brandon__I have Kubuntu 8.04 and for some reason my cpu is staying at 100% usage. Any idea why?04:22
rwwroldyx: hmm, i'm not sure. you may want to ask in #ubuntu; there are many more people there, and one of them might know04:23
brandon__Thanks, I'll do that.04:23
rwwbrandon__: open up a terminal and run top. it'll sort programs in descending order of CPU usage04:23
roldyxrww: thanks anyway04:24
roldyx;)04:24
roldyxrww: sorry for my english..04:24
brandon__i have done that and really not found anything too bad: no zombies. etc ...04:25
rwwroldyx: no problem, you type better than my family does, so I have no complaints ;)04:25
rwwbrandon__: are there one or two processes taking up all of your CPU%, though?04:26
brandon__xgl takes an average of about 4% spikes up to 27% on occasion nothing else even close???04:27
rwwHmm. You probably aren't hitting 100%, then. What's the first percentage on the 3rd line of top's output? "CPU(s): X.X%us"?04:28
brandon__I am really stumped. This is a pretty fresh install. I added compiz:1.0.7.6 and the avant-window-navigator and kbfx. other than that nothing fancy..04:29
brandon__OOOO! python is spiking up in the 80's now..04:30
brandon__ya, it's python that's eating me up.04:31
black_13can kubuntu be updated to mythbuntu04:33
rwwhmm. try killing python then -- sudo killall python04:33
brandon__Thanks, everything seems to be fine now. How can I prevent that from happenning in the future. I had already reniced it to 19??04:35
rwwbrandon__: to be honest, I'm not sure. you'd have to dig a little deeper and find out what python's doing it, and why it's running04:37
brandon__ok. since yo seem to be pretty knowledeable. Do you have time for another quick one?04:38
rwwbrandon__: sure :)04:38
brandon__I have kubuntu 8.04. I have upgraded to compiz 1.7.6 I can't get the desktop number to change from 1 but I can change the horizontal size to 4 and get a cube. I really want to use the wallpaper plugin, but I would have to get this solved first.04:40
brandon__I can get it to work fine on ubuntu 8.04 and on linux mint 5.0 (elyssa)04:41
rwwbrandon__: I don't have 3D acceleration on my computer, so i know next to nothing about compiz :(. you could try asking the folks in #compiz-fusion though04:41
rww!compiz | brandon__04:41

spike_isn't hardy meant to be kde4?08:08
mase_slaptspike_: there are kde 4.0 and kde4.1 packages for hardy08:09

_2are you talking08:46
spike_gnomes clock is built into one of the panels at the top or bottom I can't remember wich, but its efinitely not kicker :)08:46
_2spike_ it's still just an applet.08:47
_2wedget applet *oid08:47
spike_kubuntu uses kde which uses kicker (I think in kde4 it has been renamed possibly kickstart or something)08:47
lunch2it's not biggy. i got 'orange clock' running. works fine08:48
_2lunch2 kde3 uses kicker.   kicker runs several applets amongst which is "/usr/bin/kclock.kss"  clock  in the list of applets that a right click add applets would show you.08:50
_2you can right click the clock applet and configure it to display only the date.08:50
lunch2_2, ok thx08:51
_2as per gnome   basicly the same thing.     the default setup you would have to unlock pannels first then configure/add/remove ...08:51

crimsuntgralke: those are expected, correct, and useful.23:10
chrisinajarnow it panics probably 1 out of every 3 boots23:10
chrisinajarand kernel panics after only an hour or so of use23:11
crimsunchrisinajar: have you run memtest+ from the grub menu?23:11
chrisinajarI have not, would that be a wise choice?23:11
crimsunchrisinajar: absolutely.23:11
chipbuddyi want a music player that will reorganize my songs. similar to how f-stop moves my pictures around. will amarok do that?23:12
tgralkecrimsun: so i better leave them where they are...23:12
crimsuntgralke: unless you want your system to mysteriously and nondeterministically break.23:12
crimsuntgralke: (they are, however, recreated on boot.)23:12
appletree@ chrisinajar when you use graphig .video and so on?23:13
l3xchipbuddy: i do not think that amarok can reorganize directories...23:13
chrisinajarwhat?23:13
