RainCTSolarWar: commented00:02
SolarWarlogin at main page?00:03
SolarWarthanks RainCT  :)00:03
RainCTSolarWar: Ah, and the last paragraph in the -dbg package (the "This package contains..") is usually separated by a white line. Write a line like " ." (a space and a point) before it to achieve this.00:03
RainCTgeser: thanks00:06
Jazzvaany special bug states for sru? Confirmed and unassigned?00:06
* RainCT has only done 3 SRU's so far and doesn't know the bug states yet :P00:07
Jazzvathese are my 2nd and 3rd... or 3rd and 4th :)00:08
RainCTbtw, XHTML/CSS question: does someone know how to have, in the same line, some text aligned on the left and some on the right?00:09
SolarWarRainCT, where can i find out how to re-prioritize a package?00:10
RainCTI tried with  display: block; text-align: right;  for the right text, but it is displayed on the line below (even with margin and border = 0)00:10
JazzvaRainCT, I think "Confirmed" is right :)00:10
RainCTSolarWar: just add "Priority: extra" to the -dbg's stanza00:10
SolarWarokie thanks00:11
RainCTSolarWar: the Priority setting in the Source stanza applies to all binaries, but you can still override it on each of them (the same is valid for Section)00:11
Awsoonnhow might I run only the preproccessor on a c++ file?00:13
geserRainCT: have you tried two divs with float:left and float:right?00:14
geserAwsoonn: gcc -E00:15
Awsoonndomo~00:15
RainCTgeser: I don't like that ;P00:17
geserRainCT: alternatively you could abuse a <table>00:17
* RainCT dislikes that even more :P00:18
RainCTwell I guess I'll have to do with the floats then.. :(00:19
RainCT(it's to add a "show/hide help" link to show/hide the blob on REVU's main page)00:19

RainCTgeser: oh, that wasn't necessary. but thanks :)00:32

awmcclainI'm trying to test my package before I upload it to my PPA, but for some strange reason, pdebuild is failing. It's giving me 'make: dh_testdir: Command not found'. Is the virtual environment looking for a deb helper command that isn't installed?04:01
Hobbseeheh.  i got to 61.04:01
StevenKawmcclain: You don't have a Build-Depends on debhelper?04:01
* nhandler has 126 uploads04:02
awmcclainStevenK: Ah... I bet that's the problem. Upstream was changed, and I bet he forgot it. Thank you.04:02
awmcclainoh, no04:03

awmcclainAnything you need to build source should be listed under Build-Depends-Indep, correct?07:52
RAOFNo?07:53
slytherinawmcclain: I think anything you need to run clean target needs to be in -Indep07:54
RAOFslytherin: No, the other way 'round.07:56
RAOFawmcclain: Is your package arch: all?  If not, you don't have to care.07:57
awmcclainRAOF: Bear with me, because I'm operating at the very edge of my knowledge. The reason I ask is because pbuilder complains about unmet dependencies, even though the packages are in the Depends: section of my sub-packages.07:58
RAOFawmcclain: If it _is_ arch: all, then anything you need to run the 'clean' and 'binary-arch' and 'build-arch' targets must be in build-depends; everything else in build-depends-indep.07:58
awmcclainRAOF: Yes, it is arch all.07:59
RAOFYou're after: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html sec 7, incidentally.07:59
awmcclainAh, ok. So. Let me see if i have this right. When you build source, it hasn't gotten to the binary-arch sections yet (or it won't, since you're not building binaries).08:00
awmcclainThank you for the link!08:00
RAOFBuilding the source package will only call the clean target.08:01
awmcclainHrm. Could you point me to docs for the default build targets? I think that's what's tripping me up.08:06
slytherinRAOF: yes, got confused08:07
RAOFawmcclain: That's in the same policy document, but elsewhere.  I'll hunt it down for you.08:36

huatsnorsetto: sure11:10
DktrKranzWubbbi: you put quilt in Build-Depends, but it seems you didn't patch anything, so it can be omitted11:11
Wubbbiyou mean my 2 uploades with no changes on the source? ... that because I forgott the orgi.tar.gz ;)11:12

DktrKranznorsetto: I don't like listing b-d when not needed. Ok, patch systems are safe, don't bring in complexity or increase build time, but it is not needed here (and I can force people using quilt under threat later on...)11:18

slytherinDRebellion: for sf.net the urls in watch file should not use any particular mirror. You can find example watch file sf.net on http://wiki.ubuntu.com13:40
DRebellionslytherin, I wasn't using a particular mirror. The instructions on wiki.ubuntu.com that I followed rely on qa.debian.org to choose a mirror. The heanet error is passed on through qa.debian.org as an error (hence the HTTP 500 code: "internal server error". Anyway, heanet is back up now - must have been a minor hiccup13:41

RainCTsilwol: how huge is 'huge'?19:13
silwolwell, depends on the region you want to install19:14
RichWIve seen 300MB+ packages in ubuntu.19:14
silwolI think europe has about 500mb19:14
silwolbut the data is getting more and more19:14
RainCTsilwol: better go with the scripts then, but make that discoverable to users19:15
silwoland another thing: how do I update the config file?19:16
RichWA small gui utility would be nice (for downloading maps), python maybe.19:16
silwolit's an xml file which I will place in the /etc directory.19:16
silwolit does not allow inclusions as far as I have seen for now.19:16
RainCTsilwol: dpkg should take care of that19:16
silwolso dpkg should edit the config when I add or remove maps?19:17
RainCTah19:17
silwolIn my opinion it would be the best to have a directory like apache does with mods19:17
Laneysilwol: You can use debconf to prompt to download maps or not in the postinst.19:17
Laneymight be a nice solution19:17
silwolLaney: but I guess it would make sense to keep an entry in the application menu as well because the maps change quite frequently19:18
Laneysilwol: Oh yes, that definitely makes sense too. I'm just thinking that when someone installs such an application, they might want the data to be installed with it19:19
silwolwhere should the map data go if it is installed by a script? /usr/share/navit?19:21
silwolAnother problem: the data has to be converted using a small program from navit.19:27
silwolthis reduces the size to about half or a third of the original file size19:27
silwolthis means the users would have to download far more than necessary19:28

slytherinRichW: Put hardy in changelog. But I guess launchpad now allows you to simply copy source packages from one version to another in ppa19:49
geserRichW: you need to upload it for hardy too (with a different revision)19:49
slytherinSolarWar: paste your debian/control file somewhere19:50
azeemSolarWar: you're mixing Build-Depends with binary Depends then19:50
azeemSolarWar: Build-Depends are for building the packages, binary Depends or for package installation19:50
geserslytherin: copying only works if you copy source and binaries, it doesn't get rebuild (won't work with package pools)19:50
slytherinoh, I didn't know that19:50
SolarWarazeem, sladen  http://rafb.net/p/1eHmCY56.html19:51
geserand it better to copy "upwards", from hardy to intrepid and not vice versa due to dependencies inserted during build19:51
SolarWarthe qlix-dbg package needs qlix, and libqt4-dev for debug symbols19:51
azeemSolarWar: Build-Depends have no business in binary package stanzas19:51
azeemSolarWar: so add those to the top Build-Depends19:51
kduboishow do i know if an upload to my ppa worked?19:52
azeemSolarWar: are you sure it needs libqt4-dbg /when building/?19:52
Awsoonnwhen I modify a string, what happens to the translation for it?19:52
kduboisit said it was accepted, but ppa.launchpad.net/kdub is empty...19:52
azeemSolarWar: I think what you want is add libqt-dbg to Depends19:52
azeemkdubois: there might be some delay19:52
slytherinkdubois: perhaps it is yet to be built19:53
SolarWarazeem, what does the Depends field do again?19:56
kduboisalright, i'll wait a bit... :P19:56
RichWkdubois: Check your email19:57
RichWkdubois: Im doing this for the first time too :)19:57
slytheringeser: sorry to bug again, free to do review for new version of electric?19:57
azeemSolarWar: check the policy19:57
SolarWarwhere can i find that?A19:57
slytherinSolarWar: Depends field specifies on which package your app depends for running19:58
azeemapt-get install debian-policy19:58
slytherinSolarWar: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ Check chapter 519:58
kduboisRichW: it said it was accepted in the email, so i guess i just have to wait a bit for things to go through20:01
geserkdubois: I just looked and they were getting build, so just wait till they finish building and get published20:02
kduboissweet! it worked. sorry for my impatience20:06
kduboisdo people need to add my gpg key to use my ppa?20:07
LaneyI don't think ppa uploads are signed20:07
slytherinkdubois: no, ppa packages are not signed20:07
cprovkdubois: PPA uploads have to be signed (so, you need to register your GPG key) but the archive itself is not signed, anyone can add it to his source.list and use your packages (as long as they ignore the error raised by apt)20:09
slytheringeser: please find some time to review and sponsor - bug 242720. See you tomorrow.20:10
kduboisah, neat. thanks20:10
ubottuLaunchpad bug 242720 in electric "[New Upstream Release] Electric has released 8.06" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/24272020:10

warp10heya norsetto! great lecture today, congrats!21:41
NCommandernorsetto, why do you think I'm insane21:42
* NCommander has already binary-crossed the necessary toolchains21:42
* NCommander is installed ubuntu-ppc on his old machine to create a dak server21:42
norsettowarp10: hey warp10, glad you liked it21:42
nhandlernorsetto: I learned a lot from reading the log of the lecture. Congratulations21:42
NCommandernorsetto, why am I so insane :-P21:43
norsettonhandler: thanks21:43
norsettoNCommander: was just commenting on "NCommander works on bootstrapping an armel port of Ubuntu"21:43
NCommander:-P21:44
NCommanderGreat, I'm insane then21:44
norsettoNCommander: nothing wrong to be insane, many great people are insane ;-)21:44
NCommander_-;21:44
norsettowarp10, nhandler: when is your turn ? :-P21:46
warp10norsetto: mmm... soon, I hope. Is there any topic more urgent than other?21:47
* warp10 browse the request list21:47
nhandlernorsetto: I'm not sure yet. But I will do one eventually.21:47
nhandlerwarp10, where is the request list?21:47

norsettowarp10: what about "all you ever wanted to know about packaging python apps and never dared to ask", with particular attention to the "New new new python policy"?21:57
norsettowarp10: finished by an open debate about pycentral vs. pysupport :-P21:59
warp10norsetto: s/open debate/bloody flame/ :P22:01
warp10norsetto: yeah, that's an idea. A topic about QA activities could be a good idea too22:01
norsettowarp10: indeed22:01
dmishdhello, is this the right place to ask about getting an updated package into the intrepid universe?22:03
Laneywhy yes, yes it is22:03
dmishdexcellent :)22:04
dmishd Wanted to check on the process for getting a new upstream version of mypasswordsafe uploaded for intrepid.  I've packaged it in my ppa, registered it as a bug in launchpad, nominated it for release and subscribed the ubuntu-universe-sponsors.  Did that a few weeks ago and have heard nothing since.  Is it usual to wait for several weeks or is there something else I should do?22:04
dmishdThe bug url is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mypasswordsafe/+bug/22189322:04
ubottuLaunchpad bug 221893 in mypasswordsafe "MyPasswordSafe package needs updating" [Undecided,In progress]22:04
dmishdit would be a more recent version than the version in ubuntu, though the upstream release was 2006, and fixes a serious bug for 64 bit users22:06
Laneydmishd: There's no need to nominate22:06
SolarWaranyone have any idea why I get these errors: Error '425 Security: Bad IP connecting.' during ftp transfer of qlix_0.2.4-0ubuntu1_source.changes22:06
LaneyAnd the reason nobody's reviewed it is because of the status. It wants to be "Confirmed".22:06
LaneyAlso for sponsorship of a new upstream version you need to attach the .diff.gz to the bug report.22:06
dmishdah thank you.  I'll go sort that out.  Anything else?22:07
Laneydmishd: It might be worth emailing/ircing the Debian maintainer to see if he wants to take your package too22:07
LaneyI see that you've given sources.list lines for Ubuntu on the debian bug, some people might not like that22:07
dmishdI have added a comment to the debian bug, should I email aswell?22:08
LaneyA polite note might be welcomed22:08
LaneyGetting the updated package into Debian is easier for Ubuntu anyway.22:09
dmishdOK.  And thanks for the heads up about the sources.list thing.  I did add a note at the bottom saying I was new to this etc ...22:10
LaneyYeah I saw, it's no big deal. Just that mixing repos from different distros can cause unforseen problems22:11
dmishdThank you for the help Laney :)22:20
Laneyno probs22:20
Laneyand good luck!22:20
Laneydmishd: You need to fix the version number in your changelog22:21
LaneyBah. The debian QA group updated a package that I'd already done an update for. :(22:33
LaneyI posted that an update was available to the wnpp bug too22:33

nxvlnorsetto: i'm trying to avoid thinking in that, really22:54
nxvlnorsetto: actually they are kind of different, the problem is to hear the fights and whims from her sister22:55

nxvlnorsetto: i can't make that RoAkSoAx is a friend of mine22:58
azeemwhat's the difference between https://launchpad.net/~motu and https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-dev?23:40
RAOFubuntu-dev is deprecated, IIRC.23:41
azeemk, I got a mail saying I should contact Tech Board else my ubuntu-dev membership will expire this week23:41
wgrantazeem: The aim is to have no direct members in ubuntu-dev except for teams. Everybody should keep their motu membership instead.23:50
azeemI'll just ignore those mails then, thanks23:51
