Whiz2hi. i just recently installed xubuntu on my server, and i'm trying to change the display to something higher than 800X600 (cuz windows are being cut off at the bottom) but in display it doesn't give me any options higher than that. is there a way to force it? (I know the video supports it)01:07
TheSheepWhiz2: try setting up your card and monitor properly with 'sudo dsiaplyconfig-gtk', you might need to add the sync ranges of your monitor if it's detected wrong01:12
Whiz2next question is how do I get my computer to allow me to login remotely using a remote viewer such as VNC?01:18
Whiz2and I will know if that solution works in just a moment01:19
Whiz2uh oh... the display disabled itself!01:22

MrNazsurely epiphany would be a better default browser choice for xubuntu than firefox? by comparison epiphany is lightweight and uber fast11:05
MrNazfirefox on xubuntu stands out like a cod in a tank full of goldfish11:06
=== thunderstruck is now known as gnomefreak
TheSheepMrNaz: epiphany has several problems, including missing people's favorite plugins11:53
TheSheepMrNaz: it also misses spellchecking in textareas11:53
MrNazTheSheep missing plugins i dont think is a showstopper... xubuntu seems to favor lightweightness over featurefullness12:03
MrNazthunar vs azureus, abi word vs openoffice etc12:03
MrNaztransmission vs azureus i should say12:03
TheSheepthere are more lightweight torrent clients than transmission12:04
MrNazyea but you get my point12:05
TheSheepMrNaz: epiphany is my browser of choice, I use it everyday, still I have to have firefox installed12:05
MrNazpersonally, i use epiphany now over FF, which i've thought was bloated since 1.012:05
TheSheepMrNaz: sure it is, but that's what people want12:05
MrNazyea i guess12:06
TheSheepMrNaz: web browser is the #1 application on lightweight installations12:06
MrNaztrue12:07
TheSheepplus, epiphany is not that light12:07
MrNazi guess my gripe is just with wanting to punish FF for being so bloody stupid12:07
MrNazfirefox is atrophying away all the benefits of open source apps12:08
TheSheepahaha12:08
MrNazthat lightweight feel, the elegant functional perfection that it used to have in its pre-1.0 days12:08
MrNazepiphany is what ff should have become... if you want multiple profiles and a zillion configs? get the suite12:09
TheSheepepiphany and firefox have pretty different goals. and Epiphany has been in limbo since quite a time12:10
MrNazyea i didnt know it was galleon until recently12:10
TheSheepthey could at least *copy* some well tested solutions from ff -- asking to save password *after* you have successfully logged, spellchecking, user control over adblock, etc.12:11
MrNazyes, i do miss those12:11
MrNazesp spellchecking... i'm trying to force myself to touch type properly which leads to lots of typos that i often miss12:12
TheSheepI also miss closing tabs with middle click, but that probably conflicts with its gui philosophy12:13
MrNazits kinda embarrassing when your post in a forum is a rant about someone else's bad grammar and then you mistype some simple word heh12:13
TheSheepthat's why you don't rant about bad grammar12:14
MrNazi do, when its bad enough12:25
MrNazmypet peeve is when people get multiple there/their/they're instances mixed12:26
MrNazi dont mind one, but when something like "There having they're lunch over their" i just cant handle it12:26
