minhaajyea for authentication01:44
=== root is now known as Guest97328
minhaajdunno my lousy ISP is having some problem with my port. it seems to be hung up. so they asked me to use bridge01:44
minhaajand now i can't get it to work in linux01:44
Pxrbo1hi, im having a problem with the sound and graphics at the moment. im playing a video in youtube, but the video quality is less than what it should be, and the sound is very jittery01:44
minhaajfor sound check out alsa px01:45
minhaaj!alsa01:45
ubottuIf you're having problems with sound, first ensure ARTS is running, by going to K Menu -> System Settings -> Sound System and making sure "Enable the sound system" is checked. If that fails, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sound - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting - For playing audio files, see !Players and !MP301:45

T3Roari have XP and Vista on separate partitions01:54

T3Roarexcuse me, i meant XP01:54
T3Roarits not full but i dont want xp any more so i want to delete that partition01:55

Dr_willissounds like one might want to enable verbose cups logging and check the logs carefully.04:22
* mr---t- has never used kubuntu gutsy04:23
darkwolfokay, how do I do that?04:23
Dr_willisi normally edit the cups config file and restart cups.04:24
Dr_willisthere may be a gui tool to do it - or backup and edit ->  /etc/cups/cupsd.conf04:25
darkwolfokay I got it open04:26
darkwolfnow what?04:26
Dr_willisread the file...04:26

Dr_willischange 'warning' to 'debug' in my case it seems.04:27
t3roarhey guys, i've just installed kubuntu alongside Vista04:27
t3roarand GRUB only gives three kubuntu options04:27
Dr_willisYou mean to be saying it gives no 'vista' boot option?04:28
t3roaryes04:28
Dr_willisHope you didnt accidently delete the vista install.04:28
t3roarno, i checked in dolphin and the files are still there04:28
Dr_willis'sudo fdisk -l' should show some NTFS partitions.  :)  You may need to manually edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst to add a vista boot entry.04:29
t3roari'm in the menu.lst now04:29
t3roarjust wondering what i need to put in there04:29
Dr_willisTheres a example entry for 'windows' booting off the first partition of the first hd. You could use for an example.04:30
Dr_willisits above the ubuntu kernel entries04:30
Dr_willisUncomment it, set the  root (hd0,0) to be correct. and it 'should' boot windows.04:31
Dr_willisIt will also put windows as the first menu item in the grub menu.04:31
t3roarwell windows is installed in sda204:32
t3roarbecause the ubuntu installation overrode a previous dual-boot configuration04:32
Dr_willisrember that grub starts counting at 0. :) so lets see.. sda2 should be hd0,104:33
Dr_willisI think. :)04:33
t3roaroh right okay cool :)04:33
darkwolfokay, now how do I restart grub?04:33
darkwolfI mean, CUPS04:33
darkwolflol04:33
Dr_willis'sudo /etc/init.d/SERVICENAME restart'04:33
t3roaris there no need to link to the kernel for the windows installation?04:33
Dr_willislink to the kernel?04:34
t3roarthe lines for linux have 'kernel' information04:34
t3roarfor where the kernel is04:34
Dr_willisthate because they are linux  :)04:34
Dr_willisnote the 'chainloader +1' thats hands over the booting to the windows stuff.04:35
mr---t-windows hides thier kernal in ntldr04:35
t3roaroh okay, in that case one more question, if i uncomment the windows example at the top, dont i need to move it to an appropriate section of the menu.lst file?04:35
Dr_willist3roar,  no. it will ust show up at the top of grubs menu as i said earlier.04:36
t3roaroh yeah cool04:36
t3roaroh okay04:36
Dr_willisUnless you want it at the bottom of the list.04:36
t3roari'll try that now and reboot04:36
t3roarnope, top of the list04:36
Dr_willisI perfer it at the top - so that it dosent keep jumping around. :)04:36

SPhcTType of new partition: Now is primary but i can select logical what i need select?10:56
dr_Willismake a partition of the proper type, use the mkswap command to 'format it as swap',  edit fstab to add proper entry. use swapon command to enable it.10:56
dr_Willisa logical goes inside an extended partition I belive.10:57
eagles0513875doc ill check that out for ya10:57
SPhcTand where is best location in beginning or end?10:58
eagles0513875dr_Willis: logical inside extended10:58
dr_WillisSPhcT,  really dosent matter. I tend to put a 512mb swap parttiion at the end of every hard drive i put on a system. :)10:58
dr_WillisOld habbit i have. from using lots of live cd's :)  they often see/use swap. so i want a swap somewhere on every system i got. so i put one on every drive i got.10:59
SPhcT512 mb will be ok? i put 1019mb10:59
dr_Willisdepends on your system,  and ram10:59
dr_Willisand your needs.10:59
dr_WillisI really need to track down a 'how drives are partioned guide' that explains how  Primary/extended/logical work. and the limitations of them.11:00

SPhcTok so i need put it on 500mhz / 512ram / 4mb video / 20gb hd... Fore internet,mails,skype,orinal games11:01
dr_Willis You can have 4 Primary Partitions. (i think) of which one or more can be Extended partitions, those extended can hold 1 or more logicals.11:01
dr_WillisSPhcT,  that thing will need the swap. :) 1gb should work.11:01

SPhcTto make faster read swap what location i shold take?11:04
dr_WillisSPhcT,  ive seen some people claim the front is faster then the rear.. but i doubt if you will notice any differance on such a low end machine11:04
dr_Willisfastest is to have swap on a seperate hard drive. :) or have several swaps spread around.11:05
dr_Willison different hard drives11:05
* dr_Willis reads up on partitions at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_(computing)11:05
SPhcT:)) ok so i will take primary and at the end...11:05
SPhcTit is ok?11:06
dr_WillisSPhcT,  flip a coin. it proberly wont amtter at all.11:06
dr_WillisI would maye a primary for  /, and a small swap at the end. and be done with it.11:06
dr_Willisalso primary for the swap11:06
dr_WillisA PC hard disk can contain either as many as four primary partitions, or 1-3 primaries and a single extended partition. Each of these partitions are described by a 16-byte entry in the Partition Table which is located in the Master Boot Record.11:07
dr_WillisHmm.. i thought ive made layouts with more then 1 extended partition.. perhaps not. :)11:07

dr_Willisif you are installing kubuntu  and only want linux , on the machine, the installer can just auto-partition all this11:11

dr_Williswindows will whipe out grub.. so you need to learn how to 'restore' the grub boot loader.   I think.12:53

DragnslcrThe range of 192.168.1.0/24 is 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.25515:32

dr_WillisIf you want to backup the whole system.. thats a different matter. :)20:58

dr_WillisI dont worry about the programs/configs much. the ones I customize i do manually backup. like /etc/samba/* and /etc/hosts and a few others.20:59
dr_Willisaptoncd just backyups what you have downloaded...  ie: it backups the /var/cache/apt dir. Ibelive. thats it.20:59

dr_WillisMost 'people' arcive a specific set  of configs and other specific dirs.   if the system gets totally trashed they reinstall, and restore those configs21:12
latoushow do i add the repository to my system's list of APT sources?21:12
latoussome instructions say thay i must do this21:12
dr_Willistheres backing up from a 'admin's' point of view.. then the 'users' point of view. :)21:13
crimsunthat's where using bzr/svn/git for ~/.* and /etc is good.21:13
minhaajthats what i want. i loved the way things were in windows using norton ghost21:13
minhaajthere should be a norton ghost for linux. its awesome. get back you system in 5 minutes21:13
dr_WillisGhost was a waste of $$$ for my system.. it wouldent even work right.. then nortons wanted more $$ for the next version that came4 out a week later... all i can say is *#$*@&*@*@* nortons21:13
dr_Willis!info g4l21:13
ubottuPackage g4l does not exist in hardy21:13
minhaajheeh i never paid for it21:14
latousanyone to anwser my question?21:14
minhaajit worked great for me.21:14
dr_WillisG4L is a hard disk and partition imaging and cloning tool. The created images are optionally compressed and transferred to an FTP server instead of cloning locally.21:14
dr_Willisg4l = a take on the name 'ghost 4 linux'   but they cant use the name ghost21:14
minhaaji want to usb, not ftp21:14
dr_Willishow big is your usb thing anyway>?21:14
dr_Willisreread what it said...  also.21:15
dr_Willisit most likely can archive to about anything/place ya got.21:15
minhaaj8 gb21:15
rysiek|plguys, lil' help with ssh publickey auth? I generated the keys, put id_dsa.pub in ~/.ssh/authorised_keys on the remote server and I am still prompted for user's (not key's...) password21:16
dr_WillisMy current ubuntu install is hitting 3o+gb. :) i got 8+gb in just wallpaper. :)21:16
dr_Willispartimage - backup partitions into a compressed image file.21:16
minhaajwhoa21:17
dr_WillisHmm.. ya could backup your whole system. compressed perhaps to a single file. :)21:17
dr_Willisamazing what you can find in the repos.21:17
minhaajhow do you restore it ?21:17
=== rpedro__ is now known as rpedro
dr_WillisI would have to say with  the partimage tools....21:17
rysiek|pldr_Willis: meh, I use dd if=/dev/sda | bzip2 | nc my_server some_port for that ;)21:17
dr_Willistime to check their docs.. :)21:17
rysiek|pldr_Willis: from a LiveCD that is ;)21:18
dr_Willisrysiek|pl,  i think if yu set the blocksize..you may gain some speed. :)21:18
minhaajlol21:18
minhaajon it drwillis21:18
dr_Willisrysiek|pl,  we had a discussion on that once in here.21:18
rysiek|pldr_Willis: yeah, I do, and I start nc -l -p some_port on the server side, too, but that was implicit ;)21:18
dr_Williscat/dd/cp and how block size affected the stuff21:18
dr_WillisI just backup my /home and do a clean reinstall if i trash the system. :P21:19
dr_Willisoften i do a clean reinstall just when new releases come out.. to test them out.21:19
rysiek|pldr_Willis: well, I tested it live on 10+ workstations, daisy-chained with tee and nc for restoring the images21:19
dr_Willisrysiek|pl,  i think thats the sort of setuo mondo is also good for.21:19
dr_Willisbut i rarely use these tools any more. :)21:20
cyberponixdoesone have any advise for setting up wifi on a toshiba laptop?21:20
dr_WillisBackups are for wimps! :) well i do backup all data to external usb drives.21:20
dr_Williscyberponix,  it will TOTALLY depend on the exact chipset of wireless in that laptop.21:20
rysiek|pldr_Willis: technically, it wasn't ment to be a backup21:20
dr_Willis!wireless21:20
ubottuWireless documentation can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs21:20
cyberponixAtheros 802.11 b/g21:21
minhaajyou simply copy paste home in clean installation ?21:21
rysiek|pldr_Willis: it was ment to be an image of clean, but feature-rich and fully configured, system install to be placed on new workstations, and workstations the student's borked ;)21:21
rysiek|pl*students21:21
dr_Willisminhaaj,  i dont normally use the gui file manager. :) i tend to use mc in a terminal.21:21
minhaajmc ?21:22
dr_Willisminhaaj,  and yes. i normally have a archive of my /home/willis dir. on a thumbdrive i can just copy over.21:22
dr_Willistip #29498232    use '/msg ubottu  !info mc' or other package/tool name for info. :)21:22
minhaajwhen you have to restore you jsut un tar it in clean installation ?21:22

dr_Willisminhaaj,  i dont even untar it.. my thimbdrive is in ext3 format.21:23
dr_Willisits just a bunch of .configs and my bin dir. and wallpaper dir.. mainly21:23
minhaajhmm21:23
minhaajthats motivating me to ext3 my usb21:23
dr_WillisHmm G4L has a --> A drive can be cloned using the "Click'n'Clone" function.21:23
dr_WillisNifty.21:23
rysiek|planywhoo, any ideas why ssh pubkey auth might not work? I just generated new'n'shiny (oooh, shiny!) id_dsa and id_dsa.pub keys, and put id_dsa.pub on the server side21:24
minhaajbut i still have reservations. atleast i have some back up on usb, if i screw up i'd even lose that21:24
dr_Willissuch a cute name.21:24
dr_Willisminhaaj,  im amazed that you can manage to mess so much stuff up.21:24
rysiek|plin the output of ssh -vv I can see the key being offered, but nothing happens - and then I get a standard password prompt21:24
dr_Williscauseing more damage by trying to backup things.. then the backup would  be able to protect..  :)21:24
minhaaji dont dr willi21:25
minhaaji just test alot.21:25
minhaaji test alot with ubuntu.21:25
minhaajand i hate to reinstall it and spend hours downloading updates and configuring system21:26
minhaajyou know what i mean ?21:26
rysiek|plminhaaj: that's exactly the problem I needed to solve at my job21:26
minhaaji need to put my system to atleast a level of configuration where i can get back after screwing up to screw up more hehe21:26
minhaajyou know ?21:26
dr_Willisi test all sorts of things also.. but i rarely mess up the whole system.. i cant even rember the last time i mseed up the whole system21:26
dr_Willisit dont take me hours to download updates either. :)21:26
minhaajwell i dont mess up everything either, its just that i dont know how to recover even the slightest glitch21:26
dr_Willisactually with the new 8.4.1 release.. updates should be much less.21:27
latousi managed to make Wine apear in Adept Installer finaly but when i select it and then click on apply changes it says tht there was an error any idias plz?21:27
minhaajwell you must be on great internet21:27
minhaaji have 1 mbps21:27
dr_Willisminhaaj,  so now we are back to the 'learning linux' part. :)21:27
latousyea21:27
sidharthahello everybody21:27
minhaajwith aptoncd i am more comfortable now but still i want to back up configs and settings to. specially my desktop settings and packages21:27
minhaaji dont mind dr. i didnt sleep for 2 days the day i installed ubuntu21:28
sidharthai've installed unbuntu hardy heron and then i installed kde..... 4 (to my surprise) , the problem is i have sound under gnome and not under kde21:28
minhaajand i keep testing for 18 hours on linux. its an addiction21:28
dr_Willis2 days? Hmm.. its like a 1/2 hr install...21:28
sidharthain the system settings (dawn thing , i really prefer kcontrol) i can see the sound card is used with Xine and in gnome it is used with alsa mixer21:28
minhaajits been a month i switched to linux and i help people out with things. but i realize that i need to learn too21:28
dr_WillisSpend 18 hrs reading about bash. and   things like 'mounting drives' and filesystem.  :)21:28
minhaajconfigs dr willis. i keep configuring things21:28
minhaajapache, mysql, php21:29
minhaajlinux is whole new world21:29
minhaajnope reading about bash21:29
minhaajreading about configuring apps and installing21:29
minhaaji am not as smart as you are dr willis : )21:29
minhaajbut i sure am crazy about learning them.21:29
sidharthadoes someone have an idea for having sound under KDE421:29
sidhartha?21:29
dr_Willisnone of those things should result in a unuseable system.  :)21:29
dr_Willisworst case.. remove/puge the package.21:30
minhaajlet me give you a scenario.21:30
minhaaji screw while copy pasting home directory21:30
minhaajin this case how would you fix system without reinstalling it ?21:30
minhaajgiven that you can't do it all through cli21:31
minhaajmost users won't be able to fix system with cli21:31
dr_Willisnow we are back to the 'learning linux' basics..  spend 18 hrs learning bash.21:31
minhaajthats when you need to get your home directory back or restore an image to get your previous system back21:31
dr_Willisnothing in the home dir will get 'fixed' by a reinstall.21:31
dr_Willisif you deleted your home. its gone. :)21:32
minhaajyea but copy pasting from usb the same home directory should fix it21:32
dr_Willisand NOTHING you do in  the home directory should mess up  the system.21:32
minhaajin reality it doesnt because it has links in etc var and other directories21:32
minhaajeven deleting files dr willis ?21:32
minhaaj:)21:32
dr_Willishome dir has links in /etc/ ? not last time that i looked..21:32
dr_WillisYou can totally delete your users home directory and the system should still be bootable.21:33
Freenod1hello21:33
sidharthareally no idea for my soundcard problem21:33
Freenod1how can I enabe java for Konq 3.5.921:33
sidhartha?21:33
minhaajwhen you install firefox it has .mozilla folder in home21:33
Freenod1where is  the path for the java plugin21:33
minhaajbut it keeps some settings in etc21:33
minhaajit DOES have links in etc and var21:34
dr_Willisminhaaj,  hmm.. Not that i can see...21:34
dr_Willisif a program needs settings. and the config is not in the users home dir. (like .screenrc) then it normally looks in /etc/ for a system wide 'screenrc' there is no link.21:34
Freenod1i had copied the java...so file to mozilla plugins but konqi is not starting java21:34
minhaajok lets get to the monosyllabic answer ... i give you a scenario21:34
dr_Willisthere might be a few links to/from /tmp/ for some cases.. but those are  not config files normally21:35
minhaajif i want to keep my systems settings and configs and programs, i back up home and do clean reinstall21:35
Freenod1any help appreciate ...21:35
minhaajthen i go to home of NEW installation and over write everything with my backed up home what would happen21:35
minhaaj?21:35
cyberponixdr_willis do you know hing about setting up Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI21:35
rysiek|plminhaaj: not all settings will be preserved, but most of them21:35
dr_Willissystem settings are normally in /etc/ thats not stored in /home/21:35
minhaajyou can't back up whole system without backing up etc and var21:35
rysiek|plminhaaj: all personal settings (like wallpaper, etc) yes21:35
minhaajsee now we have gone from home to etc21:36
rysiek|plminhaaj: system settings - like xorg.conf - no21:36
dr_Willisand you have this obsession with 'programs' which are most definatly NOT in /home/21:36
minhaajwe need to back up both :)21:36
dr_Willisminhaaj,  you are using wrong terms for most everything. a 'link' is a specific feature of the linux filesystem21:36
minhaajexplain that dr willis21:36
dr_Willis ln -s foo bar           --------> made a link from file foo to file bar.. if you dont understand this.. time to look up some linux basics.21:36
dr_Willisa link is a specifc kind of file under linux.21:37
cyberponixdr_willis do you know hing about setting up Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI21:37
rysiek|plcyberponix: I do, giumme a sec21:37
dr_Williscyberponix,  nope. Nothing at all. im lucky to get any wireless going.21:37
cyberponixok thnx21:37
minhaajinstead of refering people to learn help them understanding is generally nice dr willis. specially when i have been discussing it for an hour and didnt give up yet21:38
minhaajthis does demonstrate my willingness to learn :)21:38
rysiek|plcyberponix: http://rysiek.ath.cx/~mike/ubuntu_hardy_na_lg_e200.htm a wee howto I made, in Polish unfortunately, but I will be happy to translate, just gimme a sec ;)21:38
dr_Willisminhaaj,  and so far its been 'time to read some books on linux basics' :)21:38
cyberponixI just bought this lappy a couple days ago... that is the only I have not gotten to work21:38
minhaajits not basics i believe21:38
dr_WillisYou are trying to do advanced things without knowing some core terms/ideas.21:38
minhaajbacking up is serious stuff that would confuse even the pro users.21:38
minhaajif it were that simple, most server administrators would be newbies21:39
cyberponixthnx rysiekjpl21:39
minhaajhow about discussing those 'core' terms instead of routing me out ?21:39
minhaaj:)21:39
rysiek|plcyberponix: fire up the terminal21:39
cyberponixit is up21:39
dr_Williswant me to read the books to you? theres dozens of guides out there.21:39
rysiek|plcyberponix: and disable the Atheros hal and wifi restricted driver in Restricted Drivers Manager21:40
dr_Willisyou learn more by reading a book, then by chatting on irc.21:40
minhaaji believe on the contrary dr willis but i guess its ok21:41
cyberponixhow about the support21:42
rysiek|pldr_Willis: you read most by trying to actually do stuff on your own, and if IRC or a book helps you with that - then use it :)21:42
rysiek|plcyberponix: huh?21:42
K`zanHi folks, I made the mistake of upgrading 7.04 to 8.06(?) and got some REAL problems with broken stuff, the biggie right now is that OpenOffice will no longer export HTML as it says that the JAVA is broken - updated to the OO one in adept and it is still telling me that.  Please HELP!  TIA21:42
melkartwhere can i find a list of changes from 8.04 to 8.04.1?21:43
rysiek|plK`zan: from 7.04 DIRECTLY to 8.04?21:43
dr_Willisminhaaj,    read/skim guides/books - then if theres some specific case/item you need more info on. then  you can rember.. oh i saw this in that book... and go back to it..   I have a whole shelf or 3 or 32 of linux books. :)21:43
K`zanDo I need to tell OO that it has the updated JAVA somehow, if so wgat abd wgere.21:43
dr_Willisbargin bin linux books are great. :)21:43
K`zanrysiek|pl: I assume so, offered the version upgrade and, sigh, I trusted it :-/.21:43
rysiek|plK`zan: you should be on 7.10 now, then21:44
rysiek|plK`zan: cat /etc/issue.net21:44
cyberponixthe only other thing "acive" on the wireless card is "support for atheros 802.11 wireless lan card"21:44
rysiek|plK`what does it say21:44
K`zanrysiek|pl: It never said, I assumed... :-)21:44
rysiek|plcyberponix: yeah, disable it21:44
K`zanrysiek|pl: {~} $ cat /etc/issue.net <cr>Ubuntu 8.04.121:45
rysiek|plK`zan: then you have upgraded from 7.1021:45
rysiek|plstrange21:45
K`zanrysiek|pl: Yes21:45
cyberponixk done21:45
minhaaji have read huge documentation on linux and my problem is that i always discuss it21:45
K`zanrysiek|pl: Yes :-)21:45
cyberponixI will need a restart correct?21:45
minhaajthis is how we all learn. if that were the case nobody needed teachers21:45
rysiek|plcyberponix: nope21:45
rysiek|plcyberponix: it's not windoze ;)21:45
cyberponixk?21:45
minhaajand thats what i was doing, discussing problems when you routed me off to books again :)21:45
K`zanrysiek|pl: also broke my USB filesystem devices - having to do that under wincrap now :-( :-(.21:45
cyberponixthis I know21:45
rysiek|plcyberponix: now: sudo apt-get install build-essential bin8621:45
cyberponixlol21:45
K`zanrysiek|pl: Should I just backup ~ and do a wipe/reinstall?21:46
rysiek|plK`zan: try: sudo dpkg --configure -a21:46
K`zanrysiek|pl: Yes, Sir - doing that now - thanks!21:46
rysiek|plK`zan: and *always* keep /home on a separate partition, that way you won't have to backup it upon reinstall ;)21:46
dr_Willisminhaaj,  when you start missusing common linux terms its time to refer you to  the books/guides/docs.   Because we end up just rambling on about stuff you then missunderstand even more. Good luck. The wife is hollering at me.21:46
minhaajlol21:47
cyberponixI find it funnie the webcam was easier tto getgoing than the wireless21:47
minhaajwifes are harder than linux21:47
K`zanrysiek|pl: You betcha and rsynced to another partition regularly as well.21:47
K`zanrysiek|pl: {~} $ dpkg --configure -a21:47
K`zan[root@witch1] Sat Jul 05 13:46:52 [258]21:47
K`zanNothing that I could tell?!?21:47
dr_Willisand i will point out that from what ive been reading on the g4l web site. its a bootable iso image. that can clone the whole system :)  I may check that out as soon as it downloads..21:47
dr_Willissounds like a handy backup tool.21:48
rysiek|plK`zan: ho-humm...21:48
dr_Willisbbl ya all.21:48
rysiek|plcya dr_Willis21:48
cyberponixl8r doc21:48
K`zanrysiek|pl: Yes, sigh, when will I ever learn to not trust major upgrades :-/21:48
rysiek|plcyberponix: are you installing the stuff I pasted you?21:48
cyberponixjust finished21:49
minhaajgreat let me know if it works21:49
rysiek|plK`zan: lemme think21:49
K`zanrysiek|pl: Thanks much, appreciate your efforts!21:49
minhaajbut i appreciate your discussing it with me for a long time willis.21:49
minhaajlinux is what it is because of great people like you :)21:49
rysiek|plK`zan: the only way I see is either: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -a21:49
K`zanrysiek|pl: Glad I didn't go for kde4, tried that off the live and it seems to be almost as good as gnome, hope that isn't final!21:49
K`zanrysiek|pl: Did that...21:49
rysiek|plK`zan: *or*: sudo apt-get -f install21:50
K`zanOops No I didn't21:50
rysiek|plgo for it ;)21:50

rysiek|plcyberponix: and ping me when it's downloaded :)21:52
cyberponixafk21:52
rysiek|plK`zan: I have kde4.1 as a second session in KDM, it's not that bad21:53
K`zanrysiek|pl: First thing I tried was moving the K Menu button and apparently now there is no way - like (ugh) wincrap - it goes where it goes, assume you can't move others as well but didn't try.21:53
rysiek|plK`zan: yeah, they are working on it, you can move the panels by now21:54
rysiek|plK`zan: remember that kde4 is mainly a lot of changes in the backends21:54
rysiek|plK`zan: decent front-ends are being done, but that takes time :)21:54
K`zanrysiek|pl: Will watch it as I am an OLD time KDE junkie :), nothing else will do, but I am VERY comfortable with the way KDE3 works.21:55
rysiek|plK`zan: same here ;)21:55
cyberponixbac21:55
cyberponixback*21:55
K`zanGnome just doesn't work for me.  Others too minimalistic or too resource intensive.21:56
rysiek|plK`zan: take dolphin for example. that thing sucks big time compared with konqueror; konqueror is t3h uber l33t file manager21:56
rysiek|plK`zan: BUT there are some options that are great there21:56
rysiek|plK`zan: like the new view (kill me, I don't remember the name), that got backported to konqueror in kde421:57
cyberponixkonqueror kicks the 5[-]17 out of dolphin21:57
rysiek|plK`zan: hence my confidence that in a year I will be happily sitting on kde4; I need one thing badly though21:57
rysiek|plBaghira, dammit!!21:57
rysiek|plcyberponix: did it download?21:58
