ppphggdn Ive make a mistake. The last install.tar I had was when I had two disks and it worked, I accidently attached it to the bug00:18
pppI no longer have the install logs for my old four hdd system00:19
pppIve added a comment to the bug explaining. Hopefully someone who does have the hardware to test this will be able to produce logs. Another user commented to being effected by it as well, it certaintly does occur00:23
ppphggdh - Im going to appeal for testing assistance on the Intrepid section of the Ubuntu forums00:31
hggdhppp, OK00:41
kgoetzcan pbuilder be used to build source packages (as though i ran 'debuild -S'). I just managed to get pbuilder installed and running, and i'd rather not create a hardy chroot now as well01:05
greg-gkgoetz: I haven't messed with pbuilder much, but the people in #ubuntu-motu probably have :)01:06
kgoetzgreg-g: i'll go and ask them my question there, thanks :)01:09
greg-gkgoetz: good luck!01:12
kgoetzgreg-g: hehe. thanks01:13
hggdhkgoetz, you use pbuilder to verify your package01:26
hggdhyou would use debuild to create the source package01:26
hggdhand pbuilder will create a special chroot01:26
kgoetzhggdh: guess i'll havve to build a hardy chroot then. cheers.01:28
kgoetzhm. pdebuild. *investigates*01:29
hggdhwell, I guess you could also use a ppa to test the package01:33
charlie-tcaCould I have someone set the status of Bug #212028 to wishlist please?01:44
ubottuLaunchpad bug 212028 in exo "Xubuntu 8.04 beta not mounting my other partitions" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21202801:44
hggdhcharlie-tca, I wonder if the NTFS drivers are packaged in the livecd01:59
hggdhI dimly remember something about them not being provided on standard installs (and perhaps on the livecd as well?), but this was some releases ago...02:01
hggdhI would like to hold on setting as wishlist until we can find about that, if you do not mind02:02
Hobbseeit has from hardy onwards02:02
Hobbseeactually, ntfs has been mounted, read only, for ages.02:02
Hobbseesince, breezy or something02:02
hggdhhey cheers Hobbsee long time02:02
Hobbseeheya :)02:02
hggdhHobbsee, what do you think -- if the bug above a wish or a real one then?02:03
hggdhs/if/is/02:04
Hobbseekgoetz: you can build the source package on any release, more or less.  it's where you build the binaries that's the big difference02:04
* Hobbsee looks02:04
Hobbseewhoever wrote that last comment is wrong - it's a bug.02:05
Hobbseeat least, i'm fairly sure it is.02:05
Hobbseemounting partitions should be desktop-agnostic, although what it does with them aftewards might not be.02:06
Hobbseehggdh: probably try asking in #xubuntu about if, if other people have it.02:06
Hobbseemaybe ask for the output of 'mount' to see if they've been mounted somewhere, and the user just hasn't found them / has been looking in the wrong place / etc02:07
Hobbseealthough, come to think of it...02:07
Hobbseeis that ntfs, or vista-filesystem partitions?02:07
Hobbseei thought they had new filesystem types for vista, and 7.10 would be too old to support them02:08
hggdhhum, might be... I forgot about vista02:10
hggdhcharlie-tca, ping?02:10
charlie-tcahggdh: I'm here02:11
hggdhsee above, for Hobbsee's input02:11
Hobbseeand i'd highly doubt it's something that would need a spec.02:12
Hobbseeparticularly when it got later advertised in the ubuntu release notes, and many of the reviews.02:12
charlie-tcasince the bug was against Xubuntu, and in Ubuntu the drives are auto mounted, it seems like a wish list item02:12
charlie-tcafor Xubuntu.02:12
charlie-tcaI thought the bug was against all drives, regardless of filesystem02:14
Hobbseedepends - it's likely intentional that it gets mounted everywhere02:15
Hobbseerather than the feature not being implemented in xubuntu02:15
charlie-tcaI can check in #xubuntu and the Xubuntu mailing list, if need be. Thanks for the advice.02:16
charlie-tcaHobbsee, the answer I got in #xubuntu is that they won't automount using Xubuntu Live CD, nor should they02:22
Hobbseewas teh answer from a reputable source?02:23
charlie-tcaI think so, let me check for sure, though02:24
HewHey guys, haven't got a reply from #ubuntu-devel so I'll ask here. Is there a page somewhere that defines the usage of depends/recommends/suggests for a package? I have an idea of what they are for, but figured there should be a guideline/policy for it somewhere to define the grey areas.02:25
pwnguinheh02:26
pwnguinthere is a small one02:26
pwnguinlemme find the link02:26
pwnguinapt-get install debian-policy02:26
HobbseeHew: yes, it's in debian policy02:26
Hewwow, there's actually a package for this stuff. Thanks, I'll take a look.02:28
charlie-tcaHobbsee: I'm going to put this through the mailing-list, then I can decide.02:29
charlie-tcaThanks for helping02:29
Hobbseey/w02:29
pwnguinHew: yea, debian takes that stuff srsly02:31
Hewpwnguin: yea, it's good to have it written down somewhere. Trying to work out depends/recommends atm in bug #23181102:33
ubottuLaunchpad bug 231811 in prboom "freedom is a dependancy for prboom... but shouldn't" [Low,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/23181102:33
hggdhsorry, had my son on the phone (just moved to Belgium, first night there, and he is WIDE awake...)02:34
pwnguinHew: i think there's some discussion about pulling recommends by default02:36
Hewpwnguin: yes, recommends gets pulled by default in synaptic / apt-get / others afaik02:37
kgoetzHobbsee: it does require i install the build-deps for the package for teh debuild to succeed though (i thought)02:46
Hobbseekgoetz: indeed.02:52
WilDecHi. New to Ubuntu.  Trying to install 8.04.1 on RAID partitions.  Failing. due to mangled superblocks.  Found two directly-relevant bugs (https://bugs.launchpad.net/~justin-traer).03:38
WilDecThey're long-lived (~3 years), still present in Hardy, and not-resolved (one's 'Triaged').   I'm completely unfamiliar with Bug Process 'here' ...03:38
WilDecWhat's the right next step for getting them looked at?03:38

bahadunnhi14:38
bahadunnthere is a bug for kqemu-source14:39
bahadunnBug 24949314:39
ubottuLaunchpad bug 249493 in kqemu "[hardy] kqemu-source has missing dependency" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/24949314:39
bahadunnif installed with aptitude libc6-dev is installed so there is no problem14:39
bahadunnbut with apt-get libc6-dev is not installed so the module cannot build14:39
bahadunnI have tested this on i386 and amd64 so I was wondering if it is okay to assign the status of this bug as confirmed14:40
bahadunnI also made a patch for the package with build depends for libc6-dev14:40
bahadunnI want to make sure I am following correct procedure is why I am asking14:41
norsettobahadunn: libc6-dev is a recommended package, it won't be installed by default in hardy14:50
bahadunnnorsetto: right but if one apt-get install kqemu-source libc6-dev which is required to build kqemu would not be installed15:01
bahadunnnorsetto: shouldn't kqemu-source depend on libc6-dev instead of recommending it?15:01
norsettobahadunn: its ok in intrepid and its not worth fixing in hardy, just confirm the bug so that people are aware they have to install it manually15:02
bahadunnokay15:02
bahadunnso I can comment that this issue is fixed in intrepid?15:03
norsettobahadunn: yes, by default we install recommends15:03
bahadunnokay15:04
thekornbdmurray, hi, when you have some time, it would be nice if you could review and test lp:~thekorn/python-launchpad-bugs/new.httpconnection15:21
thekornit fixes the one-shot session bug, and merges the config files15:22
thekorn(the one for the testcases and the username file for the http-header)15:22
bdmurraythekorn: I'm still in London so it probably won't be until early next week15:22
thekornthere are also some improvements to the testsuite15:23
thekornbdmurray, no problem, take your time, it's not urgent15:23
bdmurraythekorn: actually, it might be a great thing to test now as I could get someone to check the logs easily15:23

mouzhi. i linked a bug with a fixed debian bug. it is the first time i linked a bug. as it is fixed i'd like to set the status to 'fixed released', but i'm not allow to do so. also i wonder what should be done with the status of the ubuntu task. can someone help me with these? thanks :) it is bug 24907620:25
ubottuLaunchpad bug 249076 in apt-build "dpkg incorrectly setting up entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/24907620:25
charlie-tcamouz, I think you have to change the status of the line you added, right? I can't even figure out how to do that link yet.20:29
joumetalmouz: I think it will update status automatically if you wait for while.20:34
hggdhmouz, launchpad will update the linked upstream bugs by itself20:35
mouzhggdh: thanks. should i leave the ubuntu task to status 'confirmed'?20:35
hggdhnow varies...20:37
hggdhlet me look atthe bug20:37
hggdhI do not think so. It can be set to triaged, but -- until the new version is packaged, it should not go to fix commited/fix released.20:39
mouzhggdh: ok so i should file a merge request?20:39
mouz(i checked that it must not be a sync)20:40
hggdhusually the maintainers are pretty up to speed; if the fix is a critical one (which seems not to be the case), then a merge would be warranted20:41
hggdhso we leave it as it is until a mantainer gets to it.20:41
hggdh(I updated to triaged)20:41
mouzok thanks a lot for your help :)20:41
hggdhyou are welcome. Thank YOU for helping ;-)20:42

AwsoonnI am wanting to clean up the wiki a bit; https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBugDay21:59
Awsoonnare the MOTU tasts really needed here?21:59

thekornAwsoonn, I don't have a strict opinion on this, I think this MOTU related bits are there traditionally,22:09
thekornIMHO, removing them or moving them to another place should be done after talking to leading members of the MOTU and Bug teams,22:10
