mib_btjb1mso, Im googling around and finding mixed response. Wondered if I could get some help here. I started with ubuntu, then installed the edubuntu add-on. How would I go about going back to plain ubuntu?04:45
mib_btjb1mthis is of course hardy heron04:46
Nubaeogra: are u there, Don't mean to hassle you, was just wondering if the lpia (atom) netbook-remix is ready?08:51
stgraberogra: Can you please upload: http://www.stgraber.org/download/ubuntu/italc/11:20
ograwill do11:20
stgraberfixes the x11vnc issue once and for all and some other things. It's basically exactly what I'd like as 1.0.9 upstream :)11:21
ograwhich we'll surely get soon i bet :)11:21
stgraberI hope so, Tobias just needs to merge some of my patches and release it11:22
Nubaeogra: so I took a look at the classmate, and it came pre-installed with ubuntu 7.10!14:48
ograugh14:49
ograhow big is the disk ?14:49
Nubaethink 4 gigs14:49
Nubaelike the asus eeepc14:49
ograah, k14:50
ograthe noral cmpc has only two14:50
ograso if you are lucky you dont have the ompressed install14:50
Nubaeit was really quite fast14:50
Nubaeyeah no its a regular ubuntu install14:50
Nubaestraight from live cd14:50
ograthe 7.10 image i did wasnt for distribution, but it seems some OEMs didnt respect that14:50
ogra(which they are free to do with a free image ... but will get users into troule)14:51
NubaeIĺl have a closer look this evening at what image it is exactlz14:51
ograwell, if it was installed from libeCD all should be fine14:51
Nubaewell, this is a test pc of course....14:51
ograthats ok on the 4G14:51
Nubaebut its not got any atom based stuff... so I guess installing your image would be the next step right?14:52
Nubaethat way we can compare speed/cpu/ram usage14:52
ograright, as soon as i'm done (no ETA, still fiddling)14:52
Nubaehehe ok, I wont ask again, I know its annoying for you14:53
=== bddebian2 is now known as bddebian
Pierre-YannHi. Have you tried to use hostnames ( i.e. "[client1]") instead of mac addresses to create thin client special sections in lts.conf ? Can't get it working.17:31
ograyou need a proper dns server setup in the client network for that ... i'd go with MAC adresses instead of putting that maintenance overhead on me17:34
Pierre-YannOh. I thought it was sufficient to declare host names in the local server /etc/hosts file and /etc/dhcpd.conf...17:38
Pierre-YannI mean /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf17:38
ograyou could try to copy the hosts file inot the chroot17:39
Pierre-YannNo, then it would be a real overhead to update the chroot every time i change an ip address...17:40
ograwell, either that or a DNS server :)17:52
ograor stick to MACs ... thats why we did that by default, its a pain to maintain a DNS server and all other parts of ltsp were developed with that in mind ...17:53
ograbut indeed you *can* use one if you want :)17:54
Pierre-YannWell, i thought it would be easier to use hostnames: say you want to install a local printer on a thin client: cups needs an ip address, so you assign it with dhcp. Then back again to mac address with lts.conf. Conclusion: to get a local printer you need to modify at least 3 files (dhcpd.conf, lts.conf, cupsd stuff) using 2 different notations (mac address and ip address). Not really convenient.18:12
Pierre-YannI forgot: i'm supposed to administer 23 Hardy/ltsp servers for a total of approx 450 thin clients. Anything simplifying this task would be appreciated...18:16
stgraberyou can have dhcpd automatically create DNS records18:17
Pierre-Yannok, as long as i can use those hostnames in lts.conf...18:18
stgraberthen you'll need to have your DHCP server send that DNS server to the client and they will be able to resolve : clientXYZ.your.lan.com and you'll be able to use that in lts.conf18:21
stgraber(you'll need to google that a bit ...)18:21
Pierre-YannOk, i'm gonna google on this. Thx.18:22
Pierre-YannNot related: thin client manager: works only for first login session on a thin client. Once user logs out (back to ldm screen), x11vnc gently dies in the thin client. Any fix ?18:23
stgraberitalc is the new classroom manager since 8.04, we don't maintain tcm anymore18:29
ograPierre-Yann, tcm's vnc part never really worked right, if anyone touches that app again my proposal is to drop the tab completely ... use italc,.. its the future :)18:38
ograstgraber, uploaded now btw, sorry for the delay, had a busy day18:41
stgraberogra: cool, np18:42
stgraberI just upgraded to Intrepid, relatively stable so far18:43
stgraberand I have my sd card reader working !!! :)18:43
ograwell, mdz had a rough ride :)18:43
ogra(as you can see on -devel-discuss)18:43
stgraberwell, I didn't really upgraded :), I saved my /home and reinstalled18:43
stgraberyep, I saw his mail18:43
ograi still have to stick with hardy until the sprint :/18:44
stgraberI usually reinstall my lappy with Alpha-1 then upgrade all the time until the Alpha-1 of the next release :)18:44
stgrabernvidia/fglrx drivers are broken, I had to patch my fglrx by hand and restart dkms. Other than that, the intel wireless firmwares were missing and I had to install linux-restricted-modules-common by hand.18:47
ograstgraber,18:57
ograRejected:18:57
ograNot permitted to upload to the RELEASE pocket in a series in the 'CURRENT' state.18:57
ogra...18:57
ograDistribution: hardy18:58
ograsorry, didnt check before uploading18:58
* ogra does a quickfix18:58
ogra(changed both hardy occurences to intrepid, please fix accordingly in your package)19:00
* stgraber wonders why it's hardy in the changelog ... 19:45
stgraberogra: fixed, thanks19:47
stgraberI guess that was because I was using dch on an hardy system, it didn't check the release of the previous change ...19:47
ogralikely19:48
stgraberhmm, failed on hppa, sparc and ia64 because of a dep problem with qt4. I'll need to ask for a give back once qt is updated there19:49
