AndroktasieHello, I'm trying to install Mythbuntu 8.04 AMD64 onto a used hard drive that used to contain one NTFS partition.  I've gone through the installer 3 times now, custom and standard, each time selecting "use the whole disk", and after it installs and ejects the CD I will reboot only to find that the BIOS won't load GRUB.  Gives an "Invalid partition table" error.  Is there an easy way to force...06:09
Androktasie...this disk to become bootable?06:09
buntunubsounds like your issue is more ubuntu related06:14
buntunubmythbuntu is really just a specialized version of xubuntu06:15
buntunubie.. its xubuntu with a mythbuntu theme and mythbuntu control center06:15
buntunubtry installing ubuntu or xubuntu and then use synaptic to install the mythbuntu control center and do what you need from there06:17
Tuv0kmythbuntu is really just a specialized version of xubuntu, uh no06:18
hads?06:21
Androktasieto be honest id much rather just have mythbuntu instead of the full ubuntu + control center.  there are a lot of packages that i wouldn't use and don't want to have to sort through.06:23
buntunubcool. do that then06:24
buntunublots of options with linux06:24
Androktasiethat's what im trying to do though... install linux and have it wipe out everything.  so far it's installed, it's wiped out everything, but it will not load grub06:26
Androktasienever had this issue with 7.1006:26
buntunuban invalid partition error suggests that there is a problem with the way you partitioned your setup06:27
Androktasieit was set to "use the whole disk"06:27
buntunubi got that so perhaps you could try manually partitioning instead06:28
Androktasiewhat options should i use?  is there a decent tutorial i should look at?06:28
buntunubfrom the livecd use gparted06:28
buntunubsetup a /, /boot, /home, and some folks like a /var too06:29
buntunuboh and swap06:29
buntunubfor mythtv i setup a seperate partition just for recordings as well06:30
buntunubworks exceedingly well that06:30
Androktasieloading gparted now from a spare disc06:31
Androktasieits not included on the livecd surprisingly06:31
buntunubi think mythtv defaults to /var for recordings and livetv so you need to be careful there06:31
buntunubonce you get all set up you need to check out the mythtv wiki06:32
Androktasiebefore i had it set to a RAID0 array i had going on.  im pretty much just trying to recreate my old setup, since the last one had a hdd failure06:32
buntunubits not so easy to setup06:32
buntunubgparted will be able to detect hdd issues pretty quick06:33
Androktasieright now im looking at what mythbuntu's installer set up by default.  i see /dev/sda1 as ext3 ( / ) with 140GB, /dev/sda2 as extended, and under that /dev/sda5 as linux-swap06:36
Androktasieno flags are set.  should i mark sda1 as boot?06:36
buntunubhard to say.. i dont know your drive setups06:36
Steven_Mhi all, I'm about install mythbuntu again, I wan't to install grub on a boot partition instead of mbr. What size should the boot partition be and is ext3 a suitable filesystem?06:37
Steven_Mwan't=want06:37
buntunubi have /boot, swap, and / on sda06:37
Androktasiebutnub: just a 160 as the main mythbuntu drive, and two drives in raid as ext3 for the recordings.06:38
buntunub/home, /var, and /opt on seperate drives06:38
buntunubk so you have one primary drive and the rest for dumping stuff into06:39
buntunubfor that i would put /boot, swap, /, and possibly /home06:40
buntunubSteven_M: 100 Megs is usually good for /boot and ext3 is fine06:41
Androktasiei think i figured out what was happening... mythbuntu was installing grub to the MBR of the wrong drive06:57
Steven_Mbuntunub: sorry I made  a  mistake I'm not talking about a boot partition I just mean a seperate partition for grub06:57
Steven_Mso that it doesn't override the grub of my other distro07:00
buntunubthats weird07:09
Steven_Mbuntunub: what's weird?07:10
buntunubnever had ubuntu do that to me before07:11
buntunubbut i usually set a separate /boot partition07:12
Steven_Mahh ok07:23
susa24hello07:23
susa24i have mythbuntu installed and i have a couple of problems i cannot sort out on it07:24
susa24first of all is their a way of inserting a dvd or cd in the drive and automatically copying the contents of the disk to a specific location, and sort them into Video, Music etc..?07:25
buntunubsusa24: there is but you have to set mythtv up for that07:26
buntunubsee the mythtv wiki for details on how to07:26
susa24ok so u saying u cannot do it with mythbuntu u must use mythtv?07:27
buntunubyou can do it in linux via scripts if you dont want to use mythtv or mytharchive07:28
susa24could you please point me in the right direction07:30
susa24ive been searching for a long time07:30
buntunubyou can google for a script that someone may have written and posted for that sort of thing or you check to see if there is an app that has those options like possibly k3b or brasero07:31
buntunubif you want to learn some bash basics you can write the script yourself07:32
susa24k will have a look07:33
susa24thanks07:33
buntunubnp i know it can be frustrating sometimes07:33
