Cimi1oh finally12:55
Cimi1_MMA_: sorry for the spam, just remembered to remove it12:55
Cimi1anyway I have reworked the contrast function, now works really well12:56
_MMA_:)13:06
thorwilhi ho!13:10
thorwilkwwii, _MMA_: http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2008/09/02/%23ubuntu-meeting.html at the bottom, 22:0113:42
* _MMA_ clicks13:43
_MMA_thorwil: I've had absolutely no doubt that community theme will or could be in Ubuntu. It's the default process that's the issue. In the end, Mark has said nothing new in that log.13:46
thorwil_MMA_: a main target audience suggestion directly from him is new to me13:47
thorwil_MMA_: i think we should join forces and see if the icon train can be made to role on the rails fresh out of project kyudo ;)13:48
_MMA_Sure.13:49
thorwilsadly i had to accept a not at all exciting half-day job, which could have quite an impact on my productivity13:49
_MMA_Ill will be working alot soon as well. But it shouldn't effect my ability to *manage* the technical side of this new icon set effort.13:50
kwwiierm, which part of the log is interesting?13:51
kwwiisorry, I see it now13:51
thorwil_MMA_: i have to do a little work for the countdown banners, as that will be a now or never job. then i hope i can finish the outline of kyudo, put it on the wiki, let you know first and perhaps right after announce on list13:52
_MMA_thorwil: Sure. Ill have the framework of the iconset wiki pages up in a day or so.13:53
kwwiiI have heard much of that same stuff before, nothing really new...it is important to point out that promises like that have really pissed people off in the past though13:53
thorwilkwwii: as i mentined the countdown banners, i have to thank you for giving me the inspiration for the spiraling dots ;)  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Website/IntrepidCountdownBanners13:53
thorwilkwwii: you mean regarding getting themes shipped?13:54
rsc_hey guys.13:56
thorwilhi rsc_13:56
_MMA_Yeah. Not to be a pessimist but there's really nothing new there. :( What we *will* accomplish with this new set is that it will be so good it will *have* to be default. :P13:56
thorwilrsc_: are you properly subscribed to the art list now?13:56
rsc_i think so.13:56
_MMA_I don't think there will be enough space for it otherwise. :)13:57
rsc_I'm using nabble, does that mean i'm 'properly subscribed'?13:57
thorwiluhm, no13:57
rsc_oops13:57
rsc_what's the best way to read through the list?13:57
_MMA_Well he's been replying to the list.13:58
_MMA_HE should be on unless Ken is putting his posts through.13:58
thorwilrsc_: while everyone should use what serves him best, i share _MMA_ impresion that you didn't notice all mails13:58
rsc_ah, sorry aobut that.13:58
_MMA_He could have subscribed late. :)13:59
rsc_yeah, i miss a few.13:59
kwwiiI have not been putting anyone's posts through13:59
thorwilrsc_: so not using nabble myself, i can only suggest that you subscribe directly with you email adress13:59
kwwiitoo much time wasted on that13:59
kwwiiso if you can post to the list, you are on it13:59
_MMA_But I don't know how "nabble" works.13:59
thorwilme neither, apparently13:59
rsc_i remember i ended up on nabble while googling for ubuntu art discussions.14:00
rsc_i thought it was a message board at first actually14:00
thorwilheh14:00
rsc_heh :)14:00
thorwilit often appears high in search result for all lists that run there14:00
rsc_are we really going with the orange folder icons, btw?14:02
_MMA_Yes14:02
rsc_heh okay :)14:02
_MMA_thorwil: Looks like you have a +1 for "Umoya" from kwwii.14:22
kwwiioops, server reboot15:09
_MMA_:)15:09
Cimikwwii: new feature for murrine15:22
Cimikwwii: I've rewritten the contrast function now it works muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better15:22
_MMA_:P15:26
Cimihttp://www.cimitan.com/tmp/new-contrast15:33
Cimiscreenshot15:33
Cimi0.2, 1.0 and 1.515:33
Cimiyou can see how well it is managed15:33
_MMA_Nice. :)15:35
_MMA_Cimi: How would you translate "un pezzo alla volta" into English? If you can try. :)15:38
Cimiwhich context?15:38
_MMA_"bit off more than you could chew" Maybe?15:39
Cimii would say step by step15:39
_MMA_Ok. I think I got it.15:40
* thorwil would like to have a contrast slider in appearance settings16:01
thorwilas i think it helps to adapt the theme to varying viewing conditions and eyesight of the user16:02
_MMA_Nice idea.16:04
andreasnthorwil: like screen brightness controls you mean?16:05
_MMA_I think something that just controls the theme. Like the current color controls.16:06
thorwilandreasn: rather screen contrast. the effect is slightly different, though16:06
_MMA_I think XFCE has brightness/color controls.16:06
thorwiltroy could turn down contrast to declunck to his lighting, while my mother could increase it for her old eyes ;)16:07
siekaczis it possible, that wall light will be implented in 8.10?16:07
thorwil_MMA_: i know that KDE had such a slider. maybe still has16:08
andreasnthorwil: I'm just thinking that you might not only fix the contrast for the controls, but for the content as well16:08
andreasnlike websites or so16:08
thorwilhmm16:08
thorwils/lighting/liking16:09
andreasnI would certainly like a brightness/color tool in GNOME control center though16:10
_MMA_siekacz: Wall light is only "pretty". (to some) What actual code is there is buggy. There is no license to the wallpaper and IMO looks too much like a Mac layout. (this is a chat carried over from #ubuntu-devel)16:10
andreasnmaybe I can bring the idea up with Thomas Wood16:10
siekaczcurrent theme ism't "pretty" at all16:11
_MMA_Everyone has their own opinion.16:12
thorwilno, i havn't!! ;)16:12
_MMA_In any case, "Wall Light" isn't going into Ubuntu.16:12
siekaczUbuntu has the same theme since... 6.06?16:12
_MMA_There are more reasons that aesthetic ones.16:13
thorwilsiekacz: do you want to be productive in some way or continue to complain here?16:13
_MMA_siekacz: Trust me. This is a chat this channel has seen all too many times. We have an answer for everything. It's not gonna happen. :) I welcome your work to get "Wall Light" from a concept (more or less) to a fully functioning reality.16:15
siekaczHuman is just a little bit... poor, Ubuntu needs some changes. i think you will agree with me?16:16
_MMA_People have agreed for a while. Being in agreement doesn't do anything. Work does. :)16:17
thorwilin some way, the whole existance of this channel and the art mailing list is about change ;)16:17
_MMA_This really isn't a chat I wanna have for the 100th time so I'll just hush.16:17
_MMA_thorwil: Did you see that kwwii liked "Umoya"?16:18
thorwil_MMA_: i saw you telling me16:18
_MMA_Ok.16:18
thorwil_MMA_: i only hope isizulu isn't a scam ;)16:19
thorwillike, it actually means stench or something :)16:19
_MMA_If there is no stand out name over the next day Ill go with that. We can always change it. ;)16:19
_MMA_:P16:19
siekaczis something going to change in Ubuntu(maybe not in 8.10, but 9.04, 9.10 etc)?16:20
_MMA_Things change in every release. Just not as radically as people might want. So its safe to say, yes. Things will change.16:21
CimiI ported Google Chrome's design using the new contrast function in few easy steps :)16:22
_MMA_hahahah. Nice. :)16:22
Cimihttp://img181.imageshack.us/img181/5339/schermatawz3.png16:24
siekaczhmmm... Nice theme...16:25
kwwii_MMA_: did you ask the guy who made the wall light stuff about the license?16:39
kwwiiohhh, a baby blue UI16:39
_MMA_kwwii: As I don't personally care for the theme, I haven't dug into it.16:40
kwwii_MMA_: cool, just wanted to ask...I'd like to put that wood bg in and see what people think16:40
_MMA_Sure. Maybe as paid art guy you can track down a license. :)16:41
kwwiiI sent him an email, but thought if you already knew it might be quicker :-)16:42
_MMA_Naa... I know only what we talked about the other day.16:43
siekaczSomeone eho created Wall Light, created a problem for ubuntu-artwork team too ;)16:49
siekacz*who16:49
rsc_re: wall light background, i think it wouldn't be hard to track down a similar wood texture (from royalty-free sources) and create a background for Ubuntu.16:51
rsc_*ponders*16:52
* thorwil suspects such a wood design is one of those things that appear to be simple, but are tricky to get right16:52
siekaczbbl16:53
thorwilthe google chrome comic is brilliant16:55
_MMA_rsc_: Go to a flooring store and take pictures. It's totally doable to copy. Will just take the right person.16:57
kwwii_MMA_: freaky, I just now recieved your email about the system sounds16:58
rsc_haha speaking of wood, here's something I threw together a few months back.  just thought i'd share. http://customize.org/screenshots/5776616:58
_MMA_kwwii: Odd.16:58
thorwilkwwii, _MMA_ same here16:58
_MMA_rsc_: Has my Studio logo but not really a "Studio" feel. That said, it looks nice.16:59
thorwiloutdoor studio feel :)17:00
_MMA_:)17:00
rsc_ah, yeah. wasn't really trying a "studio" feel but I just thought it was nice to have.17:00
rsc_more of a "for personal use" desktop than a "for mass consumption" one, anyway. :)17:01
_MMA_rsc_: The Studio art for Intrepid+1 is *WIDE* open. If you're interested, stick around.17:01
rsc_cool.17:01
_MMA_Well wide open other than *having* to be a dark theme.17:02
kwwiiwow, that link killed my FF17:03
kwwii!you sunk my battleship!17:03
ubottuError: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)17:03
thorwillol17:03
rsc_!you know the last digit of pi, don't you?17:04
ubottuError: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)17:04
rsc_heh :)17:04
_MMA_!pi17:16
ubottuSorry, I don't know anything about pi17:16
thorwilfrom #ubuntu-desktop: <lapo>  is oxygen+human really going to be the default icon theme on gnome for hardy+1?17:52
_MMA_thorwil: Ask him to come in here.17:53
thorwildid17:53
_MMA_k17:53
_MMA_thorwil: Lemmie know if more is said and If I need to go there.17:54
thorwil<lapo> thorwil: this one sounds a tad scary to me: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-art/2008-September/007559.html17:55
_MMA_Doesn't have a clue. Oh well. Here's the place to talk about it anyhow.17:56
thorwil<thorwil> lapo: you should read there. word for word. don't jump to conclusions. don't start silly rumors. pick the appropriate channel!17:56
_MMA_:P17:57
_MMA_I can just see this all getting Dugg or some crap.17:57
thorwildigg isn't all that bad. it's just like a giant horde of sheep that shit all over your place and move on. there are also some signs of intelligence in between, but you have to wash the shit away first18:00
* thorwil -> dinner18:01
_MMA_With having moved 2 kids out of diapers already, I'm done washin' shit. :P18:01
thorwil_MMA_: i bet Umoya is way more google friendly than Breath and much less likely to be misunderstood as just the word ;)18:37
_MMA_Yeah. It's gonna be a tough choice. I'd pick a Zulu or African word that was a more direct translation of "Breathe" if I could.18:38
_MMA_Ubuntu Studio was going to be called "Dala Linux" at one point. dala=create in Zulu18:41
thorwiloxygen in japanese: sanso18:41
thorwilbreath: kokyuu, kisoku, ibuki, iki18:42
_MMA_Hmm.... Don't think we should stick closer to something African? Though, I'm fine trying to pull in other cultures.18:43
thorwil_MMA_: was just a thought because i picked kyudo ;)18:43
thorwili prefer umoya simply based on imaginary pronunciation :)18:44
_MMA_Yeah. I *think* I'll go with "Breathe" for now. Work under that and see how names go. We can always change later. What's important now is that work starts.18:45
thorwilwith e? oh18:45
_MMA_Yeah. See my last post to the ML? I can't spell. :)18:46
_MMA_"Breathe - Because humans need oxygen". Man I like that. :)18:46
thorwillets have a boozy icon in that theme ;)18:46
_MMA_"boozy"?18:47
thorwil"to have boozy breath"18:47
* thorwil was looking in the dictionary18:47
_MMA_Like you've been drinkin'? :)18:47
thorwilyes. doesn't really  work with breathe, though18:48
_MMA_But a funny nod to all the beer references in free software. :P18:49
_MMA_Hell with it. I'm pullin the trigger.19:08
thorwil*bang*19:08
DanaGInteresting names here:  http://h50146.www5.hp.com/products/portables/personal/zen_design.html19:13
DanaGNot saying you should use them; just saying it's cool that they use creative ones.19:13
DanaG... and the corresponding wallpapers:  http://h50146.www5.hp.com/products/portables/personal/zen_wallpaper/19:14
DeltsNot sure if this is the right place to ask but I need help with a couple of icon issues.  First is I'm using the glass icons theme (version 0.2 on gnome-look) and it has a firefox icon, but it doesn't change it when I apply the icon theme.19:33
DeltsMy second issue, is there anyway to change the ubuntu logo in the top left whilst using a custom icon set (glass icons is what I'm aiming to use again).  I want to change it to the ubuntustudio icon since this is what I'm using19:34
