[00:42] !bug 229949 | superm1 [00:42] superm1: Bug 229949 in mythbuntu "guide slow and unresponsive" [Low, Confirmed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/229949 [01:03] Good evening everyone. I was curious as to how I change what display mythtv starts on? Currently it's running on :0, but I need it to start on :1. Any thoughts? [01:16] try putting DISPLAY=:0 in front of your mythfrontend command [01:16] DISPLAY=:0 mythfrontend --options-here [01:17] errr [01:17] DISPLAY=:1 mythfrontend --options-here [01:18] excellent, thanks! that works great. Do you happen to know what script mythfrontend is called from during login when auto-login is enabled? [01:23] nvm, i think i found it [01:23] thanks for your help [01:44] sweet [02:24] is somebody able to assist me with tuning of satellite channels? i'm a moron [02:56] i can try [03:07] any1 after upgrading having problems with remotes? [04:08] hey guys I am trying to setup a new frontend machine and it is asking me for the mythconverg information. I can ssh to the mythbackend box and look directly at the /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt file. I copy/pasted the password right out of the file. For the HostName I used the machine's IP address. But it says the connection failed. The only thing I can think of is in the mysql.txt, DBHostName=localhost on the BE box. Will this caus [04:10] yea it needs to be set to accept connections from other than localhost [04:10] mysql does [04:10] do I change that in the mysql.txt and reboot or what? [04:14] javatexan, enable the mysql service in MCC on the master backend [04:15] then reboot [04:19] tgm4883_laptop: I love mythbuntu :) [04:19] um [04:19] mythbuntu loves you too ;) [04:19] LOL [04:19] my TIVO likes it now too.... [04:20] they are playing nicely together [05:06] quick stupid question for people - new to mythtv and i was watching a show, and I wanted to make the show to be saved, in one of the menus i found "preserve this episode" but i wasn't sure when it was enabled [05:06] how do i tell? [05:07] if i hit space it becomes darker and says "do not preserve this episode" so i guess this is disabling that? by default it seemed to be "preserve this episode" [06:02] which capture card type should i be selecting in the backend setup for a happauge nov-s plus card? the manual says "mpeg-2 encorder card (pvr-x50, pvr-500) for all happauge cards. but it says "failed to open" underneith. anybody struck this before? [06:07] Cardboardjesus, I think the NOVA-S is a DVB card IIRC [06:09] so i use what?, the cardtype "dvb dtv capture card v3.x" instead? === superm1 is now known as superm1|away [08:30] I am having trouble with my CommandIR II. It shows the green light after I boot mythbuntu, but the first remote control button I press causes it to go red. Any ideas? [08:31] I did notice in dmesg that I get 'lirc_cmdir: usb error on read = 10' before the first press, and 'lirc_cmdir: usb error on read = -32' after. This is on two different computer systems. [11:04] Anyone know how to get mythtv back up and running after upgrading to latest version of mythbuntu? [11:30] Anyone here know how to get a soundcard workign? [11:43] you need to ask more specific questions [11:45] Well I have a Turtle Beach Soundcard that used to work and doesn't anymore. [11:53] well, does it show up in dmesg? [11:55] Never knew what that was, but yes it shows up...Although it says fails with error -5 [11:55] That could be because I'm trying to install a driver for it [11:55] ugh :( [11:56] "it doesn't work" and "i'm messing with my kernel to get it working" are different things ;) [11:57] I don't know what messing with kernal means I was trying to follow directions from this site I found. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449 [12:01] Does the failed with error -5 mean I just need a new sound card [12:04] Oh well I'll just get a new sound card see if that works...have a good day === superm1|away is now known as superm1 [14:49] hi is there a way to change the boot splash image? [14:53] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/USplash [14:53] thx [14:53] np [14:56] does someone use a mythbuntu xen backend? when someone does, did you make an howto? [14:56] you mean running the backend in a virtual machine? [15:47] yes === _Mazga is now known as Mazga267 === superm1 is now known as superm1|away === superm1|away is now known as superm1 [16:48] When trying to transmit from hauppage 150 to dct2000 i get this error: lirc_pvr150: failed to get data for code 0, key 9036 -- check lircd.conf entries [16:49] i've googled it, but there doesn't seem to be much regarding this. :-/ [17:43] hello everyone [17:46] Hey Shadow. :) [17:49] Shadow__X: i did my 720p MKV test [17:49] 30-40% CPU usage on one core [17:49] not bad [17:49] i guess iw as way off [17:49] :) [17:49] gladfully so [17:49] AFAIK deocding MPEG2 should be less CPU intensive, so playback of recorded HD shows in mythtv should be easy [17:50] mhm [17:51] now 1080p MKV might be a different story [17:51] but i wonder....sine my TV is "only" 720P, does it still decode the whole stream or do I save some CPU because i'm running at a smaller resolution? [17:54] afaik it will just run it at 720p [17:54] and NTolerance why would you buy a tv that only does 720p :( [17:55] Shadow__X: got a minute or three? [17:55] i play games, games run at 720p [17:56] very little 1080p content out there other than blu-ray [17:56] hmm yeah but movies dont [17:56] it's good enough for me, i don't buy into the 1080p hype [17:56] what system [17:56] all of them [17:56] wii/360/ps3 [17:56] mrAshley, i saw the issue your having [17:56] dont know how to fix that [17:57] my ps3 runs at 1080p quite nicely. :) [17:57] 95% of ps3 games do not run at 1080p [17:57] NTolerance, if you get the small games that are like 10 dollars then run at 1080p on ps3 and 360 [17:57] :D [17:57] hmm yeah, not worth the extra 300-400 dollars for 1080p [17:57] Shadow__X: kthx. :) [17:58] i really love this whole thing though, go to a deal site like fatwallet, someone finds a good deal on a 720P TV [17:58] half the replies are like "omg it's only 720p, what's wrong with you!!!!" [17:58] heh [17:58] well i mean if i could get a tv cheap enough i would get 720- [17:58] p [17:59] mine is a 40" and it's debatable whether you get the benefits of higher resolution at that screen size [18:01] hmm it depends how close or far away you are [18:01] and your eyes [18:01] exactly, not worth $400 [18:02] $400 = PS3 [18:02] new mythbox [18:02] savings account [18:02] who knows [18:02] beer? [18:03] hmm [18:03] i see the point [18:03] Shadow__X: try this one then. I've got ubuntu8.04 and i just want to use and ir blaster.. i've configured the mythbuntu control centre.. should it just work, or should i have to dl firmware? any idea? [18:03] i might get a 24 inch montior that has pip and use that for tv and mon [18:03] and = an [18:04] mrAshley, you have to tell mytht backend to use it [18:04] instructions are on the wiki [18:04] which wiki? [18:04] i havnt used ir personlaly [18:04] mythtv.org [18:04] goto wiki there [18:04] does no one read anymore [18:04] :( [18:04] I've done 3 hours of reading. :P [18:05] good to hear [18:05] now read more [18:05] :D [18:05] P [18:05] >-C [18:06] any1 else figting with lirc after upgrading to 8.04? [18:07] * mrAshley is. [18:07] it was working just fine before upgrade but now i have nfc what broke [18:07] or how to fix it [18:07] squish102: Do you have a dmesg error? [18:07] and ive been reading for THREE weeks ;) [18:08] mrAshley i even have lircd running in debug mode and still cannot figure out the problem [18:08] do you have any error messages? [18:09] squish102: what remote do you have? [18:09] yes, but i don't know why i have error messages [18:09] what error message are you getting - and from where? [18:09] does irw give any output if you press buttons? [18:09] i have a firefly mini and initial setup was following wiki page [18:10] any of you guys tried the x11vnc service in mythbuntu control center, it doesn't work for me [18:10] not familiar with firefly mini =\ [18:10] it works for me [18:10] the vnc thing [18:10] strange, no x11vnc process was spawned when i tried it [18:10] did you install it a long time ago or recently? [18:11] NTolerance nothing through irw [18:11] dang [18:11] if you restart lirc does it give any errors? [18:11] what about dmesg ? [18:11] it is like it does not match the IR receiver to the lircd.conf remote [18:11] NTolerance, recently [18:11] install on mythtbuntu 8.04.1 [18:11] hmm, maybe i'm crazy, i had vino server running a few mins before i tried x11vnc [18:12] hmm [18:12] maybe [18:12] i will be back when i am in the room with the remote ;) [18:12] either way, i did the long and hard manual install, documented here http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5548895&postcount=58 [18:12] NTolerance i just run vncserver from the command line [18:13] that's no good for reboots [18:13] and change the xstartup, and hit it on port :2 [18:13] NTolerance yip, i have a couple use services that i put in rc.local [18:13] my mythbox is a true server, serving up all kinds of crap, everything needs to run as a service for me [18:13] but that is my hack [18:14] i think i resorted to doing it that way, because mine didnt work [18:14] the proper way [18:15] NTolerance, for a true server i would want vnc to give me a login screen and login to another session [18:15] not sharing whats on the screen [18:15] ^^ that is what mine does [18:16] i think sson i am going to need to get a hdvr :( [18:16] squish102, did you follow a tut [18:16] nope, maybe once i fix the other 10 things wrong, i will get back to vnc [18:17] squish102, howd you set it up [18:17] apt-get install vnc4server and then vncserver ;) [18:17] Shadow__X: to get into semantics, a true server wouldn't even have a GUI [18:17] but a true myth server should just give you access to what ever is on the TV [18:17] :D [18:18] NTolerance are you saying windows 2008 server is not a true server ;) [18:18] but yeah, a terminal server would give you an X login screen [18:18] not as true as a linux box :D [18:18] but hey, i love terminal server [18:18] NTolerance i thought your server was only a backend? [18:18] can't beat RDP, wish we had something like it on linux [18:18] it's everything [18:19] backend, frontend, upnp server, ampache, mpd, web, mysql, samba, nfs, backup storage, etc [18:19] well mine is an everything, but i dont want to interupt my tv viewing with a vnc session? [18:20] NTolerance i will take that, and double it :P (game server, ventrilo server, torrent server etc etc) [18:21] game server from home? [18:21] you got FIOS or something? [18:22] i like VNC on display zero because i have my laptop on a table in front of the TV, so i can put a web browser/youtube on the TV and control it from my laptop, no need to haul out the extra keyboard/mouse [18:22] hmm i think the next server i build will be an all in one box [18:22] thinking of quad core with like 4 gigs of ram [18:24] vino is so slow though, i'm running it through a gigabit lan and it's like i'm on a modem [18:30] all in one box? [18:31] mythtvback/frontend webserver mysql server fs and whatever else i can think of [18:31] i need a new server [18:32] you can be cool like me [18:32] but yeah, i like the mythtv-server workhorse, it keeps my windows machine clean [18:32] before i'd run the upnp and filesharing and other crap there [18:32] hmm yeah [18:32] i was thinking of starting with a dual core [18:32] now it's just strictly for games because the mythbox now does everything [18:32] because i have the cpu then moving to a quad [18:33] hopefully this LGA775 thing will stick around for a while [18:33] eh [18:34] maybe one more release imo [18:34] =\ [18:34] i fondly remember the socket 7 and slot 1 days [18:34] you'd go 5 years before you'd need a new mobo [18:34] now it's like every 8 months [18:39] eh [18:39] not 8 months [18:39] like 1.5 years [18:39] i exaggerated [18:39] but still [18:39] if you got a good mb to start with [18:49] hmm what linux player supports connecting to mythtv backend with commerical skip [18:55] totem and vlc don't do it? [18:57] i got my totem mythtv plugin working halfway yesterday [18:57] found the option to bind mysql to ethernet in mythcontrol center [18:57] i can now get the show list, but then it says it can't play myth:// addresses [18:57] i think it's because i'm using totem-xine [18:58] yeah or just install all the gstreamer plugins [18:58] to support playing mpeg2 [18:59] hmm, hope that will work, totem-gstreamer is worthless [18:59] ah how come [19:00] doesn't play dvds properly [19:00] ah [19:39] Shadow__X: [19:39] totem-gstreamer would always jump to some arbitrary spot on the DVD instead of starting from the beginning [19:39] could never get to the title menu [19:39] ah [19:39] hmm [19:39] does mythtv plugin work though [19:39] plus i couldn't get libdvdnav4 working w/ it [19:39] dunno, i might test it later [19:40] k [20:15] can anyone help me with a hauppauge-350 not picking up channels? [20:44] foxbuntu u around? [21:46] On my mac mini frontend I have stereo sound through the optical output working just fine, however when I play DTS/AC3 I get no sound. Anybody have surround sound working on a mac mini frontend?
