WubbbiHello :) I'm Using Kubuntu ( KDE 4.1 ) IntrepidIbex on my Test Computer to report most bugs as possible :). I have 3 Suggestion. But i dont know if they are Kubuntu- or KDE bugs. So let me give you some :D. 1. The small Icons of Application in the Plasma Kicker are designet wrong. Sometimes they are Pretty and somethimes they are white and usvisible. 2. I cant get an Transparent Kicker ( in the nightly of Kde 4.1 its works perfect ). Or10:50
Wubbbimaybe its my fault i dont know. 3. The system ( i mean KDE 4.1 RC1 ) is much slower than in the nightly on HardyHeron. Maybe its because of the kernel or so on but i have used the same driver and the same configuration. So I can say that it is 40% slower. :) If you have any question about it pleas ask me :D10:50
tictricRiddell: I started it now by typing *sopranod* on commandline10:51
tictricIn my selfcompiled trunk it sort of starts up on it's own when needed first in a session (las part guessed)10:51
Riddellright10:52
tictricI've never dived into the details (yet)10:53
Riddellhi Wubbbi10:53
Wubbbihi :)10:53
Riddell1) sounds like an upstream issue, maybe an X driver issue10:53
Riddell2) how do you make it transparent10:54
=== hunger_t is now known as hunger
Riddell3) is pretty hard to debug10:54
WubbbiRiddell: 2) in the nightly of KDE 4.1 ( Nightly Neon Project ) I just have had to enable the effects and it works. But noch on Kubuntu IntrepidIbex :( I dont know how to aktivate them.10:55
WubbbiRiddell: 1) OK thats may possible :) But i just wanted to report this ^^10:56
Wubbbi3) Yes thats right. But why dont you use more vanilla? may than it was faster? Maybe its a fault of Debian patches?10:56
Riddellhumph, kwin compositing has broken lots in rc 1 it seems11:13

Tonio_Riddell: sorry for the bad upload.... I was too quick11:33
WubbbiI have an other suggestion: When I'm Installing the package "Kubuntu Restricted extra" On IntrepidIbex: It will install some gnome files and firefox. Is thats normal? I gues that on Hardy it just install Media Codecs. :/11:33
RiddellWubbbi: that shouldn't happen11:34
RiddellXand3r: mailody complains that akonadi isn't running, otherwise it's all good11:35
Riddelloh and it started akonadi, so no problem11:35

Riddellah, you worked out the sourceforge watch?11:42

Wubbbiok ^^ i will report it on kde12:35

Tonio_Riddell: interesting....12:37
Tonio_Riddell: also what is the status of kdeprint ?12:37
Riddelldead, we need to port system-config-printer12:37
Tonio_Riddell: cause the system-config-printer thing is cool, but doesn't help when installing a network printer for example12:37

apacheloggerhm12:49
apacheloggerthe filter bar has a pretty in-your-face-close-button12:50
Tonio_is that really a problem ?12:50
apacheloggernot a problem, but a quirk12:50
Tonio_ho and also, I would remove that "zoom out" plasma thing12:50
apacheloggerlooks quite weird IMO12:50
Tonio_that'll confuse people a LOT12:50
apacheloggerTonio_: we did for 4.0 already12:51
Tonio_apachelogger: we should do that for the final release imho12:51

Tonio_the concept is interesting since you can switch your desktop entirelly depending what you are doing, but the usability is currently a nightmare12:53
Tonio_apachelogger: that was on intrepid beta212:53
Tonio_apachelogger: clean installation btw12:53
JontheEchidnafor 4.2 they plan to map activities to virtual desktops12:53

apacheloggerRiddell: JontheEchidna did some work on that12:54

WubbbiJontheEchidna: good guy ;) xD13:00
Tonio_Riddell: does that need source patching ????13:00
RiddellTonio_: not sure, I expect there's a way to define it in the theme as well13:00
Tonio_Riddell: I think there might be a way....13:01
Riddellapachelogger: kdeaccessibility.diff looks good, shall I upload?13:01
Tonio_Riddell: ./plasma-appletsrc:wallpaper=13:02
Tonio_Riddell: I suspect this in kds to work, no ?13:02
RiddellTonio_: probably, I don't actually want to change the default wallpaper currently13:02

Tonio_Riddell: true13:03
* JontheEchidna switches users to test, hopes X doesn't die for this session13:03
Tonio_Riddell: well we'll probably end up with a kds wallpaper btw, no ?13:03
WubbbiRiddell: why dont you want to change it yet?13:04
RiddellTonio_: I'd like to keep the artwork as close to KDE's defaults as is sensible, so maybe a variation on what KDE has but not a complete change13:04
RiddellWubbbi: because oxygen rocks and I think we should make good use of KDE's excellent artists :)13:04
apachelogger+113:04
mooperehm, I was able to delete my trash folder13:05
Riddellhow recursive13:05
WubbbiRiddell: But when you are changing the default wallpaper, the Desktop will not be ugly?!13:05
Riddelldepends if we choose an ugly wallpaper..13:06
Wubbbibut Blue_Cure is not ugly ... ^^ i like it :D13:06
mooperI dont suppose anyone know how I might get it to come back?13:06
JontheEchidnaOne thing I don't like about the default plasma theme is the half-transparency of the panel background in compositing mode13:06
JontheEchidnait makes it look leaky13:07
JontheEchidnasince only the bottom half is transparent13:07
Tonio_Riddell: I agree we shouldn't tweak too much.... but a kubuntu wallpaper is not a big deal...13:08
Tonio_mooper: does that work for you ? i can't empty the trash on my own...13:09
RiddellJontheEchidna: got a screenshot?  compositing has stopped working for me in RC 1 :(13:09
mooperTonio_: er? sorry? does what work?13:10
Tonio_mooper: nope, the trash plasmod cannot empty the trash here13:10
Tonio_plasmoid13:10
Wubbbione question ... why does Kubuntu IntrepidIbex use the Knetworkmanager from Kde 3.5.9? Oo Or is there no one for KDE 4.1?13:11
WubbbiI hate it to use Kde 3 and kde 4 programs at once xD13:11
Tonio_no frontend exists atm13:12
Riddellthe KDE 4 one doesn't work yet Wubbbi13:12
mooperTonio_: plasmoid?13:12
mooperer13:12
Wubbbibut will it work till Kubuntu 8.10 will ne releast?13:12
RiddellTonio_: it exists (playground/base/plasma) but unfinnished13:12
Wubbbine = be13:12
Tonio_Riddell: yeah I know :)13:12
apacheloggerWubbbi: we don't know13:12
Tonio_Riddell: well imho as long as it is unfinished, it doesn't exist from the user's perspective :)13:13
Wubbbi:/ let me pray ... and what is about Kmix? nocht frontend atm? oO very bad xD13:13
* Riddell promotes Tonio_ from user to developer :)13:13
Tonio_hehe :)13:13
HobbseeRiddell: you now own another team.13:14
JontheEchidnaKmix has a frontend13:14
JontheEchidnaKmix is installed by default afaik13:15
Wubbbiohh ... right i see ^^ sorry13:15
JontheEchidnaIt just doesn't run by default13:15
Riddelldoes for me13:15
mooperguys, I was able to delete the trash icon from dolphin. I think thats a little shabby13:15
Tonio_works for me too13:15
JontheEchidnait didn't in hardy until I started it one session13:15
* JontheEchidna shrugs13:15
mooperIts still there is konqueror13:16
Tonio_Wubbbi: in any case we'll have to wait for 4.2 and intrepid+1 for a complete kde4 desktop13:16
mooperis there a symlink or something13:16
mooper?13:16
Tonio_Wubbbi: 4.1 will not be a complete one13:16
WubbbiTonio_: why Intrepid+1 oO will there be a second point releas?13:16
JontheEchidnathe upstream apps just won't all be ready by intrepid13:17
Wubbbiähhhh ... ok i understand ... my fault xD13:17
JontheEchidnaso we'll have to fill in the cracks with kde3 ones13:17
Tonio_Wubbbi: no kubuntu 9.04 :)13:17
WubbbiTonio_: My brain is still sleeping13:17
Tonio_JontheEchidna: true that13:17
WubbbixD13:17
JontheEchidnaBut overall I think Intrepid should be much nicer than Hardy.13:18
Wubbbii hope so ^^13:19
JontheEchidnaWell it has KDE 4.1 by default instead of 4.0 so it has to be nicer. ;)13:19
Wubbbiyes13:20
Tonio_Riddell: also, any idea if raptor will be there for 4.1 ?13:20
Riddellnope13:20
JontheEchidnaTonio_: It won't13:20
Wubbbikdebase-workspace 4:4.0.98-0ubuntu4 ...  very good update ;)13:20
Tonio_okay, 4.2 then...13:20
* JontheEchidna doesn't know13:21
Tonio_Riddell: also, since we have dolphin by default, should we still install the filemanager profile for konqueror ?13:21
Tonio_people that really want konqueror by default can create their own one no ?13:21
Wubbbiwas it possible to make this kickoff menu the default in kubuntu 8.10? its much nicer and better :/ http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Idea+For+Kickoff+Menu+V3?content=8474713:22
WubbbiTonio_: i agree with you. Konqueror should be just the brower now ;)13:22
JontheEchidnaWubbbi: that's just a mockup. that menu doesn't exist atm13:23
Wubbbiohhh ... ok sorry ^^13:23
Tonio_Riddell: also, the launcher has 2 konqueror entries, that confused me a bit recently, that's why I wouldn't install the profile and desktop file associated to it by default....13:23
JontheEchidnaplus it looks like lancelot will do pretty much what that does in 4.213:23
Tonio_Riddell: I can fix that if you agree13:23
WubbbiTonio_: i would like it ;)13:24
RiddellTonio_: ok with me13:24
Tonio_Riddell: also I saw no kubuntu-debian-differences file in the packages, aren't you willing to sync sometimes ?13:24
Tonio_cause we've touched .install files and so on...13:24
Tonio_well at least I did :)13:25
RiddellTonio_: feel free to add one, we certainly sync at least once a cycle13:26
Tonio_ok13:26
WubbbiTonio_: but dont creat new bugs ;)13:27
Tonio_Wubbbi: I'll try not to :)13:28
Riddellk-d-s question, konqueror to restore on startup or not? (or keep asking in an annoying way)13:28

* JontheEchidna will have a lot to poke Riddell about once he gets back21:24
yuriyJontheEchidna: writing things down?21:26
JontheEchidnayuriy: ?21:27
yuriyall the things to ask him21:27
JontheEchidnaAh21:27
JontheEchidnamostly just things to notify him about21:27
JontheEchidnaI packaged koffice2 like he suggested21:27
JontheEchidna(new release)21:27
JontheEchidnaand then I added kfind as a build dep to dolphin21:28
JontheEchidnaand now I've packaged new upstream of kdewebdev-kde421:28
JontheEchidnaactually I could probably poke any coredev about that21:29
JontheEchidnas/that/those21:29
JontheEchidnaoh, actually since some of these aren't going to main an motu could handle 'em...21:35
JontheEchidnaCould an motu look at bug 249578 and bug 249533 ?21:37

vorianJontheEchidna: sure thingy21:51
JontheEchidnavorian: I noticed a mistake in kdewebdev, re-attaching the .dsc and diff.gz22:01
vorianJontheEchidna: hmmm22:03
JontheEchidnaI had started to fix 4.0.8322:03
JontheEchidnathen I realized kdewebdev hadn't been updated to 4.0.9822:03
vorianthis should be in main, by replacing kdewebdev22:03
JontheEchidnavorian: I think Riddell said something about quanta not being ready or something22:03
JontheEchidnaprobably would be best to ask him though22:03
vorianah, alrighty then22:03
vorianJontheEchidna: make sure when you attatch a debdiff, you mark the bug confirmed.  then subscribe the appropriate sponsors (u-m-s or u-u-s)22:06
JontheEchidnaok22:07
vorian:)22:08
JontheEchidnavorian: oh btw, did you ever get to take a look at the plasmoid-weather backport?22:09
vorianyes, looked good22:11
vorianyou mean to ppa, right?22:11
JontheEchidnayeah, to the ppa22:12
JontheEchidnavorian: if it looks good, how would I go about getting somebody to upload it to the ppa?22:13
vorianyou ask :)22:14
JontheEchidnavorian: could you upload it please? :)22:14
voriansure thing :P22:14
JontheEchidnathanks22:14
vorianno problemo22:14
JontheEchidnavorian: you've recently become an motu, do you have any tips for a prospective motu?22:15
voriansure22:15
vorianwhat kind of tips would you like?22:15
JontheEchidnahow to train at doing motu things?22:16
voriansince i'm afk a lot, I printed off documentation22:16
vorianwell, you are off to a smashing start22:16
vorianyou train by doing things you are doing now22:16
* JontheEchidna thinks he needs to learn about doing manpages22:17
vorian:)22:17
vorianyes, That was a fun stop along the learning path for me22:17
vorianwhat documentation have you read thru?22:18
JontheEchidnavorian: mainly the packaging guide22:24
vorianJontheEchidna: which one?22:24
JontheEchidnahttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Complete22:24
vorianI learned the most from the Debian New Maintainers Guide22:25
JontheEchidnaand the revu page22:25
voriangood good22:25
vorianthose are good places to start22:25
vorianbut, you have a good grasp on packaging22:25
vorianyou might find tackling some of the bite-size bugs a great learning experience22:26
* JontheEchidna discovers motu/todo wiki page22:27
JontheEchidnahttp://tinyurl.com/3cbrps <- bingo, bite-size bugs22:27
JontheEchidnaurgh, I hate how launchpad can't hide the tags list anymore22:27
vorianlol22:29
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: webdev is already packaged for intrepid22:40
JontheEchidnaapachelogger: has it not been uploaded yet or something?22:40
apacheloggerapparently not22:40
JontheEchidnaapachelogger: did you package it?22:40
apacheloggeryes22:41
JontheEchidnaThen I guess I should let you know that the build-dep that kdewebdev-dbg-kde4 has is incorrect22:41
JontheEchidnabug 24502822:41
ubottuLaunchpad bug 245028 in kdewebdev-kde4 "package kdewebdev-dbg-kde4 can't be installed (or upgraded)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/24502822:42
apacheloggerkdewebdev-dbg-kde4 has no build-dep for itself :P22:42
JontheEchidnaoh, depends, not build depends22:42
JontheEchidnaAnyway, just /s/kdelibs5-dbg/kde4libs-dbg22:43
apacheloggersounds very reasonable22:43

JontheEchidnahmm22:46
apacheloggerleading me to the conclusion that this report is not valid at all22:46
* apachelogger notes that it is quite hot in his room :S22:46
JontheEchidnaWell, I still can't install the file with hardy kde4 ppa22:46
JontheEchidnabut then that's not official ubuntu22:46
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: that needs to be fixed in the hardy ppa then22:47
apacheloggernot in intrepid22:47
JontheEchidnaapachelogger: it needs backporting in the first place, I should get on it or something22:47
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: grab it from my magic directory22:47
JontheEchidnakk22:47
apacheloggerthen just do the normal backport fun22:47
JontheEchidnaapachelogger: build deps, deps and suggests are also longer than 80 chars in the intrepid package's control file22:54
apacheloggerJontheEchidna: tell debian ;-)23:03
vorianyee haa23:03
vorianhowdy apachelogger23:04

JontheEchidnaoh, but pbuilder is currently at intrepid...23:38
JontheEchidnaHey, I don't need pbuilder because I'm already in hardy!23:39
