pwnguinwas it ever?06:38
pwnguinlunch: it's been removed from debian too06:40
pwnguinprobably orphaned06:40
pwnguinlunch: plus, there's a report that it doesn't even instal06:41
pwnguinl06:42
lunchi installed it on the last distro of ubuntu. after i upgrade, it's not in the repos06:42
lunchsometime, software drives me nuts, what WAS working no longer work. they fixed something but introduce new problems. that goes for microsoft and linux06:43
bazhang!info tac-plus06:44
pwnguinsimply put, nobody was paying attention to it06:44
ubottuPackage tac-plus does not exist in intrepid06:44
pwnguin!info tac-plus gutsy06:44
ubottutac-plus (source: tac-plus): TACACS+ authentication daemon. In component universe, is extra. Version 1:4.0.4.alpha-14 (gutsy), package size 102 kB, installed size 316 kB06:44
lunchyup, that was the one i installed when i had gusty06:44
pwnguinim guessing tac-plus was broke in debian, and the maintainer didn't respond to a bug report06:45
pwnguinand after so many days06:45
pwnguinit was "orphaned"06:46
pwnguinand now it sits, waiting for someone to take up the cause06:46
pwnguinif you're willing to be that guy, ask in #ubuntu-motu for steps to take06:47
bazhanghttps://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tac-plus/+bugs06:47
pwnguinbecause clearly it affected you more than anyone else thus far =/06:47

DanaG"guidance-backends: /usr/share/python-support/guidance-backends/displayconfig-hwprobe.py" is just plain evil...07:12
DanaGIf you have a laptop with switchable GPUs, say goodbye to xorg.conf.07:12
DanaGIt just gets mysteriously WIPED OUT, without notice.07:12
DanaGBOOM!  Gone!07:13
DanaGSorry about that, but I had to deal with that on a friend's laptop today.07:13

scyrmaDanaG: I've got a desktop with two video cards .. could that explain why my xorg.conf got wiped out some time ago?07:56
DanaGscyrma:  That might.08:08
DanaGI had to dpkg-divert it.08:08
DanaGsudo dpkg-divert --add --local --rename /usr/share/python-support/guidance-backends/displayconfig-hwprobe.py08:09
DanaGAdding `local diversion of /usr/share/python-support/guidance-backends/displayconfig-hwprobe.py to /usr/share/python-support/guidance-backends/displayconfig-hwprobe.py.distrib'08:09
DanaGI'm going to file a bug on that, one of these days.08:35

gnomefreakhubuntu: they work here just fine13:46
hubuntuhelp.. please13:46
gnomefreakhubuntu: most likely its your set up13:46
hubuntuI think it may have something to do with the x configuration I have13:46
gnomefreakhubuntu: i would say yes13:46
hubuntubefore things worked fine under X but not on the terminal, with the update yesterday things have changed...13:47
gnomefreakbut you should beable to use keybord from menu to see if you can tweak it13:47
hubuntufrom within gnome you mean?13:47

Hobbseeinput hotplug stuff, i wonder.  i thought there was a bug about that somewhere.13:50
lamalexhaha13:50
hubuntuthings are better now, but still... no ened/home or pointer keys is very annoying (specially the up key which acts as Prt Scr, imagine the ammount of propossed screenshots...)13:51
hubuntuI'm testing the layout in the keyboard setting and indeed it seems to be VERY wrong...13:52

ForgeAusis there going to be a way in Kubuntu to keep kde3.5.9 as default? if kde4.x is going to be /kde (rather than /kde4)14:19
JontheEchidnaIn Intrepid there will be no way to have a KDE3 desktop14:21
ForgeAusthat sux :(14:25
Hobbseehmm.  my volume keys don't work anymore.14:25
ForgeAussounds like I can't go intrepid :(... I wanna keep my kde314:27
ForgeAusnot that I mind having the option of KDE4 I just don't want it to be the default...14:27
hubuntudoesn't Kubuntu Hardy with KDE 3.x 3 years support?14:30
Blaze_Boywhat are the main upgrades  in the next ubuntu ?14:32
ForgeAusI think so14:32
ForgeAusLTS14:32
ForgeAusreplaced Dapper since Dappers essentialyl expired14:32
ForgeAusyeah whats kewl and new in Intrepid?14:32
Blaze_Boyyeah any one will respond ?14:33
philipp Hi, I'm using intrepid. How may I complie the tc1100-wmi.ko-kernel-module from source and insmod it into the 2.6.26-5-generic kernel without getting a invalid module format?14:33
ForgeAusaside from kde4.1 if you using kubuntu14:33
philippI installed the 2.6.26-source via apt-get, made an make oldconfig, switched the tc1100-wmi module via make menuconfig from < > to <M> and then typed make drivers/misc/tc1100-wmi.ko14:34

DanaGhubuntu: still having broken pointer keys?15:38
DanaGSet keyboard layout in Gnome to "Generic->Evdev Managed Keyboard"15:38
hubuntuhave tweaked the x org file, but have not restarted x yet15:38
DanaGFor some reason, it's not longer using xorg.conf settings for keyboard; instead, it's using evdev.15:38
DanaG... and evdev does things... way differently (I'm not sure how), and thus uses a different layout setting.15:39
hubuntuok, should it work right after the change or after restarting gnome?15:39
DanaGShould work immediately.15:39
hubuntuit work partially15:40
hubuntubut the up key still acts as PrtScr15:40
DanaGOdd.15:41
hubuntueverything else works...15:41
hubuntubesides the up key15:41
hubuntuBUt hey, thanks... It's good to have the left, right and down arrow back :)15:41
hubuntuI'm going to restart X and see what ahåppens15:42
hubuntubrb15:42
hubuntuDanaG, it works :)15:51
DanaGCool.15:51
DanaGI wish they'd put that in the channel topic... and perhaps have update-manager suggest it (or do it automatically).15:51
hubuntuSo I made 2 changes: 1. Removed the XkbVariant line from xorg.conf and did the Edev Man Keyb trick you gave me15:53
hubuntuis this common in Intrepid?15:53
DanaGI think so.15:53
hubuntuI saw that the XkbVariant was not present in previous versions of the xorg file, so I just trashed it and it seemed to have fixed the issue15:54
DanaGThey must've changed it so that the default keyboard uses evdev, by adding a new HAL FDI file.15:54
hubuntuwell thanks peps :)15:54
hubuntuthanks so much DanaG for helping me out here15:54
hubuntuI love this community15:54
hubuntu:)15:54
hubuntuok.. gotta go back to real life15:55
hubuntupeace15:55
FinnishHmm, update has downloaded 2.6.26.5-kernel a few times, but after reboot it still says its 2.6.26.4-kernel?15:59
