Ted_FischerHi! I have a question about kdevelop setup03:05
ryanakcaTed_Fischer: Hi, we use #kubuntu for support / help questions...03:28
Ted_Fischerryanakca, I thought this would be the "best" place to ask.03:29
ScottK-laptopIt can be a bit confusing, but this is for development of Kubuntu, not development on Kubuntu.03:31
Ted_Fischerok sorry i will move to #kubuntu03:32
* jtechidna wonders if anyone in here even uses kdevelop03:34
ScottK-laptopAt one of my customer sites, last time I was there, a sysadmin I know was on the way to install it on someone's machine.03:36
ScottK-laptopSo I know at least one person thought they wanted to use it.03:37
ryanakcajtechidna: I've used it once or twice... I prefer vim though, for the simple reason that I can stick it in a screen and access its familiar environment from anywhere I need to.03:39
* jtechidna just uses Kate03:40
NCommanderjtechidna: I do on larger C/C++ projects03:55
NCommanderBut thats about it03:55
DreadKnightheya03:55
DreadKnightupgraded to 8.10 and x server doesn't starts by any means03:55
jtechidnaDreadKnight: which drivers do you use?03:55
DreadKnighti'm not very sure, can't manage to do anything03:56
DreadKnighti've upgraded a clean install, no proprietary drivers installed even03:56
DreadKnightIntel GMA 950 graphic card btw03:56
ScottK-laptopstdin: Are you still around?03:56
DreadKnightso the screen flickers a few times with some weird colors, then remains black03:56
jtechidnaOk, then it's not the problem I was thinking03:57
stdinScottK-laptop: yep03:57
DreadKnightcan't even go to terminal....03:57
jtechidnao.o03:57
DreadKnighti googled around a few times.. but nothing..03:57
DreadKnightbullet-prof x... lol03:57
* jtechidna hopes your home directory was on a separate partition03:57
ScottK-laptopstdin: Since I see you're listed as original maintainer, I'm curious if you have an opinion on Bug 25028503:57
ubottuLaunchpad bug 250285 in kde4bindings "pykdeuic4 missing in python-kde4-dev" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/25028503:57
DreadKnighti used wubi for instalation03:58
DreadKnighttoshiba m400 portege;03:58
DreadKnighttablet pc03:58
jtechidnayou are so boned03:58
jtechidnawell, all your files in /home are unless you can get it fixed03:58
DreadKnighti have nothing in my home anyway03:59
jtechidnagood03:59
DreadKnightthis is for testing purposes...03:59
jtechidnaso at Grub press e over the boot option03:59
DreadKnightwant to get the stylus working... and perhaps hardware buttons03:59
DreadKnightk03:59
jtechidnago down to the second entry and press e again03:59
DreadKnightthe recovery one..04:00
jtechidnathen backspace "splash"04:00
jtechidnapress enter, press b04:00
jtechidnait should now boot without the splash screen so you can see what fails.. hopefully04:00
jtechidnarecovery might be good too04:00
jtechidnayou could at least see Xorg.0.log04:00
DreadKnightok, trying right now04:02
DreadKnight81. something intel_something not detected (xD )04:02
DreadKnightbut it booted04:02
DreadKnighti can see now04:02
DreadKnightbah... stylus not working by default in intrepid as well04:03
* jtechidna has to go04:03
jtechidnayou might try #ubuntu+1 for more/better support04:03
DreadKnightum ok :\04:03
DreadKnightthanks04:03
* jtechidna catches some zzzzz's04:03
DreadKnighti wonder if i need to do this edit every time now..04:03
stdinScottK-laptop: seems to be fixed, I see it in python-kde4-dev04:04
ScottK-laptopstdin: In Intrepid?04:05
ScottK-laptophttp://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents&keywords=pykdeuic&mode=filename&suite=intrepid&arch=any says otherwise.04:05
* ScottK-laptop fires up ark.04:05
stdinhmm,  no actually04:05
ScottK-laptopIt's in python-kde404:06
ScottK-laptopNot -dev.04:06
stdinyeah, ubottu lied to me04:06
DreadKnightbah.. i logged into intrepid (kubuntu) and all i see is my mouse cursor and some square grid tiles as background04:06
ScottK-laptopstdin: In python-kde3 the equivalent file is in the -dev package.04:07
ScottK-laptopDreadKnight: If you reboot, pick the recovery option, select the xfix choice, and then boot normally, is it better?04:07
stdinit really should be in -dev04:08
ScottK-laptopOK.  Let me see if I can move it.  I've got some other stuff I'm doing in that package.04:09
stdinScottK: I think just moving debian/python-kde4.links to debian/python-kde4-dev.links should do it04:11
ScottK-laptopstdin: Thanks.  I'll try that.04:11
stdin*ScottK-laptop04:11
DreadKnightit seems i've upgraded to intrepid using konsole04:13
DreadKnightand it always get's the stuff wrong and i need to use adept04:14
DreadKnightusing it right now from "kde3" session04:14
DreadKnightwhich i'm guessing it will dissapear after i log out04:14

smarterRiddell: hi, could you please review&upload https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-members/bespin/ubuntu -0ubuntu3?11:16
smarteruse bzr diff -r12:13 to get a nice debdiff ;)11:17
smarterhmm, I mean bzr diff -r20:2111:17
smarterdoh, wrong synthax, it's bzr diff -r20..2111:17
goatsockssmarter: ooh bespin... anything usable yet?12:00
smartergoatsocks: the widget style is pretty usable, and there's a kdm theme and a kwin windeco on the svn, unfortunately it's a bit late to package them :/12:01
* goatsocks gives it a spin12:04
smarterthe only thing I dislike about it is the look of progressbar12:05
goatsocksi don't much care for the oxygen progressbars either12:08
smarterand bespin is highly configurable12:09
smarterbut the configure button is b0rken in -0ubuntu2, I backported an upstream fix for the ubuntu312:12
smarteryou can fix it manually by running sudo sed -i 's/kstyle-bespin-config/kstyle_bespin_config/' /usr/share/kde4/apps/kstyle/themes/bespin.themerc12:15
goatsockslooks like lp's svn import is broken there12:16
goatsocksthough it's on sourceforge, probably their fault ;)12:16
goatsocksPatch kubuntu_01_fix_configure_button_systemsettings.diff can be reverse-applied12:22
goatsocksdid they already apply the fix upstream?12:22
goatsocksah that's the one you backported12:23
goatsocksnot sure why debuild is trying to apply it though12:23
goatsocksbuilt fine once i removed debian/patches/12:29
goatsockslooks great already... i think he should put some activation highlighting on the scrollbar though12:36
goatsockshm, no colorscheme?12:36
smarteryou can configure the colors using /usr/bin/bespin or the "configure" button in systemsettings->appearance12:39
goatsocksah i hadn't gone through all those yet12:39

ryanakcaapachelogger: meeting in half an hour?13:31
Hobbseeryanakca: i think you've missed it by 12+ hours?13:35
ryanakcaHobbsee: ... for marketing?13:36
* ryanakca was told 13UTC today13:36
Hobbseeoh, marketing.13:37
apacheloggerryanakca: yus13:51
ryanakcaapachelogger: where? Here I suppose?13:57
apacheloggeryeah, nothing important going on anyway ;-)13:57
* apachelogger should have prepared an agenda before he went to bed13:58
ryanakcaapachelogger: Well, there's an item in the KubuntuIntrepidWebsite spec that could be a first task... Get a slogan or a short sentence along the lines of 'Kubuntu is an operating system that makes your life easy' to replace the big paragraph (What is Kubunut) that we have at the moment...14:00
apacheloggerryanakca: I think we need to define a general mission first14:00
apacheloggerknome: ping14:00
apacheloggernixternal: ping14:00
apacheloggerwell, the others aren't around -.-14:01
ryanakca-.-14:01
apacheloggerryanakca: I think we should ask the community on this14:01
ryanakcaapachelogger: on the mission of the team or the slogan?14:02
apacheloggerslogan14:02
* ryanakca nods14:02
claydoh+1 on a general misson14:02
apacheloggerget some present for the winner14:02
ryanakcaI wonder if jenda would donate a few stickers... I'll ask later :)14:03
apacheloggerI wonder if stickers are cool enough14:03
apacheloggerI mean they are cool... but... ;-)14:03
* ryanakca nods14:03
* claydoh wants bigger stickers14:03
apacheloggerother ideas than stickers?14:04
ryanakcaWhile waiting for the others to show up, I'll brb, going to get a glass of OJ14:04
claydohkubuntu logo with clear background14:04
ryanakcaapachelogger: well... there's t-shirts, but that does seem a bit much for a sentence that Just Works... do we have any posters left? (Did Kubuntu ever get posters? I know Ubuntu did...)14:05
* apachelogger did never see any14:05
apacheloggeronly that roll-up thing like KDE14:05
ryanakcaAlso, should we invite a few people from Ubuntu Marketing over while were waiting for some input / so we don't repeat things they've tried and failed / etc?14:06
* apachelogger doesn't like reusage of ideas in marketing :P14:06
apacheloggerryanakca: we probably should print t-shirts with the slogan14:08
apacheloggergive one or two to the winner14:08
apacheloggerthat is a) promotion for us and b) something for her/him to e proud of14:08
apacheloggerlike the winner is in a bar with friends is all like "Ey, check that out, I made that slogan" and the others are like "What is that about"....14:09
ryanakcaapachelogger: sounds good...14:09
apacheloggerryanakca: where to get the shirt from though ;-)14:10
apacheloggercanonical could probably get a whole bunch of them and sell them in the ubuntu store14:10
ryanakcaI know of a place in Quebec that makes any amount of t-shirts for 11$/shirt... they'd probably cut us a deal if we ordered more... or we could try to get Canonical14:10
apacheloggertrying both is probably the best14:11
goatsocks$11 cdn? ouch14:11
apacheloggerIIRC there isn't any kubuntu stuff besides the CD/DVD in the online shop anyway14:11
ryanakcaMind you... we should probably get in touch with whoever from Canonical and kindly explain that the slogan ``linux for human beings'' isn't likely to bring in new users who know nothing about Linux... and then go on that we'd like to hold a contest to find a new one14:12
ryanakcagoatsocks: sell them at 15$/piece ... 4$ profit :)14:12
* apachelogger thinks ryanakca is going to settle the t-shirt source ;-)14:12
ryanakcahehe14:12
goatsocksryanakca: still, they're making $9 profit off of you ;)14:12

ryanakcaI'd announce it on the Planet... with a link to the forums or something.14:15
apacheloggerwe could digg it14:15
goatsockssure, you'll have to wade through a bunch of crap submissions, but more exposure is good14:15
apacheloggerbut I think t-shirts are also not cool enough for digg :P14:15
apachelogger* forums14:15
ryanakca*nod*... that's once we get the green light that we could actually change the slogan14:15
apacheloggerwell14:16
apacheloggerwe are community project, aren't we?14:16
goatsocksthe blue headed stepchild... hey, how about blue hats? ;)14:16
apacheloggerkubuntu - the blue hats14:17
apacheloggernah14:17
goatsocksno i mean sell them14:17
apacheloggergoatsocks: where?14:17
goatsocksdunno, i thought canonical/ubuntu had a merch shop?14:17
apacheloggerryanakca: do you want to aggregate the suggestions in the forums?14:17
apacheloggergoatsocks: I doub they would sell blue hats there :P14:18
apacheloggerif we had a community shop I would be all for blue hats though14:18
ryanakcaouch http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/3552/14:18
goatsocksapachelogger: why not? it'd have the kubuntu logo on it, but it's still ubuntu14:18
apacheloggergoatsocks: it's very redhatish14:18
apacheloggerryanakca: we don't want an ubuntu slogan14:19
apacheloggerwe want a kubuntu one14:19
apachelogger'Kubuntu - collaboration to the core' doesn't exactly cut the cheese14:19
goatsocksapachelogger: except fedora's hats look like ass14:20
apacheloggerif they were blacknwhite they would be terrific ska hats :P14:20
apacheloggerryanakca: so, where to aggregate the suggestions?14:20
ryanakcaapachelogger: I'm not sure... Forums would probably be best since it provides some form of control yet has the greatest amount of users...14:21
apacheloggerryanakca: IMHO a wiki would be best, forum clutters the information a lot14:22
apacheloggerbut14:22
apacheloggerubuntu wiki is broken, so what to do :S14:22
goatsocksok scrap the hats... how about branded cosmonaut headgear like in sabdfl's hackergotchi? that would get people's attention14:22
claydohI can definitely put an announcement on K-F-N14:22
apachelogger*noted*14:23
ryanakcaapachelogger: Hmmm... probably overkill, but you could make a submit form that just sticks all submissions + email + realname in a MySQL database... that way you can get all the submissions without clutter, no need to register (of course, something to prevent spam), etc14:25
claydohI could also post on the k-u mailing list, but that definitely would get clogged up wiith errata14:25
apacheloggerryanakca: we could use google docs for that14:25
ryanakcaapachelogger: don't you need to register for google docs?14:25
apacheloggernope14:25
apacheloggeryou get a submission form and google docs stores the data in a spreadsheet14:26
apacheloggeror... doesn't that koffice db-app have an online form thingy as well14:26
* apachelogger forgot the name :P14:26

apachelogger"Configure Kexi..." function is not available for version 2.0 alpha-9 of Kexi application.14:30
apacheloggerhehe :D14:30
ryanakcaapachelogger: Anyways, we've figured out we need a new slogan. Have we settled on a t-shirt as a prize?14:33
apacheloggerpretty much14:33
Hobbseeperhaps you should have a prize pony.14:33
apacheloggerfall back is stickers14:33

* apachelogger hands Hobbsee a cookie14:36
Hobbseechoc chip?14:36
apacheloggerof course14:37
apacheloggerryanakca: we need more branding in Intrepid14:37
apacheloggercurrently there is ... eh... none at all :P14:37
Hobbseeoh, tasty, thanks!14:37
* apachelogger is wondering why google docs doesn't want to go to offline mode in chrome14:38
goatsockswhere are svg's of the current kubuntu logo?14:39
apacheloggeroh14:39
apacheloggerthat is another topic14:39
apachelogger_what_ is the official kubuntu logo?14:39
Hobbseethe one on the kubuntu.org site?14:39
goatsocksthe hybrid ubuntu/gears logo is great imo14:40
apacheloggerwell, there is also the one which is not shiny and uses black text14:40
goatsockshas anyone attempted one in the oxygen style?14:40
ryanakcaapachelogger: I think they're both official...14:41
apacheloggerthis sucks ass14:41
apacheloggergoatsocks: mayb we can get an oxygen dood to try ;-)14:42
apacheloggerryanakca: we probably should set this on a kubuntu meeting agenda and settle on one14:42
ryanakcaapachelogger: okies...14:43
apacheloggerand I'll ask the oxygen doos if someone is intersted in oxgenify the most recent one14:43
goatsocksthat would look slick14:44
apacheloggerOther thoughts about the logo?14:44
goatsocksthen you could rebrand the app menu button14:44
apacheloggerI don't think we should do that.14:45
apacheloggerwe probably should get some thoughts on that14:45
apacheloggeron the one hand 2-way branding is confusing, on the other I think giving KDE their fair amount of branding also makes sense and ensures upstream stays happy14:45
* ryanakca nods14:45
* apachelogger always changed the icon on suse14:46
apacheloggerI'll send a mail about that to -devel14:47
ryanakcaAnyways, shall we get more input from the community at the next meeting? (Make sure everybody (or the majority) wants to change the slogan / get a better one, etc)14:47
apacheloggerI think everyone agrees14:48
apacheloggerdespite that fact that no one really used that collaboration to the core thing.14:48
apacheloggerryanakca: we certainly can get some input on this though14:48
* ryanakca nods14:48
* apachelogger searches a reasonable way to aggregate suggestions14:49
ryanakcaAnything else until then?14:49
apacheloggerand we need to appoint a jury14:49
apacheloggerryanakca: think up som ideas where we can introduce Kubuntu branding14:49
apachelogger...in Intrepid14:49
ryanakcaapachelogger: yes, at least to reduce it to say ~5 slogans... and then let the community decide? Or would the jury select one?14:50
* ryanakca nods14:50
* apachelogger is all for jury decisions14:50
apacheloggeryou never know which part of the community actually takes part14:50
apacheloggere.g. it could be super technical and they settle on the most un-promotional just because it sounds cool to them ;-)14:51
* ryanakca nods14:51
apacheloggerWe also need to work on our news @kubuntu.org14:52
ryanakcaAnyways, until the next Kubuntu meeting?14:52
apacheloggerryanakca: I think we should appoint the jury at the next kubuntu meeting14:52
apacheloggeror just go with the kubuntu council14:52
ryanakcaapachelogger: the website spec wants to get rid of the news on the front page and place the latest kde packages and some other thing in it's place14:52
* apachelogger can't imagine14:53
apacheloggerhow would the latest kde packages be placed there?14:53
apacheloggerand what are other things?14:53
ryanakcaReplace the News list with a latest KDE packages page and latest Kubuntu release page (linking to the release notes).14:54
apacheloggerhm14:54
apacheloggerryanakca: isn't that what the news are about anyway?14:54
ryanakcahttps://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuIntrepidWebsite ... no clue how, I'm going to try to get a meeting with whoever was there when they drafted the spec to sort out some of the items in it... some of them are vague and they say possible changes. Which ones do they want type thing :)14:55
apacheloggerok14:56
* apachelogger needs to leave14:56
ryanakcaCheers14:56
apacheloggerI have another meeting in 4 meetings, and I gotta drive 10km ;-)14:56
goatsocksmeeting in 4 meetings? you judge time by meetings instead of minutes now? ;)14:57

ScottK-laptopJontheEchidna: Ack'ed.22:01
JackWinteranyone have an idea how i can stop kded from hogging the cpu on my kubuntu system ?  the command shown running in system guard is: kded [kdeinit] --new-startup, is using some 85% user and 15% system...22:01
JackWinterit's a hardy 8.04 with all the normal updates22:02
JackWinterif i kill that process cpu usage drops to nearly nothing, but i can't access new media like cdroms etc22:03
ScottK-laptopOdd.  It's 0% and 0% on mine.22:06
JackWinteryeah, i don't know what the problem is22:13
JackWinterit occurs even if i boot with the usb dvd turned off, so i don't think that's it either (was reported as a bug).  the only usb i have is the mouse (printer turned off too).  didn't have this in gutsy.22:14
ScottK-laptopIt may be a kernel issue specific to your hardware.22:14
JackWinterof course :)   i'll try booting different kernels, but it occurs with .16 and .19  i'll try booting with .14 too, and also try the non-rt kernels.  mb is an asus p5k with q6600 and 4gb of ddr-1066 ram.   don't think i had the problem in gutsy but was a long time ago.22:17
JackWintermaybe i should try to compile a kernel with only the hardware i have ?22:18
JackWintergoogling hasn't really led me to anyone having a similar issue...22:18
goatsocksi'd search bugs.kde.org if i were you... there've been all kinds of high cpu bugs since kde4 was introduced22:19
ScottK-laptopgoatsocks: He's on KDE3.22:19
goatsocksoh, well that'd be a real problem then ;)22:19
JackWinterthis is on kde 3.something22:19
goatsocksyou're screwed ;)22:20
ScottK-laptopJackWinter: Do you have hardy-backports enabled and have you upgraded to 3.5.10?22:20
ScottK-laptopJackWinter: If you haven't, before you do, be forewarned that there are a few known regressions that we are working.22:21
ScottK-laptopDetais in Bug 26184022:21
ubottuLaunchpad bug 261840 in ubuntu "Please pocket copy KDE 3.5.10 from hardy-backports to hardy-updates" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/26184022:21
JackWinterhehe, i'm somewhat a noob to linux and kde, some 6 months full time usage now.  don't know how to check which version, but think i have 3.5.9.  what are the hardy-backports ?22:23
ScottK-laptop!backports | JackWinter22:29
ubottuJackWinter: If new updated Ubuntu packages are built for an application, then they may go into Ubuntu Backports. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports - See also !packaging22:29
ScottK-laptopUnless you've enabled it, you don't have it.22:30
ScottK-laptopMy suggestion is that if nothing in the bug about regressions concerns you, upgrade to 3.5.10 and see if it's better.  Warning though, downgrading is non-trivial.22:30
JackWinterScottK-laptop: yesh, i've been wondering about downgrading.  seems like it would be useful but it's not evident to me how to do that..:)22:33
ScottK-laptopI'd assume if you're going to upgrade it's a one way trip.22:33
ScottK-laptopNCommander: Would you please look at http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17598822/buildlog_ubuntu-intrepid-hppa.kde4bindings_4:4.1.1-0ubuntu3_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz22:34
ScottK-laptopNCommander: I think I followed your advice and it worked out on lpia.  On hppa, not so good.22:34
JackWinterScottK-laptop: it's not that bad, i have my /home on a different partition, so i can just reinstall the os and my apps, but it would be some work...  not worse than many other os' though :)22:35
ScottK-laptopOK.  It is possible to downgrade, but it's not easy.22:36
JackWinterScottK-laptop: that's something i miss from adept :)22:36
ScottK-laptopThe challenge is kind of built into the package management system dependency resolution.  All core kde packages are built against their version of kdelibs, so you have to downgrade them all together.22:37
JackWinterScottK-laptop: ok, thanks you've given me some avenues, and i'll pursue them.  many thanks for the help!22:38
ScottK-laptopYou're welcome.22:38
JackWinterprobably best to start with the kernel.  since i haven't seen anyone else having this problem suggests indeed that it has to do with my hw...22:39
JackWinteri have seen some other strange happenings with with low latency audio and manipulating the priority of threads.  in fact the .16 kernel works much better for me than the .19.  maybe i should update my nvidia drivers too.22:41
JackWinterin any case once again thanks, and i hope i won't be back again with my problem :)  wish all of you a good weekend22:43
ScottK-laptopJontheEchidna: Your FFe for Krusader is approved.22:48
JontheEchidnaScottK-laptop: cool, now sponsorship through normal methods?23:16

ScottK-laptopstdin: Are you sure you uploaded the right one?  Debdiff from the previous one is empty on REVU.23:49
stdinScottK: yeah, the very last upload is the with the tarball from the get-orig-source rules (as I don't think the md5sums should be different), the one before that has the other changes23:50
ScottK-laptopAh23:51
ScottK-laptopOK.23:51
stdinhttp://revu.ubuntuwire.com/diff.py?upid1=3673&upid2=368023:51
ScottK-laptopstdin: DEB_PHONY_RULES := get-orgi-source looks like it's missing a 'g'23:52
stdinugg, I hate typos :p23:52
stdindo you see anything else before I fix that?23:53
stdinoh, and do you think I should do anything about "W: kopete-cryptography source: quilt-build-dep-but-no-series-file kopete-cryptography" ?23:55
ScottK-laptopstdin: Add a lintian override for that.23:59
ScottK-laptopYou need quilt for kde4.mk23:59
ScottK-laptopstdin: That's it from looking at the diff.  Let me download it and look some more.23:59
