CarlFK.26 makes my wifi work, but nvidia not00:03

CarlFKbooting 2.6.26-5 hung on an acpi thing, so I tried acpi=off and got ~ "crash - use apic=debug and file a report" - so I booted with debug, what all should I include in the report?  15:26
CarlFKand is it against the kernel? 15:27
CarlFKoh yeah - booting w/ debug, it stopped on [    0.556031] ACPI: EC: non-query interrupt received, switching to interrupt mode15:28
CarlFKhit the power button and it finished booting 15:29
smb_tpCarlFK, Beside the usual suspects (kernel version, dmesg (since power button helps), it would be helpfull to have the contents of /proc/acpi/dsdt and dmidecode15:33
KanoCarlFK: is it a system with ati xpress 1200?15:34
CarlFKKano: nvidia 15:37
Kanonvidia chipset?15:38
CarlFKGeForce 7150M - and a bunch of other stuff - I'll post lspci in my report15:41
CarlFKsmb_tp: what is dsdt?15:45
CarlFKcat .... doesn't look human readable 15:46
smb_tpCarlFK, The ACPI description table. It is binary. 15:46
KanoBenC: could you update to 2.6.26.1?15:46
CarlFKhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/254668  Ill attach it15:47
smb_tpCarlFK, you have to disassemble with iasl to get ascii (still quite cryptic)15:47
smb_tpCarlFK, oh, and also put which kernel was the most recent that worked for you15:49
CarlFKprobably 24-12 in March hardy beta15:52
smb_tpCarlFK, ok also before early enabling the boot ec... but best keep all info together in the report. there have been similar cases (without the power button work-around). but it is better to track this separately.15:55
CarlFKto figure out what kernel works: i have 5 kernels: .24-12-386, -19-386, -19-generic, 26-4/5-generic - what kernel params should I boot them with?15:58
CarlFKI don't exactly have time to try too many permutations on all of them15:59
smb_tpCarlFK, I think -19-generic should show the same probs. If you boot there with the options that did let you see where the hang occured, so you can tell it appears at the same place (or not)16:01
smb_tpCarlFK, Otherwise it is ok if you just say what you think was the last one that was ok.16:02
CarlFK19-generic apic=debug make sense?16:10
smb_tpCarlFK, oh it was apic debug you referred to above. It should not hurt. Guess the important part is to remove quiet and splash to see what is going on16:12
CarlFKok - off we go.16:13
CarlFK2.6.24-19-generic apic=debug, no hang.  dmesg attached.  should I attach any other logs?16:26
smb_tpCarlFK, None I can currently think of16:27
CarlFKI need to compile madwifi for 2.26 (because ath5k doesn't support mode=ap) - any idea where the headers are?  16:28
CarlFKim still on hardy, so I don't have intrepid repos enabled 16:29
sorenCarlFK: "2.26"? You mean 2.6.26?16:30
sorenbrb16:30
KanoCarlFK: install module-assistant , then m-a prepare16:31
CarlFKsoren: yes16:31
CarlFKKano: k - thanks.  booting back to .26 we go16:33
zulhow do you skip the abi checks when running the fakeroot debian/rules binary-whatever16:38
Kanotime debian/rules binary-debs flavours=generic skipabi=true skipmodule=true16:40
sorenCarlFK: If you have 2.6.26, you must have compiled it yourself, so only you know where the headers might be.16:47
soren(since you say that you're on hardy)16:47
AlmightyCthulhuyou can use the 2.6.26 packages from Intrepid16:49
AlmightyCthulhuI would advise against it16:49
smb_tpCarlFK, ...hm right. in that case after a binary-generic and a binary-headers run, the headers all and headers generic package would have to be installed...16:50
CMDL1N3hello17:16
CMDL1N3i keep getting /sbin/modprobe abnormal exit when i boot 8.04 install cd17:16
smb_tpCarlFK, if you are doing your own kernels you might want to remove the lines introduced by http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=b3b233c7d948a5f55185fb5a1b248157b948a1e517:19
