Fieldy... that's scary00:00
Alex135ya it is00:00
Fieldyi'm wondering if that upgrade was pulled back, i saw it yesterday, didn't do it, now today, it's not in upgrades00:00
Alex135it possibly was00:01
Alex135for the same reason as i just described00:01
ErtainSo would you suggest that I go to the previous release?00:01
Alex135im not sure00:01
Alex135let me get my system up to date first and ill let you know00:02
Alex135(could take a bit)00:02
Alex135yours could be a simple fix00:02
Alex135but i dont know00:02
Alex135im just giving my warning from what im having to go through right now00:02
Alex135somehow openGL forgot itself aswell00:03
Alex135tried to reinstall my Nvidia drivers00:03
Alex135BAM no GUI when i restart X00:04
Alex135didn't configure properly00:04
Alex135thats when i found out about things being screwd up00:04
Fieldystill waiting for newer versions of nvidia drivers before mine is supported, i'm quite surprised it's not in yet00:04
Alex135Fieldy: not sure...00:05
ErtainYeah, with a previous kernel I had to update the restricted video drivers.00:06
Alex135*sigh* well no going back now, i just cleard my disk for my new install... sure hope i backed up everything properly that i needed00:11
Alex135(what sucks is that i couldn't find a cd lying around for this, so i was forced to use one of my DVD's to burn Kubuntu on... i really needed to get this done right away... but i wasted a DVD in the process :P00:13
ErtainCurse that waste.00:13
Alex135Linux is never a waste00:13
Alex135nomater what size of cd/dvd you install it from :p00:14
Alex135(besides the things are dirt cheap anyway)00:15
eamonim trying to create a new folder on my storage hdd but when i right click the create folder isnt highlighted?00:16
Alex135your sure you have write permission?00:17
Alex135(are you root)00:17
Alex135in the drives directory try: sudo mkdir <folder name here>00:17
eamonok hold up this could take a while00:18
Alex135lol00:18
Alex135k00:18
dwidmannAlex135: using a DVD isn't necessarily a waste, if you buy from the right place, preferably in bulk, they cost the same, and you get faster read/write with DVDs than CDs00:20
Alex135dwidmann: that is true... but you use a lot more... i would think it would be a better use if all the packages i normally install in a Kubuntu install that arn't on the disk were on there and auto installed aswell)00:21
Sixofour|Sleepreally, does konqeuror not know what tabs are?00:21
Sixofour|Sleeptab browseing00:21
Sixofour|Sleepetc00:21
Alex135Sixofour|Sleep: ya it does... why?00:21
Sixofour|Sleepits opening every link in a new windows00:21
dwidmannSixofour|Sleep: that's configurable behaviour :)00:22
Alex135Sixofour|Sleep: check in the options menu's, you should find something00:22
Sixofour|Sleepi want middle mouse to = new tab?00:22
dwidmannSixofour|Sleep: not sure about that, but double click will do the job ...00:23
Sixofour|Sleephow can you double click something that opens a new windows on click?..that will give me two windows00:23
dwidmannah, see, that's the kind of answer you get from being vague, I took it into a different context.00:24
Sixofour|Sleepif firefox wasn't a profile tard thsi wouldn't be an issue :(00:24
Sixofour|Sleepfirefox has made me build 14 profiles, because it likes to erase them when i close00:24
Sixofour|Sleepbecause the programmers hate linux00:24
dwidmannSixofour|Sleep: settings -> configure konqueror, Web Behavior tab, several options there, more if you click "advanced options"00:26
superradi need to reformat my hdd to change the partitions, could I just copy my ubuntu install to a backup drive by doing sudo cp -a /*location of ubuntu root* /*location of backupdrive* from a live cd then reformat then copy it back to the new partition in the same way then edit fstab and grub?00:35
fujisan_Extract with “tar -xvjf prism-0.8-linux.tar.bz2 -C /opt ” <-- how do i do this in kubuntu?00:36
dwidmannsuperrad: should work, why not just back up the partition to an image with something like dd instead though, one file to manage instead of hundreds of thousands00:36
superraddwidmann: i've read the dd man page but I still couldnt understand what commands i'd need to do00:37
lnx112300:38
dwidmannsuperrad: an example of how to use it, assuming the partition you want to back up is /dev/sda5 and the drive you want to put to store the backup on is mounted on  "dd if=/dev/sda5 of=/media/backup/partition_sda5_backup"00:39
dwidmannsuperrad: might also want to specify  bs=409600:40
superraddwidmann: where would bs=4096 go on the command?00:41
dwidmannsuperrad: anywhere after the "dd" at the beginning of the line00:41
dwidmannsuperrad: specifying bs=4096 forces it to use a block size of 4096 bytes ... may speed up the transfer as opposed to not using it00:42
superradso it would be something like "dd bs=4096 if=/dev/sda5 of=/media/backup....? what does the bs=4096 mean?00:43
superradah right thanks, i'll give that a go now00:44
dwidmannsuperrad: keep in mind that the place where you back up this partition will need to be large enough to hold that entire partition00:46
superradyeah i've borrowed a 160GB usb hdd and my root and home folders only come to 8GB00:47

Sixofour|Sleepi'm installing the proprietary02:19
dwidmannSixofour|Sleep: really? I've heard that the open source drivers actually do very well and even have 3d support with at least some of the older Radeon series cards ...02:20
Sixofour|Sleepi'm trying these first though02:20

I installed packages on Kubuntu but there seems to be no wizards, nothing to help one configure this. While I can certainly manage a shell, I'm afraid the sysadmin at the school where this is supposed to be installed can't. Any suggestions?03:01

MrKenniegecko_: can you paste the pastebin url here so we can see?05:34
gecko_http://paste.ubuntu.com/41445/05:34
* Dr_willis points out that its a VERY good idea to poweroff/UNPLUG the machine from the wall.. befor removing/adding cards05:34
gecko_that ?05:34
MrKennielol05:34
MrKenniegecko_: yes, thanks05:34
Sixofour|Sleepi get no display if nvidia is loaded before the ati card [like if i put nvidia in the slot before the ati card instead iof after]05:35
Fingersomeone suggested sudo nautilus but it returns a command not found05:35
Sixofour|Sleepslot one is my ethernet, 2 is ati and 3 is nvidia05:35
Dr_willisFinger,  thats the gnome file manager05:35
_2Finger that would be a "bad" idea for a gnome user.05:35
Sixofour|Sleepthats the only way i will get a display while also having nvidia in my machine05:35
_2Finger kdesudo konqueror    would be one way for a kde user05:35
Dr_willisi tend to use 'mc' as my root user file manager. :)  that way i can tell at that its the root file maanger05:35
Dr_willisIve seen to many 'oops'  in here from people using the what they thought was the  normal file manager when it was actually being ran as root05:36
Sixofour|Sleepdo you understand what i mean MrKennie ?05:36
_2Finger i would still sujest     sudo mv file newname05:36
Dr_willisIf you do such root file manager stuff - You may want to set the root users themes to use some BRIGHT RED colors. :)05:36
_2replacing file and newname accordingly05:36
MrKenniegecko_: cat /proc/asound/cards in konsole, do you get any results?05:37
Sixofour|SleepDr_willis: can you set up kubuntu so that any app or konsole in root is bright red?05:37
Sixofour|Sleepin sudo i mean05:37
Dr_willisSixofour|Sleep,  you have to run the theme tools as root and set the theme for the root user. like i said.05:37
MrKennieSixofour|Sleep: remember you xorg.conf probably still has the fglrx entry in it05:37
Sixofour|Sleepspiffy05:37
_2!kdesu | Sixofour|Sleep05:38
ubot5Sixofour|Sleep: In KDE, use « kdesudo <program> » (Gutsy) or « kdesu <program> » (Feisty and earlier) to run graphical applications with root privileges when you have to. Never just use "sudo"! (See http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo to know why)05:38
Sixofour|Sleepbut how does that effect wether i get a display from the card?05:38
Sixofour|Sleepi don't even see "grub" or "dell" load05:38
Sixofour|Sleepturn power on, screen stays black05:38
Fingerthe ksudo command worked fine05:38
MrKennieSixofour|Sleep: eh, maybe your nvidia is dead?05:38
Sixofour|Sleepkubuntu sees it fine05:38
Sixofour|Sleepeven gave it a nice driver05:38
_2!kdesu > Finger05:39
ubot5Finger, please see my private message05:39
Sixofour|Sleep"nv"05:39
Sixofour|Sleepif it was dead kubuntu wouldn't see it yeah?05:39
Sixofour|Sleepi think ym system expects ati and if it doesn't get that it boots w3ith no display at all05:39
Dr_willisSixofour|Sleep,  perhaps.. perhaps not...05:39
MrKennieSixofour|Sleep: so lets see, completely removing the ati card and plugging your monitor into the nvidia card you get nothing?05:39
Dr_willisive had video cards that die and loose some of the video out/colors.05:40
Sixofour|Sleepyes, nothing, pluging monitor with only nvidia = nothing, pluging monitor in nvidia before ati = nothing, pluging monitor in ati ebfore nvidia = works05:40
Sixofour|Sleepi have 3 pci slots loaded in order, 1 2 and 305:41
MrKennieis the nvidia in the same slot as the ati when it was in?05:41
gecko_MrKennie: http://paste.ubuntu.com/41447/      thats what i got from it.. that help any?  i feel so useless.05:41
Sixofour|Sleepyep, and the ati is in slot two now [it was slot 3]05:41
MrKenniegecko_: that's great, looks like it's loaded and recognised.05:41
Sixofour|Sleepis there a tool i can use to diagnose my nvidia card to see if its functioning properly?05:41

Sixofour|SleepSo, what drivers do i need for an Nvidia Geforce FX5200?05:48
Dr_willis!nvidia05:49
ubot5For Ati/NVidia/Matrox video cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto05:49
Dr_willisi would run that hardware manager tool and let it install them.05:49
Dr_willisI would guess most likely the nvidia-glx-legacy drivers05:49
Sixofour|Sleepyou know that lnik is two years old iirc05:49
gecko_yup05:50
Dr_willisit still has good info..  My ubuntu system asks to install the proper nvidia drivers when i first booted it up. Use the hardware manager tool is the best way05:50
Sixofour|Sleepit did for me, i clicked enable05:50
MrKenniegecko_: type sudo asoundconf list05:51
Dr_willisor take a chance and install 'sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-legacy'05:51

Dr_willismixed1234,  most creative cards work.. avoide the x-fi card however. its to new and drivers are not good yet.05:54

Dr_willisI like my older audigy2zs card. Not sure what new cretive cards has out now05:56
gecko_MrKennie: gah, nothing..05:56
MrKenniegecko_: ok, I was worried about a couple of error messages I saw in the dmesg output. Let me investigate that I minute05:57

Dr_willisthat is old.. :)05:57

Dr_willisI splurged years ago on the high end cretive cards.. and they have outlasted like 5 machines05:58

Dr_willismixed1234,  i would do some googling  befor buying - to be sure what chipset any card is using..06:01
Dr_willisI would avoide the x-fi's at this time06:01

MrKenniegecko_: the mixer controls, are they mostly up and do any of them have MM at the bottom?06:01
MrKenniegecko_: you can press the key, M to mute and unmute channels and the arrow keys will raise and lower the levels06:02
Dr_willismixed1234,  if you eliminaate all the x-fi cards.. that just leaves like 2 cards.... out of the 1206:02

Dr_willismixed1234,  now x-fi MIGHT be working better under linunx now.. but I dont know. that for a fact.06:03

Sixofour|Sleepi think my card jsut stright up doesn't support 3d acceleration..even though it ran oblivion o.O07:00
_2there is a 'vesa' driver   like there is a  'vga' driver     neither are a card07:00
mrksbrdwhats the purpose if running 4 cards if your only using one monitor07:00

Dr_willisI would expect there to be a bios setting to disable the onboard video and select pci as the primary video card07:04
Sixofour|Sleepthere probably is, but ive never even seen the bios.07:04
mrksbrdi have never heard of 4 onboard video chips built into one motheboard07:04
Sixofour|Sleepmrksbrd do you speak english?07:04
_2mrksbrd heh07:05
Dr_willisi would think a good look at the bios settings may be helpfull07:05
Sixofour|Sleepdoes grub have an option to load the bios?07:05
Dr_willisof course NOT. bios is befor grub even loads07:05
mrksbrd[02:03] <Sixofour|Sleep> you can't remove chips from the mother board.................this is what i am comenting on07:05
Sixofour|Sleepi used to be able to load bios at the windows screen07:05
mrksbrdi speak perfectly good english07:05
Sixofour|Sleepnow THAT is odd07:05
_2mrksbrd and it's only three cards/chips   one on board two (ati and nv) added07:06
Dr_willisBios 'key' is to be hit BEFOR any of the os loads.07:06
mrksbrdif your going to be a wise ass then figure it out yourself07:06
Sixofour|Sleepmrksbrd ive already explained one isn't a card one is an intel [intel is ALWAYS an onboard chip], and the other is an nvidia and ati07:06
Sixofour|Sleepthe nvidia will not work if the ATi is not in the second slot07:07
Sixofour|Sleepdon't ask why it just won't07:07
_2intel is not always an onboard chip...   i have an intel vidio card07:07

Dr_willisOmoikane,  i would try a different torrent client07:07
OmoikaneReally?07:07
Sixofour|Sleepi am thinking ATi is better on Linux, Nvidia is like WHOA pain.07:07
OmoikaneIt was working so well07:07
Dr_willisOmoikane,  err... yes... I hate deluge07:08

_2i'll stay out of this.07:08
Sixofour|Sleeplol07:08
MrKennie_2: because fglrx locks up his system07:08
Dr_willisNo idea on that.. ktorrent has a plugin to import other torrents/clients.. or just give ktorrent the .torrent  file and point it to the right data directory i guess..07:08
Sixofour|Sleepthat also07:08
_2MrKennie i know.07:09
Sixofour|Sleepand everyone was talking about how easy nvidia was to use07:09
Dr_willisScrewed up hardware on your end.. does not prove a problem on the kubuntu end.07:09
dwidmannSixofour|Sleep: it is ... for most people.07:09
MrKennieSixofour|Sleep: firstly, determine why you can't boot with just your nvidia card, try different slots. When you have solved that then you can persue the nvidia-glx issue.07:09
Sixofour|Sleepi did MrKennie07:09
Sixofour|SleepI tried the Nvidia in both slots07:10
Dr_willisI would suggest you attempt to check out the bios items and disable the onboard if at all possible,07:10
MrKennieSixofour|Sleep: solve it?07:10
Sixofour|Sleepi solved it when i put an ATi in slot two yeah07:10
MrKenniesomething is wrong, a bios setting or something. you need to find out what.07:10
Sixofour|Sleeplots of stuff is wrong, i get 5000 DBUS errors when i start07:11
Sixofour|Sleeplots of other stuff, etc etc07:11
Sixofour|Sleepi wouldn't know where to begin in the bios07:11
Sixofour|Sleepas ive never seen a bios07:11
Dr_willisbegin by gettting to the bios.. :)  and disabling the onboard video. is the normal thing to do.. if its doable07:11

MrKennieyou write a new kernel?07:47
kuresunalol07:47
kuresunaxD07:48
Sixofour|Sleepwell, i went from 74GB down to 59ish GB07:48
Sixofour|Sleepit was a few GB i know07:48
Dr_willisso by 'configuring' you mean 'removed packages' ?07:48
Sixofour|Sleepadding all kinds of shit, editing fourtyleven files07:48
Sixofour|Sleepgetting wine and steam to work07:48
kuresunaSixofour|Sleep gettings steam to work under wine dosn't require any special editing07:49
[pyro]Sixofour|Sleep: whats your problem?07:49
Dr_willisI am amazed at the stuff people do to get games working...07:49
Sixofour|Sleepok pyro, heres my story07:49
[pyro]hmm07:49
MrKenniegood wasn't it?07:50
Sixofour|SleepI had ATi with prpritey drivers, it was working, fully 3d accelerated, everythign was rgeat, but fortress forever wouldn't run [it crashed at game render]..i THOUGHT i was using an intel drive on my ati card, so i started installing stuff to get "ati drivers"07:50
Sixofour|Sleepsystem failure, i decided to try nvidia since its easyer, well, nvidia barely works in my system, and it some how broke glxgears, so i went back to ATi, glxgears is still broke so i can't tell if i have 3d ACCEL07:51
Sixofour|Sleepon my ATi07:51
[pyro]ugh what an ugly mess07:51
Sixofour|Sleepinsert jokes/insults/giggles/cries/sighs inbetween each process07:51
[pyro]so have you removed all said drivers and started again from fresh?07:52
Sixofour|Sleephow can i do that?07:52
MrKenniedon't forget to mention your cards are PCI.07:52
Sixofour|Sleepremvoe EVERYTHING related to nvidia/ati07:52
[pyro]your using legacy stuff?07:52
Sixofour|Sleepmy cards are PCI not PCIe also07:52
Sixofour|Sleepive no clue, want a glxinfo?07:52
[pyro]no07:53
Sixofour|Sleepright now i am using the default fglrx ati driver standard07:53
MrKennieI don't think you are.07:53
Sixofour|Sleepthe one you select in Monitors & Display menu07:53
MrKennieyou are probably using the radeon driver07:53
Sixofour|Sleepwtf i'm using fbdev07:54
MrKenniewe reset your config if you recall07:54
Sixofour|Sleepi'm using fbdev Radeon07:54
MrKennieanyway, I'm butting in, sorry.07:54
Sixofour|Sleepkdesudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf07:54
Sixofour|Sleepoops07:54
Sixofour|SleepSection "Device"07:55
Sixofour|SleepIdentifier"Configured Video Device"07:55
Sixofour|SleepEndSection07:55
Sixofour|Sleepi thin that is default07:56
[pyro]Sixofour|Sleep: if i was u id be removing all the drivers you put in, backing up your X11.conf and starting again07:56
Sixofour|Sleepone thing i noticed, the menu isn't bugging me if i want to use proprietary drivers, when i first installed it did07:56
Sixofour|Sleepi don't know how pyro07:56
Sixofour|Sleepive been using kubuntu for 3 days07:56
[pyro]you've been using linux for three days?07:57
[pyro]so no prior linux exp in any other distro?07:57
Sixofour|Sleepi tried before 2 years ago with 5.1007:58
Sixofour|Sleepcouldn't get nvidia working, so i left07:58
[pyro]hmm, so i guess the others have told you to re-install07:58
Sixofour|Sleepyep07:58
Sixofour|Sleepbut id loose alot of configurations07:59
Dr_willisi also suggested figureing out how to get to the bios - to disable the onboard video.07:59
Sixofour|Sleep'and that is a pain07:59
[pyro]yep, got that bit07:59
[pyro]oh you have on-board video too?07:59
Sixofour|Sleepi did disable onboard video btw07:59
mrksbrdSixofour|Sleep: what is your exact nvidia card?07:59
Dr_willisBut aparently the system used to work with it enabled. So proberly wnt matter.07:59
Sixofour|SleepNvidia GeForce FX520007:59
Sixofour|Sleepit was the same in 200607:59
Sixofour|Sleepacutally i don't think i disabled it08:00
[pyro]are you trying to use compiz? or just play games?08:00
Sixofour|Sleepnot sure, heh08:00
Sixofour|Sleepgames was working cept one lol08:00
Sixofour|Sleepbut yes, games08:00
Sixofour|Sleepinfact why don't i try a working game?..brb08:00
Sixofour|SleepTFC worked great, but i couldn't connect to anyservers08:01
Sixofour|Sleepbut the graophics were fine08:02
[pyro]Sixofour|Sleep: some games just dont work with some hardware configurations in linux. Its impossible to account for all the hardware combos that can exist08:04
Sixofour|Sleepi know, but just because it crashes doesn't mean its unfixable08:04
Sixofour|Sleepand windows isn't always the answer08:04
kuresunaSixofour|Sleep: most times it does08:04
[pyro]for example, my laptop has a POS intel card in it which does support 3d, but i have to run 915resolution to get the proper res' out of it and games just wont work with it.08:04
Sixofour|Sleepthats because its a pos intel card08:05
[pyro]but in windows games are fine08:05
mrksbrdSixofour|Sleep: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-376916.html ..........see if this helps08:05
Sixofour|Sleepwell, if no one tried to fix crashes, no development would happen, its much better than using windows and closeing out the possiability of a fix being found08:05
[pyro]anyways 5pm, im outie! home / beer time :)08:06
kuresuna[pyro] cya!08:06
Sixofour|Sleepand, i am tired of windows08:06
mrksbrdsee ya pyro...drink 10 for me08:06
kuresunalol08:06
Sixofour|Sleepso much that i would use linux without my favorite programs, than run windows08:06
[pyro]lol, ill keg it up ;)08:06
[pyro]Sixofour|Sleep: i use linux on my laptop and game on windows on my desktop rig08:06
[pyro]its easier that way08:06
kuresunaSixofour|Sleep: you can always join the wine IRC channel for win support or post on the wine forums for bug reporting / development08:07
[pyro]and i dont care if my gaming box is hax0r3d because its just a gaming box08:07
Sixofour|Sleepi did post in the wine forums, no reply yet08:07
Sixofour|Sleepi don't care about hax...i just don't like windows lol08:07
Sixofour|Sleepbecause its by microsoft08:07
Sixofour|Sleepid i wouldn't drop a hat at the chance to kill bill gates lol08:08
kuresunapatience is a virtue08:08
[pyro]as much as i dislike it, windows has its place08:08
[pyro]but im off, talk to you all later :)08:08

MrKennienot yet, I don't really have the sound hardware although I'm planning on getting an M-Audio firewire box.08:18
Sixofour|Sleepopen source will rpevail in music?08:18
MrKennieof course08:18
Sixofour|Sleepyou don't need sound hardware08:18
MrKennieI do if I want to record something08:18
Sixofour|Sleepive been producing for years with a crystal audio sound chip08:18
Sixofour|Sleepits all in the CPU08:19
MrKennieand I'm damned if I'm using the intel.08:19
Sixofour|Sleepwell, recording maby08:19
Sixofour|Sleepdoesn't matter, most apps, the sound card is simply used for throwing sound at the speakers08:19
kuresunaah not really08:19
Sixofour|Sleepin flstudio it is08:19
kuresunamidi controllers need good sound cards to get low latency08:19
Sixofour|Sleepnto really, i use a midi keyboard, works fine08:20
kuresunaif you have a generic card you can have up to 400 ms of latency08:20
MrKennieit does to me, I like perfection and most onboard sound chips suck at that kind of thing08:20
kuresunayeah08:20
Sixofour|Sleepi have a generic card and i can get 35thousand08:20
Sixofour|SleepMS08:20
Sixofour|Sleepup to 35 thousand08:20
Sixofour|Sleeplol08:20
kuresunaerr... thats not good08:20
Sixofour|Sleepi don't use 35 thousand, but you know08:20
kuresunaxD you want near 12 ms latency08:20
Sixofour|Sleepnah, i use 45ms08:21
Sixofour|Sleepi don't play live08:21
Sixofour|Sleepbut i put it up to 35k when i don't need midi keybaord08:21
Sixofour|Sleepmakes ti sound great08:21
Sixofour|Sleepnot 35k wtf am i thinking08:21
Sixofour|Sleep3.5k08:21
kuresunaxD08:21
kuresunahmm too much for me, even when sequencing i use around 50 ms08:21

MrKennieI tell you one use I have for wine on my laptop, and that's for flash 8 (for work)08:23
Sixofour|Sleep815 project files, thats alot of hours of work08:23

kuresunaSixofour|Sleep yes i do08:23
Sixofour|Sleepthink that will help me?08:23
Sixofour|Sleepthis is on linux right?08:24

jussi01tiberius_: Id say do a dist-upgrade, or use the package managers upgrade service09:06
tiberius_jussi01: So that's "aptitude full-upgrade" isn't it?09:08
jussi01tiberius_: aptitude has dist-upgrade also iirc09:08
jussi01yep, it does09:09

xeviousayatoller: you need the ncurses development package from apt11:21
xevioustry apt-get install libncurses-dev11:22
xeviousor apt-get install ncurses-dev11:22
waylandbillayatoller: did the build-dep pull in any version of ncurses? Are you building asterisk from the source repo or project website?11:22
xeviousor apt-get install ncurses-dev libncurses-dev just to be safe11:22
ayatolleryup but  libncurses5-dev is already the newest version.11:23
ayatollerbuilding asterisk from src11:23
waylandbillayatoller: yeah.. the source deb from the repos or the source tarball from the author's website?11:24
xeviousholy moly. just looked at my fileserver and it's jumped to being stalled at 13.4%11:24
waylandbillayatoller: did you do a ./configure after getting the dependencies (assuming it requires that)11:24
ayatollerI dont use source deb I have download tar files from asterisk.org11:24
ayatollerhmm maybe .configure agagin now 2 sec will try11:25
ayatollerdid make clean; ./configure ; make menuselect and get error : * Install ncurses to use the menu interface! *11:26
ayatollerSo back to square one again11:26
waylandbillayatoller: you may need to tell configure where to find the ncurses development files. Debian packaging may require different locations than the asterick source expects.11:27
ayatollerhmm yeah could be true11:27
ayatollerOki so if I use the source that came from repository... hmm yeah will try that instead of giving up on ubuntu  and replacing with centos :-)11:29
ayatollerwaylandbill:  Do you know the swith to give for path to source?11:30
waylandbillayatoller: is there a reason you need to build the source?11:34
waylandbillayatoller: if you do ./configure --help I think it should give all the switches.11:35
ayatollercool --help11:35
ayatollerwaylandbill:  cool it had the --with-ncurses=PATH option will try that now thx man11:36
ayatollerwaylandbill:  how to find path to ncurses easiest?11:37
ayatollerwaylandbill:  is it just /usr/lib/ ??11:38
makdaknifewaylandbill: which ncurses11:38
makdaknifeor I guess if that doesn't work, you could do: updatedb; locate ncurses11:39
makdaknifesorry... that was for ayatoller11:39
waylandbillI figured. :)11:39
makdaknife:-)11:39
makdaknifedaydreaming11:40
waylandbillbetter than nightmaring.11:40
ayatollerweird if I just do ./configure it says checking for curses.h... (cached) yes11:40
cbrwhere are kubuntu intrepid's kde configs now? in .kde or .kde4?11:46
ayatollerOki i solved the problem. I had to install libncurses4 instead of the default ncurses5 of hardy. Seems asterisk packages doesnt like the new ncurses.... Thx guys11:49
