eduser:)03:49
cooliowe just installed hardy and are experiencing dhcp problems, only 3 of 20 get dhcp and 4th get a lucky to a point08:22
cooliodesperate for quick tip08:22
stgraberogra_cmpc: around ?09:50
stgraberogra: http://merges.ubuntu.com/i/italc/09:51
stgraberogra: any way you can mark that as "do not sync it" ?09:51
stgraberor do you need my own 1.0.9-rc3 ? as it's rc3 and I know it still contains some bugs fixed in SVN I didn't publish my packages (not even in the team PPA) but if that can help getting rid of the merge we can probably upload it09:53
Nurionnah, I had same problem like coolio: dhcp-server in hardy seems to be broken10:22
Nurionnif I startup multiple clients at the same time, no-one will get an ip...10:22
Nurionnin gutsy it works fine10:22
Nurionnis there a known bug?10:28
ograstgraber, having the rc before thursday would be fine to just have it from teh merges list, we can still upload more later11:10
ograNurionn, no, and its the first time i hear about that (hardy is two montsold now) are you sure there is no other dhcp server in your network and yur configuration is ok ?11:11
ogra*months11:11
stgraberogra: when generating a new source package for Ubuntu, should I remove all the PPA builds from the changelog ?11:21
ograyes and merge possible changelog entries11:27
Nurionnogra: yes, I made the same configurations I made in 7.1011:41
Nurionnfor now, I reinstalled 7.10 parallel to 8.04, so I am still able to do some tests from time to time11:42
Nurionnogra: you're back, are you?11:44
stgraberogra_cmpc: ok, I updated my changelog to include your 1.0.8 upload and I'm test building 1.0.9-rc311:49
ogracool, thanks11:50
ograNurionn, yes11:50
Nurionnogra: do you know anything about that dhcp-error, coolio and I have?11:50
ogranot more than i said before11:51
ograbut i'm pretty sure it just works for a lot of other eople so i'D be surprised if it was dhcpd's fault11:52
Nurionnit's strange, because in gutsy it works fine11:52
NurionnI, too, thought that it was an error I did, until I saw the question of coolio11:53
NurionnI made same configuration in gutsy and hardy (they're installed on the same server) -> if I start hardy, it doesn't work but in gutsy it does11:53
Nurionnor more precisely: it doesn't work if I connect multiple clients on the same time11:54
Nurionnif I wait until one started up and start then another one, it works mostly11:55
ograsounds more like a network problem to me11:58
ogradefine "doesnt work" more precisely11:59
ograwhats the error you see on the screen11:59
Nurionnthe clients didn't receive an ip adress (and can't boot though)11:59
ograand did you check the logs of the dhcp server if it gets requests it doesnt answer in time etc11:59
NurionnPXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received11:59
Nurionnin /var/log/syslog i saw the entries: dhcpdiscover and dhcpoffer -> but then it stopped12:01
Nurionnnothing more12:01
Nurionn"sounds more like a network problem to me" - that's what I thought first12:01
ograthe entries ?12:01
ograhow many ?12:01
ogrado you see a request for every offer ?12:01
ograerr12:01
ogras/offer/client12:02
Nurionnyes12:02
Nurionnrequest -> offer -> request -> offer12:02
ograthats a plain hardy install without any modifications ?12:02
Nurionnerr12:02
NurionnI mean: discover -> offer -> disover -> offer12:02
Nurionnsometimes there are following: request -> ack  (and then sometimes it starts another time)12:03
NurionnI did the following things:12:03
Nurionn- install hardy12:03
ograand you are sure there is no other dhcp server in your network anywhere ?12:03
Nurionnyes12:04
ograa rounter or so12:04
ogra*router12:04
Nurionnits a seperate vlan12:04
Nurionnand in the same environment it works with gutsy (even if I start 20 clients at the same time)12:04
ograi stopped your list, so what else did you do beyond installing hardy12:05
Nurionn- change in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (adding: Driver "vesa" - but it should not matter)12:06
Nurionn- install server-kernel (for more than 4gb ram)12:07
Nurionn- installing x11vnc12:07
Nurionn- configuring /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf (entries for each client: mac-address, fixed-address, host-name))12:08
Nurionn- creating some users12:08
Nurionnah and I installed flash/java for firefox312:08
ogracan you try with the default dhcpd.conf ? and with the -generic kernel ?12:08
NurionnI could, but it would take some time (server is in the other building)12:09
Nurionnshould I?12:09
ograwell, might be that the server kernel has a prob with your NIC, who knows12:09
Nurionnok, I'll try then12:10
Nurionnbrb12:10
ograi know the default setup works for ost people out of the box12:10
ograi havent heard about such a prob the last two months12:10
ograand your symptoms really look like a second dhcpd in the network12:10
ograbut if you say that cant be ....12:10
Nurionnif it would be, why should gutsy work?12:11
ograyour vlan setup works for one but not for the other ?12:14
Nurionnre12:26
Nurionnyes12:26
Nurionnnow I tried with default dhcpd.conf and 2.6.24-19-generic kernel12:26
Nurionnsame problem12:27
Nurionnvlan is not the problem I believ, for I made a direct connection to the switch in the other room on monday, and that didn't work either12:27
joebakerogra:  My tftpd-hpa issue went away with following the install directions for Edubuntu 8.04  (installing Ubuntu first from alternate CD with F4 Option to create LTSP server) then loading Edubuntu Addon CD.13:07
ogragreat to hear :)13:09
stgraberogra: http://www.stgraber.org/download/ubuntu/italc/13:27
stgraberogra: that version contains the debug version of x11vnc. The user won't see it but that can be useful for debuging some memory issues with x11vnc.13:28
Nurionnso I'm off until tomorrow. for my dhcp-problem, here are some additional information:14:52
Nurionn /var/log/syslog: http://paste.ubuntu.com/21402/14:52
Nurionn /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf: http://paste.ubuntu.com/21404/14:53
