=== CShadowRun is now known as cshadowrun [03:28] Can ubuntu mobile be embedded on the nintendo ds [03:48] no === persia_ is now known as persia [09:56] Is it possible to run MID on OpenMoko? [10:01] Moo: I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean the Ubuntu MID images on the OpenMoko hardware? [10:01] In that case, no: the OpenMoko hardware is ARM, and the Ubuntu MID images are for lpia. [10:05] persia: ah, that was what I was looking for, thx === emgent is now known as pint === pint is now known as emgent [18:46] how much ram is needed for UME? can it run well in 128M? 64M? 32? === asac_ is now known as asac [18:53] sn9: Works best at 512, can do at 384, and might work at 256, but in a degraded fashion. [18:53] Most testing was with 512 or 1G [18:53] yeesh, what a hog [18:54] The focus has more been about experience than making it work on small hardware. [18:54] This is perhaps nice because some bits look nice. [18:54] most MIDs are small [18:54] Unfortunately it means that almost nobody has the right target hardware. [18:54] yep [18:55] True, but most MIDs are ARM as well, and Ubuntu MID doesn't work on ARM: it's lpia only. [18:55] is it still lighter than netbook-remix? [18:55] No idea: I've not tried netbook-remix. That said, I suspect it's smaller, just because I've heard that netbook remix uses most of the standard desktop apps. [18:57] so, regular ubuntu and xubuntu are actually the lightest flavors? [18:59] No. I think Ubuntu MID is slightly lighter than Ubuntu Desktop (which I'd not want to run with <1G). [18:59] I've not compared with Xubuntu. [19:00] i am running Ubuntu Desktop on this laptop with 256, and it's also running kqemu in the background with 128 set aside for the UME kvm image [19:00] sn9: And does that work? [19:00] yep [19:00] Nifty. [19:00] the UME is slow, though [19:00] Lots of swapping? [19:01] only if i open too many things at once [19:01] like OOo [19:01] Maybe that's why I think everything has high RAM requirements :) [19:02] the UME kvm image has a bad menu.lst file, btw [19:02] it's valid, but incorrect [19:03] Incorrect? Which image did you install? [19:03] the kvm one [19:03] Oh. Quite possibly. [19:04] easy to fix, though [19:04] With ubuntu-mobile-builder, or by hand? [19:04] fixing the file? easy by hand [19:04] Yeah :) [19:05] It's getting the code that generates the code that generates the file to do it right that's tricky. [19:05] here are the things wrong with the file: [19:06] 1) splashimage= line missing [19:06] 2) hiddenmenu uncommented, hiding the splash [19:07] 3) kopt line missing options "acpi=force snd.cards_limit=0" [19:07] those options are needed for the lpia kernel to work right in kvm/qemu [19:09] Hmm. Worked for me in kvm without any changes. Are you using the 8.04.1 image? [19:09] yep [19:14] come to think of it, those options best always be used for the lpia kernel anywhere [23:06] Hello, does a Dell Axim X5 32mb support Ubuntu MID? [23:09] Would anyone like to take a guess [23:15] i would guess no
