dagarI've been thinking about switching my main backend to ubuntu from centos, if I went with ubuntu lts how long would I be able to get up to date myth packages?00:04
avihaybsay, is there a reason why a fresh Mythbuntu 8.04.1 install would show only recordings where the backend finished recording, either due to the one hour limit, or due to shutdown, but not recordings done in liveTV mode?00:13
avihaybwhen I pres record on, wait, and of again, the file is generated on the HDD, but it is invisible in the internal media library thing00:14
KjetilKdagar: you can get weekly builds at http://uk.weeklybuilds.mythbuntu.org/mythbuntu/ubuntu , I think there are dev builds available too, so fairly frequent I would say00:15
* KjetilK was actually on the way to bed, so g'night :-)00:15
avihaybalso, if I start a liveTV recording, then quit liveTV viewing, then reenter liveTV viewing, I can no longer stop the recording.00:16
avihaybnight00:16
dagarKjetilK: my concern is more long term support00:17
dagarwill up to date myth builds be available for a few years after hardy LTS has been released?00:17
dagarfor instance what version of mythtv is currently available for dapper drake?00:21
gregL Hardy Heron8.04 LTS April 24, 2008 Supported until April 2013 (Server) or April 2011 (Desktop)00:48
JThundleycan someone help me with nfs stuff? It's really driving me up the wall00:58
JThundleyI had shares all set up and working and it stopped working for some reason00:59
JThundleyfrom what I've gathered, when I write files to the server, they end up belonging to nobody:nogroup00:59
JThundleyso it's like I'm getting squashed, but it's not being mounted as root, my uid and gid are the same on the machines, I'm not in more than 16 groups01:00
bobbob1016I bought an nvidia 8400gs pci express card, and now I can watch HD without much issue.  However, when watching a movie, a 1080p movie, the audio goes out of sync every few minutes, and if I pause/rewind or some combo there-of, it gets back in sync.  My mplayer line is "mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo xv -monitoraspect 16:9 -lavdopts threads=2:fast:skiploopfilter=all -sws 0 %s" from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php02:10

shahar_Hi, I just installed MythBuntu 8.04 and bought a new remote off the LIRC list. I know the remote works because if I kill the lirc daemon, cat the lirc0 device, and push buttons, characters appear on my screen. My problem is that the remote does not seem to work with mythbuntu. I am wondering if there's anything I can do to fix it06:20
avihaybsay, is there a reason why a fresh Mythbuntu 8.04.1 install would show only recordings where the backend finished recording, either due to the one hour limit, or due to shutdown, but not recordings done in liveTV mode?10:51

nutsy<blitz> nutsy, when working with xorg.conf you always make backups, to fix the problem you replace the xorg.conf with the working backup. making small changes at a time is the key14:10
nutsyoh balls sorry14:10
nutsyIn Unbuntu/mythbuntu when something goes wrong with the graphics card driver stuff... How do you reinstall the card and drivers? Some thing went fluffed and i dont know how to fix it. I can no longer get the card to run at full HD any more it only goes up to XGA reses14:10
troldrikYou don't... you fix your xorg.conf14:39
nutsyno its ok i fixed it now redownloaded the nvidia drivers14:40
troldrikPastebin xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.14:40
nutsyand got the nvidia settings installed14:40
troldrikOh...14:40
nutsyout of interest... Anyone here know how to get evo VC1 video stream into a mkv file?14:41
nutsyor does mkv not suport vc1?14:41
nutsytruth is ive not been able to find any good mkv compilers14:42
nutsyoh and the file building on pc14:42
nutsyIts just i want to make some myth compatible films. But I want to fix the audio problem by reencoding them but I dont want to reencode teh video14:46
riegersnI'm unable to stream my hd (avg of 4 gig files) videos over lan/nfs (not giga) when using the default internal player. It stutters and freezes a lot. However when I tell mythtv to use mplayer instead it works fine so I know im transferring fast enough. How can I fix this? I'd rather use the internal player15:07
rhpot1991is the computer powerful enough?15:12
bobbob1016riegersn, I'd guess that it is a setting, since the internal player is usually mplayer.15:16
lagabullshit15:17
laga:)15:17
riegersni tried changing the cache size and min levels on the setup line for internal mplayer but it doesn't seem to cache anything strange15:20
bobbob1016riegersn, What video card do you have?15:20
riegersnshould that matter if mplayer alone works perfectly?15:21
bobbob1016riegersn, Actually, nm, since you said it plays fine via normal mplayer.15:21
bobbob1016beat me to it15:21
riegersnyea i don't get it15:21
riegersnits strange15:22
riegersnthere was a 200mb mp4 it stuttered on too15:22
bobbob1016riegersn, Try taking out all the settings you have in the internal player, since it should use the external player's settings otherwise15:22
bobbob1016copy them down first though15:23
riegersnif i exit out of mythtv and launch mplayer and set up the settings, it should use those?15:23
bobbob1016I think it should, I don't know for sure.  Try asking in #mplayer as well.15:24
lagamythtv does not use mplayer for recordings.15:25
bobbob1016Yeah, but he is playing a stream over his lan with nfs15:26
lagaah, so it's mythvideo15:26
lagaare these h264 files?15:26
bobbob1016Yes, but his videos play fine with mplayer outside of myth, so his PC is fine15:27
riegersnlaga, yea mkv and mp415:27
lagaah, mkv. i dont think mythtv likes mkv that much..15:27
riegersnlaga, when i tell myth to use external mplayer instead of internal it works fine15:28
lagait's also possible that mplayer is newer with regards to h264 support15:28
lagaif you're using ubuntu 8.04, you could enabling the weekly fixes builds. i've updated the h264 stuff there15:29
avihaybI have a problem, moveis I record useing liveTV and pressing the record button don't show up on the list of recorded shows. they appear on the info-center under automatic removal or something like that. if I see them there and press enter, a menu shows up that lets me move them into the "deafault groop". when I do that, they vanish from this list and appear in the vew recordings list15:29
avihaybgroup*15:31
riegersnIs there a podcast plug-in for mythtv? specifically a video podcast plug-in? I'm using miro to download my video podcasts and linking them to my mythvideo dir, it would be nice if I could manage them all on my tv17:11
jlongstreetI've been having a problem with Mythbuntu Hardy on my HTPC where it goes into standby after about 15 minutes of inactivity.  I don't want it to ever go into standby.17:23
jlongstreetIn the power management prefs I have it set to never go to sleep, and the screensaver to never turn on17:24
jlongstreetI think it's just a display sleep or something, because if I'm watching a video, the video will keep playing, but the HDMI will completely cut out until I click the mouse17:25
jlongstreetThis is an HTPC so I don't want to have to have a mouse connected to it.17:26
jlongstreetOnboard ATI HDMI card, btw, fglrx driver17:36
sebrockanyone knows if its possible to add diggnation podcast to mythstream?17:40
sebrockIm able to harvest but not watch anything17:40
riegersnsebrock, im want to know the same thing18:14
sebrockriegersn, I am able to start it using the default parser, but I have to go trough the harvested stuff manually (jpgs, and all sorts of stuff)18:17
riegersnyea, i want to know if there is a plugin for video podcasts18:17
sebrockMythStream can handle it18:19
sebrockits just need some tweak on the parser18:19
rhpot1991_laptopthere is some new deal18:19
sebrockIm watching diggnation right now18:19

sebrockinteresting!18:22
sebrockrhpot1991_laptop, will it make it final to the next release?18:26
rhpot1991_laptopit was included into intrepid AFAIK18:29
sebrockthats great news! Well intrepid is soon here so I'll give it a rest until then18:33
rhpot1991_laptopsebrock: just install from the ppa18:34
rhpot1991_laptopsame thing but ready for hardy18:34
rhpot1991_laptopwe can't insert new things into hardy and all, so you need to get it from the ppa18:35
sebrockso I'll use the repo from intrepid?18:37
rhpot1991_laptopno, ppa == personal package archive18:37
rhpot1991_laptopits a tiny repo that devs can put packages18:37
rhpot1991_laptopfor testing, etc18:38
rhpot1991_laptopits the stuff for intrepid, packaged for hardy, but we can't introduce new features to hardy so you have to get it elsewhere, hence the ppa18:38
sebrockdeb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu-testing/ubuntu intrepid main18:39
sebrockdeb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu-testing/ubuntu intrepid main18:39
sebrockcorrect?18:39
rhpot1991_laptopyou want hardy, see the dropdown on the top of the page18:39
rhpot1991_laptopswitch that to hardy, then copy them18:39
rhpot1991_laptopthrow them in /etc/apt/sources.list18:40
rhpot1991_laptopthen sudo apt-get update18:40
rhpot1991_laptopand then go ahead and install the new packages18:40
rhpot1991_laptopor just use synaptec or whatever you are famailiar with to do so18:40

ender_EEi'm having difficulty disabling window manager keyboard shortcuts on a mythbuntu frontend that boots into a "mythtv standalone session" (per the mythbuntu-control-centre gui).20:30

KjetilKI need to start irexec somewhere21:44
KjetilKwhats the best way to do that under mythbuntu?21:44
KjetilKit should be run by the user that logs in (I assume), and I looked into .xsession, but that appears to take over the whole session rather than just run something in addition to the session21:46
riegersnI can't seem to find where to set the path for my roms in mythbuntu22:04
CNLiberalI'm having difficulty with my digital output using a Creative Soundblaster Live 5.122:04
riegersni've been to the setup where i can select the emulators but didn't see anything for games, just "scan for games" which did nothing22:05
CNLiberali can get 5.1 on LiveTV but using the same settings, I don't get sound on recordings that aren't in 5.1 or in music22:05
CNLiberali can change the settings to get sound in music and recordings, but HD liveTV and recorded 5.1 don't pass AC3 to the receiver22:06
CNLiberaldoes anyone have any advice?22:06
riegersnCNLiberal, sorry can't help with that but im interested in what hardware your using to grab the hd feed. I really want to get a card (or box) that supports it AND works we;; with myth, i fairly new to this22:10
CNLiberali'm currently using an HDHomeRun from SiliconDust22:10
CNLiberalit was VERY easy to setup in Myth22:10
riegersnand the HD quality is good?22:11
riegersnany difference between that and a box from your cable provider?22:11
CNLiberalas good as you can get from Comcast22:11
CNLiberalhaha22:11
riegersnComcast!22:11
CNLiberali've not used a box from my cable provider22:11
CNLiberalthe cool thing is...22:11
CNLiberali'm only paying for internet through Comcast ($59 a month)22:12
CNLiberalbut22:12
CNLiberalthey're giving me all their analog channels22:12
CNLiberalso i've got that going for me22:12
riegersnwhere do you live i have comcast and they said i couldn't use another box besides theirs22:12
CNLiberalthey're a bunch of lie-whores22:12
CNLiberalaccording to the FCC (from what I understand) they have to put out your local stations on their digital tiers22:13
CNLiberalso I've got all my locals on digital (in HD, and some in SD) plus a couple they don't really care about encrypting22:14
CNLiberallike the christian network, and ION TV22:14
riegersnnice22:14
riegersnare you in jersey?22:14
CNLiberalnope, Illinois22:14
CNLiberalbut the hard part with the HDHR was setting up DHCP22:14
CNLiberalbecause the HDHR just takes the MPEG Transport Stream and dumps it on to Ethernet22:15
CNLiberalbut my backend mobo has a second NIC, so I setup DHCP3 and edited the config to dish out DHCP addresses on the second NIC22:15
riegersni wonder if i keep paying for the channels i have like 1-300 or some shit like that, if i can still get them all with the HR box, thats what im worried about. the whole analog digital hd ntsc atsc shit confuses me22:16
CNLiberalI plugged the HDHR directly into the backend, and cat'd /var/log/messages and that said the HDHR received an IP22:16
CNLiberali would really doubt that all those digital channels are unencrypted22:16
CNLiberalComcast are bastards about that22:16
riegersni heard once that its possible to grab the signal from the comcast box, wonder if thats true22:17
riegersnlet the comcast box decrypt it then grab it22:17
CNLiberalI've heard that too22:18
CNLiberalI"m not sure how it works22:18
CNLiberalbecause i know that you can use a Comcast box with Firewire enabled and grab certain stations through firewire22:19
CNLiberalbut22:19
CNLiberalthose stations can't be 5c encrytped22:19
CNLiberalAND22:19
CNLiberali've heard that you can hack the Comcast box, but I've never found out how22:19
CNLiberalso if anyone knows, that'd be sweet22:21
riegersnyea22:23
riegersnI also have the Logitech Harmony 550 universal remote but haven't found out if i can use it with myth, can't seem to find a receiver to plug into the pc22:24
CNLiberalyou should be able to use any remote with myth22:25
CNLiberali'm personally running a Microsoft (Macrosux) MCE remote with USB receiver22:25
CNLiberalit's a plug and play job22:25
Stemming78Any information on how to customize jump points for the MCE Remote?22:25
CNLiberalI've then taken that remote, and programed my Sony Remote Commander (ginormous touchscreen) with the buttons from the MCE remote22:26
CNLiberaland it works fine22:26
Stemming78Having issues trying to remap my MCE REmote (new)....   any information on how to do this;  using the22:28
riegersnyea i have this 100 dollar remote and no pc receiver so no worky with mythy22:29
CNLiberalha22:29
CNLiberalyou can build one, or buy one22:29
CNLiberali tried to build one (cuz i'm crazy cheap)22:30
riegersnhaha22:30
CNLiberaland apparently, not a good solder guy22:30
riegersnme either22:30
riegersnso i don't have to buy one specifically for myth or my remote?22:30
CNLiberalbuy for Myth22:30
riegersncause there is a logitech one for the harmony 880 but its 99 bucks22:30
CNLiberalgrab the MCE cuz it's so easy22:30
riegersnI looked for that microsoft remote in bestbuy & circuit city and nothing22:31
