tretlehi, I just installed the new dark ubuntu intrepid theme on hardy to test it out and I have a few requests20:33
tretleIf you could use gilouche as the window border it looks a lot better, if you could modify the window file, edit, view bar so that it is part of the window border that would look really slick.. Also could you change the notification bar icons for the network manager and sound control icons are high contrast white - similar to osx's icons. In my personal opinion both icons are too grey and high resolution. Other than those points I really like t20:36
tretlehe new theme.20:36
pwnguintretle: perhaps some screenshots and callouts to make your point?22:49
tretlehmmm......... I will try and find appropriate icons for network manager and volume control but I wont be able to make a screenshot of the windowmanager hack because I am no good at mockups I am afraid22:53
pwnguinnothing like practice to get better at it ;)22:53
pwnguinbut theres a huge problem with your suggestion22:54
pwnguinfile edit and view are off limits22:54
tretlehttp://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Network+applet+icons?content=7519822:55
tretlepwnguin - what do you mean off limits?22:55
pwnguini mean each application is free to have one or not22:56
tretlethe link above is an example of what I mean by hight contrast low res icons for the task bar22:56
pwnguinand free to implement it differently22:56
pwnguinthe window border is handled by the window manager, File,Edit,View menu is handled by the application22:57
tretlepwnguin - I dont want to get rid of it, I want it to be merged into the window manager so that the window manager is slightly fatter but it will make the app look  a hell of a lot better22:57
pwnguinmoving that functionality is not trivial22:57
pwnguinand probably not the kind of work Ubuntu should be doing without consulting the rest of the linux community22:58
tretlesorry22:58
tretleI meant window border22:58
tretletired :D22:59
pwnguinlike i said, the window border is painted by a different program23:01
pwnguinso for every application, youd have to change it and test to make sure it works23:02
pwnguinbut the high contrast icon is interesting23:03
pwnguintretle: when you say the icons are too "high resolution"23:06
pwnguinhow is that a problem?23:06
tretlenotification bar looks nicer and cleaner with simple icons...23:10
pwnguinif the icons moved to svg23:10
pwnguinwould the high resolution stop looking clean or simple?23:11
tretlehttp://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Network+applet+icons?content=7519823:11
tretlethat is what I mean by low res23:11
pwnguinwell, the sound icon does look a little fuzzy ;)23:12
pwnguinbut i dont think 'high resolution' and 'simple' have to conflict23:13
pwnguinfewer colors and fewer shapes at higher resolutions still counts as simple in my book23:14
tretleso do you prefer the style we have now or the style in that link?23:23
pwnguini dont know23:34
pwnguinat this precise moment, my laptop doesn't boot into high resolution mode23:34
pwnguinin intrepid23:35
pwnguinI worry that the specific icons you picked out may tread too close to derivative works23:35
pwnguinbut i'm not against the monocolor idea at the moment23:35
DanaGAah, if it's nvidia... that'd be why there's no native-res.23:39
pwnguinyea23:45
pwnguinim aware of it, i just havent done anything about it yet23:45
tretlepicking up an ati card next week to replace my nvidia binary blob :D23:53
tretlehttp://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshoton5.png23:53
tretlethats the new dark theme + gilouche window border by the way23:53
