Mezze15:38
Mezzul, you broke php15:38
persiaMez: Consider it a security fix15:49
Mezpersia, what? making 30+ packages FTBFS?15:49
persiaYep.  That makes all the PHP webapps uninstallable.  Immediately reduces the work of the security team :)15:49
Hobbseefunny, i *don't* think the users will agree with you.15:50
Mezpersia, why the PHP bashing?15:50
Mezbug #25421515:50
ubottuLaunchpad bug 254215 in php5 "PEAR depends not included" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/25421515:50
persiaHobbsee: Neither do I.15:51
persiaMez: Not PHP, so much as the dependent apps.  Seems to be a persistent set of security problems, as likely related to the domain as the implementation.  Anyway, it was supposed to be a silver lining.  Apaarently it's well tarnished, and I'll take it away again.15:52
Mezpersia, to me, it just seems like you're PHP bashing... saying that anything written in PHP is a security hole. Which ... I'm pretty offended by as a PHP developer15:54
persiaMez: Not anything, just some things.  No offense intended.  I've also been a PHP developer, I just dislike all languages equally.15:55
dholbachMez: it'd help zul, if you told him what's broken15:57
Mezyes, there are some badly written scripts out there. But, that's the same as anything. Look at some of your higher end apps... and you'll see what I mean (wordpress, wikimedia, etc etc). Yes, there are going to be security holes... but because it's written in PHP, it doesn't mean that there are going to be more in it... Unless it's written by a bad programmer. Who would make those same problems in any other package15:57
Mezdholbach, I thought I did ?15:57
Mez    - Depend on php5-cli in php-pear (Closes: #482517)15:57
dholbachI just read "you broke php"15:57
persiadholbach: Details are in the bug.15:57
dholbachalrighty15:57

ubottuLaunchpad bug 254215 in php5 "PEAR depends not included" [High,New]15:57
persiaMez: well, wordpress was one of the apps with the persistent updates, but yes, there can be well written apps.15:58
Mezpersia, wordpress to me seems to do more feature releases than security releases...15:58
persiaMez: Yes, and sometimes with security fixes mixed in.  Anyway, we're well away from the original point.  Again, I'm sorry that my comment was taken as offensive, and do agree the bug should be fixed.15:59
