Picioh.23:08
* Pici twiddles this thumbs23:09
* nickrud 's coworkers are beginning to think I'm scamming them, trying to get out of work23:09
naliothnickrud: this is an important meeting23:10
naliothcan't you tell?23:10
nickrudnalioth absolutely. Last to know, first to show ;)23:10
naliothi have things to cover, but really don't want to begin w/o the other councilors23:11
naliothanyone got their phone or pager numbers?23:12
* jussi01 looks23:13
* stdin looks in23:14
jussi01nope, nothing, sorry :/23:15
PriceChildRight I'm back, sorry for being late.23:15
jussi01yay23:15
PriceChildI had a few things too, but haven't added them to the wiki yet. *checks its current status*23:16
jussi01waiting on elkbuntu now?23:16
PriceChildwe'll give her till when my clock says 20 past, then me and nalioth can fight over who starts.23:18
PriceChildSpeaking for myself, I think my points for this meeting are simply for openning discussion/beginning things, rather than making decisions here and now.23:18
PriceChildRight lets start.23:21
PriceChild1. Ubuntustudio & The IRC Council23:22
PriceChildSo this is mainly an FYI. The Ubuntu Studio (I believe) are happy with the IRC Council's management of channels, and would like to make sure we can look after theirs, which will also help keep them in the core ubuntu community and governance structure.23:24
PriceChildThis means that they probably need to make a little mini statement, on the wiki or their ML etc. and we go through the GCF process with freenode to ensure we can fix things if they go wrong.23:25
PriceChildHey _MMA_23:26
_MMA_PriceChild: Ya shoulda poked me. :P23:26
PriceChild_MMA_: sorry :)23:27
PriceChildRight so hopefully, the irc council can sort this out with the ubuntustudio leadership, ensure both sides are happy and things get done. I don't think there's much more to say about it tbh?23:28
jussi01not from me.23:28
PriceChildSo a, mini statement b, gcf23:28
_MMA_Nothing really to "sort" but to do it right?23:28
PriceChildYup.23:29
PriceChildAnyone got any comments on that before we move on?23:29
PiciI have no comments.23:29
jussi01we can do that :)23:29
PriceChildOh one point...23:29
PriceChildwith the irc council getting gc status with freenode etc... the council and ubuntu-irc is *not* going to take over the management of all their channels etc. etc.23:30
PriceChildThe leadership there will stay as they are, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". And the 'ubuntu-irc' team on launchpad will remain a group of operators the council reccomends if any group needs some.23:30
=== ubottu changed the topic of #ubuntu-meeting to: Current meeting: IRC Council | Calendar: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/event | Logs: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MeetingLogs/ | 22 Jul 11:00 UTC: Asia and Oceania Ubuntu Membership Approval Board | 22 Jul 15:00 UTC: Server Team | 22 Jul 18:00 UTC: LoCo Council | 23 Jul 17:00 UTC: QA Team | 23 Jul 22:00 UTC: Platform Team
_MMA_PriceChild: SOunds good here.23:31
PriceChildSo as far as everyone but the council is concerned... things stay exactly as they were :)23:31
PriceChildnalioth: want to do the next one?23:31
naliothas you folks may have noticed, the council is down a couple of folks23:32
naliothwe'd like to accept nominations for 2 people to assume positions on it23:33
nickrudI don't know if he's interested, but I'd nominate ompaul23:34
PriceChildsteady on there :)23:34
naliothplesae send your nominations to irc-council@lists.ubuntu.com23:34
cody-somervilleI nominate Alan Pope (popey) and Nick Ali (boredandblogging).23:35
* nickrud hates slow typists, he thinks they're done ;)23:35
PiciCan nominations come from non irc-team members?23:36
jussi01nalioth: what would you like in the email? just a name? or more?23:36
PriceChildhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/IrcTeam/IrcCouncil roughly outlines the process of nominations.23:36
naliothjussi01: eventually, there will be a vote23:36
PriceChildI think the best way to go is for people to decide themselves whether they want to run or not, and notify the IRC Council.23:37
PriceChildBest way is through irc-council@lists.ubuntu.com23:38
cody-somervilleIs it still a requirement that an IRC Council candidate has to have the support of atleast one existing member of the council?23:38
PriceChildcody-somerville: the wiki explains requirements23:38
elkbuntuawake now23:38
jussi01yay :D23:38
cody-somervillePriceChild, I'm simply asking for clarification.23:38
PriceChildcody-somerville: - The nominees support from at least one active IRC Council member (essential)23:39
PriceChildThe IRC Council will send a mail to ubuntu-irc@l.u.c so that nobody misses it, and maybe post a few more announcements elsewhere.23:39
jussi01By what date should nominations be in?23:39
PriceChildWe'll probably set a deadline in that email. (now elky's back we can decide now)23:40
elkbuntutry not to make it so early on a weekend for me. as you see it makes it prone to failure23:40
PriceChildthen we'll publish the list of candidates that would like to run, and you should all either post testimonials on their wiki pages, or send a mail to irc-council@l.u.c with your opinions23:40
elkbuntuif dont get my weekend sleepins, i burn out during the week from the commute23:41
cody-somervillePriceChild, How many people can one person nominate?23:41
PriceChildFinally, the council will add their annotations, and forward the list to the community council, who make the decision, after perhaps getting us a little more involved.23:41
PriceChildPlease someone shout up if that all seems silly or doesn't follow the wiki page or could be done better :)23:42
naliothcody-somerville: he amended it to "let folks nominate themselves"23:42
PriceChildcody-somerville: "1216507069 20080719T233749 < PriceChild> I think the best way to go is for people to decide themselves whether they want to run or not, and notify the IRC  Council.23:42
PriceChild"23:42
cody-somervilleok23:43
PriceChildby all means give them a poke if they don't follow the ubuntu-irc ML and think they'd be interested.23:43
jussi01PriceChild: so, to clarify, for those interested they should send a mail nominationting themselves to the irc-council ML ???23:44
naliothjussi01: correct23:45
jussi01ok, good, thats clear then.23:45
PriceChildjussi01: I think that's the way to go, I'd rather not have lots of emails nominating people who aren't interested. As I said above, if you want to nominate someone, tell them, and if they're interested they'll go for it :)23:45
PriceChildnalioth: elkbuntu: Happy with the above? Anything you would like to add/correct/change... or still catching up?23:47
naliothPriceChild: it all looks good23:47
jussi01I have actually something to bring up, if someone wants to let me know an appropriate time for that.23:47
elkbuntuPriceChild, probably not wise i try comment while still rubbing sleep from my eyes23:48
PriceChildelkbuntu: right well when you catch up on it, just give me a bell. I'll probably find your messages about this time tomorrow. I might also draft the email and drop it on a pastebin tonight before I disappear.23:49
PriceChildCool, so moving on.23:49
elkbuntuhave fun. make sure you heckle jono heaps23:51
PriceChildjussi01: so what do you have for us?23:51
jussi01PriceChild: I wanted to propose/discus the idea of having shorter terms for council members -say, 1 year, perhaps.23:52
PriceChildI think this is something to bring up with the CC tbh.23:53
jussi01ok.23:53
PriceChildI personally see no problem with 2 year terms....23:53
PriceChild*AS LONG AS* people follow the CoC/LCoC and "step down considerably" type thing :)23:54
PriceChildas well as all the other clauses23:54
jussi01hehe, I just dont feel people should have to commit for that long - alot of things can happen in the space of 2 years.23:54
elkbuntuthe irc council has a considerably smaller pool of people to derive from, in some cases it's not ideal to enforce a 1yr limit23:55
PriceChildOf course yes.23:55
PriceChildAlthough there is a commitment, we can still step down if we can no longer fulfill our duties.23:55
nickrudIs there any reason that stints on the council couldn't be consecutive?23:56
cody-somervilleThey can be23:56
cody-somervillethe wiki says so23:56
jussi01nickrud: the wiki says they can be re-elected23:56
nickrudso, one year commitments with an option for renewal ;)23:56
* cody-somerville nods.23:56
PriceChildBut the CC approves the document, so if there is an issue with that then I think we need to draw up a proposal on the wiki, add discussion and add it to the agenda for one of their meetings.23:57
PriceChildSo any other items people want to bring to the table?23:58
naliothfor those of you who aren't aware of this page:  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IrcTeam/IrcCouncil/MeetingAgenda                y'all can fill it in as you think of stuff23:59
naliothany other business?23:59
