tgm4883_laptopyea,02:28
tgm4883_laptopI just fired off another email to you02:29
pisaniah right on. figured i'd hop in and see if that made sense about gpl stuff.02:29
tgm4883_laptopyea, if possible a COPYRIGHT file in the tarball would be better02:29
tgm4883_laptopin order to get it in the repos, i'd have to add one anyway02:29
tgm4883_laptopthats one of the only reasons to EVER change the .orig.tar.gz02:30
pisaniNot a problem. I can patch that up tonight and publish it.02:30
tgm4883_laptopsweet.  I'll start getting some code together to package it.  I'll probably have to add a GUI frontend or make it accessible from MCC02:30
tgm4883_laptopif I make a frontend i'll shoot it back to you02:31
pisanisweet.02:31
tgm4883_laptopit will be python though, as superm1 cracks a hard whip around here02:31
pisaninot a problem... but we may definitely include the frontend in the next release of mythdora then.02:32
pisaniQuestion for you. Is mythubuntu an official ubuntu off-shoot? I mean are you guys funded from the same family then?02:32
tgm4883_laptopnot funded.  But IIRC we are a blessed spin off02:33
tgm4883_laptopsuperm1 would be the man to ask that.  He's the project lead02:33
tgm4883_laptoperr, dictator02:33
pisaniCool. Just curious.  I know ubuntu has such strength because of the model that it's in02:33

tgm4883_laptopsweet02:34
tgm4883_laptopsec02:34
pisaniNew installer. Moved some things around. Trying to make it not so janky...02:35
tgm4883_laptoppisani, if your interested,  We just added this piece of software for troubleshooting.  It grabs various logs and uploads them to pastebin.com and presents the user with a link02:35
tgm4883_laptophttps://code.edge.launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/mythbuntu/mythbuntu-log-grabber02:35
tgm4883_laptopyou might already have something like that though02:36
pisaniwe don't... we've tossed the idea around for something similiar02:36
tgm4883_laptopI think it needs a small tweak for V2, but IMHO it's ok02:37
tgm4883_laptopits accessible from the frontend which is kinda nice02:37
pisaniThat is nice. We've got a few add-ons in the frontend.. and the next version will have some more.02:38
tgm4883_laptopanyway i'm going to go grab some food (i'm starving ;) ) but IIRC all of our code is GPL.  Was there anything else I could help you with?02:38
pisaniAs for uploading logs.. we don't do that type of things cause there is really only 2 of providing the support for the masses.02:38

f4hyHey everyone. I need to trouble shoot some problems. I just installed off the CD. My tv signal looks terrible, it is low quality and flickers. Also i am having an issue when playing a video file it says "loading" then hangs04:30
f4hyPlaying a video file directly with `vlc video.avi` worked just fine04:30
f4hyI am using the lastest x86 mythbuntu, a older winfast card, and an ATI video card (with the binary blob drivers installed.)04:32
f4hyAny help diagnosing the problem or pointers to where to look for these problems would be appreciated.04:32

Shadow__Xati again is a pain in the ass working04:41
hadsI have no idea what the 110 is.04:41
Shadow__Xesp the new driver04:41

f4hyShadow__X, the driver is installed and the screen works fine, TV output shows stuff, although staticy, does not indicate a video drive issue to me04:41
Shadow__Xif it doesnt play by itself in mplayer than xv pro isnt working04:41
foxbuntujeeves__, what do you mean change things on the cards?04:42
f4hyShadow__X, alright so what is xv then? is there an argument for mplayer to use x11 then?04:42

tgm4883_laptopjeeves__, are you talking about sasc ng?04:43
foxbuntujeeves__, yeah, well just checking, that pretty much means no support04:43
jeeves__tgm4883_laptop, sasc ng?04:43
rhpot1991sasc-ng04:43
Zinnrhpot1991: sasc-ng is a method to ILLEGALLY receive cable or satellite broadcasts via a fake software dvb-s/c device.  It is forbidden from being discussed in #ubuntu-mythtv, #ubuntu-mythtv-dev, #mythtv-users, and #mythtv.  If you would like to learn more about it, please refer to it's developers and keep any and all discussions about it there.04:43
tgm4883_laptopAFAIK, changing things on cards isn't something that is banned04:44

tgm4883_laptopin fact.  sasc-ng is so bad, that we have told Zinn to tell the person that said sasc-ng that it is banned whenever someone says sasc-ng04:45

Shadow__Xwhat card are you using04:46
f4hyShadow__X, an old shitty winfast card04:47

f4hyShadow__X, so if TV does not work, I blame that, but video files didnt work so i was concerned04:48
f4hyShadow__X, oh, 9600XT04:49
Shadow__Xhmm04:49
Shadow__Xto be honest nvidia is the easiest to setup04:49
f4hyI understand that, on this computer here I have an nvidia card04:49
f4hybut in the box running myth it is ati04:50
f4hymythbuntu can not only support nvidia.04:50
Shadow__Xno it doesnt04:52
Shadow__Xbut for best results04:52
Shadow__Xdo mplayer file -vo x1104:52
Shadow__Xthat should work good04:52
f4hyalright great thanks ill give that a shot04:53
Shadow__Xmhmh04:53
f4hyShadow__X, didn't make a difference04:56
Shadow__Xhow do you know the recording doesnt suck04:56
f4hyShadow__X, no the file is copied over onto the samba share, I am not trying to do anything from a TV04:57
Shadow__Xhmm04:57
f4hyShadow__X, I just cant get regular video playback04:57
Shadow__Xso vlc plays it no issue04:57
Shadow__X?04:57
f4hyShadow__X, the files play with vlc 'filename'04:57
f4hyyes04:57
f4hybut mplayer from the command line does not work04:57
Shadow__Xwhat does it do04:57
f4hyit acts like it is playing, gives a progress bar on the command line04:58
Shadow__Xhmm04:58
Shadow__Xdoes it play using totem04:58
f4hylike the correct out put you would get if it worked, just no video04:58
Shadow__Xdid you do the command the way i said04:59
f4hyyes with the -vo -x1104:59
f4hythe machine is running in the other room, I suppose I should set it so I can VNC to it so I may trouble shoot without leaving the room04:59
Shadow__Xtry -vo x1104:59
f4hyalright ill go try that05:00
f4hyShadow__X, that works05:08
f4hy-vo x1105:08
f4hythats displayed it05:08
f4hyso for video file play back I can just edit the command mythbutu uses and tack on -vo x11 right?05:10
Shadow__Xwell in mythtv you can tell it to use x1105:11
Shadow__Xwhat cpu do you have05:11
Shadow__Xand does your tv tuner have a mpeg encoder05:11
f4hyAMD 2600+05:11
f4hythe tuner does not have an encoder I dont think05:11
Shadow__Xheh05:11
Shadow__Xto be honest if you use it that way05:12
Shadow__Xyour comp is going to be taxed just watching tv05:12
Shadow__Xthe tuner is going to use cpu05:12
Shadow__Xand so is actually watching something05:12
Shadow__Xbut if you want to try it go ahead05:12
Shadow__Xits on the front end setup05:12
f4hythats fine, its not like that box will be doing anything else05:12
Shadow__Xby taxed i mean it might not beable to keep up05:12
Shadow__Xand that would be fixed by just using an nvidia card05:13
f4hyor getting the ATI card to work05:13
Shadow__Xagain05:13
Shadow__Xas i said earlier05:13
Shadow__Xthats a ati driver issue05:13
Shadow__Xlol05:13
Shadow__Xjust dont listen to me and put on your dunce cap05:14
f4hywell, i have wrestled with ATI drivers in the past05:14
Shadow__Xi have an ati card05:14
Shadow__Xi am using the new drivers05:14
Shadow__Xthere is a bug in them05:14
Shadow__Xunless your a ati dev than you can fix it05:14
Shadow__Xusing x11 is bypassing the issue by using your cpu05:14
f4hywell 2 years ago I used ATI for everything05:14
Shadow__Xnot a good solution05:14
Shadow__Xthings have changed05:14
f4hyright, I dont want to do the x11 bypassing if i dont have to05:14
f4hywell I can just use the drivers from 2 years ago then, why not?05:15
Shadow__Xwell unless you find something else05:15
Shadow__Xyou have to05:15
Shadow__Xi dont know whta they supported05:15
f4hynot if I have a copy of those older drivers05:15
Shadow__Xi have xv working on my card05:15
Shadow__Xits a x1400 but05:15
Shadow__Xi get screen corruption in mythtv and in wine05:15
Shadow__X:D05:15
Shadow__Xthanks ati05:15
f4hywell i ran things just fine on that card 2 years ago, I am just resurecting that machine to become a media box05:16
f4hybut the card in there was able to do beryl and such, which needs composite05:16
Shadow__Xdid you ever watch videos05:16
f4hyya, it could do anything05:16
Shadow__Xthat used xgl05:16
Shadow__Xthats different05:16
f4hyit was able to watch DVDs etc05:17
Shadow__Xi used to do beryl as well05:17
Shadow__Xagain05:17
Shadow__Xxgl05:17
f4hyhow are videos different?05:17
f4hywhich also played fine on it...05:17
f4hywhat is this xv?05:17
Shadow__Xxgl is diff then aiglx05:17
f4hyoh so it needs aiglx05:17
f4hyyes that has always been a problem with the ATI drivers05:18
f4hymyth requires aiglx??05:18
Shadow__Xmyth requires a cpu and a vid card05:19
Shadow__Xlinux requires somewhat decent drivers05:20
Shadow__Xwhich is your issue05:20
f4hywell you just explained how video playback and everything should be fine with GLX so then why is ati drivers a problem05:20
Shadow__Xno05:20
Shadow__Xi said you had beryl and all that working on xgl05:20
Shadow__Xi used to do that as well05:20
Shadow__Xthe new ati drivers support aiglx05:21
f4hywell i was able to play videos05:21
Shadow__Xand compiz fusion05:21
Shadow__Xbut there are bugs in them05:21
Shadow__Xand it doesnt support older hardware well05:21
f4hywell why not just disable AIGLX?05:21
Shadow__Xor just the open source drivers05:21
Shadow__Xor buy nvidia05:21
Shadow__Xto be honest spending 30 bucks would take all your issues away in 4 minutes05:21
f4hywell if i were to use 2 year old closed source drivers, when I did not have those issues and was able to play video just fine...05:22
f4hywell I am not going to spend $3005:22
Shadow__Xthen have fun05:22
Shadow__Xlet me know if you find a suitable solution other than using x1105:22
f4hyI will, I just wanted to know exactly what the issue is. What is the issue with the ATI drivers that prevents this from working. You never told me what xv is05:23
f4hyand how does the aiglx bug relate to mythbuntu?05:23
Shadow__Xthe bug causes screen corruption05:23
Shadow__Xlook up xV05:24
Shadow__Xx video extension05:24
Shadow__Xit uses hardware instead of software05:24
Shadow__Xusing x11 uses cpu05:25
f4hywell thanks for all your help05:27
Shadow__Xmhm05:27
marlhi folks, im trying to get mythtv to play back some .avi videos that i hav downlaoded, i can play them fine with vlc on windoz, but all i can get from mythtv frontend is the audio, can anyone point me in the rite direction to start trying to diagnose the problem?15:11
marlor is there a way to transfer all the codecs i hav on my windoz machines to mythtv video?15:13
NTolerancemarl: you probably need w32codecs and assorted gstreamer packages15:21
NTolerancehttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu15:22
NTolerancealso, try to play any files using totem, it will prompt you to download and install certain codecs automatically15:24

marllol, typical, kids just starting watching a recoding, will hav to wait till they hav finished that be4 testing :(15:27
marlanyone know if there is a way to get mythfront end to run uncer windoz? to allow playback of live tv?15:32
marli know there is a couple of win32 frontends, but only one with livetv and is experimental, was wandering if there was a cygwin option or something?15:34
jphillipmarl the mythtv player has a version that does livetv15:34
jphillipI haven't checked the native windows frontend recently, but its supposidly in reasonably good shape now15:35
marlwhat is the native windos frontend called?15:37
marlthe mythtv player says that using livetv, may hang the mythbackend, anyone comment on this happening?15:37
sabhainisn't there something called MythWin?  Might want to google it .. I think it was a sourceforge project15:39
sshirleyHi all. This is mostly a general Linux question but related to MythTV. Occasionally during certain operations in MyhTV (pressing 'next song' a number of times in MythMusic, or stopping a slideshow in MythGallery, etc)., MythTV will totally crash. Mind you, all these actions are performed with the remote control, so that might have something to do with it (as the service fails to start yet it still functions). Is there anywhere on 16:04

marlok, totem will play my .avi files from the ubuntu desktop, but mythtv frotnend will only play the audio (it is set to use mplayer at present) is there a way to get mplayer to use the codecs that totem has, or is it easier to set totem as the video playback program within mythtv?17:43
Shadow__Xmarl try playing the files in mplayer17:50
Shadow__Xyou might want to install gstreamer plutins17:51
marlmplayer says, error opening/initalising the selected video_out (-vo) device17:56
marlwhich gstreamer plug set should i install if i search i get about20-30 packages17:57
marlgstreamer0.10-plugins-base is already installed17:57
Shadow__Xah so your issue isnt with codecs17:57
Shadow__Xwhat video card do you have17:58
marlan ati card17:58
Shadow__Xheh17:58
Shadow__Xof course17:58
Shadow__Xwhat version ati card do you have17:58
marlhad problems originally with mythfrontend, but got them sorted17:58
Shadow__Xwhat problems17:58
marlVERY bad live tv playback about 1 frame a sec, and same with recorded playback17:59
Shadow__Xah17:59
marlinstalled the ati bin drivers, and that sorted the problem17:59
Shadow__Xwhat version video card do you have17:59
marlnow live tv and recording playback is fine17:59
Shadow__Xthen if you told mplayer to play files18:00
Shadow__Xtell it to use x11 ace18:00
marlhow do i do that?18:00
marlsetup/player settings?18:00
Shadow__Xwhere did you tell it to use mplayer18:00
marlits the default entery in mythfrontend, setup/player settings, default video player18:01
Shadow__Xdidnt you say you set it up to use mplayer18:01
Shadow__Xso your saying when you try and play it in mythtv front end it doesnt work18:01
marli said it was set to use mplayer, that was the default setting that mythfrontend had after installing it18:02
marlyup18:02
Shadow__Xtell it to use18:02
Shadow__Xmplayer -xo x1118:03
marl-vo x11 worked thanks :)18:21

MythbuntuGuest83I wonder if anyone can help me with a sound issue? I'm new to Mythbuntu so go easy :)21:07

MythbuntuGuest83Thanks guys :) I turned up the volumes to 100 in the myth frontend. Do I need to go into the linux and do the same?21:15
GreybeardI may not be interpreting the repositories correctly, but it seems to me that http://weeklybuilds.mythbuntu.org/mythbuntu-trunk/ubuntu/dists/hardy/Release lists a bunch of empty Packages files21:33
