vadi2Hi, I have a test case where I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 and Ubuntu's GDM got broken. I reported a bug, but nobody's replied for several days now, and I don't know what to do - the laptop is hosed, it can't do anything. But if I try to reinstall / install again, won't I be later asked to provide more info on the bug etc?13:01
persiavadi2: Which bug?13:08
vadi2https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/25645213:08
persiavadi2: Join me in #ubuntu-bugs, and let's see if we can get this bug triaged (I don't know much about GDM)13:09
=== davmor2 is now known as davmor2_lunch
persiavadi2: As you see, that's often the best way if you need to reformat or reinstall :)13:14
vadi2Okay thanks, I'll go there directly in the future13:15
persiaDon't use it for every test bug (or people may stop listening), but it's good for test cases, etc. where you don't know what information you need to include.13:15
vadi2Will do13:16

asachi14:18
asacdaily liveCDs?14:18
asaccurrently usable? which link should I include in NM announcement?14:18
davmor2asac: is this the nm announcement that has gone out twice?14:22
asacdavmor2: right ;)14:22
asaci dont know why my blog duplicated the entry14:23
asaci removed the second psot and hope that planet.ubuntu notices this14:23
davmor2http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20080811/14:23
davmor2and then choose the 32bit or 64 bit cd14:23
asacdavmor2: ok. is NM 0.7 on those already?14:23
davmor2I'm about to test that it works on a standard install.14:24
asacit entered the archive on thursday... so i guess yes?14:24
davmor22 secs I'll tell you14:24
asacthx14:24
asacdavmor2: is there no link to "latest-daily" ?14:25
davmor2asac: there is14:25
asacanyway. i think ill just post the top level dir14:26
asace.g. http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/14:26
davmor2you can just link to the current folder but it is always going to be a day behind in reality14:26
asacdavmor2: ok. let me know if NM is on that disc please ;)14:27
asacthen i'll hit "save/send"14:27
davmor2booting now14:28
davmor2asac: hang on issue with live I'll ping you in a second14:33
davmor2that's okay seems to be working this time.  Phew14:35
davmor2asac: 20080811 has indeed got NM applet 0.7.014:36
davmor2is there anything else you need asac?14:38
asacdavmor2: good14:40
asacand the network-manager package likewise i guess?14:40
asacdavmor2: ?14:42
davmor2asac: everything with network-manager in is 0.7~~svn something14:43
asacok great14:43
davmor2np's14:43
stgraberasac: hmm, is it known that nm0.7 doesn't use /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf ?14:48
stgraberit breaks my setup here as I need to set some flags to get the right IP and force the domain name14:48
asacstgraber: i think its known ... though it just runs dhclient14:49
asacstgraber: please file a bug ;)14:49
asac(with 0.7 in the summary so i can better filter them out)14:49
stgraberasac: it uses dhclient but not /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf14:49
stgraber/sbin/dhclient -d -sf /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action -pf /var/run/dhclient-eth0.pid -lf /var/run/dhclient-eth0.lease -cf /var/run/nm-dhclient-eth0.conf eth014:50
stgraberit uses -cf /var/run/nm-dhclient-eth0.conf instead :(14:50
stgraberok, will file a bug14:50
asacwhats in the /var/run conf?14:50
persiaNote that /var/run isn't guaranteed across reboots: the source configuration is likely somewhere else.14:57
persiaErr, actually, specificially /var/run is guaranteed *not* to be stored across reboots.14:58
=== asac_ is now known as asac
stgraberasac: nm-dhclient-eth0.conf is empty16:35
stgraberasac: I'll file a bug report in an hour or so (when I have time)16:35
davmor2stgraber: can you quickly confirm bug 25698916:36
stgrabersure, looking at it16:38
stgraberoh, you have it on standard hardware too ?16:39
stgraberI thought it was a VM only one16:39
davmor2no16:40
davmor2two different sets of hw too16:40
asacstgraber: maybe try the latest from ~network-manager PPA16:42
asacits a mroe recent snapshot and probably has a bunch of bugs fixed16:42
stgraberok, confirmed16:42
stgraberok, will give it a try later16:44
asaccool16:50
davmor2asac: I don't have 3g so can't check :(16:58
asacdavmor2: you can check other connectivity things17:02
davmor2they seem alright 0.7.0 has been in for a few days and I've been smoke testing daily17:03
asaclike: static ip, dhcp with manual nameserver, dhcp,17:03
asacwireless17:03
asacand system-settings17:03
asac(which should work without applet)17:03
davmor2asac: not wireless I got to use ndis for mine and it's not connecting up at the moment but that could be an issue with ndis but wired works fine17:06
davmor2I can try a live cd in my wifes Ubuntu/dell and see it that works :)17:09
davmor2stgraber: can you also try an oem install of Kubuntu and see if it works fine till you restart for end user?17:14
davmor2bug 25163417:14
davmor2bot is dead :(17:14
jpdsNo, I don't think I set it to look up bug things.17:16
jpdsubot5: bug 25163417:19
davmor2shame that was a useful feature :)17:34
jpdsIt just needs to be properly configured.17:40
davmor2stgraber: ping21:12

davmor2yes21:36
pittidavmor2: please open a Terminal and do "ls -l /proc/$$/exe"21:37
pittidavmor2: what's the result, "/bin/bash"?21:37
davmor2/proc/7698/exe -> /bin/bash21:38
pittiyay21:38
pittithat means that this unionfs bug doesn't apply to aufs, and we can drop that mono hack21:38
pittidavmor2: thanks21:38
