[14:54] hi, I'm rel. new to ubuntu and just wrote a small howto for sync. my phone... where would be the best place to upload it? ubuntuforums.org? [14:55] well you can add it to the forums and add it the wiki if you would like [14:55] hi seisen, what wiki? :-) [14:56] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ [15:00] not sure where to start [15:00] on the wiki or the forums/ [15:01] well, how do I post my howto on the wiki? [15:02] login in and create a new page [19:12] is it just me or the wiki pages are sometimes very slow to load? [19:13] could be a possibility [19:15] yes, anyway, I've never edited wiki pages before and I'm not sure what's the best thing to do... i found something that should get updated :-) what's best to do? edit the page and add my comments in it or is there something like a place where I could add my comments for the creator (or others) to review? [19:17] anybody can edit the page [19:17] you don't have to add comments but if you want you can [19:18] ok, i guess best is to give it a go... ty [19:18] if you mess something up it can always be reverted back to the way it was [19:18] if you have any qeustions just feel free to ask [20:21] is it you find it useful to have a "discuss this page" link on a wiki page? I'm thinking, people who don't want (or don't know how) to edit the wiki could leave there comments there... is it a common and recommended thing to do? [20:26] I think it clogs the page up myself but that is my opinion [20:28] yeah im not a big fan of the discussion stuf [20:28] or the pages that are starting to list contributors [20:35] actually, i tried to add one but it doesn't seam to work the way i'd like / thought... you cannot simply add a comment; it seams you still need to edit the page the normal way. [20:42] thats right [20:45] I think I found a bug in the wiki... [20:45] It says in a template : [20:45] Please sign your comments by pasting `@SIG@` after them. [20:45] when I save the page the `@SIG@` sign is no longer there and has been replaced by my username.... [20:45] I don't think that's what we want. Anyone know how to make the `@SIG@` appear like this on the page? I tried with a backslash before it but didn't work. [20:57] another question: is there such thing as a test page? where I can test my syntax out? .... isn't it prone to abuse if anyone can create pages in the wiki? [20:57] can I just create any kine of page (e.g. /test030483) and try my syntax there? [21:00] what exactly are you trying to test [21:00] if yo uare working on a wiki page you can click the Preview button [21:01] what page are you looking at for that @SIG@ [21:01] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WikiSandBox [21:02] yes, in the case of the `@SIG@` however it displayed `@SIG@` in the preview and then changed to myusername in the real page... the `@SIG@` was then gone for ever from the edit page. [21:03] ty for the sandbox :-) [21:04] the page I was edding is: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NokiaEvolutionBluetoothSyncing/PageDiscussion [21:06] yeah i think thats how its supposed to work [21:07] note that wiki.ubuntu.com and help.ubuntu.com are using different versions of the wiki software, so some things are different, like linking [21:08] ok... will work around it by typing `@SIG@` with spaces like ` @ S I G @ ` [21:08] ty === seisen is now known as __compiledkernel === __compiledkernel is now known as seisen
