DurtDiggleranybody know of any obvious reasons that my mythtv seems as if it's recording my programs, but all the .nuv files are only about 57.3KB in size and the png files are just black03:04
hadsWhat type of capture card?03:05
hadsAlso03:05
DurtDigglerpvr 25003:05
hads!logs03:05
ZinnMythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/03:05
hadsAt a guess, you've got it setup as the wrong type of card in mythtv-setup03:05
DurtDigglerhm03:06
hadsRecordings from a PVRx50 should be mpg03:06
tgm4883_laptopyea the pvr 250 shouldn't make .nuv files03:06
DurtDigglerohh03:06
DurtDigglerwhats the name of the log I should be checking03:06
hadsthe backend one, but I'd guess that's your issue.03:07
tgm4883_laptopit would be the backend log, but i'd just fix the card type03:07
hadssnap :)03:07
DurtDigglerright now I only have a backend03:07
DurtDigglerI should still be able to record and see my recordings thorugh mythweb right?03:07
tgm4883_laptopit's /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log03:07
tgm4883_laptopnot if it's not recording03:07
tgm4883_laptopwhich i assume it's not03:08
DurtDigglerwell yah03:08
hadsBut yes03:08
DurtDigglerlemme check the card settings03:08
DurtDigglerwhat shoudl the card type be03:10
DurtDigglerfor a pvr 25003:11
tgm4883_laptoperr03:11
DurtDigglercard type should be03:11
tgm4883_laptophardware encoder card?03:11
DurtDiggler*03:11
tgm4883_laptopI believe it says something to the effect of (PVR-XXX)03:12
hadsYeah, Hardware MPEG (PVR-x50) or something to that effect.03:12
DurtDigglerwell Im looking through the drop down in the mythtv setup03:12
hadsYes03:12
DurtDiggleroh duh03:12
DurtDiggleryeah I missed that one03:13
hads:)03:13
SHADOW__Xwhats settings need to be used inside xorg to get dvi and tv out in a asus m2npv-vm03:13
DurtDigglerno wonder this things not working03:13
DurtDiggleris it true you can run a front end just from a CD?03:16
DurtDigglerI thought I read that somewhere03:16
SHADOW__Xusing mythbuntu03:16
SHADOW__Xyes03:16
DurtDigglerohh yeah03:17
DurtDigglerthats why I didn't see that option03:17
DurtDigglerI have mythdora03:17
SHADOW__X:)03:17
DurtDigglerthey werent too big on the web design part of this it seems03:18
SHADOW__Xi feel like it is quite functional03:18
SHADOW__X:_)03:18
SHADOW__X:)03:18
hadsI'm sure patches would be welcome.03:18
DurtDiggleroh yeah it's functional for sure03:19
DurtDigglerI think I might have to make a really nice skin for this thing03:19
DurtDigglerwould my recordings come out ok if my storage is a cifs mount from my file server03:22
SHADOW__Xshould be asong as its auto mounted and speed is good03:22
DurtDiggleryeah Im figuring my network speed is much faster than the bitrate03:23
tgm4883_laptopwith a PVR 250, as long as you got at least wireless G you should be fine03:24
DurtDigglerhaha wireless03:24
DurtDiggleris that saying something bad about pvr 250?03:25
tgm4883_laptopnope03:26
tgm4883_laptopi'm just giving the minimum specs03:26
tgm4883_laptopwell03:26
tgm4883_laptopthe recommended specs03:26
tgm4883_laptopsince it's SD not HD03:26
tgm4883_laptopHD you need to be wired03:26
DurtDiggleroh well yeah03:27
DurtDigglerI jsut read a whole lot about the cards and it seemed that most poeple go with the pvr 25003:27
tgm4883_laptopwhats the 250 have that the 150 doesn't?03:27
tgm4883_laptopI have a 150 and a 50003:27
DurtDiggleryeah I want a 50003:27
hadsYeah, I'd say the 150 is probably most common.03:27
DurtDigglerbut it's so hard to find03:28
DurtDiggleroh yeah I think 150 and 250 were pretty close03:28
DurtDigglerI forgot what was different03:28
hadsThey 250 and 150 do the same thing, I think the 150 is newer.03:28
hads(and still old now)03:28
DurtDigglerI read that the quality is slightly better with the 25003:28
tgm4883_laptopiirc they are end of life now03:28
hadsYup03:28
DurtDigglerthe 500 looked really nice03:29
DurtDiggleras long as you don't have the samsung tuner I guess03:29
DurtDigglertype b or something like that03:29
tgm4883_laptophonestly i'd prefer if the digital mandate was sooner03:30
DurtDigglerhah yeah03:30
tgm4883_laptopthe pvr cards are nice, but once you go digital there is no comparison03:31
DurtDigglerwahts your opinion on hardware encoding03:32
DurtDigglerdoes it really take a lot of cpu without it03:32
tgm4883_laptopits a must.  Thats why the PVR cards are so popular03:32
DurtDigglerah03:32
DurtDigglerthats what I figured03:33
tgm4883_laptopsoftware encoders (besides the higher cpu) have other issues as well03:33
DurtDigglerI felt like I needed a card that does it's own encoding, but wasnt sure how important it was03:33
tgm4883_laptopit's pretty important, although that will confuse people when things are digital03:34
DurtDigglerprobably so much easier with digital03:34
tgm4883_laptopwell it's not necessary with digital03:34
DurtDigglerthers no converting though right03:35
tgm4883_laptopit comes pre-encoded03:35
hadsYou receive it and put it on the disk. That's it.03:35
DurtDigglernice thats what I figured03:36
DurtDigglerless heat less power consumption03:36
DurtDigglerfor some reason after I changed my card type my upcoming recordings page is empty03:39
tgm4883_laptopDurtDiggler, did you also do steps 3 and 4?03:39
DurtDiggleroh oops I didn't follow through it03:40
tgm4883_laptopthats probably it03:40
tgm4883_laptopit's not connected to the lineup anymore03:40
tgm4883_laptopyou should only need to do step 403:40
DurtDiggleroh wait03:40
DurtDigglerthere was nothing else to do03:40
gndprxEvening.  I am going through an install from 8.04.1 Live CD.  It goes through the motions to install and then returns to the LiveCD X desktop and never launches a Myth Setup.  Did I miss something?03:41
gndprxIf I remove the CD and reboot, it boots to a terminal login rather than into ubuntu03:42
tgm4883_laptopgndprx, let me run through a quick install03:44
gndprxthx03:45
DurtDigglerI thought it's supposed to check for duplicates03:47
DurtDigglerit seems it keeps trying to record the same show over if it shows for a second time03:47
tgm4883_laptopgndprx, did you boot into the live environment or just the installer?03:52
gndprxI've tried both ways and both end with the same result03:53
gndprxIf I boot directly to the installer, it installs and then drops me to the live cd desktop03:53
gndprxif I go through the live environment, it just returns me to the same after the install03:54
gndprxI just did a sudo startx from the terminal, went to the mythbuntu control center and it won't let me launch mythtv setup03:55
gndprxinteresting.  hardly anything loaded when I launched X.  No network or anything03:56
tgm4883_laptopdid you verify your cd burn?03:57
gndprxyes03:57
gndprxactually03:58
gndprxI verified the iso03:58
gndprxdidn't verify the burn03:58
gndprxlet me do that now03:58
tgm4883_laptopgndprx, is it the i386 or amd64 disk?04:04
gndprxi38604:04
tgm4883_laptopok04:04
tgm4883_laptopdid that cd check out?04:04
tgm4883_laptopi just did a virtualbox install here just fine04:05
gndprxI can run it against the iso and get a hash. How do I check the burn?04:05
gndprxI'm assuming your talking about md5sum04:05
tgm4883_laptopyea04:06
DurtDigglerwhat is supposed to happen when there is a conflict04:07
DurtDigglerdoes it not record any of them?04:07
tgm4883_laptopgndprx, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM#MD5SUM%20on%20CD04:07
tgm4883_laptopDurtDiggler, it will record which ever one has a higher priority04:08
DurtDiggleroh ok04:08
tgm4883_laptopDurtDiggler, i'm not sure what happens if they have the same priority04:08
DurtDigglerit seems I had 2 and they jsut disapeared04:08
gndprxjust waiting for it to finish04:11
gndprxran md5sum per that page and it returned nothing.  Just back to a prompt04:12
gndprxso looks like it's good04:13
tgm4883_laptophmm04:13
tgm4883_laptopwell maybe not04:13
gndprxshould it return any values?04:14
tgm4883_laptopyea it should return ok04:14
tgm4883_laptoplet me check something04:14
tgm4883_laptopheh04:17
tgm4883_laptopgndprx, boot the live cd, there should be a verify cd on the boot menu04:18
gndprxk04:18
gndprxCheck CD for Defects - and it's running now04:19
gndprxCheck finished, no errors found04:21
tgm4883_laptophmm04:22
gndprxIs there a benefit to installing the mythbuntu cd over installing Heron and then putting myth over top of it?04:24
gndprxI do know that Heron will install04:25
tgm4883_laptopgndprx, well you wouldn't have the extra gnome stuff installed04:26
tgm4883_laptopalthough you could do a number of things04:26
tgm4883_laptopif you are not worried about the disk space, do it that way04:26
tgm4883_laptopif you are, then install either xubuntu (since we use the xfce desktop) or install the command line system and apt-get install mythbuntu-desktop04:27
tgm4883_laptopor you could try the alternate cd04:27
gndprxWhat is the alternate cd anyway?04:27
tgm4883_laptopnon live cd install04:27
gndprxmaybe I'll give that a try before I do anything else04:28
tgm4883_laptopit usually is used to for people who have graphical issues when installing, but may fix your problem04:28
gndprxsetup to download now and I'll give that a try later or tomorrow.  If not, I'll drop back by again04:29
gndprxthanks for your help so far04:29
gndprxback tomorrow...thx04:30
doje_hi, I'm having trouble getting my ATI remote working. I've tried both the kernel and userspace drivers04:34
doje_it shows up in lsusb and lsmod, but irw gives no output.  what am I missing ?04:36
DurtDigglerhey it's recording now :)04:37
zabbadappdoje_: is lirc configured correct?04:41
doje_zabbadapp: I configured it from the control center.  it's running and the various files look ok from I can tell04:43
zabbadappdo you have the ati listed when you do "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" .. i don't use an ati (radio controlled, right?) remote, so i'm not sure it should show up there04:46
doje_zabbadapp: no, it's not listed there04:47
doje_zabbadapp: I see it in lsusb though04:47
zabbadappIF it had been listed there, I would have asked you to check /etc/lirc/hardware.conf to see if the event<number> matched between the two ... but i don't know if lirc work like that for that remote04:49
doje_zabbadapp: I've had it working with lirc before04:50
cr3olCan someone help me with a flash problem? I want to be able to play flash from watchtvsitcoms.com via mythtv. I can watch them via firefox. any ideas?04:51
tgm4883_laptopcr3ol, you could initiate a download to your mythvideo directory via wget then watch it with mythvideo04:53
tgm4883_laptopor you could possibly write a parser for mythstream04:53
tgm4883_laptopthats how i watched the nba vegas summer league games, by wgetting the stream04:54
cr3olsounds like I need to get a little dirty. I am fairly noob to this. could you provide an example... I can probably go from there.04:55
tgm4883_laptopwell the way i did it was I used firefox and looked at the page info which showed me the media stream (in this case, it was the one ending in .asx)04:56
tgm4883_laptopthen I just used wget to start grabbing that stream and downloaded it to my mythvideo directory04:56
tgm4883_laptopthen used mythvideo start it and as long as I didn't get ahead of the download I was fine04:57
tgm4883_laptopA better solution would be to write a parser and not bother with the wget part, but you have to write the code for that ;)04:57
tgm4883_laptopactually i take that back04:58
tgm4883_laptopi used mimms04:58
tgm4883_laptopwhich is a stream downloader04:58
tgm4883_laptopnot wget04:58
tgm4883_laptopsorry about that04:58
tgm4883_laptopthis is the command I used from my mythvideo directory04:58
tgm4883_laptopmimms http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia-live/nba/9929/500_nba-league_pass_phoenix_051201.asx BasketballSat.asx04:58
cr3olim looking all this up while you are typing04:58
cr3olcool04:58
cr3olI try that04:59
tgm4883_laptopthat downloaded to a file called BasketballSat.asx04:59
tgm4883_laptopthen just use mythvideo04:59
zabbadappdoje_: what does you /etc/lirc/hardware.conf say then? does it have reasonable info?05:00
cr3olthanks tgm Im trying it now05:01
doje_zabbadapp: mods: lirc_dev lirc_atiusb (both are loaded), dev=/dev/lirc0 (exists)05:01
doje_zabbadapp: START_LIRCMD is commented - not sure what is05:02
zabbadapplike that for me too05:03
zabbadappis REMOTE_LIRCD_CONF="/etc/lirc/lircd.conf" correct? was wrong for me anyway before I edited it05:04
zabbadappit used to point to a relative path that would be wrong from lircs point of view upon start (LIRCD_CONF="hauppauge/lircd.conf.hauppauge_novat500" ... nothing there)05:05
doje_zabbadapp: I was just noticing that - it's a relative path atiusb/lircd.conf.atiusb - should be /usr/share/lirc... ?05:06
zabbadappi pointed it to the only file i had, which was /etc/lirc/lircd.conf ... it has the key sequences mapped to button name for the remote05:07
doje_zabbadapp: i have that file as well - points to the other - i'll try that05:10
doje_zabbadapp: I pulled a lircd.conf from my old setup and that's working - at least with irw05:15
zabbadappthen you're ok05:16
doje_zabbadapp: it's not controlling myth yet, but I should be able to fix that.05:18
doje_zabbadapp: Thanks for your help :-)05:18
zabbadappthat's the lircrc for myth that's wrong i guess .. bring it out from your old sys also :)05:21
doje_zabbadapp: actually, I think my button names were different so they aren't binding05:21
mnishizawaanyone else have a problem playing dvds on a clean install of mythbuntu?05:27
mnishizawais there something extra that needs to be done?05:27
DurtDigglerfor some reason my recordings have just a buzzing noise for their audio05:27
DurtDigglerwhy would that be happening05:28
DurtDigglerpicture looks good, but the sound is like a pizo buzzer going non stop05:29
tgm4883_laptopmnishizawa, you need to install the extra codecs in mythbuntu-control-centre05:30
tgm4883_laptoplibdvdcss2 to be exact05:30
DurtDiggleroh it only happened on my first recording05:30
DurtDigglerI wonder if it's the channel05:31
mnishizawaI think I've done that, but I'll check05:31
mnishizawatgm4883_laptop, good call05:33
mnishizawaany reason I wouldn't be able to download them?05:33
mnishizawaI get 404 errors... so whatever repo it's using, they are missing05:34
mnishizawaI assume I should be able to get them with synaptic05:34
tgm4883_laptopwhat repo is it trying to use?05:34
mnishizawapackages.medibuntu.org05:35
mnishizawaheh... someone must have restarted the server :)05:38
tgm4883_laptopmnishizawa, working now?05:39
DurtDigglerwhy would the sound just cut out in the middle of a recording05:40
mnishizawalibdvdcss2 successfully installed... going to try to do the w32codecs05:41
mnishizawathat one still fails05:41
DurtDigglerthis sucks05:42
hadsShame05:42
DurtDigglerthis thing has audio problems05:43
mnishizawaDurtDiggler, I have noticed similar issues with other videos... non-myth related05:43
DurtDigglerwhat videos05:43
mnishizawastuff I shot on a camera phone05:44
mnishizawabuzzing and sparse audio05:44
DurtDigglerI've only recorded 2 so far and the fist one only has a noise through the entire thing and the second has audio for half of it and nothing for the rest05:44
mnishizawaso you get audio sometimes?05:44
DurtDigglerso far05:44
DurtDigglerpretty much get exactly what I said05:45
mnishizawatgm4883_laptop, dude, do you run that repo... because all of the sudden I could download the required codecs05:45
tgm4883_laptopmnishizawa, yea it seems to be having some intermintent problems05:45
DurtDigglertgm4883_laptop: do you know why my audio is not working right05:46
mnishizawaDurtDiggler, it's possible your audio issues are more to do with the sound system itself rather than myth05:46
cr3ol@tgm well it does not like it. I was reading that because it is embeded in flash that it cannot be downloaded. If anyone else knows how to do this let me know! thanks  I want to be able to play flash from watchtvsitcoms.com via mythtv. I can watch them via firefox. any ideas?05:46
DurtDigglermnishizawa: no it's the recording05:46
DurtDigglernot the computer05:46
hads!logs05:46
ZinnMythTV logs are stored in /var/log/mythtv/05:46
tgm4883_laptopDurtDiggler, no, although it could be a certain audio issue05:50
tgm4883_laptoptry starting up live tv, let me know if you have the buzzing sound05:50
tgm4883_laptopyou need the buzzing sound to test this05:50
DurtDigglerwell I don't have a front end yet05:51
tgm4883_laptopah05:51
DurtDigglerI can't watch live tv05:51
tgm4883_laptopwell you will need one ;)05:51
DurtDigglerIll get one once the backend starts working05:51
DurtDigglerso far these recordings arent cutting it for me05:51
tgm4883_laptopbasically switch the audio input off and back on again05:52
tgm4883_laptopusing05:52
tgm4883_laptopv4l2-ctl -d 0 --set-audio-input=005:52
tgm4883_laptopwhile you have the buzzing sound on live tv05:52
DurtDigglerhm05:52
DurtDigglerwell one of them had the buzzing sound05:52
hadsYou need a frontend.05:53
DurtDigglerthe other sounded fine for the first half then the sound just shut off for the rest05:53
DurtDigglerwhy would I need a front end to get my recordings to have decent audio05:53
hadsTo help you get recordings with decent audio.05:54
DurtDiggleroh well yeah05:54
DurtDigglerI'll have to go throw together another computer05:54
DurtDigglerjust for testing05:54
hadsFor starters that's how myth is designed to work so if you've got a problem then you'll want to be using it as designed so people can help you.05:55
DurtDigglerit should still record the same05:55
DurtDigglerI'll get the front end so I can troubleshoot it05:56
hadsOtherwise you may be stuck on your own sorting it out.05:56
mnishizawatgm4883_laptop, do I need to restart my session after installing those codecs?06:02
mnishizawastill can't play dvds06:02
mnishizawaI got the dvd to play in mplayer though06:03
DurtDigglerwould you have a need for a capture card on a front end06:04
mnishizawaI think the capture card is only required on the back end06:06
DurtDiggleryeah my third recording sounds like crap too06:16
DurtDigglermore of a chirping sound06:16
DurtDigglerwell the same buz just not solid06:16
mnishizawaanyone know if installing the suggested updates will break myth?06:17
DurtDigglerwould I be ok running a mythbuntu front end and a mythdora backend06:20
tgm4883_laptopDurtDiggler, in theory, yea06:21
DurtDigglerok cause I only have a CD player for this thing06:22
DurtDigglerused up all my DVD drives06:22
mnishizawain theory, you could use the live cd as a front-end temporarily, right?06:22
mnishizawaI have to say, even with these troubles, mythbuntu is a lot easier to install than LMCE06:23
tgm4883_laptopdon't get me started on LMCE ;)06:24
mnishizawarestart worked... dvds now playing :D06:27
mnishizawaimport failed though... "Cannot connect to your Myth Transcoding daemon..."06:28
tgm4883_laptopmnishizawa, try starting mtd from a command line06:33
mnishizawaok... to get the entire dvd(menus, special features, etc) do you just select everything?06:35
tgm4883_laptopthat seems logical, haven't tried that though06:35
tgm4883_laptopi usually just do the movie06:36
mnishizawak... I'll keep it simple for now :)06:36
mnishizawaI says no jobs06:36
mnishizawait*06:36
tgm4883_laptoperrors?06:37
mnishizawaI think it's a permission issue tho06:37
mnishizawaI started mtd as me, instead of mythtv, I made the output directory owned by mythtv06:37
mnishizawacool, that was the problem... thanks for the help tgm4883_laptop06:55
tgm4883_laptopnp06:56
sebrocksigh... anyone else experiencing sound issues on latest kernel?09:09
hadsPVR150?09:11
sebrockyup PVR-50009:24
sebrockbut its the same as two 150...09:24
sebrockhads^^09:24
hads2.6.24 has the tinny audio problem back agian.09:24
hadsOccasionally09:24
sebrockStrange is that one of the tuners works fine09:25
sebrock*sort of*09:25
sebrocka few channles have crap sound09:25
sebrockand then the other tuner no sound at all09:25
DapOrpanyone here use a twinhan 102g card?09:25
sebrockwhat is the "tinny" problem hads?09:25
DapOrpi had this working about a year ago, but now I cannot for the life of me remember how I got it working.09:26
hadshttp://www.google.co.nz/search?q=ivtv+tinny+audio09:26
DapOrpdvb_bt8xx: unable to determine DMA core of card 0, dvb_bt8xx: if you have the ALSA bt87x audio driver installed, try removing it. dvb-bt8xx: probe of dvb0 failed with error -14 <- don't know if this is what's fouling it up but i have no /dev/dvb :(09:26
sebrocklol, as soon as I fix something, something else gets broken...09:33
sebrockHardy has sucked so far...09:34
hadsWorks well for me.09:34
sebrockyou have pvr-500/1500?09:50
sebrockyou have pvr-500/150?09:50
sebrockwhy is the vnc so extremely slow in 8.04.1? Was way faster in 7.10. And this is on the desktop. Not inside mythfrontend with any OpenGL stuff10:49
spantherhello there :) i've installed mythbuntu theme from the repositorys and i saw that it looks really good :) similiar with XP Zune theme hehe. is there a way to download the complete theme to save it for later use ?11:19
dschanHi everybody11:40
jphillipspanther not sure what you are getting at, but if you installed the theme, its on your box13:49
spantherjphillip, well i can give you a screenshot if you like :)13:51
dschanhi everybody13:52
dschananybody here who can give me advice on firmware update?13:53
spantherjphillip, its the mythbuntu theme http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/6363/bildschirmfotobx2.png13:55
jphillipdschan firmware update of what?13:58
dschanhey jphii! thak you13:59
dschanfor novt-t pci card13:59
gndprxGood morning.  Did an install of 8.04.1 and after troubles last night am finally able to boot to the xfce desktop but myth does not seem to be configured.  How can I kick off the back end setup?14:00
dschanbut ... jack@mediencenter:/lib/firmware$ dmesg | grep dvb14:00
dschan[   42.386490] saa7146: register extension 'budget_ci dvb'.14:00
dschan[   42.421756] input: Budget-CI dvb ir receiver saa7146 (0) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.4/0000:03:06.0/input/input514:00
dschan[  112.085742] tda1004x: waiting for firmware upload (dvb-fe-tda10045.fw)...14:00
gndprxwhen I try, it just complains about database connection problems14:00
dschangndprx ... had that too. have a crappy workaround and would be glad about help, too14:01
gndprxThat would be wonderful.  It's not been going well so far14:01
jphillipare you entering the correct password when it asks you for it?14:01
gndprxI'm entering the random generated password that it provided me during the install14:02
dschanyes, i found out that mysql does not even have a mythtv-user... using as root at th mom14:02
gndprxI've tried to run some of the mysql commands but get access denied even as root14:03
jphillipits been a while since I did a fresh install but I recall that mysql will ask you if you want to set a root password, then mythtv-database will ask you for that root password and generat you a mythtv mysql user which is the random password14:03
dschan...did all that but somehow the mythtv-user dies not exist14:03
gndprxlet me try with root in the setup and see what happens14:03
jphilliptry to `mysql -uroot -p mythconverg`14:04
jphillipor leave out the p if you didn't set a root password14:04
gndprxunknown database mythconverg14:05
dschansudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-common    helps me, too14:05
gndprxhrmm, how can I get a list of mysql databases configured?  It looks like it may not have installed the myth database14:06
gndprxI'm used to having the mysql admin tools rather than command line14:06
dschansorry, dunno. jphillip?14:07
gndprxnm, google is good14:08
jphilliplooks like your mythtv db isn't there14:08
gndprxthe only db installed is the information_schema14:08
gndprxno myth database listed14:08
jphillipsudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database14:08
gndprxfor some reason it didn't install with the mythbuntu installation14:08
gndprxtrying that now14:08
jphillipgndprx it prob asked you for the root password and you gave it the wrong one14:08
dschanme, too14:08
jphillipalso if you want a mysql tool sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin14:09
gndprxhrmm, might have to reset the root password.  Doesn't like anything I give it at the moment14:10
dschanhow do i access it? only knwo the tool from ancient windows-xampp times14:10
gndprxahh, got it.  Now mythconverg is there14:12
dschanhow do you log into phpmyadmin?14:13
dschanaddress?14:13
jphilliphttp://IP_of_your_box/phpmyadmin14:14
dschanthx14:15
gndprxahh, now this looks more familiar when running the backend setup14:15
gndprxthanks!14:16
gndprxnot happy about it running as root, but it will work for now14:16
dschansame for me. I'll try to create a mythtv-user.14:16
jphillipgndprx you don't run as root, it just needs the mysql root to make the db/user14:17
jphillipin mythtv-setup you should be using the mythtv user with the generated password14:17
gndprxahh, ok14:17
dschanjphillip ... it does not for me, though. where can i find the mysql users?14:19
jphillipdschan did you give mythtv-database the root password so it could create it?14:22
jphillipalso do you have a mythconverg database now?14:22
dschanjack@mediencenter:/$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database14:26
dschanFailed to execute SQL: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON mythconverg.* TO root@localhost IDENTIFIED BY '***SECRET***'\nAccess denied for user 'root'@'%' to database 'mythconverg' at -e line 8, <> line 1.14:26
dschanyes, have a mythconverg database, yes, typed in correct root-passwd14:27
jphillipyou didn't give it the right root password then14:27
jphillipthis is your mysql root password14:27
dschanok, i'll try again14:27
jphillipnot your sudo or root user password14:27
jphillipits empty by default unless you chose one while setting up mysql14:27
dschan!! I have another clue...14:28
ZinnSorry I don't know about ! I have another clue...14:28
jphillipheh14:28
dschanpassword semmed to be ok, but i told it thet the server runs at 192.168.0.103 (which should be correct), THEN it shows error, otherwise, with localhost, it seems to work...14:29
gndprxOne other quick question.  I have an external 500Gb that it saw during the initial setup, but now that I'm in Xfce it's nowhere to be found14:29
jphillipya, the root user is @loclhost14:30
gndprxdo I have to do something different to mount it on startup?14:30
jphillipgndprx I'd mount it in fstab14:30
gndprxthe only trick is that it's an ntfs drive that I can't format until I get all of the data off of it14:30
gndprxit has all of my old recordings from sagetv14:30
jphillipgo search the forums for how to mount an ntfs usb drive, or google14:31
gndprxok, just didn't know if there was a quick answer14:31
gndprxI'll do and thanks14:31
dschanor  try sudo thunar  and click on the drive if shown there14:31
jphillipI Could tell you how to do something not ntfs :)14:31

dschanHi! Can anyone help me with acpi? I found a vdr-thread that states that my mboard supports that; now i am trying to follow this: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/ACPI_Wakeup#Introduction --- however, i have probs there (FATAL: Module rtc_cmos not found. )15:52
buntumythhi guys , I had sound and all working, but audio was scratchy so I started looking into that, after some checking I lost audio. I can hear it in other apps (tvtime. kdetv... they both have delay of course) but nothing in mythtv (neither LiveTV or Videos that were recorded with sound). I have all the mixer settings set correctly, according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV_Dapper_Backend_17:11
buntumythany no-audio tips17:57
gndprxafternoon all.  Does mythfilldatabase have to run after every configuration change and if so is there a way to stop the lengthy schedules direct download every time?19:11
sebrockisnt video supposed to be shown in upper right corner on EPG? It simply says "Not Recording" here, and audio stutters?19:19
zabbadappgndprx: no, you can skip mythfill ... it's just needed if you added new program sources and things like that ... i never run it after myth-setup except for the very first time after a complete install19:23
gndprxgood deal.  Thank you.19:23
CRXLPYok progress (of sorts)  I started with scratchy audio, I worked on that and then had no audio. I got audio back but it was very scratchy in only the left or right channel but fine in the other. Now I have clear audio in the left channel and no audio in the right. I have searched and searched, but most of the solutions are for the intel HDA soundchip. I am using a AGOGO (Maestro 1) with the snd_es1968 driver. I have blacklisted snd_19:37
CRXLPYok I just rebooted, I have sound in both sides, but it is scratchy again....grrrrrr19:41
sebrockisnt video supposed to be shown in upper right corner on EPG? It simply says "Not Recording" here, and audio stutters? (bump)20:22
=== ron is now known as zippytech
zippytechhow can i increase the audio output on my sb live card20:54
jphillipzippytech alsamgr20:59
jphillipthere is also an option under setup>general where you can bump it21:00
sebrocksigh21:00
jphillipI'm not in front of mythy now though so I can't tell you exactly where, 3rd page comes to mind21:00
zippytechfull blast21:00
sebrockzippytech, you have video in your EPG?21:00
sebrocka scaled version in the upper right corner?21:00
zippytech?21:02
CRXLPYok w00t!!! just got my pvr-150 delivered and stuck it in the box. now I have a wintv tuner card and a pvr-150. but.....  now I am back to one channel audio. only the right spkr works. I have rebooted and no change21:47
sebrockCRXLPY, which kernel_21:49
CRXLPYI have it updated, lemme look21:50
CRXLPY2.6.24-19 generic21:50
sebrockyup, broken IVTV driver21:51
CRXLPYok is there a fix?21:51
sebrockwelcome to the long line of pvr150 users with no/bad audio21:51
sebrockrevert your kernel21:52
CRXLPYI had the same issue b4 I installed the pvr-150, only the hauppage tuner card. I got things happy by blacklisting the ac97 codec and rebooting a couple times. but that dont werk now. what ver kernel should I go back to?21:53
jphillipI'm not sure thats right21:56
jphillipI have 2.6.24-19-generic here, and my pvr-150 audio is fine21:56
CRXLPYok glad you said that, I was just about to mess up21:57
sebrockjphillip, some have it some dont21:58
jphilliphave you verified outside of myth that the sytems audio works fine?21:58
CRXLPYthe audio in the spkr that has sound often sounds like a movie projector that has had the film jump the teeth (like every thing is gargling) it is echoing too21:58
sebrockI got it when upgrading my kernel21:58
sebrockbut your problem might be alsa then21:59
CRXLPY jphillip yes it sounds fine in tvtime and kdetv (with the delay cuz they use the line in)21:59
sebrockwell then you are not one of us22:00
jphillipCRXLPY 2 things I'd try, 1. mess with the audio settings in myth, setup>general> 3rd page I think22:01
jphillip2. record something, and then open it in mplayer or vlc, see if the audio is ok22:01
jphillipwill at least point you at whats wrong22:02
CRXLPYso how do I load a nuv file in those players?22:03
jphillippvr-150 should give you mpeg files22:06
CRXLPYok I cant find this, how do I tell mythtv to record a file while I am watching live tv?  or do I need to set a scheduled record :(22:11
CRXLPYI have tried "r" but that just starts recording, then cancels the recording when I hit is again22:12
CRXLPYright channel only in mplayer too jphillip22:16
CRXLPYI am installing the ivtv-utils pkg, some of the things I have seen use v4l2-ctl which I think is in that22:20
CRXLPYbefore I try that tho   I am gonna un-blacklist the ac97-codec22:23
CRXLPYtgm4883_laptop any input on why one channel of audio would go away after adding a pvr-150 to a system that already had a tuner card?22:26
tgm4883_laptopwheres the channel from?22:26
CRXLPYlivetv22:27
CRXLPYis that what you meant?  recordings miss it too22:27
tgm4883_laptopno, is it analog cable?22:27
tgm4883_laptopwhats the other tuner?22:27
CRXLPYyes it ia a wintv 44327  analong tuner22:29
tgm4883_laptopdoes that channel have audio on either tuner or on neither tuner?22:29
rhpot1991I thought you said pvr15022:29
CRXLPYI just rebooted and now the dead chennel has swapped sides22:29
CRXLPYrhpot1991 I did22:29
CRXLPYthat is the 2nd card22:30
rhpot1991ah other tuner22:30
* rhpot1991 needs to learn to read22:30
CRXLPYI just loaded tvtime and both sides are fine through it22:30
tgm4883_laptopCRXLPY, what do the logs say?22:31
buntumythhttp://pastebin.com/d699d269322:35
buntumyththere is the last chunk of mythbackend.log tgm4883_laptop22:36
tgm4883_laptopbuntumyth, hmm, doesn't say anything about the audio, but I do notice two things22:38
tgm4883_laptopthe -ps -ts thing22:38
tgm4883_laptopand setting your video bitrate to 590000022:38
CRXLPYhmmm frontend log says unable to open mixer: ALSA:default22:38
tgm4883_laptopstrange22:38
tgm4883_laptopit plays audio though?22:38
CRXLPYthrough on spkr22:39
CRXLPYone spkr22:39
tgm4883_laptopso it's mono22:40
tgm4883_laptopand thats a mythtv thing?  as other players are stereo?22:40
CRXLPYyes other players use bothe spkrs22:40
tgm4883_laptopjust out of curiousity, what happens if you try and play the recording from that channel that doesn't have audio in mythtv, what happens if you play it outside of mythtv?22:40
CRXLPYrecordings from mythtv played in mplayer are one spkr only22:41
tgm4883_laptopCRXLPY, is there a setting for that either in recording profiles or mythtv setup for setting the tuner to stereo?22:43
tgm4883_laptopi'm not at home, or i'd check22:43
CRXLPYyes and it is set to stereo22:43
vbman11_Hi I'm having trouble setting up sound on my saa7134 card with mythtv, it works perfectly with tvtime22:44
CRXLPYinteresting thing. I changed mixer from ALSA:default to /dev/mixer  and the audio in the spkr that works has less scratch in it22:44
CRXLPYbut I still have the error about it not opening, let me pastebin that22:46
rhpot1991tuner drivers it sounds like22:46
buntumythhttp://pastebin.com/d4773dedf22:47
CRXLPYtgm4883_laptop^^22:47
CRXLPYwho made your saa7134 card vbman11_?22:48
tgm4883_laptopCRXLPY, looks like it doesn't like /dev/mixer22:48
CRXLPYtgm4883_laptop at the top of that you can see what it said when I had it set to ALSA:default tgm4883_laptop22:49
CRXLPYI also was trying /dev/dsp as the output instead of ALSA:default at that point but got the same results22:50
tgm4883_laptopI think trying to fix that is putting the horse before the cart.  The recordings themselves are only mono right?22:50
tgm4883_laptopand22:51
tgm4883_laptop<tgm4883_laptop> just out of curiousity, what happens if you try and play the recording from that channel that doesn't have audio in mythtv, what happens if you play it outside of mythtv?22:51
tgm4883_laptop<CRXLPY> recordings from mythtv played in mplayer are one spkr only22:51
CRXLPYyes22:51
tgm4883_laptop^^ is that true even for the channel that have no audio at all in mythtv?22:51
vbman11_CRXLPY: just a sec22:54
CRXLPYumm not sure what you mean...   I record livetv (only left spkr) I exit myth and play recording in mplayer and only left spkr has sound22:54
vbman11_CRXLPY: Sabrent22:54
vbman11_CRXLPY: it was like $16 off newegg22:55
vbman11_CRXLPY: mythtv just isn't reading the sound, I've also read that I need to patch mythtv to unmute my card?22:56
CRXLPYwhat cpu are you gonna use that on vbman11_22:56
vbman11_CRXLPY: processor? 32bit22:57
tgm4883_laptopCRXLPY, you said that you have 1 channel with no audio right?22:57
CRXLPYtgm4883_laptop yes only left spkr  (if I reboot it may swap sides, but still only one spkr)22:58
CRXLPYvbman11_ what speed?22:58
tgm4883_laptopok, so all channels have audio in at least one speaker?22:58
vbman11_500 megahertz x222:59
CRXLPYby channel do you mean tv channels? or input channels?22:59
vbman11_really old server22:59
tgm4883_laptopCRXLPY, tv channels23:00
CRXLPYewwww vbman11_ I hope you dont plan to record23:00
vbman11_CRXLPY: just messing arround with it23:00
tgm4883_laptopvbman11_, AFAIK, there is no 500 megahertz X223:00
tgm4883_laptoplink?23:01
rhpot1991_phone!status23:01
ZinnI am alive.23:01
vbman11_two intel pentium 3's23:01
CRXLPYtgm4883_laptop same on all channels I just when too23:01
tgm4883_laptopvbman11_, oh, see when you say x2, people tend to think of an AMD processor23:01
vbman11_ohh23:02
CRXLPYthats what I thought23:02
CRXLPYsince I am working on my system I had not gotten to noting a 500x2 did not exist23:02
tgm4883_laptopCRXLPY, fix the other 2 issues on your backend, see if it's somehow related to your current issue23:03
CRXLPYyeah I was thinking that, I hope it is a simple perm issue, although it saying /dev/mixer does not exist is troubling23:04
CRXLPYhmm /dev/mixer is there and perms are good23:05
vbman11_tgm4883_laptop: any idea on how to get my sound to work, btw I can hear the sound through the speakers on my server23:06
CRXLPYI am fighting the same demon now vbman11_23:07
vbman11_CRXLPY: ahh, I see23:07
vbman11_CRXLPY: what card23:08
tgm4883_laptopCRXLNAWAY, actually I was talking about this error23:08
tgm4883_laptop#23:08
tgm4883_laptopMPEGRec(/dev/video1) Warning: Stream type 'MPEG-2 TS'23:08
tgm4883_laptop#23:08
tgm4883_laptop                        is not supported by ivtv driver, using 'MPEG-2 PS' instead.23:08
CRXLPYok23:08
tgm4883_laptopand23:08
tgm4883_laptopMPEGRec(/dev/video1) Error: Could not set Video Peak Bitrate to 590000023:08
tgm4883_laptopand NVR(/dev/video0) Error: Can't open vbi device: '/dev/vbi'23:09
CRXLPYyeah it has never opened /dev/vbi even b4 the 150 was added,  since I dont care about cc I just ignored that. I had sound going while that error was going on23:11
tgm4883_laptopgotta reboot23:11
vbman11_guys! I got mine to kinda work!23:13
CRXLPYu r ahead of me then vbman11_23:15
vbman11_I just opened up tvtime on the server and I got sound!23:15
vbman11_It's really quiet though23:16
vbman11_I have everything turned up too23:17
buntumythtgm4883_laptop: this is with bitrate=11000 and max bitrate=22000   I havent found where it is looking for /dev/vbi    /dev/vbi0 is what is in the settings23:20
buntumythhttp://pastebin.com/d12d66b5a23:20
vbman11_tgm4883_laptop: I kinda got mine to work23:22
buntumythtgm4883_laptop: this is my backend log from the same run http://pastebin.com/m4cb8ef23:24
CRXLPYvbman11_ you arent the only one with this card that has low audio  http://forum.byopvr.com/dvr/index.php/topic,1708.0.html23:27
CRXLPYI am just going to type none into the vbi blank23:30
tgm4883_laptopi'll think about it while I drive home23:31
vbman11_CRXLPY: but the card works perfectly in tvtime23:31
CRXLPYvbman11_ it has good audio level?23:32
vbman11_in tvtime yes23:32
vbman11_well mabey I should explain more23:33
CRXLPYalways23:33
vbman11_the audio input works23:33
vbman11_I can't really know if tvtime is actually reading the audio23:34
CRXLPYyou can, is the audio in sync?23:34
vbman11_on my card I use an external cord to connect the audio to the line in, and yes23:35
CRXLPYmy tuner card connects the same way23:36
CRXLPYbut the newly added pvr-150 does not23:36
CRXLPYbut in mythtv your audio going to the spkrs comes after the capture, not b4(which is where tvtime gets it)23:37
vbman11_is there a way to list the /dev/* audio files and what they are linked to (master, line-in, etc)23:37
CRXLPYyou would need to google that one, I dont know.   why would you need to?23:38
vbman11_to give mythtv the correct audio device23:38
vbman11_to read from23:38
CRXLPYhow many soundcards do you have installed?23:39
CRXLPYit is alsa that needs to know, not mythtv23:39
vbman11_one sound card23:40
CRXLPYenter "asoundconf list"23:40
CRXLPYyou should see a device for your sndcard and one for your tuner23:41
CRXLPYtic toc23:41
vbman11_riptide and saa7134\23:42
vbman11_and sry vnc is slow23:42
CRXLPYok "asoundconf set-default-card riptide"23:42
CRXLPYwhy are you on vnc? you at werk?23:43
vbman11_no just don't want to walk over to the tv and try to read the small text23:43
vbman11_and done23:43
CRXLPYyou should ssh23:44
vbman11_faster?23:44
vbman11_and how?23:44
CRXLPYno reason to have your whole screen going across the lan when you can see the tv, ssh will just open a shell  (are you in linux or windows on the system in front of you?)23:45
vbman11_linux of course23:46
vbman11_windows sucks23:46
CRXLPYI dont assume, I cant see through irc, if I guess wrong I would waste both our time23:46
vbman11_ohh23:46
vbman11_sry23:47
CRXLPYclose vnc for now, you can always reopen it23:47
vbman11_ok23:47
vbman11_done23:47
CRXLPYnow enter "ssh <ip of mythbox>23:48
CRXLPY"23:48
vbman11_cool23:48
CRXLPYif it fails you may need to include a username local to the mythbox23:49
vbman11_it worked23:49
CRXLPYbtw ssh (secure shell)  this is ssl encrypted23:49
vbman11_very nice23:49
vbman11_is there a way to edit the settings of the myth backend in terminal23:50
CRXLPYit can be set up to do Xforwarding  which lets you run x on mythbox but it uses the display on the local box23:50
CRXLPYyes there is23:51
vbman11_how23:51
CRXLPYwe havent gotten there23:51
vbman11_ohh23:51
CRXLPYif you are getting audio out of mythtv from your tuner card AND the audio is in sync then it has the right device23:53
vbman11_yeah23:53
CRXLPYso no settings to adjust23:53
vbman11_so how do I make it louder23:53
vbman11_do you know?23:54
CRXLPYthat card just has low audio.  did you read the link I posted a while ago?23:55
vbman11_well then how is it loud when I plug speakers into the audio out of the card23:56
vbman11_and also I can just barely hear a whisper with alot of noise23:57
CRXLPYgoogle "mythtv sabient sa1134" ............... that is pre-capture. you are hearing the volume of the soundcard, not the volume of the tuner card23:57
vbman11_over the network through myth23:58
CRXLPYthat is 3 separate issues23:58
vbman11_you got a point23:58
CRXLPYI have a sa1134 card and junked it23:59
vbman11_well I guess I'm off to google23:59
CRXLPYgoogle is your friend23:59
