Tooncishey guys, how do I fix my live tv display?  It fills the width of my widescreen tv, but the height is squashed down so everything looks fat.00:27
TooncisI've checked all my tv settings.  I only have the problem with live tv from my HDHomeRun.00:27
Tooncisthe GUI fills the screen fine.00:27
squish102can mythbuntu be burnt to a dvd? or does it have to be a CD?01:08
Toonciscan anyone help me with my display problem?01:23
hadihi, just installed mythtv for the 1st time, is there any tutorial for installation, it looks like i am having problem01:32
nishianyone use sasc-ng here?02:25
Zinnnishi: sasc-ng is a method to ILLEGALLY receive cable or satellite broadcasts via a fake software dvb-s/c device.  It is forbidden from being discussed in #ubuntu-mythtv, #ubuntu-mythtv-dev, #mythtv-users, and #mythtv.  If you would like to learn more about it, please refer to it's developers and keep any and all discussions about it there.02:25
rcampbelHey, did joystick support get disabled in latest mythtv-0.21-fixes debs? My game pad stopped working in myth...02:34
rcampbeljstest and jscalibrator show input, so I presume it's myth and not the OS or my joypad02:35
hadi57hi, i am installing mythtv for the 1st time, and i get no upnp backends found, what is this?03:15
gregLhadi57: try this it may help..    dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database03:22
Tooncishow do you add a folder (like a cdrom with video files) to the video browser so it will show the video files on a disk you put in?03:26
darthanubisjust like you added the other videos?03:36

rcampbelgomike78: I would look at docs for either alsa or pulseaudio for digital audio and try to get things to work with mplayer from Linux commandline first05:13
gomike78can i just use the internal player05:19
gomike78AVI files work in AC305:19
gomike78and so does TV05:19
gomike78I asked the wrong question sorry, what i dont know how to do is get audio to play over the optical out when there is no AC3 audio included in the avi05:24
coszmos_Anyone know where the config file lives that defines autostart of mythfrontend in mythbuntu?05:40

Steven_MGargoyle: hi11:33
GargoyleI am thinking of makeing a separate backend/frontend setup. Do cards like the Nova-T-500 that come with a remote have a separate receiver?11:34
GargoyleSo I can put the card in the backend and the receiver in the front?11:34
Steven_Mnot sure sorry11:36

Aquahalliclaga: got a gutsy backend I'm about to upgrade... mythtv has already been upgraded to .21 on it... being there's some kernel upgrades I'm gonna take... am I ok to do this remotely with vnc?12:24
lagait's not the best idea one might have, but it can work. if you use update-manager (or was it do-release-upgrade?), it will probably open another ssh port for you12:26
Aquahallicdo-release upgrade??12:26
AquahallicI planned on just pulling updates from package manager12:27
lagaah, i thought you were gonna upgrade to hardy12:28
Aquahallichrm... will it not through synaptics?12:28
Aquahallicthat is my intention.. but someone in here said lastnight not to use the cd but just pull it from synaptics12:29
lagayou can use update-manager for that12:29
Aquahallick... sorry.. haven't had my coffee yet.. :P12:30
Aquahallicupdate manager..  not synaptic...:D12:30
Aquahallicso the update manager will upgrade it to Hardy then?12:30
lagayes12:31
Aquahallickewl...12:32
Aquahallicand kudo's to you guys... I've run a couple different os's with mythtv on them... and mythbuntu by far has been the best I've seen... this backend was up for 6 months.. no problems whatsoever with 4 frontends feeding off it... still wouldn't have taken it down except that I had a h/w failure.. so I'mma get my upgrades in now too.12:34
Aquahallicso... thanx again for all your hard work on this... it SURELY shows!!12:34
Aquahallicand my 6, 8 and 10 yr. old kids thank you too...hehehe12:35
lagai'm glad you like it :)12:35
Aquahallicso much so that I have to schedule maint. windows with them....LOL12:35
AquahallicI think the whole rig is really theirs... I just get to maintain it.. hehe12:36
lagaheh12:37
Aquahalliclaga: I just hit update manager.. and it says I have 54 updates and there's a distro release of 8.04... should I take the distro first.. then get all my updates cause they're probably going to be different for Hardy anyways?12:53
lagaum. no clue. ;)12:53
Aquahallicheh12:53
lagait should be safe to go to hardy directly12:53
Aquahallicwell.. here goes nuttin'.. I'mma fire right over to hardy...;)12:53

lagathat's an excellent plan14:19
squish102mythbuntu-7.10-desktop-amd64.iso < i guess that was the name14:21
squish102found it thanks14:22
fiyawerxhey guys, is there some sort of screensaver type of thing you can run for instance when you're playing music with myth so its not just the steady image on the screen?15:57
coszmos_Anyone know where the config file lives that defines autostart of mythfrontend in mythbuntu?15:59
sebrock/usr/share/mythbuntu/session.sh maybe?18:11
lagano, /usr/share/ usually doesn't hold config files18:16
lagait's somewhere in ~/ ;)18:16
lagadepends what youre looking for18:16
sebrocklaga, I think he is not talking about actual config files...18:17

Aquahallicafternoon folks... I just upgraded from gutsy to hardy on my backend.... runing a pvr-150... and when I go to view livetv... it's very grainy.. and if I tune to lower channels... it's completely unwatchable... has something changed with this upgrade?18:44
Aquahalliccan someone tell me what version of ivtv I should see in dmesg with mythbuntu hardy for a pvr-150?18:56
tgm4883_laptop[  127.811765] ivtv:  Start initialization, version 1.1.019:03
Aquahallicyeah.. that's what I'm seeing19:14
* Aquahallic is a BONEHEAD19:14
AquahallicLMAO19:14
Aquahallicbeen so long since I've messed with my backend... when I upgraded the distro.... I think it updated ivtv also... and I forgot you have to actually power off the server for a couple min's to let everything clear so the card will take the new f/w19:15
Aquahallicnow.. question.. yesterday we were talking about how I can move the recordings dir and the livetv dir to separate locations.... if I do move them to different places... how does that react if I'm watching a show and decide I want to record it...19:18
Aquahallicwill it finish playing/recording and then move it into the recordings dir?19:18
tgm4883_laptopAquahallic, no idea ;)19:23
Aquahallicheh... I guess I'll findout...:P19:27

sebrocksuperm1|away, laga I filed the mythlcdserver bug/fix now. Hope it will make it into intrepid release19:51
Aquahallictgm4883_laptop: you around?21:42
tgm4883_laptopnope ;)21:43
Aquahallicheh21:43
Aquahallichey you any good with setting up sharing?21:43
Aquahallicas in.....21:43
AquahallicI just moved my g'friend over from winblowz to ubunty hardy.. "YAY"21:43
tgm4883_laptopwhat do you want to share?  same system?  Different computers?21:44
Aquahallicwell.. on my backend I had some dir's like the videos and mess shared out for her21:44
Aquahallicso she'd go into network places.... see the backend and open it and see the shares21:44
Aquahallicsamba on the backend21:45
tgm4883_laptopIs it a laptop?21:45
Aquahallicwell.. now that she's on ubuntu... I'm not sure WTF is the equivelant of a workgroup21:45
Aquahallicyup21:45
tgm4883_laptopok, then you probably don't want to mount on startup ;)21:46
Aquahallicno21:46
tgm4883_laptopso you have 2 options21:46
Aquahallicright.. don't want it in fstab or nuttin'21:46
tgm4883_laptop1, you can continue as it is currently and have her go to places > network and it should be just like windows21:46
Aquahallicand I'd rather not have shortcuts to mount21:47
tgm4883_laptopor you can setup a button that will mount the drives21:47
tgm4883_laptopwell then the first option it is then21:47
Aquahallicyeah.. I don't want static mappings21:47
tgm4883_laptopso just go to Places > Network21:47
tgm4883_laptopmight have to hit windows network when you get in there21:47
AquahallicI do and I see the workgroup21:48
Aquahallicand I see the server and kid's 2 winbloz boxes21:48
tgm4883_laptopok, then whats the question?21:48
Aquahallicbut when I open the server.. the shares are not there21:48
tgm4883_laptophmm21:48
Aquahallicshe does have same user and pass as the acct I setup on the server21:48
tgm4883_laptopdid you wait a sec to let them load?21:49
tgm4883_laptopcauses i'm doing that right here and they show up fine21:49
Aquahallicyeah.. it did the hourglass deal for almost a min.21:49
Aquahallicnow21:49
Aquahalliclet me ask you21:49
Aquahallicwhen you do that... the laptop is using samba.. right?21:49
tgm4883_laptopwell cifs, but yea21:50
Aquahallicok.. let me get more basic21:50
Aquahallicso I can "understand" this21:50
Aquahallicwhen I setup a windows machine.. I have to put it into a workgroup21:50
tgm4883_laptopright21:51
Aquahallicto see the other shares properly21:51
Aquahallicok21:51
Aquahallicnow21:51
Aquahallicis there a native sharing for linux?21:51
Aquahallicother than using samba.. cause that's really linux using windows file sharing21:51
Aquahallicright?21:51
tgm4883_laptoperr not exactly21:51
Aquahallicactually.. lemme ask it like it21:51
Aquahallicthis21:51
Aquahallicif I had a PURE linux network21:52
Aquahallicno windows boxes21:52
Aquahallicand I wanted to share out some folders and have them show up when I path to the server21:52
Aquahallicwould it be samba I'd have to use or does linux have a native "workgroup" type environment??21:52
tgm4883_laptopif they were all desktops, i'd say mount them at startup using NFS21:53
Aquahallicyes21:53
tgm4883_laptopbut afaik, you can't just browse NFS shares like you can CIFS shares21:53
Aquahallicbut I want the server to broadcast the shares...21:53
Aquahallicok21:53
tgm4883_laptopNOTE ^^ That is probably incorrect, I just dont know how21:53
Aquahallicthat's what I was getting at21:53
tgm4883_laptopok21:53
Aquahallicok... so samba it is21:53
tgm4883_laptopthen you probably want the CIFS setup then21:53
Aquahallic'er.. is samba called Cifs now?21:54
tgm4883_laptopwhich is what you have right now21:54
tgm4883_laptopwell yes and no21:54
tgm4883_laptopIIRC Samba used to use the SMB protocol, but now uses the CIFS protocol21:54
tgm4883_laptopwhere CIFS is just evolved21:54
Aquahallicaight21:55
Aquahallickewl21:55
Aquahallicso...21:55
Aquahallicnow21:55
Aquahallicwhat I'm seeing is there's an authentication issue I believe21:55
Aquahallicwhere I have to join a windows machine to a workgroup21:55
AquahallicI'd think I'd actually have to do the same with the linux machine21:56
Aquahallicso that it would "pass through" the credentials21:56
Aquahallicso if Bob has an acct on the server with password21:56
Aquahallicand Bob logs into a laptop with that same user and password.. he gets his securities he's allowed on the server when he opens the server in places network21:57
Aquahallicmake sense?21:57
tgm4883_laptopok21:57
tgm4883_laptopmakes sense21:57
tgm4883_laptopand that is not happening here?21:58
AquahallicI don't think so21:58
Aquahalliccause21:58
AquahallicI didn't do any config on the laptop for the MSHOME workgroup at all21:58
AquahallicI'm guessing ubuntu hardy only comes pre-installed with the client side to mount smb shares?21:58
Aquahallicdo I also need to put samba server on the laptop and then config the smb.conf with the workgroup info?21:59
Aquahallicor does the client side also use that info?21:59
tgm4883_laptopright, but you don't set any permissions up per workgroup, it's per share.  so if you go into Places > Network > WORKGROUPNAME > COMPUTER > SHARENAME it should propt for a user/password22:00
tgm4883_laptopno, you don't need samba server on the laptop22:00
Aquahallicyeah but the shares aren't showing on the server end22:01
Aquahallicnow22:01
tgm4883_laptopright, hmm22:01
Aquahallicthose shares were setup using samba back with gutsy and I did the smb.conf by hand22:01
Aquahallicand it does show on a windows box if she logs on as her user22:02
tgm4883_laptophmm22:02
tgm4883_laptoplet me take a look at my smb.conf22:02
Aquahallicyeah22:02
Aquahallicyou have samba server on that machine?22:03
tgm4883_laptopno, on my server22:03
Aquahallicok.. so you're only running the client app on there then22:03
Aquahallicwonder if your smb.conf is config'd with something that happened during setup?22:03
tgm4883_laptopAquahallic, why don't you post your config and we will see whats up22:09

tgm4883_laptopnothing sticking out22:15
Aquahallicyeah22:15
AquahallicI even opened up the recordings share just to test it22:16
Aquahallicwould the security = share have something to do with it?22:17
Aquahallicmaybe that works fine for windows.. cause it joins the workgroup22:17
Aquahalliclet me change that and bounce samba svc on server22:18
tgm4883_laptopno, mines practically the same as yours22:18

Aquahallicthat server is a static entry on my dhcp segment22:26
Aquahallicand I had to screw with some stuff on my router so my dns would resolve right when I was vpn into work... so I basically screwed myself...:P22:26

Aquahallicty sir!22:27
tgm4883_laptopnp22:27
Aquahallicjust flashed up one of my wrt's with ddwrt.. guess I better get to configuring it...:P22:28
Aquahallicthen I can just setup my vlans right and won't have this problem anymore..22:29
Aquahallictgm4883_laptop: if I change the ip on my backend.. is there anything else I need to change for the db besides the binding for mysql-server??22:39
tgm4883_laptopnot sure, I haven't changed my backend ip for that very reason22:40
Aquahallicheh22:40
Aquahallick22:40
Aquahalliclooks like everything's referencing hostnames and not IP's22:47
Aquahallicso I should be able to change the ip and then change the mysql-server to listen on that interface.... then I'll have to change my nfs mounts cause I use the IP..22:48
AquahallicI'll let you know...:P22:48
Aquahallicgotta plug into this other router and config it.. so... I'll bbiab!22:49
Aquahallicthx again for all your help!!!!22:49
CNLiberali upgraded my MythBuntu install on my backend last night (8.04) and now I'm seeing issues when IVTV tries to record23:23
