moj0risingHello. Is anyone here at the moment?05:18
MythbuntuGuest86Hallo10:23
MythbuntuGuest86Just want to find out a bit more about mythbuntu.  Is it hard to configure and understand for a new user?  Is file sharing betwean a winxp and mythbuntu pc possible and finally what IR device do you need to be able to change channels on your decoder?10:24
lagahello10:37
lagawell, for 1) not sure - depends on you :) but it's supposed to be easy and if you run into problems, there's a lot of ressources10:38
laga2) yes, that's possible. it's linux after all10:38
laga3) i don't know - these are called "ir blasters"10:38
MythbuntuGuest86Nice, yeah im kinda new to Linux.  Allways been a windows user, time to port over now.10:43
MythbuntuGuest86I have tried ubuntu before, but never could manage to get my wireless card to work, its smc.10:43
hadsThe MS MCE remotes come with a blaster which is supported by lirc10:44
hadsEasy10:44
lagadepends which version of ubuntu you tried before.. if it doesn't work in ubuntu 8.04, it's not going to work in mythbuntu 8.04 either. but if you tried an earlier version, it's quite possible that it works now10:44
MythbuntuGuest86Yeah, well if it does not work on the wireless lan I can always use my extra lan cable.  :)10:45
MythbuntuGuest86MS MCE remote sounds cool.10:45
MythbuntuGuest86Thanks a lot for the info so far, im going to download the iso tonight and hold thumbs.10:49
MythbuntuGuest86Ok guys im on my way, will download and report back my experience, thank you.10:58
jmichelHi, I think it is an easy question because I already did it 2 months ago on another machine but I can't remeber how: I have a MythBuntu pc with 3 Hauppauge PVR cards and 1 digital ATSC card. Whenever I select LiveTV, the digital card is always the first one to be used but I'd prefer to use the PVR first. I lowered the digital's card priority in mythtv-setup and I made sure the digital card was the last in the list of devic13:51
jacoodyanyone here at the moment?14:02
sabhainwhat's your question?14:07
jacoodyI left a log on pastebin but my tuner is conflicting.14:07
jphillip!ask | jacoody14:07
Zinnjacoody: Please don't ask if anyone is around or if it is alright to ask a question.  Many people check back periodically and may answer your question when they see it.  IRC is not normally an instant fix so check back often for an answer.14:07
jacoodyI'm trying to use the v4l drivers for analog cable with pc-550014:08
jacoodysorry zinn.  i didn't know the protocol.  I asked 13 hours ago so i wasn't sure what to do14:08
jphillipjacoody no problem, just sometimes people ask if thye can ask and never ask the question14:17
jphillipif you don't get an answer here you can always try the forums14:17
jacoodyyeah, I tried them and tried everything on the internet :)14:17
jacoodywhen I upgrade the v4l-dvb as suggested I get a sound error instead heh14:17
jphillipyou posted in there, or just searched them?14:18
jacoodyposted in ubuntuforums.org14:18
jacoodyand on the mythtv-users email list14:18
jacoodybasically with built in drivers the tuner doesn't work and with the upgrade drivers the sound doesn't work.  I'm not a linux guru so I'm not sure what to do next14:19
jacoodyi'll check back later14:22
jphilliphey darthanubis14:23
jphillipls14:26
jphillipdarthanubis want to run through the process that you are doing to test mythexpot, I was thinking about it and something doesn't seem right14:27
jmichelHave you seen my question posted right before jacoody?14:51
jphillipjmichel http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/34186114:53
jmichelthanks for the link... I'll try the reorder my input as stated14:57
jphillipyou can try the avoid livetv conflicts that is mentioned as well14:59
jphillipalso, when you launch livetv, in the menu you can change the input/source/etc15:00
jmicheljphillip: I know I can change input once into liveTV but because most of the time I watch analog TV I find it anoying to always change :)15:20
thatdoodyou would think it would just remember the last channel AND input you were last on. /shrug15:36
MythbuntuGuest22hello all...  Setting up a Client box and need assistance selecting a USB Network Adapter16:19
MythbuntuGuest22Using the DLINK Dir-655;  wanting a Draft-N adapter that is STABLE...  ANY HELP?16:20
MythbuntuGuest22*Foxbuntu...  You availavle?16:21
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, Network manager should have no problem with the USB NIC, I use one myself16:22
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, Why draft-N?16:23
lagafoxbuntu: well, it needs to be supported by linux ;()16:24
foxbuntulaga, well N spec wireless needs supported by the IEEE first16:24
foxbuntu;)16:24
lagahaha16:25
lagayeah, that's a shame16:25
MythbuntuGuest22wanting to get the fastest speeds; know there are issues with it in the past16:25
MythbuntuGuest22not sure if there is anything out yet that is compliant and stable16:25
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, nope16:26
MythbuntuGuest22Had the Linksys WUSB300N working but it would error the ports; very unstable...16:26
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, I am a network engineer and work with Wireless allot, draft N is a big no no in the enterprise world yet16:27
lagawell, for SOHO use..16:27
foxbuntustill, I personally would stay away until its spec'd16:27
MythbuntuGuest22Thanks Foxbuntu...  What would you recommend; speed, reliability...  range not so much16:27
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, the WRT-54G's from linksys seem pretty good16:28
foxbuntuASUS has a pretty good g router16:29
foxbuntuNetgear has a new Open-Source G router16:29
MythbuntuGuest22So you are saying I should replace the router?16:29
MythbuntuGuest22It is running pretty damb good16:29
foxbuntuoh you are just wanting a new card?16:30
foxbuntuwhat router do you have?16:30
MythbuntuGuest22Using the Dlink 65516:30
foxbuntuany old G card will do16:30
foxbuntuwell16:30
foxbuntulinksys, dlink16:31
MythbuntuGuest22im sure any will...  Which gives the most BANG for the buck... you know///16:31
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, G is G, its a spec16:31
foxbuntuthe expanded speed is based on the router16:31
lagayeah, but some are cheaper.. and some perform better :)16:31
lagaand the quality of the linux driver varies etc16:31
lagaMythbuntuGuest22: are you going to stream hdtv?16:31
foxbuntulaga, over g?16:32
lagawell, he wanted draft N initially that's why i asked :)16:32
MythbuntuGuest22right on....  Not yet, just know I will eventually16:32
foxbuntuyeah...but everyone does because its supposed to be faster :-)16:32
foxbuntulol16:32
MythbuntuGuest22lol16:33
lagai don't want it, i can't afford it ;)16:33
foxbuntulaga, yeah...but your the exception to the rule16:33
lagaouch!16:33
foxbuntuhaha16:34
MythbuntuGuest22liked what the DIR-160 offers....  pricy ($74) there are issues installing on Hardy; from what I have read.  That was the reasoning..16:34
foxbuntulaga, its alright though...I havent made any shots at germans latley]16:34
lagaMythbuntuGuest22: you could always buy another draft-n router and use that as a bridge.. that's probably more expensive, tho16:34
MythbuntuGuest22Thats an idea laga.  Would not need to worry about drivers than....16:35
MythbuntuGuest22laga:  thanks for the thought; will check into that...16:36
foxbuntuMythbuntuGuest22, or...you could do like I did, just have a long arse cat5 cable laying on the floor16:36
MythbuntuGuest22In an apartment (family owned) and dont want to drill the wall...  Think I like the bridge idea!  Ok, got to get to work now..... THANKS FOXBUNTU and LAGA.  You guys are great!!!16:37
lagamake sure the AP supports bridging mode ;)16:38
lagahave fun at work16:38
foxbuntulater16:38
MythbuntuGuest22cya16:38
jphillipstreaming over wifi is a mess :)16:39
ownatsch__hi, i have a hauppauge hvr-4000 card, installed the multifrontend drivers, i managed to run a successful scan but apparently i'm not abled to get the thing working in mythtv or even get a picture in mplayer, could someone help me out here?19:29
SHADOW__Xhello21:22
SHADOW__Xi have my hauppauge hvr-1800 working in linux21:22
SHADOW__Xtvtime and mplayer work with analog21:23
SHADOW__Xbut when i try and use it in mythtv it doesnt work right if i use tvtime or ivtv-tune to tune to a channel i can watch that channel on the front end but it wont know what c hannel i am on and changing the channel just makes it hang21:24
zabbadappSHADOW__X: can you scan for channels in mythtv-setup? does it find any?21:40
SHADOW__Xyup21:42
SHADOW__Xthat works fine21:42
zabbadappso what does arrow up/down do in myth-frontend while watching tv (should change channel)21:43
SHADOW__Xnope21:43
SHADOW__Xit doesnt know what channel its on21:44
SHADOW__Xif i change the  channel it just hangs21:44
SHADOW__Xi can just goto a channel i have to first use tvtime or ivtv-tune to tune to a channel then the channel i tuned to will be availble in myth21:44
SHADOW__Xbut it wont know what channel its on and it cant change the channel21:44
zabbadappcan you change channel using the v4lctl command? if that works, you could as a workaround use what is called "external change command" in myth-setup to call a script that will do "v4lctl -c /dev/video0 setchannel $1" for you.21:48
SHADOW__Xzabbadapp: i already wrote a script using ivtv-tune21:57
zabbadappah, ok ... can you change channel that way from the command line?22:00
SHADOW__Xyes22:00
SHADOW__Xbut that wont work in myth22:00
SHADOW__Xzabbadapp:  any ideas22:30
zabbadappare you using $1 as the channel passed from mythtv correctly? (first argument)22:34
SHADOW__X#!/bin/sh22:36
SHADOW__X/usr/bin/ivtv-tune -tus-cable-hrc -d/dev/video2 -c $122:36
SHADOW__Xthats the script22:36
SHADOW__Xshould i make a script like the one you said but i couldnt use your command22:51
=== rhpot1992 is now known as rhpot1991
SHADOW__Xzabbadapp: you there23:16
zabbadapphmm .. but that script works for you on the commandline?23:17
SHADOW__Xyup i just type analog.sh 72 and that works23:18
SHADOW__Xalso where it says external channel change command i have /usr/local/bin/analog.sh then the next line where it says preset tuner to channel is blank23:21
zabbadappare the permissions correct? try to add a line: echo 'hello from channel change script' > /tmp/alive.txt  ... in there to see if it actually executes23:22
SHADOW__Xalright23:22
SHADOW__Xi also made the file permissions for everytone23:23
zabbadapprwx for all?23:23
SHADOW__Xmhm23:23
zabbadappor rx atleast :-)23:23
SHADOW__Xeverything for everyone lol23:23
SHADOW__Xalthough i need root access to edit the file23:24
SHADOW__Xzabbadapp:  it doesnt run23:33
zabbadappno wonder you can't change the channel23:48
SHADOW__Xright23:50
SHADOW__Xwhy isnt it running the script23:50
SHADOW__Xi can run it in terminal23:50
SHADOW__Xany suggestions23:56
