i did hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb05:47
ChrisC35make and make install05:48
foxbuntuChrisC35, well sorry I really can't be of much help on the matter, I suggest the forums05:57
happyHowdy, I have a tv tuner related question. I have a Compro T750F (I am assuming it has the same drivers as the T750). From what I can gather V4L project supports this as card 139, unfortunately the /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.saa7134 list only goes to 132. My Kernel version is 2.6.25-6 (well it should be at least, that is what I tried upgrading too from 2.6.24-18). I would like to know the best method of getting the new saa7134 dr07:53
happyivers into a custom kernel of some kind...07:53
sebrockI need some help starting NFS on boot with fstab... I get mount.nfs: internal error. Guessing it has to do with networking starting to late...08:16
sebrockI have tried movinf stuff in rc.2 but to no avail08:16
sebrockAm I the only one experiencing problems with NFS mounts on boot here?09:22
happysebrock, I have not even reached that point =P09:22
sebrockhappy, what do you mean?09:29
source_codehello everyone. is it possible to install mythtv 0.20. version on ubuntu 8.0409:37
superm1not via packages09:37
superm1you'll have to do it from source if you want to09:37
source_codei am actually trying to get mythtv frontend to run on my xbox09:38
superm1well if i were you i'd just compile 0.21 for the xbox09:38
superm1rather than 0.20 for ubuntu09:38
source_codevia xbmc or xebian but failed so far. do you have any suggestions for 0.21 working with xbmc or xebian09:39
superm1there are lots of nicities integration wise that come with the packages on ubuntu09:39
superm1can't say i've ever had to work with an xbox09:39
superm1sorry09:39
source_codei read somewhere that mythtv versions are same for all branched projects too e.g xbmcmythtv. meaning xbmcmythtv 0.20 will only work for backend 0.2009:41
superm1which is true, but if you have a general purpose linux distro installed09:43
superm1like xebian09:43
superm1you can build mythtv at least09:43
superm1for the 0.21 version09:43
source_codeas frontend...?09:43
superm1yeah09:44
Solarbabysuperm1: I've missed you12:06
lagaooh, how cute :)12:07
SolarbabyI finally got around to rebuilding a mythbox12:08
Solarbabyso now the fun begins!12:08
baalsgateSolarbaby with the new disrto it is getting very easy to get a myth box goin12:53
baalsgatecompared to installing it three years ago that is12:55
baalsgategoing from 7.10 to 8.04 caused a few new problems but fixed many old ones , menus are so much faster now12:57
baalsgateand cron jobs actualy work12:57
baalsgatepadtokeys for imon not in the lirc was a disapointment but otherwise it all looks to be happy12:58
baalsgateupgrade process would have been much easier if i didnt need to mess with custom lirc builds but other than that im happy13:00
Solarbabyfor some reason im having a little trouble getting my Hauppauge 350 working13:09
Solarbabyweird13:09
SolarbabyI guess I really should give the log files a look over13:09
SolarbabyHey ..  Farout.. Log Files are My Friends!13:24
propagandhiis this channel  for users?14:27
propagandhii've got a problem where i cannot adjust the volume when watching live tv, but when watching movies etc it works fine14:28
petriborgit is the channel, no idea about problem though :-)14:29
petriborganyone know what myth uses expect for?14:30
propagandhipetriborg: ok thanks14:30
bibabenjohello, is somebody there who has experience with configuring lirc?15:21
laga!ask15:22
lagajust ask a question :)15:22
|gunni|Hi there. I got a problem running mythtv-backend on an AMD K6-2 machine. Is it a bug, or is it just that i586 is not supported and i686 is minimum?15:23
lagayes15:24
laga(to the latter)15:24
|gunni|i686 is minimum?15:24
|gunni|Do you know if it should work on debian then?15:24
lagayes15:24
lagadebian will probably work. i don't know how marillat's packages are compiled15:25
|gunni|I will try then15:25
sebrockfinally got the LCD working, however I need to pass a paramter to the module, is this possible in mythbuntu-control-center?15:25
bibabenjoallright, im configuring my remote control, and it works well with amarok! Now Im trying to configure it as a virtual mouse! I added an entry in the xorg.conf and also edited the lircmd.conf! Unfortunately it doesnt work and i cant figure out  why15:26
sebrockanyone knows if it is possible to pass module parameters with mythbuntu control center?15:28
sebrockwhat is the lp module?15:42
popeyshould mythtranscode work out of the box on mythbuntu 8.04? I ask because if i choose to transcode a programme it fails with error 255. If I run mythtranscode manually on an mpg file it says:- http://pastebin.ubuntu-uk.org/93515:53
popeyis there somewhere in mythtv I need to configure transcoding?15:53
Davieypopey: user jobs :)16:50
DavieyWhere are you adding them?16:50
DavieyI can't tell you the setting off the top of my head.. Not @ home16:52
popeyhang on16:58
popeythere is a setting to transcode in myth-setup16:58
popeyyou don't need to add a user job, it's a pre-defined job16:58
popeybut anyway, it fails when run from the command line16:58
popeyso i fail to see how setting a user job would fix it16:59
=== mindframe_ is now known as mindframe
ChrisC35whats the main differences betwen mythbuntu and mythdora22:00
ChrisC35iamlindoro__ are you here22:02
ChrisC35i'm trying to install the v4l-dvb drivers, can anyone help?22:03
ChrisC35how can I check to see if they are installed?22:03
Daviey< ChrisC35> whats the main differences betwen mythbuntu and mythdora22:07
DavieyMythbuntu is based on ubuntu and keeps close ties22:07
Davieymythdora is based on Fedora22:08
Daviey^ Main difference22:08
popeyDaviey: you at home now? any chance you can press the transcode button and see if it works on your myth backend?22:09
Davieysure22:10
popeythanks22:10
popeyalternatively, just run mythtranscode --infile /path/to/an/mpg/file/created/by/mythtv22:10
ChrisC35im trying to get my hvr-1600 to work - i installed the v4l-dvb drivers, and the hauppauge is showing up when I do a lspci -v. But in myth setup for mpeg-2 it just always reports that it can't see it for tv card setup22:13
Davieypopey: hmm22:13
Daviey2008-06-15 22:11:20.487 No video information found!22:13
Daviey2008-06-15 22:11:20.487 Please ensure that recording profiles for the transcoder are set22:13
popey2008-06-15 22:14:35.999 No video information found!22:15
popey2008-06-15 22:14:35.999 Please ensure that recording profiles for the transcoder are set22:15
popeyfunny that :)22:15
DavieyChrisC35: no experience with the hvr-1600, is it detected in dmesg?22:15
DavieyIt's possible the firmware isn't in the distribution22:15
ChrisC35its a big list, but i see at the end: lirc_i2c: chip 0x10020 found @ 0x71 (Hauppauge PVR150)22:16
ChrisC35i also see autodetected Hauppauge card22:18
ChrisC35shows tuner model, etc22:18
ChrisC35maybe i should go buy another card22:19
ChrisC35what should I get\22:19
Davieynaa, it should work.. let me look at popey's problem first22:19
ChrisC35k22:20
popeyDaviey: feel free to do him first, i can wait22:20
ChrisC35when i'm in the mythtv setup, for tv card, I choose the mpeg2 one, and it jsut says Failed to open22:27
ChrisC35under probed info22:27
ChrisC35is it because i need to get that schedulesdirect.org first?22:27
ChrisC35or can it just use EIT transmitted  guide22:27
ChrisC35under input connections it says "could not open to probe its inputs22:28
ChrisC35Daviey?22:35
Davieypopey: found it :)22:39
popeyyay22:39
Davieypopey: go into frontend settings -> tv settings -> Recording profiles22:39
popeyone mo22:39
Davieyand literally, just open each entry and press enter through them22:39
popeyhang on, on the backend or frontend?22:39
DavieyFor some reason it seems they are not commited to database on install :/22:40
popeyin myth-setup or what?22:40
Davieyfrontend22:40
popeyisn' this a backend task?22:41
Davieypopey: some backend tasks are on displayed on the frontend22:42
Davieythe idea being that mythtv-setup only deals with setting up tuners22:43
Davieyand listings22:43
popeyok, so i have gone through that, will that adjust settings on the backend then?22:43
Davieymythtv-setup is complicated enough! :)22:43
popeyno I have visited those pages22:43
popey*now22:43
Davieyyeah, it does the mysql database22:43
Davieyso, a transcode _shoudl_ now work22:43
Davieyor at least it did for me22:44
popeyooooo22:44
popeyyou're good!22:44
popeybeer++22:44
Davieyheh22:44
Daviey:)22:44
DavieyNEXT22:44
popeyhave you filed a bug? should ?22:44
popeyshould I ?22:44
Davieycrack on :)22:44
popeywill do tomorrow22:45
Davieyyah22:45
popeyonce I queue up all these transcodes and hope they work on my poor 1Mhz cpu ;)22:45
DavieyChrisC35: Channel listings is unrelated to setting up the tuners22:45
Davieypopey: i only allow 1 concurrent task on my weak backend22:45
Davieyi don't know what the default is (2-3?), that's a backend task- Under "1. General"22:46
popeyno, mine is set to 1 too22:46
popeybut i have a few programmes to transcode :()22:46
DavieyYou can also set it to only run overnight22:46
popeynice!22:46
popeyI am rapidly becoming a myth convert22:46
popeyneed to get some more frontends :)22:46
Davieypopey: if you also set up a backend (with no tuners), that could be just a transcoder farm :)22:47
Davieyso WoL it when needed, halt when finished :D22:47
popeyniiiice22:47
popeymy desktop could do that - dual core etc22:47
Davieyesp, if you set a `nice` value22:48
popeywouldn't want the desktop to shutdown when I'm using it tho :)22:48
DavieyChrisC35: can you do a test, can you try and use your tuner exteranlly to mythtv?22:48
Davieyie, if it works in Ubuntu it'll work in Mythbuntu :)22:49
popey3 mins to do 5%22:49
Davieyhow long recording?22:49
popeydunno, picked a random mpg22:49
Davieypopey: "mythrename.pl" useful cron job :)22:50
popeywill kill it to run them via the web22:50
popeydoes that rename mpgs?22:50
Daviey*/8 * * * * /usr/share/doc/mythtv-backend/contrib/mythrename.pl --link22:50
Davieyadds a $recording_location/show_names/REALNAME.mpg22:51
Davieyie,22:51
DavieyWatchdog - 2008-05-12, 7-30 PM.mpg22:51
DavieyWelcome To The Jungle - 2008-02-10, 9-00 PM - Action adventure story and Seann William Scott.mpg22:51
DavieyWho Do You Think You Are- - 2008-04-10, 9-00 PM - Barbara Windsor.mpg22:51
popeynice22:51
DavieyWithout the --link it'll actually rename the file, and update the database.. I don't like having filenames with spaces, so --link suites me better22:52
Daviey--link [destination directory] if you don't want recording_location/show_names/22:53
ChrisC35sure .. not sure how i woudl do that though22:54
ChrisC35Daviey any suggestion to how I woudl test it in ubuntu?22:56
DavieyChrisC35: what type of DVB is it?22:59
Daviey(i guess it is?)22:59
ChrisC35i dont know\23:00
ChrisC35its a hvr-1600 by hauppauge23:00
DavieyYou were asking about the v4l-dvb, so i assume it is DVB.23:00
DavieyIs it cable, aerial or satellite?23:01
ChrisC35i just followed the suggestion of someone to install dirvers for it23:01
ChrisC35cable23:01
DavieyOK!23:01
DavieyI'd use czap23:01
ChrisC35and i installed http://www.linuxtv.org/repo/23:01
DavieyI thought VLC had native support for DVB-C.. but don't know23:02
Davieybut google for --->czap mplayer<--23:02
Davieysee if you get any joy, if not come back? ok?23:02
ChrisC35trying to find it23:03
* Daviey has never used DVB + Cable.. but do use DVB + aerial 23:05
Davieyapt-get install dvb-utils23:05
ChrisC35is there another name for czap?23:05
ChrisC35i cant seem to find it23:05
Davieyhave a look in: /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-c/ for your provider?23:05
ChrisC35i have no dvb-utils in /doc/23:08
Davieyooo, i just had a thought..23:13
Davieymy US foo is weak23:13
DavieyDoes your cable provider supplied box have firewire?23:13
ChrisC35em..23:17
ChrisC35there is no supplied box - the cable comes out of the wall23:17
DavieyIf you weren't using mythtv, how would you watch tv?23:18
ChrisC35plug the coaxial cable into my tv set23:18
DavieyAh..23:18
ChrisC35this is not digital btw23:18
ChrisC35analog23:18
Davieythen you don't want DVB :)23:18
ChrisC35oh ok23:18
DavieyDigital Video Broadcast :)23:18
ChrisC35is that the driver i installed|?23:18
Davieyyus23:19
ChrisC35the problem is I dont know much about what I"m doing, i just followed instructions from someone's suggestion23:19
ChrisC35so what do you think i can do to get this 1600 to work with myth?23:19
Davieywell the hvr-1600 (just googled) is a Hybrid card23:20
Davieyso supports both digital and analogue.23:20
ChrisC35that sounds positive23:20
ChrisC35am I supposed to set mythtv to analogue somehow?23:21
Davieyhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_HVR-160023:22
Davieyinteresting read...23:22
ChrisC35yes i followed the installation guide on that page23:23
ChrisC35Grab the latest v4l-dvb drivers from http://www.linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb, etc23:23
Davieyhttp://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Cx18 <---23:24
Davieydo that ^23:24
DavieyHardy = 2.6.24, Intrepid = 2.6.26 (AFAIK).. it should work out of the box in the next release, but not hardy23:24
ChrisC35hmm ya i just noticed that too - i will try it now23:25
DavieyIe, it's not in the kernel yet23:25
ChrisC35do you know is it possible to use my logitech wireless keyboard/mouse with mythbuntu?23:28
Davieyif it works in ubuntu...23:28
Davieyi'd guess yes23:28
ChrisC35actually i think I already did this23:31
ChrisC35i'll tyr again\23:31
ChrisC35how do I upn23:34
ChrisC35how do I unpack a bz2?23:34
ChrisC35i'm somewhat newbie to linux23:34
ChrisC35i dl a file tip.tar.bz223:34
ChrisC35ah i see the answer under stupic question #477 :)23:36
ChrisC35stupid23:36
abarbacciaso when i use the default (vesa?) drivers, hdmi works, but when i switch to fglrx, it doesn't... any advice?23:56
