linch7hi, I'm rel. new to ubuntu and just wrote a small howto for sync. my phone... where would be the best place to upload it? ubuntuforums.org?14:54
seisenwell you can add it to the forums and add it the wiki if you would like14:55
linch7hi seisen, what wiki? :-)14:55
seisenhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/14:56
linch7not sure where to start15:00
seisenon the wiki or the forums/15:00
linch7well, how do I post my howto on the wiki?15:01
seisenlogin in and create a new page15:02
linch4is it just me or the wiki pages are sometimes very slow to load?19:12
seisencould be a possibility19:13
linch4yes, anyway, I've never edited wiki pages before and I'm not sure what's the best thing to do... i found something that should get updated :-) what's best to do? edit the page and add my comments in it or is there something like a place where I could add my comments for the creator (or others) to review?19:15
seisenanybody can edit the page19:17
seisenyou don't have to add comments but if you want you can19:17
linch4ok, i guess best is to give it a go... ty19:18
seisenif you mess something up it can always be reverted back to the way it was19:18
seisenif you have any qeustions just feel free to ask19:18
linch4is it you find it useful to have a "discuss this page" link on a wiki page? I'm thinking, people who don't want (or don't know how) to edit the wiki could leave there comments there... is it a common and recommended thing to do?20:21
seisenI think it clogs the page up myself but that is my opinion20:26
Rocket2DMnyeah im not a big fan of the discussion stuf20:28
Rocket2DMnor the pages that are starting to list contributors20:28
linch4actually, i tried to add one but it doesn't seam to work the way i'd like / thought... you cannot simply add a comment; it seams you still need to edit the page the normal way.20:35
Rocket2DMnthats right20:42
linch4I think I found a bug in the wiki...20:45
linch4It says in a template :20:45
linch4Please sign your comments by pasting `@SIG@` after them.20:45
linch4when I save the page the `@SIG@` sign is no longer there and has been replaced by my username....20:45
linch4I don't think that's what we want. Anyone know how to make the `@SIG@` appear like this on the page? I tried with a backslash before it but didn't work.20:45
linch4another question: is there such thing as a test page? where I can test my syntax out? .... isn't it prone to abuse if anyone can create pages in the wiki?20:57
linch4can I just create any kine of page  (e.g. /test030483) and try my syntax there?20:57
Rocket2DMnwhat exactly are you trying to test21:00
Rocket2DMnif yo uare working on a wiki page you can click the Preview button21:00
Rocket2DMnwhat page are you looking at for that @SIG@21:01
seisenhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/WikiSandBox21:01
linch4yes, in the case of the `@SIG@` however it displayed `@SIG@` in the preview and then changed to myusername in the real page... the `@SIG@` was then gone for ever from the edit page.21:02
linch4ty for the sandbox :-)21:03
linch4the page I was edding is: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NokiaEvolutionBluetoothSyncing/PageDiscussion21:04
Rocket2DMnyeah i think thats how its supposed to work21:06
Rocket2DMnnote that wiki.ubuntu.com and help.ubuntu.com are using different versions of the wiki software, so some things are different, like linking21:07
linch4ok... will work around it by typing `@SIG@` with spaces like ` @ S I G @ `21:08
linch4ty21:08
