giosue_chi.  i'm looking at the error logs of a system that failed while installing.00:08
giosue_cthis may seem remedial, but i'm wondering how to get the logs off the system so I can keep the error messages around.00:08
giosue_ci see the nc command is available and i'll probably use that, but would be nice to know what the standard approach to getting a copy of the logs is.00:10
cjwatsonthe usual advice I give is to go back to the installer main menu, select "Save debug logs", and follow the instructions00:13
cjwatsonit's also possible to run 'anna-install openssh-client-udeb' and after that you'll have scp, or as you observe you can use nc00:14
giosue_cthanks.  good to know.  switched my build from feisty to hardy today and something's not quite right.00:20

evandxivulon: The 256 MB check is fine, but using today's CD I'm getting an invalid CD detected when launching umenu14:18
xivulonarg I forgot about umenu14:43
xivulon!define VERSION "8.04"14:45
xivulonsrc/umenu.nsi14:46
xivulonshould be 8.04.114:46
xivulonevand please try with the above ^14:46
evandwill do14:47
evandthat worked.  Ok, I'll commit this and ask slangasek if he's willing to regenerate the desktop CDs at this point.15:06
xivulonsorry for that umenu completely slipped my mind15:14
evandhopefully slangasek will let another build through :/15:16

evandxivulon: have you experienced any crashes while testing Wubi.exe?  I seem to be getting them with some frequency in 8.04.1.16:49
chrismatI want to install Ubuntu from CentOS PXE16:50
chrismatunattended16:50
chrismatWhat should i use debconf, fai or kickstart?16:50
xivulonevand no, not particularly16:52
xivulonquite strange because if anything there is less stuff now16:52
xivulonmaybe do you have several ISOs around?16:52
evandI don't believe so.  I always uncheck the box for backing up the ISO.16:53
evandI also hit a bug where it asked the timezone question, but I cannot reproduce it now.16:53
xivulonhmm would have liked to have had more feedback on this a few days ago'...16:55
evandIndeed, we're probably stuck with it now.16:57
cjwatsonchrismat: I don't recommend fai simply because the Ubuntu installer team has very little experience with it and so it probably hasn't been touched very much for Ubuntu17:02
cjwatsonchrismat: either debconf preseeding or Kickstart is fine; preseeding is more powerful in and of itself while Kickstart is simpler; however, you can use Kickstart and add a few preseeding commands to tweak things that go wrong, if you like17:03
xivulonevand there is no change in the source that would make segfaults more likely as far as I can see, must be a random change (like behaviour changing because of an extra print statement...)17:04
xivulonas for the timezone the code is slightly different now, it might be that you had that with the french version?17:05
xivulonms has this nice habit of saving configuration values in localized form from time to time...17:05
evandcute, and yes, I was using the French Windows XP Professional.17:15
evandHowever, it only failed once while using it.17:16

james_wtesting today's intrepid daily alternate I get "hotkey-setup: Depends: discover (>= 2.0) but it is not installable". I'm stuck at finding out the cause though.20:26
opapohow do I use kickstart to automate the install of a lamp server21:51
cjwatsonjames_w: I fixed hotkey-setup this morning23:25
cjwatsonopapo: I'm going to bed now, but either stick around and I'll answer tomorrow morning if nobody beats me to it, or send mail as in the /topic23:25
james_wcjwatson: great, thanks23:26
giosue_ci'm trying to build a hardy alternate installer cd with cdimage.  germinate isn't finding some dependencies of the xubuntu-desktop package.  I think it is because the packages it requires are in universe, but the germinate command cdimage is using only looks at main.23:28
cjwatsongiosue_c: set CDIMAGE_UNSUPPORTED in the environment. (grep for that and you'll see what I mean.)23:33
cjwatsonsee the 'export CDIMAGE_UNSUPPORTED=1' lines in cdimage/bin/build-image-set23:33
giosue_ci think i already know what you mean :).  I'm pretty sure i bumped my head on that before.23:33
giosue_cnow that you mention it!23:34
giosue_cthanks23:34
giosue_cI see it returns a mirror location of ftp-universe instead of ftp23:37
cjwatsonthat's due to cdimage's local wacky mirror layout, feel free to override23:37
* cjwatson -> bed, no really23:37
giosue_c:)23:38
giosue_cthanks23:38
xivulonevand yes it matters, because people use the local directory to pass a pre-downloaded ISO, but with a self-extracting wubi I cannot know which one is the local directory23:59
