=== Double_D is now known as SergeantPony2 === hoban_ is now known as hoban === LSD|Ninj1 is now known as LSD|Ninja [02:35] I have a GeForce 6100 nForce 430. The restricted driver manager does not show anything to install. [02:35] yoyoned: that's normal right now [02:36] LSD|Ninja: any thing I can hack about to get it to work [02:36] I'm not sure [02:37] LSD|Ninja: ok, thanks [02:37] you could install nvidia-glx manually but I think a recent round of updates broke that too [06:30] Anyone else getting weird bootsplash corruption and problems with the gdm greeter? O_o === Luckrider_ is now known as Luckrider [07:10] hi === catweazle_ is now known as catweazle [11:15] LSD|Ninja: Yes, every now and then; maybe it's a race condition in the framebuffer driver? [11:18] At least I'm not alone there like I seem to be on the greeter thing. I wish I knew wtf was up with that, even changing from gdmgreeter to gdmlogin still doesn't seem to get me any closer to the GUI. It used to work, soemthing has broken I jsut have nfi what [11:32] Oh, it works almost all the time for me. When the framebuffer is messed up, it also messes up X. [11:34] It started out that just the progress bar would be screwed up but a recent round of (pre Alpha 2) updates messed it up entirely though it does come good every once in a while and of course I get the greeter crashing message [11:38] Nah, I don't got that. [11:40] is X fixed? [11:46] it depends on how it was broken for you :P [11:48] it wasn't [11:48] i didn't upgrade yet [11:48] X appears to work for me, I just can't log in or do anything because gdm keeps crashing [11:52] ok i'll wait some longer before upgrading === jscinoz_ is now known as jscinoz [12:15] Anyone running Intrepid that can open .diff.gz files with file-roller? I don't seem to be able to. eg http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/file-roller/file-roller_2.23.3-0ubuntu2.diff.gz === jscinoz is now known as jscinoz_ === jscinoz_ is now known as jscinoz === Skiess1 is now known as Skiessi === gnomefre1k is now known as gnomefreak [17:14] >_< latest xorg-xserver-core update restored my greeter but the splash is still b0rked, going to try a final reinstall and see what happens [17:46] hi... I'm using kubuntu, and it stopped working after an update... kdm do not work anymore [17:46] Klanticus: should be fixed in in 4:4.0.98-0ubuntu2 [17:46] and the bootsplash don't work too [17:47] Klanticus: all kinds of weird corruption? [17:48] ranging from the bar appearing in three different places to what looks like a siblinal digital message? [17:48] LSD|Ninja: no... it just doesn't appear [17:48] LSD|Ninja: it show me the console [17:49] In Intrepid? [17:50] Pici: kubuntu 8.10 alpha 1 (amd64) [17:51] Klanticus: Just checking ;) [17:51] Klanticus: I get that from time to time too but I have no idea if it's something I've done or related to the main issue I'm having [17:51] i'm fetching more updates now... let's see if they solve the problem [17:51] I've not had a splash since I upgraded a hardy install to pre-alpha1 [17:52] JontheEchidna: I had splash before this update [17:52] splash works in Hardy. It's 1280x1024 (I'd rather it be 1024x768) but it works. Intrepid is where is went crazy [17:52] works for me* [18:02] well... it's not working yet... looks like kdm can't find some theme file [18:02] it just show a message complaining about not finding a theme and then exits [18:03] Klanticus: what version is kdm at? [18:04] JontheEchidna: Version: 4:4.0.98-0ubuntu1 [18:04] Riddell said 0-ubuntu2 should fix it [18:05] *-0ubuntu2 [18:05] so I'd watch for that [18:05] JontheEchidna: how do I get it? apt isn't downloading it [18:05] I don't think it's done building yet [18:06] JontheEchidna: ah... ok.. I'll wait them [18:06] JontheEchidna: thank you [18:06] np [18:09] why is opengl (kde4 kwin effects to be specific) broken in intrepid? [18:13] opengl came up on the "wheel of broken" today [18:15] it has been broken for over a week [18:24] Does ubuntu will change that dark brown theme in ubuntu 8.10? [18:26] In alpha 2 ubuntu's look didnt changed [18:26] Maybe this will be final look ? [18:27] I have no idea what they were smoking when they came up with the new theme in Intrepid, people want *less* brown, not more [18:27] * JontheEchidna uses kubuntu so he doesn't have to deal with that :D [18:28] LSD|Ninja: thats it [18:28] But i that look isn't ugly for me :D [18:29] JontheEchidna: you have to deal with KDE, which is worse :P [18:29] * JontheEchidna starts flamewar [18:29] *obligatory [18:30] LSD|Ninja: >:( kde is not bad [20:14] I *hate* ath5k, please put madwifi back in in time for release [20:24] what's the way to install nvidia now again? [20:41] LSD|Ninja: I used sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-173 for my card. [20:41] Then I used nvidia-settings to generate a new xorg.conf [20:42] I can't validate that that's the preferred method, but it worked for me. [20:44] That brought in the source package which built the appropriate kernel module. [20:44] That being said, that was the third nvidia-glx- package I tried (1 because I was hasty, 1 because my card was listed). [20:47] I'll give that a go as soon as the restricted-extras get done installing [21:16] Anyone else using Kmail? [21:17] for the love of all that's holy how in the hell do I kill that utterly retarded PC Speaker as a sound card driver? >_< [21:17] LSD|Ninja: rmmod pcspkr? [21:17] that should kill it for good :P [21:17] (and blacklist so it wont be loaded on boot) [21:18] Unksi: I tried that and snd_pcsm, neither worked. It still sounds like my hard disk crashes each time I log in [21:18] ok === matt64- is now known as erle- [21:24] papabean: I am on hardy. but I'm guessing you're asking about intrepid since you're in here === emma is now known as emmy [21:26] Unless you're experiencing crashes right after mail retrieval on IMAP accounts. [21:26] The problem could be the same. [21:26] Hard to troubleshoot what's going on since even running from console gives no good output. === catweazle_ is now known as catweazle [22:50] I have installed linux-restricted-modules but I still can't modprobe ath_{hal,pci} [22:51] I have installed linux-restricted-modules but I still can't modprobe ath_{hal,pci} [22:55] linux-restricted-modules are for an older kernel, the ydon't work in Intrepid [22:55] which is a shame, because ath5k really, really sucks [23:07] LSD|Ninja, ath5k works great in Fedora 9 for me [23:07] LSD|Ninja, Is it missing features / unstable ( why does it suck ) ? [23:08] Actually, ath5k sucked more in Fedora than it does in Intrepid but it still doesn't work anywhere near as well as madwifi [23:09] LSD|Ninja, Doesn't work at all for me in intrepid, what problems have you had with it? [23:09] In Fedora it could never keep a connection up for a few minutes whereas in Intrepid it's relatively stable but is dog slow [23:10] LSD|Ninja, Did you have to do anything special to get ath5k to work in intrepid? [23:11] Nope, it was as easy to get going as madwifi in Hardy [23:11] Well, when I could get into the GUI that is === valehru is now known as beilabs_home [23:56] Any ideas on how to troubleshoot ath5k not working?
